Animal Therapy
Have you been feeling lonely, slightly depressed or anxious? Let me tell you, maybe you are not. You are just missing a pet!
Owning a pet can actually be a highly effective method of therapy, known as pet or animal therapy. No matter the age you are or difficulty you are having, animal therapy can be quite helpful for you.
This type of therapy has become increasingly popular in recent years, and is now widely used in hospitals, schools or age care facilitations. With the rise of COVID-19, the pet ownership increased significantly.
Pets are known to form a bond with humans, beneficial for both parties. They are known to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. They also provide a sense of unconditional love and support, forming a rare companionship with the owner that can boost their social confidence, quiet helpful for people who feel isolated or are struggling with loneliness. Here are some ways you can benefit from the presence of animals and where to find pets in Melbourne:
One of the most popular forms of animal therapy is use of dogs. Dogs are highly social, loyal and affectionate animals, and there are several studies that document the bond they can create with human, which got them the title of ‘human’s best friend’. Due to their level of intelligence and obedience, dogs can be trained to provide a variety of support services, such as helping people with mobility issues or providing emotional support for people with mental health disorder. If you are thinking of adopting a dog, have a look at some of the most popular Australian websites such as Rescue Pets or Savour Life. If you are not in the position to adopt a dog right now, I have a life hack for you. Go in a dog beach (Port Melbourne, St. Kilda, Elwood, Brighton) and enjoy not only a lovely walk by the beach, but also the presence of so many lovely dogs, that are having zoomies on their beach day! Another option would be to book a class of puppy yoga in Springvale or visit dog cafes and enjoy their company!
Another popular form of pet therapy is the presence of a horse, known to help individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder, also called equine therapy. There are many placed around Melbourne that offer classes to learn how to ride horses or ponies, such as Woodlands Trail Riding in Greenvale, The Equine Club in Dromana, Alan Smallacombe Trail Rides in Dandenong Ranges, and not only. Here is the link to some of the most popular horse rides in Melbourne.
Other pets that are used in therapy are cats, birds or even fish. If you love cats, you should check out the famous cat café in CBD before it closes down in June, or visit the Melbourne/Werribee Zoo and the Sealife Aquarium to see other beautiful animals.
To conclude, pet therapy can be quite a solution for your mental health. We know that life can get overwhelming and lonely at times, but there is nothing a pet cannot fix for you. Here are some doggo pictures that I took around Melbourne to make the perfect conclusion for this blog!

Exploring the Benefits of CBD Oil for Horses in the UK: A Comprehensive Guide
Exploring the Benefits of CBD Oil for Horses in the UK: A Comprehensive Guide
In recent years, the use of CBD oil has gained significant traction in the world of equine care. As horse owners seek alternative and natural remedies to support their animals' health and well-being, CBD oil has emerged as a promising option. In the United Kingdom, this trend is no exception, with more equestrians turning to CBD oil to address various health issues in their beloved horses. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into the benefits, usage, and considerations surrounding CBD oil for horses in the UK.
Understanding CBD Oil for Horses
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a compound derived from the cannabis plant. Unlike its counterpart, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce the 'high' typically associated with cannabis use. Instead, CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) present in both humans and animals, playing a role in regulating various physiological functions.
CBD oil for horses is typically extracted from hemp plants, which contain high levels of CBD and minimal THC, making it safe for equine use. This oil is then administered orally to horses, either directly into their mouths or mixed with their feed.
The Benefits of CBD Oil for Horses
1. Pain Management
One of the primary reasons horse owners turn to CBD oil is for its potential analgesic properties. Horses, like humans, can suffer from various sources of pain, including arthritis, laminitis, and musculoskeletal injuries. CBD oil has been shown to alleviate pain and inflammation by interacting with the body's ECS and modulating pain signaling pathways.
2. Stress and Anxiety Relief
Horses are sensitive animals that can experience stress and anxiety due to various factors, such as travel, competition, or changes in routine. CBD oil may help calm nervous horses and reduce anxiety levels by promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. This can be particularly beneficial for horses during high-stress situations or when adapting to new environments.
3. Support for Digestive Health
Digestive issues are common among horses and can manifest as colic, gastric ulcers, or diarrhea. CBD oil has shown promise in supporting digestive health by regulating gut motility, reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, and promoting appetite. Some horse owners have reported improvements in their horses' digestive issues after incorporating CBD oil into their regimen.
4. Enhancing Overall Well-being
Beyond addressing specific health concerns, many horse owners use CBD oil as a holistic supplement to enhance their animals' overall well-being. CBD's potential antioxidant and neuroprotective properties may contribute to maintaining optimal health and promoting longevity in horses. Regular supplementation with CBD oil may support immune function, promote healthy aging, and improve the quality of life for horses.
Considerations for Using CBD Oil in Horses
While CBD oil holds promise as a natural supplement for horses, it's essential to approach its use with caution and consideration. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:
1. Quality and Purity
When purchasing CBD oil for your horse, prioritize products from reputable manufacturers that undergo third-party testing for potency and purity. Look for CBD oils specifically formulated for equine use and avoid products containing additives or unnecessary ingredients.
2. Dosage and Administration
Determining the appropriate dosage of CBD oil for your horse can be challenging and may vary based on factors such as weight, health condition, and individual response. Start with a low dose and gradually increase it while monitoring your horse's response. Administer CBD oil consistently and as directed to achieve optimal results.
3. Consultation with a Veterinarian
Before introducing CBD oil or any new supplement to your horse's regimen, consult with a qualified veterinarian familiar with CBD use in equine medicine. They can provide personalized guidance based on your horse's specific needs, health status, and existing medications.
4. Legal Considerations
In the UK, CBD products for animal use must comply with regulations set forth by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD). Ensure that the CBD oil you purchase adheres to these regulations and is legally approved for equine use.
Conclusion
CBD oil has emerged as a promising natural supplement for horses in the UK, offering potential benefits for pain management, stress relief, digestive health, and overall well-being. As interest in CBD oil continues to grow among horse owners, it's essential to prioritize quality, dosage accuracy, and veterinary guidance to ensure safe and effective use. With careful consideration and proper administration, CBD oil may become a valuable addition to your horse's holistic healthcare regimen, supporting their health and happiness for years to come.

Princess Pebble’s incredible transformation will always inspire us 🥹
After years of neglect, her hooves were so overgrown that she struggled to walk and was in a lot of pain. She had been wandering a neighborhood and surviving by eating grass from neighbor’s yards—until a good samaritan called us for help and we were able to bring her home to The Gentle Barn Tennessee.
Years of walking on overgrown hooves left her with a deformity in her front left hoof, but thanks to her gentle care plan, which includes quality vet care and dental work, hoof trims every four weeks, bimonthly injections and daily medications, acupuncture, massage therapy, proper nutrition, @sunchlorellausa algae superfood, and @jillandjoanhealing CBD, she is now comfortable, mobile, and happy!
This year was the final stage of rehabilitation and she was finally able to join the larger pasture with all the big horses! She gets to run with them and is part of an equine family. But it took so much time and patience to get her body healthy and ready to be able to enjoy this whole new world.

CBD Oil For Horses
CBD Oil For Horses
There are many different kinds of oils out there, and some are used as supplements for your horse’s food, while others can be used to treat certain issues in a more medical capacity. An example of one of these oils that can be used as a treatment is CBD oil.
CBD oil has become popular for humans and their household pets, but it also has uses for our equine partners, too. Below, we will go over CBD oil in more detail, including what exactly this oil is, as well as its individual characteristics and how it can be used and administered to your horse when in need.
What Is CBD Oil?
Now, what is CBD oil, exactly? You will need to understand what this oil is in order to decide whether or not it is a good addition to your horse’s diet, or a good treatment for your horse. CBD is known to have many different properties for healing people and animals, including treating mental issues like anxiety, as well as physical issues like pain or inflammation.
CBD oil is a tincture which is created from the compound Cannabidiol, which is, of course, found in cannabis. However, though CBD is made from a compound found in cannabis, the CBD oil does not have the effects of smoking the plant— no psychoactive effect, and in fact, high quality CBD products will never have come in contact with THC at all.
THC, of course, is the acronym for tetrahydrocannabinol, the compound that has made cannabis popular for recreational use.
Characteristics of CBD Oil
As we went over above, CBD is a tincture made from Cannabidiol and extracted from the cannabis plant. It is a highly concentrated form of the compound that is made by putting a solvent on the surface of the cannabis plant.
The solvent will make its way through the plant and absorb the CBD as it does so. Then, the solvent is extracted and you have a high concentration of CBD left over in its all-natural and non-toxic form, making it fit for use! It can then be used for people, household animals, and horses, as we are discussing specifically in this article.
How Does CBD Oil Work?
CBD oil works to regulate the mood, immunity, pain levels, and more of the user by stimulating the cannabinoid receptors in the brain. It also supplements the ECS system, which is the system in the body that is recognized as being responsible for many different aspects of your health. Overall, CBD oil acts very similarly to a regular vitamin supplement that is added to the daily diet.
By consuming the Cannabidiol in CBD oil, the body gets an additional dose to stimulate the cannabinoid receptors. CBD is not that much different from giving your horse a regular vitamin, despite the stigma that is associated with CBD and cannabis due to its recreational uses.
Benefits of CBD Oil For Horses
CBD oil is touted as a treatment for many symptoms that occur in animals and in humans alike. Read on for a breakdown of what CBD oil can do for your horse, and some of the incredible benefits of this tincture when used medicinally!
Treating Chronic Pain and Arthritis
One of the common uses of CBD oil is to treat issues such as chronic pain and arthritis, without the need for prescription painkillers or steroids. CBD is able to reduce the swelling around the joints that causes a lot of pain in your horse. It also is able to target the pain receptors located in your horse’s brain, blocking them from activating and recognizing the pain. This means that the neurons in your horse’s brain are not sending pain signals throughout the body. This can help your horse to experience less pain and get back to their usual self!

Treating Inflammation
Inflammation is a common issue in our horses, in part because of their size and activity levels. Inflammation can even lead to other issues after persisting for certain periods of time— these issues include arthritis and chronic pain, as well as some heart issues.
CBD can be used to deal with the inflammation that your horse may develop by helping with the immediate discomfort or pain that result from inflammation. CBD can also be given to your horse if they have gone through surgery recently in order to deal with swelling.
Treating Digestive Health
Since horses usually have a grain only diet, they often can experience digestive or gastrointestinal issues. Gastrointestinal issues refer to those such as bloating, nausea, ulcers, indigestion, and lack of appetite, too. Horses that compete may develop these more frequently because they have such demanding lifestyles. CBD oil, however, can be used to treat these digestive and gastrointestinal issues.
The grain-only diet that we mentioned before can lead to irritation in your horse’s stomach. CBD oil, though, can counter this irritation and prevent the development of gastrointestinal issues. If your horse has already developed gastrointestinal issues, then CBD oil can help to manage them.

Treating Stress and Anxiety
CBD oil is used pretty commonly to treat stress and anxiety, whether in humans or in animals like our horses. As we know, horses are one of the most emotionally intelligent animals out of all the animals we keep as pets.
This means they are also more susceptible to emotional distress or issues like depression, resulting from changes in their lifestyle, for example. CBD can be used to treat pre-competition stress or anxiety as well if your horse competes in shows and frequently exhibits these kinds of nerves. It can also be used if your horse gets stressed from transport.

With Cancer Treatment
One of the many benefits of CBD oil is that it can help to reduce the adverse effects that come along with cancer treatments. It may also be able to prevent the further spread of cancer within the body. Research has shown that CBD can have an effect on cancerous cells and keep them from growing.
It may even induce cell death. Plus, CBD acts as an immune system booster, which helps the body fight the development of cancer cells. That being said, CBD oil should not be used instead of cancer treatments, but it can be used in conjunction with them.
Overall Health
CBD can of course help with all of the aforementioned issues, but it can also help simply with your horse’s overall health. By stimulating the ECS system of your horse, you can create homeostasis in the body.
This CBD treatment and resulting homeostasis can regulate the mood, appetite, and the health of your horse. In addition to this, CBD oil can help to have preventative effects for different conditions that may affect your horse’s overall health and wellbeing.
Types of CBD Oil for Horses
Humans are the biggest market for CBD, but companion animals and horses are the second largest target market for CBD products.
In Canada, CBD products that do not make any health claims may be sold lawfully under the Cannabis Act.
There are currently no Health Canada-approved CBD medications for animals, including horses.
In the USA, CBD is controlled by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). There are currently no FDA-approved CBD products for animal use, including horses.
In both countries, there are a number of ways animals can receive CBD
CBD Oils: CBD oils are usually the most potent and unprocessed form of cannabidiol. These oils have been removed directly from the flowers, stalks, and seeds of the hemp plant.
CBD Tinctures: Tinctures contain CBD but are typically less potent than CBD oil. The CBD in a tincture has been extracted with alcohol or another solvent.
Edible CBD Products: Pellets and treats are formulated with CBD in them.
Topicals: Creams, lotions, salves, gels, rollers, and sprays containing CBD are commonly used for joint comfort and muscle tension.
Does My Horse Need CBD Oil?
If your horse is dealing with any of the issues that we detailed above, then CBD oil can be a great way to treat these issues and can be an easier way to deal with some of them as it is an all-natural remedy.
Horses that lead active, demanding lifestyles can also benefit greatly from a daily dose of CBD oil, due to its characteristics of being able to treat pain and inflammation— which can frequently result from these demanding and active lifestyles or activities. The amount of CBD oil that you should give your horse will be discussed further in this article.
When it comes to horses that are already on medications or are pregnant or nursing, then you should avoid giving them CBD oil. CBD oil could have adverse effects if mixed with other medications, for instance, so it is important to discuss the effects of CBD oil or discuss whether or not you should give your horses CBD oil in these situations.
How Much CBD Oil Should I Give My Horse?
When you are giving your horse anything— whether it be medicine, a supplement, or vitamins— you will want to be sure you have the correct dosage. After all, if you give them too little, it will not have an effect, and then if you give them too much, you could also end up causing side effects or complications.
The same is true for CBD. Of course, the first thing that you should always do is consult your vet about adding CBD oil to your horse’s daily diet or intake. They will know best how to properly implement this, as well as how much and whether or not it is safe. The general rule of thumb with CBD oil is that a horse should receive between 40 and 100 mg every day, depending upon how chronic or severe the symptoms being treated.
There are a few side effects that you may see in your horse when giving them CBD oil, but luckily, they are minor. You should watch out for lethargy or excessive thirst in your horse when you start to give them CBD oil.
These are still issues that you will want to treat and eliminate, but because CBD is a natural remedy, they are more minor symptoms than those you may see with other kinds of treatments such as steroids.

CBD, both natural and synthetic forms, are likely to effect the performance of a horse due to its reported anxiolytic effects. This substance is no different than legitimate therapeutics that effect mentation and behavior in horses. It is for these reasons, USEF prohibits CBD and all related cannabinoids. Horses competing under USEF rules who test positive for natural cannabinoids, synthetic cannabinoids and other cannabimimetics will be considered in violation of GR4 beginning September 1, 2019. “

She has worked as a trainer in England, where she has worked with Sir Noel Murless, Henry Cecil and William Hastings-Bass (now Lord Huntington).
Another member of the staff is Namparra horse breaker Toby Pracey. He has over 17 years of experience in the industry and has broken in many Golden Slipper winners. His training methods are based on tried-and-true techniques, and he is known for his patience and kindness with horses. He also teaches horses to be comfortable in the bridle and saddle, which helps prevent behavioural problems later on. He is a great asset to the team at Muskoka Farm.

We’re excited to welcome Tattoo and his owner Kelly into our hemp CBD family. This handsome Missouri Fox Trotter is a former Breeder Cup Champion and produced 41 champions horses of his own. That’s a lot of work, so when retirement came along, you can bet your butt Tattoo was ready to kick back and relax. This big lug was loving retirement, but then his owner Kelly noticed Tattoo was off. He was moving slower with a limp, experiencing pain in his joints, and becoming easier to agitate. Kelly wanted Tattoo to have the retirement he deserved. So she started giving him our Hemp CBD Equine Pellets, and to say it made a big difference is an understatement. His trout picks up better, he’s enjoying riding again, and he isn’t off in his shoulders and feet anymore. And others are taking notice around the farm. He might be 27 years old, but Kelly still calls Tattoo her champion and so do we! If you want to know more about this, Click here

🏆🐎When it comes to the best CBD for Horses, Our EQUINE CBD 3250 horse supplement is a true innovation and market leader in Equine Health & Wellness supplements. Our EQUINE CBD 3250 horse supplement contains a very high concentration of CBD, in fact a whopping 3,250mg of CBD per 250ml (25 serving bottle).🤩🐎 . We are extremely proud to provide our friends, family and customers with a highly concentrated product that will deliver the desired effects - and at a fair price.♥️ . Most other companies that are currently selling CBD for horses are attempting to price gouge and take advantage of customers by offering a much weaker concentration of CBD and for much higher prices.👎🏼 . . . . #equinetherapy #equinehealth #equinerider #equinerehab #horsetraining #horsetrainer #equestrianfitness #equestrianlovers #horseloversofinstagram #horseloversofinstagram #horsehealth #horsehealthproducts #horsecbd #fullspectrum #fullspectrumcbd #fullspectrumhemp #cbdforhorses #horsehealing #horsehealthandwellness #horsehealthnaturally #horsehealthcare #horserescue #healinghorses #cbdhealthbenefits #cbdhealthandwellness #horseowner #horseowners #horseownership #horseownersofinstagram #horseownerproblems (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKheseYHZPY/?igshid=vryxy0dsdl7q

Well. The long and short of it. Is that there is a good possibility that Simon has cancer. And that if we're lucky, he'll make it a year longer. So.
I thought we had a good decade left for us, but definitely not. Blood tests were inconclusive so we're waiting on the urinalysis, but the vet said that he's 99% certain that it's cancer. It's not really operable for several reasons- it's in the right kidney (literally his right side kidney, which is apparently in a bad place for operation due to anatomy), he's 20 so it'd be hard on him, equine surgeries are always iffy anyway given that they're such big animals, and post op recovery would be difficult due to both his age (as stated) and his size, the placement, etc. There'd be a good chance of fatal bleeding. So we're. Waiting for the urinalysis. Got some Qs for the vet- is CBD an option, can Simon be used for trials for anything since apparently (I learned a lot yesterday) cancer in equines is a fairly new science, what should I be on the watch for. It just really sucks and I feel just as bad, honestly if not worse, than when I lost my dog. Simon's gotten me through some shit, he's been my rock for the last eight years. We've come from a pretty shitty relationship to a pretty solid one. I hate that it may very well end this early. I hated losing King, my lab, but we'd had him since he was five weeks old. I've had Simon since he was 11. I haven't even had him most of his life. And sometimes you won't have a horse most of their life but I just. I thought we'd have more time. But he's still behaving normally, we're in no rush to put him down. Once he starts declining we'll look at it but. As long as he's comfortable and happy, eating and pushing the girls around, there's no reason to have our fingers on that trigger. All I can do is get my plans for the end ready.
