i bought this keyboard about a year and a half ago for (I think) over £110. It's cute looking, I like that you can program the lights how you want and the keys are nice and quiet... but the keyboard fucking stinks!

It constantly switches between mac and windows mode. This can happen every few seconds or once in about half an hour or so. What this means is that the alt key and windows key switch. So when I'm doing design or animation work I find myself constantly accidently opening the start menu rather than alt-clicking on things. When the switch happens I then start using the windows key as the alt key and, what do you know, it's switches back! I'm tearing my fucking hair out.

(Also I can't manually remap the keys because I can't install anything on my work laptop without about a dozen people giving me permission to do so that's fun.)

On top of that the buttons in the general bottom left on the keyboard don't seem to work 100% of the time. I was ctrl highlighting files and the ctrl button randomly became unpressed. Shift becomes unpressed too. I have to keep retyping letters because they're not capitalised. I feel like some of the time other letters don't register as well when I'm using the keyboard wirelessly.

On top of that I've had it plugged into my work laptop all day. I thought it was charging like usual but when I switched it to my PC to use wirelessly it's completely out of battery.

The funny thing is I went onto the epomaker reddit to see if there was a fix and the whole epomaker subreddit is now devoted to making sure people don't buy these piece of crap keyboards.

I got me a new keyboard, one I've been eyeing for a while. And while some things are a weird change (previously used 100% keyboard, this is 96%). Like print screen being FN+ numpad 9, but finding a nice keyboard that was both ISO-UK and had a cassette futurism vibe was almost impossible. Some minor changes are a small price to pay.

Unlike the price of this keyboard, even in the sale lmao.

lifes honestly been so much better recently. like aside from processing a retarded amount of trauma ive dealt with since i was a kid and even recently (circa 2016-2021), i think ive gotten past a good chunk of it

my dad sucks is really the take away. my mum does too at points but less so than my dad. shes just kinda fucked up from her own bs and thats okay. she tried processing it and going to therapy, and my dad did the opposite

ive kinda just accepted ill never have any kind of relationship wt my sperm donor again, and it feels really good. he put me through so much shit. been telling my mum whats been happening over the years and shes fucking HORRIFIED. she broke down after i told her some of the shit hes done over the years. like a part of me knew it was bad but it was so normalized that i never thought about how fucked up it all was until actually verbalizing it

the bastards been stealing shit from the house too to sell of for drug money. he hasnt lived here for a year but hell still show up when no ones around and take shit. hes stolen shit from me too, thankfully we have cameras everywhere so my mum was able to tell him to give me back my shit and he actually did. but then he stole other shit from the house to sell so it kinda cancelled out lol

other than that shit, life been okay. positives being ive been dating my bf for a year now and were pretty happy with eachother. hes talked about marriage and stuff and thats pretty cool. id marry the shit out of him

works been great too. i transferred to another building and its been goin super good. i got promo offers my first week, and months later (ie now) im being told that they wanna promo me to a management position which is fucking fantastic. i like MONEY, and i like that this building actually appreciates the effort im putting in. i had people rooting for me at my last building, but ive been fucked over way too many times at that building to stick around, so its nice to be given some actual direction now

my ex best friend is apparently getting fat and that made me laugh pretty hard. for all the shit she put me through and how insecure she is, enjoy the extra weight queen xoxoxo

ive been really enjoying paddle boarding recently. my bf and i go out on the water and just kinda chill and listen to music and eat n have beer and its really relaxing. im also actually tanning and not staying super pasty white LOL

im a LITTLE tequila fancy rn so im probably gunna log off now, but im gunna try to journal again, and this is the easiest way to do it. gunna try to stick to it

okay but i'm so excited my husband is such a sweetie he decided that to celebrate 5 days without cigarettes (he's trying to quit!!! and doing pretty well!!!) to use his cigarette money to buy me the epomaker jade switches I wanted for my keyboard mods I wanna do and I'm like aklsjhdfkjhdf so so stoked. ima take this keyboard apart, do some tape modding to the PCB, install new switches, and make this bad boy sound a little nicer. and hopefully those linear switches will be kinder to my osteoarthritis in my fingertips than these tactile browns that came with my keyboard. i need this bitch quieter. lol. i am so so so over clicky keyboards. and i'm so glad that i have a husband that is so sweet that he likes to support my hobbies and interests. ;w;

Oh hell yeah sure.

So my mobile keyboard is amazing.

This is an EPOMAKER NT68. It's a 65% bluetooth keyboard that I have used to, at this point, write about 80% of the PT Benji AU. It's a fucking joy to use.

I got it on sale from Bezo's Store for about 70 bucks (it's 95 right now). At the time, it came with Gateron Blacks installed but literally like seven of the fucking switches had bent pins and had to be replaced. It came with five spare switches so I was p pissed.

Which, I was fine obvsly because I keep buying switches on the cheap.

Okay but about this specific keyboard:

EPOMAKER NT68

Haimu Whisper Silent Tactile switches (which I LOVE, very good feedback without a ton of sound, great of typing at work)

Cannoncaps CXA Superplum (which is to to date the only caps I have ever paid full price for which I should not have done except they might be my Actual Favorite Profile. this is unfortunate bc they fucking never going on sale, but that special spacebar shape is incredible)

my lil vinyl record player artisan was a gift 8) the maker is 2Tcraft on Etsy

What I love about this keyboard is that

It allows for three BT connections at a time, so i can swap from my phone to my home PC to anything else with two buttons

the sound of it on a deskmat is actually one of my favorite noise profiles of any keeb I've used

it is the most portable keeb without going into weird Nuphy keebs (which I did consider a lot) or going Ortho (which I ALSO considered but this was before Akko put out an affordable Ortho option, god bless Akko)

it has a felt magnetic sleeve that can be folded around the keeb to protect it or into a lil triangle to prop your phone on, which I use all the time. when this thing starts wearing out, I will be very sad.

it fits into my cheapass Vera Bradley crossbody bag so i bring it with me everywhere and I have genuinely used it a fucking lot, like a LOT.

it is a major conversation starter, everyone at work wants to know more about it which is fun.

obviously I had switch issues with the stock keeb and had to swap out some non-working switches, BUT the stock is honestly very good otherwise and the caps it comes with feel perfectly fine. you can use them for a while without issue.

some caveats:

this thing is an investment. i told myself that basically this is what my patreon is for and I saved up for a few months to justify it to myself. i'm glad I did it but also Oof That Pricetag.

the software for this thing is fuckign incomprehensible. i have tried many many times to add some hotkeys to it and fucking forget it. I managed to turn off the lights and that's all I'm doing with it. if you want this for coding and need something very easy to add layers to, FUCKING FORGET IT. go get one of Drop's Orthos instead.

sometimes i type too fast for this thing lmao. it doesn't happen often but like if i'm REALLY going max speed, it will every once in a while (like once in a paragraph) miss a key. I'm fine with this because it doens't happen with casual use.

it is portable but you are gonna need to find a bag for it to fit into. It fits perfectly into a Vera Bradley Sling Backpack, which I picked up on clearance from my local Hallmark store oddly enough.

I made the mistake of talking to the Magical Flying Husband about keyboards and activated his trap card

now he's making me try another keyboard than the keyboard I have been using, which he made me try because the one he made me try before that was too loud, and the one before THAT was too loud, and

So now I'm trying out a NuPhy Air96. It's very clinky, and the strike distance is really short (not ideal for my mutant fingers) but it is, I think, quieter than the Epomaker TH96 that he's had me on for the last six months or so.

The NuPhy is a really flat keyboard. It's fine. I don't know what else to say about it. I'm writing this to figure out if I like typing on it, and probably I don't, but it's probably not less pleasant than the Epomaker was (and to be clear, the Epomaker is lovely, I've got Bone Weirdnesses that mean I'm picky about my keyboards, and the pickiness does not come down to attractiveness, build quality or ease of use by a normal person).

I never had an opinion on keyboards until like 2012, and now most of the time my opinion is "I miss the old keyboard." Possibly this is a sign of my brain calcifying with age.
