Yall I am nearly vibrating with how excited I am to explore a concept in "no longer you" and "monster"
Vision: fog machine backstage is working overtime, and it's so thick you can hardly see anything on stage and then as Tiresias starts the chorus BOOM projections appear in/on the fog

For whenever Epic comes to a stage, I think when one of odysseus enemies shows up for their song they should have their name light up above the stage to look like a boss health bar. It would also help the general public that might not be familiar with the original story.
Also i think it would be heartbreaking to see “Eurylochus” show up during “mutiny”.

So I was relistening to Epic: The Musical (as one does) and imagining it on stage (as one does) and YO! Great idea!
Odysseus finds infant in blanket
Odysseus saves blanket after Just A Man
Blanket is on his person like on his belt or something and he constantly grabs onto it
Singing the line "I'm just a man" throughout the 1st act
When he tells his men not to kill the cyclops in Remember Them
Singing to dream Penelope "but I'm the same!!"
When he tells Athena he can't sleep at night
He or Posieden reach out to it during the lines "if you just killed me son// but no"
During Puppeteer while explaining he can't leave his men
In The Underworld "I keep thinking of the infant from that night"(x2)
Odysseus fully pulls out the blanket during the song Monster looking at in his hands in the line "What if I'm the monster?"
Just as Odysseus raised his arm out holding the baby out he does the same to the blanket but this time he visibly drops the blanket to the audience in the line "And if I gotta to drop another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don't die, then I'll become the monster!"
It would make that part just as visibly insane as the audio and thematically, how I see it, it's not until that part of the musical that Odysseus ever actually kills the baby. Throughout the 1st act Odysseus is very much emotionally and mentally in the middle of the song Just A Man as he constantly grabs at any and all excuses/potential paths to NOT kill the thing that he knows he NEEDS to kill. He's still arguing with the Gods that he can "raise him as my own... send him far away from home.... make sure his past is never known" at every turn.
It's not until he FINALLY faces all of the consequences of those choices, the consequences that Zeus warns him of "he will burn your house down ... he will find you wherever you may go ... the Gods will make him known" that he actually comes to terms with the fact that he WILL kill and he never truly kills that infant until he sings that line in Monster.
That's just how I see it, and I think the visualization of Odysseus carrying around that blanket and constantly grabbing at it until he finally kills it, the infant, and his guilt; would just be a great way to represent that on stage.

If (when) EPIC gets a stage/screen production
So basically I listened to the original draft of Full Speed Ahead and LOVED the intro and I wrote this little thing as an intro for WHEN (not if) it got a stage/screen production
---
Sing, O Muse, of a tale you have heard before.
It is a tale of a man who, after so many years away from his home, longs to return to the life he once knew.
It is a tale of a king who fights for his country even when countless others infest his castle walls, waiting to replace him.
It is a tale of love — between a husband and a wife who have been apart for far too long; and between a father and a son, neither knowing who the other has become, only faint memories of who he once was.
It is a tale of betrayal, of hardship, of loss; but also one of adventure, of wit, of hope.
Sing, O Muse, of the tale of Odysseus — a tale that is EPIC.
[Cue The Horse and the Infant]

The Underworld Saga, No Longer You
It's time for No Longer You! This is where stage elements really start to come into play, I hope y'all enjoy! Should be posting Monster soon!
Apologies for any formatting errors, I'm on mobile
Ao3 link here, full story under cut!
Stage directions are referenced, so here is a key:
(SR/SL are if you were standing on the stage, and what your left and right would be. If you were in the audience (house) it would be reversed) SR: stage right SL: Stage left CS: Center stage DS: Down stage US: Up stage MS: Mainstage (not a real industry term, but useful for this situation) Segue: means continue straight into without stopping Check out my pinned post for a diagram of the stage!
Segue from THE UNDERWORLD
Stage is still in the Underworld, fog machines continue, lights highlighting TIRESIAS in white/grey. As TIRESIAS begins, fog machines amp up, creating a thick fog by time of chorus. Projections will be onto mainstage fog. CREW exits during V1, leaving ODYSSEUS on the extension. TIRESIAS is blindfolded (use see-through fabric) and carries a wooden staff. Note: ODYSSEUS does not step onto mainstage during song until directed.
TIRESIAS stays SR until ODYSSEUS speaks.
TIRESIAS:
I am the prophet with the answers you seek
Time, I've unlocked it
I see past and future running free (He gestures, cue PROJECTION: A streak of white, winding across ground level, from TIRESIAS, SR to MidSL)
There is a world where I help you get home
But that's not a world I know
ODYSSEUS ( spoken, taking a step towards him ):
What?
Projections appear behind TIRESIAS as he walks.
TIRESIAS (crossing to CS):
I see a song of past romance                                                                         (PROJECTION: Shadow of PENELOPE)
I see the sacrifice of man                                                                               (PROJECTION: Shadow of CREW being slain by POLYPHEMUS)
I see portrayals of betrayal                                                                             (PROJECTION: Shadow of crew opening bag of wind) *replace if more context later?
And a brother's final stand                                                                             (PROJECTION: Shadow of EURYLOCHUS, sword drawn)
I see you on the brink of death
I see you draw your final breath
I see a man who gets to make it home alive                                                    (PROJECTION: Shadow of ODYSSEUS, but something is…off about his appearance)
But it's no longer you
(TIRESIAS waves and projections fade away)
ODYSSEUS (crossing towards him):
This can't be
We've suffered and sailed through the toughest of hells
Now you tell us our effort's for nothing?
TIRESIAS:
I see your palace covered in rеd                                                                      (PROJECTION: Ithaca palace, ceiling spotlight highlight in red)
Faces of men who had long beliеved you're dead
I see your wife with a man who is haunting                                                    (PROJECTION: PENELOPE held close by a shrouded figure)
(ODYSSEUS takes a step towards the projection)
A man with a trail of bodies (Projection disappears)
As ODYSSEUS speaks, he crosses the short distance between himself and TIRESIAS, placing a foot on the mainstage. As he does this, the audience gets a glimpse of the monster that Odysseus could be.
ODYSSEUS (spoken, angrily):
Who?!
TIRESIAS steps onto the extension, crossing past ODYSSEUS. ODYSSEUS turns to follow, stepping off of the mainstage. No projections for this chorus, let Tiresias do his thing on the extension.
*Note: I have no clue what the chorus is saying, so it will be left out of the lyrics for now
TIRESIAS:
I see a song of past romance
I see the sacrifice of man
I see portrayals of betrayal (He gestures at the ship set)
And a brother's final stand
(He turns to face ODYSSEUS)
I see you on the brink of death
(Takes a few steps towards him, ODYSSEUS steps back in horror)
I see you draw your final breath
(In time with music, he crosses to ODYSSEUS as he says:)
I see a man who gets to make it home alive
(Reaching ODYSSEUS, he pauses, standing shoulder to shoulder with him, as if he was to whisper this in Odysseus’ ear)
But it's no longer
You
(As he holds his final note, he brushes past ODYSSEUS and travels to the mainstage, exiting into the fog [ideally the fog is thick enough for him to become obscured])
Timed with ensemble vocals, ODYSSEUS starts after TIRESIAS, but realizes it's futile, stopping mid-extension walkway. He is left alone to deal with the weight of what he has been told.
Segue into MONSTER

Note
where can i watch it?
Epic the Musical is sadly currently not available to watch, as it hasn’t been performed yet! However, all the songs that have been released so far are on YouTube, here is the creator of the musical
In addition if you want to listen to clips of songs that haven’t been released fully yet, you can look up compilations of all the clips such as this one!
youtube
Last but not least, this musical has a very active animatic community, with some really great videos showing visuals on some of the songs! Two of the more famous creators are Wolfythewitch, and Gigi! (Both are also on YouTube, and on Tumblr too!!) There are countless more amazing videos too, so I highly recommended watching those!

My headcanon for possible hypothetical stage production of Epic is that whoever plays Telemachus also plays young Odysseus in WOTM while old Odysseus looks at the scene from the side. Hear me out.
Open arms ends with tired Odysseus sitting on a log and Polites joining him for the final, soft "greet the world with open arms, greet the world with open arms". After Polites ends the song, everything freezes and the light changes. Odysseus gets pulled into quickthought by Athena.
He stands up and the log with Polites goes offstage (prolly a turnrable or smth). At this point Athena is only a voice. She enters the stage after "Let me remind you" and right before "goddess of wisdom, master of war" *cue applause*. Odysseus moves away to the side of the stage and watches.
As Athena sings her verse, young Odysseus (a.k.a. the actor for Telemachus) play-fights with his friends in the back of the stage. When Athena sings about the boar, they immitate young Ody defeating the boar (prolly one actor holding a big prop of a boar head).
Then young Ody runs to the center of the stage for the "Show yourself" part, then him and Athena have this whole duet.
Now present Odysseus takes a few steps towards the center, where young Ody and Athena have their little training choreography.
The song ends with Ody winning against Athena in practice and Athena singing "I still intend to make sure you don't fall behind" while young Ody listens to her carefully. When she sings "You are a warrior of the mind", young Ody runs offstage, right past the present Odysseus and Athena sings "Don't disappoint me" to the present Odysseus!
Athena disappears, Polites approaches Odysseus and they return to the ship.
Thank you *drops mic*

Alright guys, hear me out:
When Epic finally gets on stage, there should be two levels to it. Like how in Hamilton, there’s the platform above the stage, kind of a like a balcony or walkway? And then it should be decorated to be like Olympus, and none of the humans or mortals ever go up there, it’s just the gods who sing down at all the measly heroes, and then sometimes they (mostly Athena) come down and actually talk to them, but most of the time it’s literally orders/reprimands coming from above.
