Thinking about ✨her✨ today

Remaking this Éowyn after 10 years of cosplay was so gratifying! The trim is all hand embroidered and I’m so proud of how well I was able to dye the matelassé to match the corset suede 😍

Just a little ✨sneak peek✨ at the collar for Eowyn. OH. MY. GOODNESS. I am thrilled hahah. I had to burn away the support fabric on the lace. And yes I mean literally with a lighter (carefully) and then glued it to the fabric so that I could hand sew it on there before I put it all together.

This was easily the most difficult part of this project so far and I’m so happy it’s done. 🥹 I may have this completed before next week!!!

Granite Con day two! With shenanigans!

So glad I was able to chat with more people today, share my work, talk shop—it was great! Thanks to folks who stopped by and I hope I was able to inspire!

Working on the dress yoke today.

As you can see in the last picture, Éowyn's dress has embroidery and pin tucks around the neckline. Like a Dr. Seuss character, I thought and thought and thought how to replicate the look in a way I could pull off with now only 13 days left to finish. I ended up using gold thread and one of the fancy stitches on my sewing machine to mimic the look of the embroidery after making the hem with a zigzag stitch in white. For the pin tuck look, I did a straight stitch in white 7/8 inch apart, using my sewing machine's plate as a guide.

The real dress has hook and eyes holding the yoke together (visible in the RotK scene where Théoden tells Éowyn to lead the people and "I would have you smile again") but the pattern calls to just sew the two pieces together so I did. Next is attaching the yoke to the dress. I hated this part in the mockup so may Vairë bless my sewing this time lol.

Narrow stitched down pleats in parallel lines.
