After spending the better part of the last two weeks working outside in this extreme heat, I’m glad to finally be back home in the AC and my comfy chair. It’s important work, but the weather didn’t do us any favors. I was overseeing the excavation of highly contaminated soil and debris that had been used to fill in part of an old quarry. Since the contaminated debris was directly on top of a thick layer of ash and glass (incinerator waste), I got to play archeologist and try to date the layer by identifying the intact glass bottles and jars. And for the first time in my ten years investigating historic fill materials, I found a marble!

#the glass bottles are cool and all#but you end up seeing a lot of the same stuff#I may post photos of the ones I brought home later#geology#environmental consulting#remediation#historic fill#incinerator bottom ash#glass#marbles

Some things that I personally mentioned:
loss of jobs in environmental consulting
possible loss of defensive capabilities due to resource destabilization
loss of national security potential from climate related isses
less power on the world stage from resource degredation
subjective language
transparency and opportunity for comment that NEPA provides
dislike of big, obtuse government actions like not telling us anything and abusing power over federal lands
possible defaulting on native treaties
whatever you can come up with is good too! play to strengths and values! play to objective language! legal-ese isnt my specialty but CEQA is!!!
We have 30 days until the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) laws are rescinded. This is the 50-year bedrock of American conservation. Normally, these actions take years but the administration has provided 30 days for public comment gutting clean water and clean air. Drop what you’re doing, before you make any more calls or read any more social media posts, please populate the Federal Register with dissent.
A. Go to https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/02/25/2025-03014/removal-of-national-environmental-policy-act-implementing-regulations
B. Click on the green rectangle in the upper right corner ("SUBMIT A PUBLIC COMMENT") .
C. Fill in your comment, and info at the bottom, and SUBMIT COMMENT.

What is the most effective strategy for studying to prepare for a mechanical engineering exam?
The most effective way to prepare for a mechanical engineering exam is to have a realistic and practically achievable plan and routine to be followed daily. Proper management of time, regular practice in a disciplined manner, and better conceptual understanding are all necessary. Start by carefully reviewing the syllabus and highlighting key subjects such as material strength, fluid mechanics, machine design, and thermodynamics. Get the full potential of lecture notes and textbooks to develop a strong theoretical foundation, with the clarification of all basic concepts and minor details. To become familiar with question patterns and increase speed for Mechanical Exam Preparation, practice answering sample problems and past years' question papers on a regular basis for a set number of hours each day.. Creating a study schedule that allocates time for each topic ensures balanced coverage and prevents last-minute need to mug up concepts. Joining relevant and trustworthy study groups or online forums can help you learn through discussion, where you can get your questions answered. Completing brief, timed tests also improves exam accuracy and endurance. The secret to doing well on mechanical engineering tests is to maintain consistency, revise frequently, and concentrate on problem-solving strategies.
What techniques are frequently employed to increase mechanical components?
For engineering for Reliability Improvement systems to operate safely, effectively, and economically over the long term, mechanical component dependability must be increased. Many strategies are used in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance stages to improve dependability and lower failure rates.
1. Optimization of Design Including a sturdy design is one of the best strategies to increase reliability. This entails choosing suitable materials, implementing safety considerations, and forecasting stress and fatigue using simulation methods such as finite element analysis (FEA). The chance of any mechanical failure can also be decreased by designing with simplicity and fewer moving parts.
2. Manufacturing Quality Control It's critical to uphold excellent production standards. Early fault detection in production is aided by methods like statistical process control, non-destructive testing (NDT), and Six Sigma. Frequent quality checks guarantee that components meet specifications and perform as intended in real-world situations.
3. Preventive upkeep and observation Premature wear and tear can be avoided by routine maintenance, which includes lubricating applications, part replacement, and inspection. Furthermore, early problem detection before they become serious is made possible by the use of condition monitoring methods like vibration analysis and thermal imaging.
In conclusion, Improving the reliability of mechanical components involves a multi-stage approach—from design and manufacturing to proactive maintenance. Applying these methods helps reduce downtime, extend lifespan, and ensure consistent performance.

Building a Healthier Workforce: The Real Impact of Prioritizing Workplace Health and Safety
In the modern workplace, the concept of workplace health and safety has evolved far beyond compliance checklists and first aid kits. Today, it’s about fostering environments where employees feel protected, valued, and empowered to do their best work—because a healthy team is the foundation of any successful business.
At Audiomet, we understand the unique challenges Australian employers face in managing health risks, staying compliant with regulations, and supporting their workforce’s overall wellbeing. Here it is in use! Made to hold indoor air quality instruments for building surveys. Edge banded all of the exposed MDF and made a smaller stand for the little meters to get their sensors above the stand.
As always, feel free to ask any questions about the project or, in this case, air quality! Adjacent to geology, I worked under a certified industrial hygienist for six years and gained quite a bit of experience.

Attempted solid wood edge banding to clean up a panel to use as an instrument stand. Made a clean edge on the jointer, ripped to 1/4” on the table saw, then glued on to the exposed MDF. Hand planed until I hit the tape, then sanded flush.
#the veneer was paper-thin so I accidentally sanded through in a few spots#that’s what you get with free materials#woodworking#air quality#indoor air quality#environmental science#environmental consulting#industrial hygiene#geology adjacent

You shouldn't tell your workplace that you're neurodivergent, they'll treat you differently or think your incompetent *blah blah blah*.
