This post is to just ramble about my thoughts about Kei’s childhood.

-Always hyperfixates on the news whenever Yoshinori puts it on the TV. Kei watched cartoons of course and even had her fair share of mystery/fantasy books. But whenever it’s on tv he just sits down on the ground and just listens.

-Would often make up crime scenes in his room by setting some of his plushies, use toilet paper as a makeshift chalk outline for the “body”(It was a teddy bear of his) and have her sidekick Maru(a cat plushie) help her during “investigations”

-Grim reminds Kei of Maru whenever they investigate crime scenes together. Like his childhood imagination became reality.

-Whenever Yoshinori and Ida goes into her room during these “investigations,” Kei would alert them by saying: “This is an active crime scene please step away from the premises!” They of course left him to do his thing since they respected their kid’s dream. [Yoshihiko was even more proud whenever he saw her play]

-%100 this kid owned a rubix cube. I JUST KNOW IT! THAT WAS HIS STRESS TOY WHEREVER HE GOT OVERWHELMED AND AGITATED!

-Can name every single case her father has ever been in and often told the kids in her school this knowledge. Which creeped them out because most of them were murder cases and also because Kei didn’t seem creeped out by it.

-Kei got all of that case info from Yoshinori’s desk whenever he away at his agency. I think I mentioned this before but Kei would often read through the files at his dad’s desk and not bat an eye the crime scene photos because he only cared about the documents info. [yes he did get caught and yes Yoshinori was concerned as fuck. Ida on the other hand didn’t really see a problem with it since she was fine]

Ida: What? These little scratches? Of course our kid isn’t scarred by it! Besides she was only looking at the text.

Yoshinori: They’re literal mutilated corpses…

Ida: Yeah and?

Yoshinori:…I can see where Kei got this behavior from.

-Kei picking up a psychology book was the beginning of the end. The way she called people out out back in the day was so accurate that it scared her classmates and it led to a student teacher conference. She was never allowed to do that again or else Kei faced expulsion.

Of course Kei grew out of some of these old behaviors but he cannot doubt the…interesting shit that he did throughout his life.

The secret to my sudden thoughts is: being heavily hyperfixated on the octotrio to the point that they live rent free in my head and when I dissociate I picture mini octotrio swimming in my empty head (filled with water and fishes too ofc) until I need to snap out of it

I love the ever-growing list of adjectives that apply to Jade glowing does it ever get too bright though? I imagine cuddling with him and suddenly yuu gets ASSAULTED by the brightness of Jade and his silly feelings can you just- yk like find a brightness button

I keep thinking about yuu with a pet fish lol being a simple fish in a nicely decorated tank.. *two big eels slam the door open* WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE- it's clearly eel cuddle time duh (Somehow someway the tweels decided to gift you a clock with the white background except when it hits certain hour 'Eel cuddles' is written in it soo..CUDDLES ARE ON BABY) Floyd being Floyd and going to tackle you into the bed, dude your fish thinks that yuu is being EATEN ALIVE even worse when they stay the night fish thinks "Okay so my owner didn't get eaten cool I should sleep-" and hearing the spooky cackling of jaws now the fish has entered panic mode swimming around rapidly you can bet money that they are laughing at it

Also also eels doing headbutts when they want more pets (Floyd needs to learn to be more careful though)

I think that Jade gets brighter the more intense his emotions get, Floyd is the same. The main difference is that Jade intentionally tries to be reserved in his mannerisms and expressions, and I think his body can sense it. To ensure that there are no miscommunications (after all, the wrong signal can mean very bad things under the sea) his body makes up for it by turning him into the equivalent of a hazard sign.

They'll dull and brighten softly depending on the scenario and emotions he's feeling. There are warning signals, which are fast, bright, and are accompanied by growling and hissing. There are the happy signals, which are usually just a glow that brighten when he's laughing or feeling particularly excited. And of course there are the mating signals, a soft glow that brightens up every so often from simulation. Usually, the glow will respond to the partner's own mating signals, signaling either a reciprocation or rejection, and continue displaying so that the partner knows if the other is enjoying their affections or not.

(It's a very beautiful display, to be quite honest. but it takes quite some time to get to such an intimate point with him.)

In Floyd's case, he takes delight in harassing your pet fish. He's really jealous, but he likes teasing small things, and you know if you really wanted to take care of a sea creature, you could just join him in the sea and tend to him. It's good practice for when you're eventually married, anyways!

As such, you're just chilling in bed with him (Grim is nearby, but just out of Floyd's reach) and giggling at the clack of his jaws. It's cute how sweet he gets with you! All while unaware that your poor pet fish is frantically swimming in their tank, debating on whether it should hide or check on you to make sure you didn't get eaten.

Floyd knows exactly what he's doing, and he just has to make sure that he keeps Grim supply of premium tuna up so that when the little guy translates your fish's language, he doesn't let it slip that Floyd's been mildly terrorizing the poor thing.

Then he'd get banned from cuddles and Ramshackle and that's just no good!

I find it endlessly hilarious that Rook Hunt invited Malleus to his birthday party and Malleus, guy who yearns to be included in stuff and to be invited, didn't go. To be fair, Malleus seems to find Rook annoying and Leona also didn't want to come though Ruggie was there for food. It's just funny that Malleus clearly has a bias and will not accept just ANY invitation.

Mally being like "only two people invite me anywhere 😔 (yuu and lilia)" when Rook Hunt is right there lol but then Malleus doesn't vibe with him so that's just how it is

it's a bit sad in some aspects as well, of course. Guy invites two of people he finds super interesting and they don't want to come but such is life. And then another who rejects the invitation probably for fear of further alienation.

Still, very funny to think about Malleus having such a clear bias

Imagine Malleus ignores the invitation to Rook's birthday and goes to hang out with Yuu instead only to find out Yuu was hanging out with Rook. Rook offers some of his favorite food to Yuu (liver pate, basically a creamy spread made from liver, usually some type of poultry, blended with spices like onions, garlic, herbs. It sounds like a meat dip basically, sounds good, spread on buttered toast, he says he doesn't often get have it because it has to be fresh to taste good so he's very happy to have some and offers yuu some).

AN: Day 3 and it's Floyd! His was the first fic that I completed so I have a special spot for this in my heart. I love how this turned out honestly. Also this prompt was the one that gave me the idea to do this event in the first place lol. I tried my best to keep Floyd in character as much as I could, but if he feels ooc I'm sorry hehe. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

You could feel Floyd staring holes into your head as you served the customers in the Mostro Lounge.

The Lounge was busier than usual. With the steady arrival of the holidays, even the gruelling exams the staff had set for the student body couldn't dampen their spirits, which meant celebrating in advance at the Lounge with friends. And with business booming your house warden was in even higher spirits. Of course, the growing rush of patrons for the Lounge meant that nearly all of Octavinelle was roped in to help out, serving dishes and working in the kitchen.

A little extra pocket money never hurt anyone, plus Azul had assured that everyone who would work a certain amount of hours at the lounge would be getting a considerable bonus, so you didn't mind having to work long hours scrubbing dishes or smiling at customers as you helped them pick out what to eat and drink. It was a welcome distraction from poring over your books till your brain turned to mush and driving yourself up the wall overthinking about the results of your exams (that you knew you did well at; it's just irrational fears doing what they do best).

What you did mind, however, was the fact that somehow, you had managed to catch the attention of one of the most unpredictable students at Night Raven College, Floyd Leech.

No, scratch that. Catching his attention was... fine, but holding it for more than two days?

That was terrifying.

You mentally cursed out the idiot who had attached sprigs of mistletoe to all the doorways in the Octavinelle dorm. While it had led to many funny and embarrassing moments for others in the dorm, it had quickly become tiresome to monitor yourself while entering or exiting a room. Especially when the mistletoe couldn't be removed with normal and magical means, much like a heterochromatic eel merman who just wouldn't let you be ever since you explained the silly tradition behind them to him.

"Heeyy flying fishie~"

The familiar drawl of his voice made you freeze momentarily. You held the empty server tray close to your chest as if the round piece of metal could somehow protect you from the tall eel who had taken an interest in you. "Yes, Floyd?"

Floyd gave you a lazy smirk, swinging an arm around your neck and leaning against you. You struggled a bit to hold yourself up with his added weight. You watched your vice-house warden and the twin brother of this menace turn a blind eye to your predicament, and resisted the urge to throw the tray at Jade's head as you caught a glimpse of a smirk on his lips.

"Say, why'd you run away from me yesterday, hm? Did ya wanna get squeezed that badly?" Floyd giggled, and you couldn't figure out whether your heart was cartwheeling inside your chest out of fear or because of how unbelievably adorable that sound was.

"I just- I needed to study."

"Ehhh? Study?" Floyd narrowed his eyes at you, and you prayed you had not flipped the switch on his mood from happy to angry.

"Studying's boooring. I wanna play with flying fishie~" Floyd hummed, a mysterious glint in his eyes as he pulled you towards the kitchen. One that went unnoticed as your eyes caught sight of the one plant you had started dreading seeing.

"Why is there mistletoe on the door to the kitchen?" You asked, but your question came too late. Floyd had already opened the door and pulled you in. Another sprig of mistletoe was stuck on the inside, the white berries looking down on the two of you through flecks of green. It felt like the tiny parasitic plant was mocking you for finally falling into its trap.

"Ohh, we're under mistletoe~ Just like a few days ago, isn't that right flying fishie~" he smirked, crowding you till you had your back against the door.

You looked past him to see.... no one?

Where did everyone go? Service wasn't over yet, so why was the kitchen empty?

"Flying fishie~ Where's my kiss~" he hummed, eyes carefully assessing you as his fingers pinched your cheek. You tried to act stern, but your words came out in a tired tone.

"Floyd, stop trying to get me to walk under the mistletoe with you."

“You break the tradition and you end up being cursed for life. That's what you told me. Is that what you want?” he said, his face turning sombre, as if he hadn't been smiling at you all this while.

"Are- Are you seriously blackmailing me right now?!” you sputtered, your heart beating fast as you looked at him. Floyd leaned forward, smiling innocently.

"Maybe~"

You weighed your options, eyes carefully watching the other, much to his amusement. You were well and truly trapped between the door and this absolute wall of an eel with no way out. Atleast, none that didn't involve you giving in to the tradition some way.

Huffing, you finally decided on a course of action. You held his smug face and turned it to the side, quickly planting a kiss on his cheek. The shock and surprise of this unexpected kiss loosened his hold on you, and you quickly slipped out the door.

Speed-walking past a chuckling Jade and a confused Azul, you tried to control the heat you could feel in your cheeks and at the back of your neck by sheer force of will. A quick glance at the clock showed that your shift for the day was over.

You had never left the Lounge quicker.

Jade entered the kitchen, a smile on his face as he saw Floyd leaning against the wall with a surprised look.

"Flying fishie kissed me," he mumbled, and Jade had to force back the amused laugh that threatened to break free. "I suppose the mistletoe worked its magic. Humans sure do have funny rituals."

Jade's words seemed to bring back the spark in Floyd, who gave his twin a blinding smile. "I'm gonna go ask them for more!" he said as he rushed past him, and Jade shook his head in amusement as he called out to his twin.

"Remember to confess this time, Floyd."

After a while of shopping, the group of three humans and one monster returned to Night Raven College.

The students parted ways for the Prefects, but curious eyes followed Rollo with every step he took. Some looked confused, others sent him unpleasant stares. He could tune them out, no problem.

As they arrived back to Ramshackle dorm, however, a situation they didn't expected happened.

"Irene, Morutel, and... Flamme?"

"YOU AGAIN!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"

Malleus came to visit the dorm on a whim, as usual. But this time, he had Silver and Sebek with him.

Such a sudden encounter with both parties who didn't like each other to begin with would not end well. And of course, it proceeded to turn into an even bigger mess, much to the Prefect duo's dismay.

Sebek yelled out, making everyone in the vicintiy flinch in surprise.

Grim found his hands flew up to cover his ears from the louder than normal yell. Silver quickly stood in front of Malleus, ready to protect him from Rollo. Said perpetrator of this commotion was watching with a blank stare, silently asking the Righteous Judge why he must curse him with an encounter with Draconia the moment he stepped a foot into NRC.

What a cruel joke fate had set him up with.

"Wait- Sebek, no!"

"You are a guest to our school, you should have been treated as such. My apologies for Sebek's rudeness, Flamme." Malleus gave Rollo a simple smile, though it made the hairs on the back of the silverette's neck stand up.

Hillary was quick to stop Sebek, who was roughly grabbing Rollo by the collar of his shirt, and tried to separate them. Meawhile, Irene, as calm as she could manage, explained what had happened to Malleus and Silver.

Understanding the situation, Malleus only then told Sebek to let go of Rollo. If a fight broke out without being stopped, their two Prefects would rain hell on the student body.

No one wanted to be put through their strange spells and unorthodox potions, never again.

"It's... alright, Draconia. I'm fully aware of how dedicated your guards are to you. I just didn't expect them to be so... hasty."

Rollo knew for sure, that smile was anything but sunshine and rainbows. That and the hostile auras exuding from his two knights. However, Rollo couldn't just leave it at that and accept such defeat.

Beside magic, the thing he couldn't stand the most in this world was Night Raven students.

"Alright, that's it...!"

Meanwhile, Hillary had been watching the whole thing like it was her favourite soap opera. Only when Rollo looked as if he would pass out anytime soon from the verbal assault, did she finally went to stop the black-haired girl. She pushed Irene over to Malleus, waiting for her to cool off.

At that moment, Irene felt as if something snapped in her. As everyone were stunned from her sudden burst of anger, she threw at Rollo an astounding myriad of harsh words that she wouldn't normally use.

The more she looked at the silverette, the more pissed she was. From their previous trip to Fleur City until now, Irene rant out all her pent up anger on Rollo.

After Irene calmed herself down, she received a round of laughter from Malleus. He didn't expect his Child of Man would have such moments. A bit mean-spirited, sure, but that didn't mean she was any less endearing to him.

"I- Please stop talking, Tsunotarou!!!"

Irene exclaimed in embarrassment, trying in vain to cover her reddened face. Earlier, she was so pissed, she didn't notice her surroundings, and only when Hillary pushed her away did she remember what she did. That was so embarrassing... Why didn't that witch Hillary stop her earlier!?

If you guys couldn't already tell, my ♡Strawberry Magic!!♡ Shouto x reader fic is based off of Cherry Magic by Yuu Toyota!! The title looks silly (like my fic) and obviously Strawberry Magic!! contains a few spoilers for the show, but if you haven't already watched/read Cherry Magic, I totally recommend it! “Oi herbivore, come back to bed.”

Leona looks up from his bed with tired eyes, watching his lover pouring over their notes with a hunched back. A grimace adorns his handsome face as he hears them muttering to themselves, the latter being too immersed in their work to hear the beastman’s words. Leona pushes himself up from his bed, the plush mattress creaking slightly under his weight.

He saunters over towards Yuu, wrapping his long arms around their frame. Soft brown hairs tickle the prefect’s neck as Leona nuzzles his face under their jaw, peppering them with soft kisses. His tail flicks lazily behind him as he pulls them to his chest. Yuu jumps in their spot at the contact.

“Hey,” he nearly whispers, voice soft and deep. “It’s past midnight already. Come to bed.”

Yuu stares at the clock on Leona’s desk (it was a gift from Ruggie, with a very loud alarm), surprised to see how fast time had gone. The prefect originally came to Leona’s room to study in his company, preferring to have the lion’s soft snores in the background rather than the screeching voice of Grim and the spectral visits from Ramshackle’s ghostly residents. They had only meant to stay for a couple of hours before returning to their own dorm for curfew.

They sigh bitterly, looking at their essay with a disgusted sneer. Despite working on this particular assignment for hours now, Yuu found that they hadn’t made much progress at all. Everything about the work was overstimulating, making the prefect unable to focus.

Yuu leaned back in Leona’s desk chair, turning their head to meet their boyfriend’s temple. They bump their head against his and give him an apologetic smile before kissing him.

“‘M sorry, Leona. Didn’t mean to take this long. I’ll head back to Ramshackle now.”

But as Yuu lifts themselves up onto their feet, intending on packing up their materials, Leona’s strong arms keep them against his muscular frame. Forcefully, yet also gently enough, he drags the prefect towards his bed, pulling them both down as falls back onto the plush blankets. Yuu lays there stunned for a moment before trying to squirm out of Leona’s grasp.

“Leona, I need to go now. Curfew was a while ago and Grim’s probably worried I’m not back yet.”

“Hah? Who cares what he thinks?” Leona huffs, pulling Yuu impossibly closer to him as he rearranges his long limbs into a more comfortable position. “‘Sides, he’ll be fine. He knows you came to see me so he can rest easy.”

“I don’t have any pajamas here.”

“Can’t believe you don’t have any of your shit here, considering how often you visit. Anyway, you can just borrow one of my extra shirts.” Leona smirks, lips curving up against your skin. “You look better in my clothes anyway.”

Yuu punches against the beastman’s arms lightly, unable to hide the amused smile on their face. “Sounds tempting, but isn’t it against the rules for students to swap rooms without proper arrangements?”

“Oh, so now you care about those pathetic rules. Didn’t hear you complainin’ back when you made that deal with the Octopunk. What are you now, a second Rosehearts?”

“That was because I was otherwise homeless! Didn’t help that Crowley was completely useless then too.”

“Yeah yeah, whatever you say.” Leona rolls his eyes half-heartedly.

Truthfully, he wasn’t able to come up with a good retort since what Yuu said really was the truth. The only thing the housewarden knew was that he wanted his herbivore nearby; exam season had fallen upon the Night Raven College campus, and since the otherworldly prefect had to keep their grades up for both theirs and Grim’s sake, Leona and Yuu were hardly able to find the time to nap together like before. Leona respected his partner’s wishes to focus on studying, although it took quite some convincing (Yuu was coerced into surrendering a pillow and some other items so that their boyfriend could be constantly surrounded by their scent).

Still, nothing compared to taking naps in his bed together, or sharing a meal in the dining hall, or falling asleep to the sounds of each other’s voices late at night. Leona also knew the importance of rest, and that a human’s much more fragile body needed more time to recover than a beastman’s or a fae’s. That, on top of his own selfish desires, forced him to physically restrain you from leaving that night.

“You needa get that damn Grim to start working harder,” he yawns. “You can’t be working for two people like this.”

“I mean, it’s not usually that bad. More often than not, the homework here isn’t much harder than what I had to do at home.” Yuu hums before continuing. “It’s just… this particular assignment that’s getting to me.”

“You’re stressing out that much over one assignment? How bad can it be?”

“Crewel wants us to write an essay on some scientific compositions of rare elements found in Twisted Wonderland,” Yuu recalls with a sigh. “It shouldn’t be this hard, and I know I have a month until it’s due, but the element I was assigned is so rare that there’s almost no information on it! Like how am I supposed to meet the minimum length requirement if I barely have any content to begin with?

“And don’t even get me started on the fact that Crewel is very particular about how he wants students to compose their works. I can’t believe he has the time to be picky both about his fashion choices and school assignments.”

Leona snorts at the last comment. Ah yes, he muses. Crewel and his infamous nitpicky side. It’s a wonder I passed his class in my first year.

“‘M sure you’ll do fine,” the prince mumbles, feeling sleep overcome his body again. “You always push through your troubles; it’s one of the reasons why I asked you out.” One of the reasons why I became attracted to you.

When Yuu doesn’t respond, Leona gently pinches at their sides. The prefect gives an exaggerated sigh before throwing their hands up.

“Okay okay, I give in. Let me just get into some comfier clothes then.”

Score, Leona thinks to himself as he untangles his limbs from his lover’s. He watches Yuu with earnest eyes as they move towards his messy wardrobe. The prefect picks out a cotton t-shirt with motifs from Sunset Savanna and a pair of Leona’s grey sweatpants that he would wear on lazy weekends. Yuu then walked towards the joint bathroom, closing the door to change.

When they re-emerge, it takes everything in Leona to not jump at them immediately. His ears twitch with delight, a purr threatening to escape from his chest as he eyes his lover in his clothes.

They really need to do this more often.

Yuu looked quite comfortable in Leona’s clothing, the shirt fitting them nicely while the waistband of the sweatpants were stretchy enough that they could fit snugly around their waist, held up by the black drawstrings that hung in the front.

Yuu shoves their uniform into their bag along with their school supplies. They left it on the floor and peeled back the cozy blanket on Leona’s bed before crawling under it. The prince’s arms stretch out, beckoning Yuu into his embrace. After settling in together, limbs intertwined under the covers and bodies flush against each other, Leona gives Yuu a few chaste kisses before reaching out to turn off the lamp on his desk.

However, he doesn’t fall asleep immediately, and neither does Yuu, if their heartbeat quickening was any indication. Leona frowned, not happy that troublesome thoughts continued to cloud his lover’s mind so late at night.

“Yuu…” he whispered, opting to use his lover’s real name as opposed to the teasing labels he gave them.

“Sorry,” they whispered back, their grip on Leona’s shirt tightening. “I might need a few moments to calm down.”

Had it been anyone else, the prince would have left the conversation at that before rolling around and falling asleep, but because this trouble was afflicting the person he cared for the most, he felt compelled to comfort them as much as he could.

And so, Leona began to sing, though with how quiet he was being, it sounded more like a poem with a rhythm than a lullaby, but hearing his voice and knowing how he was trying to help Yuu filled their heart with warmth.

The song narrated the story of a lion’s pride, featuring a young cub and its mother and father. In calculated stanzas it told the little lion to come home for the night, where the father would protect the pride, and where the mother would be there for the cub to cuddle up to. It emphasized the values of family, of community, and of protecting one’s loved ones.

The lullaby made Yuu’s heart flutter, and they smiled inwardly as they came to the conclusion that Leona suited both the parent lions from the song; with his strong arms to protect the prefect from harm, but also to soothe them from their troubles. When Leona finished, Yuu could feel the tension leaving their body.

“Is that a lullaby from Sunset Savanna?” they ask quietly. Leona hums against their forehead in affirmation.

“My mother used to sing it to me and Falena. She really valued family, and hoped the song would teach us how to care for our own in the future.” He then snorted. “Didn’t think I’d ever see the day where I’d use it.”

Yuu looks up from where they lay, their eyes tracing Leona’s resting figure under the moonlight that filtered through the large windows of his room. At first, they didn’t know how to respond; even after they started dating, Leona remained quite private about his family life, so the prefect understood that this was quite a vulnerable moment for the lion.

Yuu eventually decides to leave a long, soft kiss on Leona’s forehead before tucking their face back under his chin.

“Thanks,” they finally whisper. “I feel much better already. Goodnight Leona.”

The housewarden remained awake for a few more moments, this time confirming that Yuu had finally succumbed to their drowsiness. A ghost of a smile tug on his lips as he kisses the top of their head. He closes his eyes, tail curling around his partner’s leg gently before falling asleep himself.

it’s november 5th, the day of the party. upon finding out that yuu was also invited (for newspaper purposes), you two decided to go together.

why not go together? you both got invited, and you both live in the same dorm, so might as well.

yuu tapped you on the shoulder, “hey, i’ll take grimmy with me and interview one of the twins for a while. you enjoy yourself, okay?”

you nodded back, “alright! have fun! and don’t let grim ruin too much.”

“MYAH! I HEARD THAT!”

and while yuu was preoccupied with jade, floyd decided to take this opportunity to come up to you.

“shrimpyy~ i’m so happy you could make it!”

“ah! floyd! i’m happy to be here too. how’s your party?” you smile.

floyd giggles, “suuuuper fun! it’s not like, the parties i had in the sea, y’know? it’s way less formal and more my style!”

“good to hear! say… do you want to know what your present is?” you take out a (poorly) wrapped gift.

the birthday boy grins and nods his head excitedly, grabbing the present from your hands. “ooh, feels a bit soft. let me guess!”

“go ahead.”

“hmmm, is it… a plushieeeee?”

you nod, “correct! but not just any plushie. open it up!”

floyd slowly tears open the wrapping paper, but once he realizes what it is he gasps with exaggeration. this results in him speeding up the unwrapping process, and when he’s finally done, he holds it up for both of you to see. telling by his facial expression, he’s absolutely delighted.

“A SHRIMPY PLUSH? it’s so cute, and reminds me of you~! did you make it yourself?”

“how’d you guess?”

he smiled, flashing his sharp teeth right at you, “i only guessed because one of the eyes was wonky. but i still love it!”

oh. you had nearly forgot about that.

“well, the reason i made it was because i thought you could have a shrimp that you could squeeze whenever you wanted! and plushies are soft, squish-able and very cute. right…?”

“of course,” floyd lifted you up into the air by holding you under your arms, “but nothing could ever beat squeezing the original shrimpy.”

he sure has a tight grip and you want to tell him to put you down, but you’ll allow it just this once.

“happy birthday, floyd.”

“ah, prefect. i’m glad you could make it to me and floyd’s party. how is everything going?”

you shook your head, “i should be asking YOU that. it’s your birthday after all, but everything’s going well.”

jade puts his thumb and index finger on his chin, “how thoughtful of you. i think floyd is really enjoying his birthday, and i can’t deny that i am as well. however, i find that everything has gotten better with you here.”

you slap him lightly on the arm, “you’re so good at flattery. anyways, i got you a present! let me just…”

setting down your backpack, getting the present out of your bag was somewhat difficult, but eventually you did manage to get it out.

“here you go! don’t drop it.”

with elegance, jade takes the present from your arms and curiously looks at it from both sides. what a funky shape, but he recognizes it. “you couldn’t have gotten me a mushroom this large, right? it’s not very soft either, yet…”

“oh, just open it if you want.” you point at the counter.

jade nods, “alright, if you insist.” he sets it down on the counter and neatly unwraps it, eyes wide when he sees what it is.

“tada! hope you like it, jade!”

“is this… a mushroom lamp?”

“yeah! i hope you like i— jade, you look so shocked. are you okay…?

“…i love it. give me a moment, would you?” jade smiles at you before scooping the lamp into his arms, and (speed) walking away.

“wait, jade—! come back, you can plug it in and test it later—“

i guess he loved the present, however you feel as if you should have given him the lamp later…

oh well, too late now. as you watch jade mess around with the lamp light settings, you can’t help but feel accomplished with yourself.

And yes the snake is because Jamil’s my favourite character! They also have very boopable snouts in real life. Ignihyde is full of introverts who like to stay in their own rooms, but also full of nerds who are super into whatever they’re interested in. I bet there’d be at least one or two people who like Mythomagic there if it were canon in twst (1/4?)

🐍, nobody in PJO canon seemed to share his interest so I’d love for if Nico could discover friendship through his favourite card game and be happy there… but him feeling right at home in Ramshackle with a small number of residents is also just so him. Will also strikes me as someone who’d be in RSA instead, so Nico having some people he’d be willing to stay for in NRC would be so important for him to not feel lonely. Yuu and Grim to the rescue, I hope he likes cats. (2/?) 🐍 I’d give so much to see him feel accepted and brighten up a bit more.I’ll be honest I am super, super bad at making headcanons and writing so I really enjoy reading other people’s stuff far more, I always feel embarrassed about my own ideas or just can’t come up with much. BUT Leo in Ignihyde - I think he’d have a blast with all the technology lying around that he could play with and use for inventions, even if he’s weirded out by getting sorted into somewhere so gloomy-looking at first (3/?) 🐍He might not really get what other students are nerding out about like the latest anime though, he doesn’t strike me as the type to be super into shows and media (chronically offline). He’d have a lot of projects going on in his room all the time lying around that he keeps working on, but he starts more before he finishes them because he just has so many ideas. (4/?) 🐍 not sure how he’d interact with other Ignihyde students but I suuure hope Azul never notices all the cool stuff Leo’s making because he’d want to market them, stat. Leo’s not going to be good at reading those contracts down to the fine print. i love nico a ridiculous amount lol, he was my favorite PJO character ever since i first read the original books. and even though i do have some issues with the sun and the star, i still love his development. it actually reminds me a lot of how idia, even though his anxiety definitely hasn't gone away, has been shown since the end of book 6 to be making more of an effort to put himself out there and try to be friendly with his classmates because he does want to have friends, he's just traumatized and scared.

you have excellent taste for jamil being your fave. i should post some of my thoughts about scarabia on here at some point because i like both jamil and kalim a lot and could talk for ages about how fascinated i am by their dynamic, but some people have the most shockingly bad takes about jamil 😭 do you have any thoughts on what PJO cabin he'd be in?

that's true, i did think about how ignihyde probably has some students who'd be into mythomagic or a twst equivalent of it! but then i thought that since nico is still kind of closed off and most people in ignihyde are so unsociable that even cater has claimed to not have a single friend from there, he might not manage to connect with those people before transferring out. although it also occurred to me that maybe if he and leo were there in ignihyde at the same time, things could be a bit different?

see, i've always thought there were a surprising amount of similarities between leo and nico but the books never called attention to them since the two basically never got to interact. and i wish they had, because i think they could have an interesting friendship if they got to know each other better! so maybe in this AU they could be friends, and leo could be there encouraging nico to stay and helping him understand the tech. i've also gotten myself kind of attached to the idea of him moving into ramshackle though! i guess either idea could work, as long as nico gets to be happy.

i haven't had a chance to ask my friend (who i've referred to as a will solace expert because she has so many headcanons and thoughts about him) where she thinks will would end up yet! i do think that if he somehow ended up at NRC, he'd be one of the few light magic users there.

"i hope he likes cats" reminds me that i always thought it would be funny if nico DID like cats but was allergic to them. and still just insisted on having one anyway. well, hey, grim is constantly telling us that he's NOT a cat, so maybe he gets around this problem lol.

omg i totally get the feeling of being embarassed about your ideas, anon!! for the longest time i used to not really post any of my own thoughts because i feel like i'm not very creative and it made me nervous. i'm also not always the best at just thinking up general headcanons and ideas unless i've got some sort of prompt or theme to go by. even now sometimes i post headcanons about my favorite twst ships and such while thinking, what if everyone who reads this hates it. what if someone thinks my interpretation of riddle is so bad that i don't deserve my url ASKFJGFD.

i like your ideas about leo, though!! i did think a bit about how he might be as an NRC student, and i also thought he'd definitely adjust better than nico would (makes a lot of sense that he'd be weirded out by the gloomy atmosphere initially, though) and would be fascinated and excited by all the magical technology and gadgets. i also figure that since he is someone who's always seeking out quiet and personal space to be alone and work on his projects, he wouldn't mind too much that the students tend to keep to themselves. and canonically he tries to be a lot more of a loud outgoing jokester than he really is in order to cover up his insecurities and try to make people like him, so maybe he could make some friends there without feeling like he has to do that.

i think leo made a few pop culture references in the books (one i remember for sure is star trek, though he says he doesn't like it) so maybe he wouldn't quite be chronically offline but he also wouldn't be obsessive about it, because his engineering projects are his top priority. he's definitely not a gamer, but i could see him liking to have background noise while he works sometimes and putting on whatever anime everyone is talking about! …which makes me imagine one of his dorm mates getting annoyed at him because he wasn't paying enough attention to remember their favorite background character from episode 679 of one piece, lol.

oh him meeting azul would be a disaster for SURE lol, let's hope idia warns him and that he doesn't have any unfortunate encounters with floyd and jade. and i'm not sure what a fitting explanation for leo having fire hair would be but i do agree that it would be extremely cool. and for that matter, i guess we'd also need an explanation for idia and ortho's hair if they were in the PJO universe… my first thought is they could either just have normal hair (boring, but it works) or maybe it's an extremely rare hades kid thing.

82. Mile High by Liz Tomforde--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

MILE HIGH is the epitome of those romance books where they're a million hours long (in audiobook format) and even though everything seems like it's going well, there are still 10+ hours left in the book. My anxiety had a field day with that one and even though I was terrified, I really wanted to see these two get the happy ending they deserved.

I knew there was a lot of hype around MILE HIGH. In fact, I had convinced myself that I would probably not like it because sometimes hyped up things are just not for me. But I was very happy to find that I actually really, really enjoyed this. The chemistry between these two characters pulled me in, and their mature way of going through life together (save for a couple of instances) made me want to stay. Also, holy, that spice? Jaysus.

There's some pretty great conversations in this about self-worth and how we view ourselves and our bodies. Being someone who has always had a messy relationship with my body, this book was almost healing? The way the MMC talks to the FMC and helps her grow into a more genuinely confident woman was empowering. Even though he was that person who is really good at giving at advice but has a harder time retaining said advice for himself, this only made him more relatable as a person.

I loved the side characters and I'm salty that I didn't read their story before meeting them in this one. I also really loved how supportive they all were.

I enjoyed a lot of things about this book and save for some of the decisions made and admittedly, the length of the book, this was such a great and sexy read. I'm glad I gave it a shot! Now I need the sequel.

83. My Love Mix-Up! Vol. 3 by Wataru Hinekure (Writer) , Aruko (Illustrator) , Jan Cash (Translator)--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay, this was FREAKING CUTE. This volume had me kicking my feet in bed like an excited child. I'm so excited to see more of this relationship as it develops!

But I also loved seeing the best friends finally be more honest with each other. I'm excited, as well, to see that one relationship grow and change.

There was more honesty in this volume and more silly hijinks.

I can't say too much because spoilers LOL but I really liked how the characters were being called out for being scared to admit how they were feeling. I think everyone worked off each other really well.

84. Under Currents by Nora Roberts--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

UNDER CURRENTS started a bit differently than the past suspense books I've read by Nora Roberts and I think it was different mainly because it was from the POV of a MMC. It was also something that I could tell had some seriously dark undertones. And this book was DARK in that it dealt with a lot of physical abuse. It's not the darkest I've read, but it was still a bit surprising to see--which isn't a bad thing, it was almost slightly refreshing after I read a few of Robert's books.

I also liked that while this did have its similar formulaic outline as Roberts's past suspenseful romance novels, it deviated in some instances. That kept me on my toes, even though I could still kind of guess where the story was going.

What I will comment on is the fact that there was so much random kissing others on their lips? Like, not couples. Just like, an old ex gf who is married kissing her childhood dance date on the lips "lightly" as a platonic thing, or the FMC kissing a teen boy in "thanks" "lightly" on the lips. LOL why was there so much random light kissing on others' lips? It was weird LOL.

Anyway, another fun romantic suspense novel! Will hopefully pick up another Roberts book in the near future!

85. Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! by Yuu Toyota--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay, I really enjoyed CHERRY MAGIC! even if it gave me severe secondhand embarrassment LOL. I was screeching and giggling as I read the dirty thoughts going through the love interest's mind. I especially related to how the MC notices how different thoughts can be from the look on a person's face. It's so easy to hide what you're thinking because your brain and the privacy of your thoughts is that one part of you that truly belongs to you.

I like this concept and I'm excited to see how these two characters get on. Have I already ordered the next three volumes? Maybe...

86. Ready or Not by Cara Bastone--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

READY OR NOT was so much more than I was anticipating. I already loved this trope, but the way Cara Bastone explored this topic and the relationships surrounding the protagonist and her friends and love interest was done so well.

While this was definitely about the pregnancy the MC experiencing from the very beginning of the book, READY OR NOT was more about the characters and how all relationships have various levels to them. Also, how a pregnant woman is sometimes viewed by society--especially one that doesn't fit to the societal norm of how a pregnant woman should present herself and her "situation".

I know that some might view some of the situations as idealistic, I mean this is a fiction novel--the characters get to have idealistic outcomes sometimes. I loved the level of communication between everyone, the MC's level of maturity but also self-awareness. I loved her over-the-top energy levels and how she herself had some pretty big character growth moments.

I also listened to the audiobook of READY OR NOT and phew, that narrator was GREAT. She fully committed to the role and gave the MC so much personality. Also, the smuttier scenes will have you blushing. There weren't a lot of those, but the ones we got were definitely worth the wait after the building of anticipation.

This was just such a pleasant read and I think it's one of those drama-free books that will leave many readers happy and surprised.

— “hehe..honestly, he’s seriously the best boyfriend i could ever have… not like i’ve had any others,” you giggled wistfully to your first year friends, some more willing to listen than others ( guess who ). deuce smiled at your ramblings, betting tails as ace betted heads on a bet you didn’t know anything about ( though jack, sebek, and grim all seemed invested ), while epel joined you, albeit, clearly less on the fact of giggling to partake in vil’s praise.

— epel tilted his head with a sigh, “i don’t get how you never stop finding a way to praise him. sometimes you’re kind of like rook, y’know?” at that you just scoffed playfully with a chuckle, messily taking a largely portioned bite out of your food. ace turned to you just to pinch your cheek lightly to tease, “maybe clean up your face as you talk about him too, huh?” you swatted his hand away though, sticking out your tongue at him with a grin as he turned to grim who also started to place bets, but instead with his tuna, the others deciding to do the same ( not like you noticed ).

— you just shrugged your shoulders as epel awaited a response, “i’m just happy, i guess. i lucked out big time to be able to have a lover like him, y’know?” you grinned, and epel smiled at your comment. “maybe, but’cha know, i bet he lucked out with you,” he spoke with his usual expression of tongue slipping slightly as he messily ate his own food, not leaving a lick untouched.

— one final snort of amusement to yourself, you played with your food for what barely felt like a second before taking a larger bite out of it than before. no, you definitely lucked out more, and you know because vil invited you to spend time after school in his dorm room.

— you just barely moved a tad with your nose scrunched, laying in vil’s lap as he pampered you and gave you skincare as you laid in his face. the most he did, unlike before you started dating when you were simply well acquainted and nearing the unspoken terms of friendship where he calmly scolded you for making unsavory facial expressions, was tap your nose to relax it, and you in the process.

— “really my dear,” vil smiled down at you handsomely, “you should do your best not to move.” you wanted to respond as he continued to fufill his task of completing your facial routine for you, but you got lost in his ethereal eyes, as you usually did. a part of you was always unsure how you managed to even score the first date with him. after all, you were merely a speck of dust compared to the vil schoenheit. you knew he loved you for a fact, but you couldn’t help but feel yourself paling in comparison to him.

— you looked up at him from where you laid, still practically at a loss for words from your awe as he looked back at you relaxed but concerned by your expression given you were never one to be able to hide your feelings without strain. “sorry, it’s just,” you finally managed to get out the words with the feeling like your throat was just barely managed to spit them out as your heart twirled, “vil, you’re so…pretty. i don’t know how i’m able to call myself your lover like this.”

— just then, his shoulders relaxed as he’d taken a break from his pampering to listen to you closely, his face adorning a calm and understanding smile as he did, before closing his eyes to laugh your words off. “my love, i’d argue how much i feel the same. you’re pretty just the same, i’ll always be in love with your beauty, do you understand?” he cupped your cheek lightly, as to not make his efforts to care for your face useless. “not to mention how much of a lovely person you are, i feel lucky to have you beside me.”

— you had half a mind to turn your face away to not have to look him in the eyes in your sudden shyness, but you forced yourself not to as you know it’d get rid of his hard work. “heheh… i’m glad.” and to reflect that, vil put down his cosmetics beside him and leaned down to hug your figure where he could from his position ( it read mostly as him cradling you ), you gaining the confidence do to the same.

— “don’t forget how much i love you, dear.”

— you giggled through a breath of relief as you sat with your friends at lunch again, “i guess you were right epel,” you turned to him as he held a breath in his pride with his shoulders stiffened slightly to show it, “he was lucky to have me too, i guess.” you were barely able to register the way jack and sebek looked at the other three with one proclaiming it more calmly than the other,

— “guess we won the bet. told you the both of them would be vocal about their luck.”

— “[y/n]’s always vocal and vil’s not one to lie, it was an easy bet to make!”
