"Hello, Selene..."
english:
Hello Moon, how are you?
It's been a while since we last spoke
Me in a bench by the lagoon
You as a Goddess, heavens above
I know we talked about many a thing
The work, my family and sweet-winged love
And your wisdom has really helped me
So please, harken to me and my feelings within
Come and give counsel, O gentle Selene
For I know not what I'd do without you!
May I honour as I sit down here pondering
About friends, and loves and your pale kiss!
O wise Moon, you know my heart
For it burns, and aches and flys onward
And now, great titaness, I thank your light
For it is sober, suave, bringer o'peace of mind!
E sua sabedoria realmente me ajudou
Então, por favor, escutai-me e os sentimentos dentro
Venha e dê conselhos, ó gentil Selene
Pois não sei o que faria sem você!
Possa eu honrar-te enquanto me sento aqui, pensando
Sobre amigos, e amores e seu beijo pálido!
Ó sábia Lua, você conhece meu coração
Pois queima, dói e voa adiante
E agora, grande titânide, agradeço tua luz
Pois é sóbria, suave, portadora de paz de espírito!

[VOA is US State Media]
Cameroon lawmakers say they have high expectations from the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit that begins Tuesday in Washington.
The lawmakers hope the U.S. will agree to prosecute more than 200 leaders of the western Cameroon separatist movement currently living in the United States.
Emmanuel Nsahlai, an American-based human rights lawyer of Cameroonian origin, said the vast majority of people who raise funds to buy weapons for separatist forces in Cameroon's western regions are based in the U.S. "We have filed criminal complaints against close to 200 major Ambazonia separatist activists, all the major leaders in the U.S. of the Ambazonia Governing Council, and also filed criminal complaints against about a dozen of their non-profit organizations that they created to finance this separatist Ambazonia terrorism and violent crimes," Nsahlai said.
Ambazonia is the name armed groups want to give to an English-speaking state they hope to break off from Cameroon and its French-speaking majority. The conflict since 2017 has killed 3,500 people and displaced 750,000, according to the U.N.
Cameroon's government has for years been urging the U.S. and Europe to crack down on separatists operating outside the country.

While waiting to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington in the spring, Vietnam’s prime minister and his subordinates had a few undiplomatic things to say.
In unguarded comments picked up by a live State Department video stream, the delegation proudly discussed its resistance to American demands for a statement condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “We made them back off,” one official said, amid laughter. Perhaps most shockingly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh repeatedly used crude language to describe an earlier meeting with President Biden and other U.S. officials at a White House dinner.
The remarks soon found their way into a news story published by Voice of America’s Vietnamese-language service, and this rare unvarnished glimpse of Vietnam’s carefully stage-managed leaders soon went viral both inside Vietnam and among its worldwide diaspora.
And then it disappeared.
VOA offered no public explanation for what had happened to the story and why it was suddenly unavailable on its website, Facebook page and YouTube channel. In place of the missing footage, a notice in Vietnamese on its website simply said the video was no longer available following a review.
In fact, emails obtained by The Post indicate VOA took action after an official from the Vietnamese embassy in Washington complained that the hot-mic video violated Pham’s privacy. In a May 20 email to Voice of America, the official — Khahn Nguyen, the embassy’s press and cultural attache — said that the release of the footage was an “error” by the State Department.
“The conversation contains nothing special,” wrote Nguyen to VOA’s acting director, Yolana Lopez, requesting removal of the story. “The act of spreading [information about] a person without his awareness, knowledge and consent is unacceptable as it violates the principle of respect for privacy as well as journal [sic] professionalism and ethics. Moreover, the coverage of VOA has been abused and distorted for political purposes.”
VOA took down the video three days after receiving Nguyen’s email.
The decision disturbed journalists in VOA’s Vietnamese-language service, who objected to the removal in a meeting with senior editors shortly afterward but received no explanation.
One frustrated employee described it as a betrayal of the organization’s values and mission. “It’s detrimental to our reputation as a news outlet,” said the staff member, who asked not to be named to avoid retribution. “Our slogan is ‘A free press matters.’ This is so ironic.”
The appearance of pressure from a foreign government is a particularly sensitive issue at VOA, which was founded by federal decree in 1942 to counter foreign wartime propaganda. Since then, VOA has evolved into a government-funded but independent news organization, broadcasting and reporting in 48 languages. It typically provides news in countries whose governments restrict the media. It also chronicles instances of press censorship in other countries, including recent crackdowns in Iran, Somalia, Congo and Egypt.
In VOA’s first public response about the matter, a spokeswoman, Bridget Serchak, said Monday that the video was pulled not because of Vietnamese pressure but because the language used by the Vietnamese officials in it was “objectionable,” and in violation of the organization’s standards. She compared the language used to “words considered obscene by the FCC,” although some Vietnamese speakers suggest the language was merely coarse but not broadly offensive.
Radio Free Asia — a sister news organization to VOA — also reported on the delegation’s comments on both its English and Vietnamese-language websites, using the State Department-supplied footage. Its story remains online. A spokesman, Rohit Mahajan, said the organization did not receive any requests to remove it.
On the same day the embassy formally complained about the video, VOA’s news standards editor, Steve Springer, wrote to staff members that he had been unaware of the language issue and would have recommended that VOA “bleep the offensive words” before posting it.
Instead, he recommended getting rid of it altogether. “The story is now one week old,” he wrote. “It’s been seen and read about.”
Although the Vietnamese delegation may have been unaware that cameras were recording their discussion, the State Department’s live stream is part of the public record, meaning news organizations are free to use it. Springer acknowledged as much in his email, saying he wasn’t aware of any directive from the State Department prohibiting its use.
But he added, “And just a reminder that no other government can dictate editorial policy or decisions to VOA.” Springer did not respond to a request for comment.

“Goodrich”, do we really need it?
Los Angeles art gallery owner Andy Goodrich (Michael Keaton, who seems to be saying, "I'm Michael Keaton, don't ask for more") was married to a woman (Andie MacDowell, glimpsed) who worked in the same business. Propelled by a midlife (or sixty?) crisis, he divorced her to marry Naomi (Laura Benanti, glimpsed-encore), not much older than the daughter from his first marriage, Grace (Mila Kunis, who here breaks records for non-chemistry with her on-screen partner).
Now the father of 9-year-old twins (Vivien Lyra Blair, excellent; Jacob Kopera, unassuming), the gentleman is now in trouble on all sides. Not only are things difficult for his gallery, but Wife Number 2 has gone to rehab. She will be absent for 90 days. Andy is shocked. He had never realized that the woman with whom he shared his daily life (a consecrated formula, nothing more) had a drug problem.
Completely helpless (what do you do with kids?!), he turns to Grace. The one he neglected when she was a kid. Who is 27 years older than her half-brother and sister. Who is pregnant with her first child. Who has cut a lot of bridges with her father. But hey! Dad needs a helping hand. And a hand.
And fist, maybe?!
From father and mother to daughter
Written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer (the insipid Home Again ), Goodrich is one of those films that is not only bad, but also infuriating because it wastes… everything: time, talent, money. There were real issues here. Father-daughter relationships, not so often explored in cinema. But also, perhaps most importantly, the repercussions of a broken relationship in the context described above. There was so, so much to say. To write. To show.
But on screen, emptiness. Everything is smooth. Without relief. The situations like the characters. The feelings are lukewarm, defused like so many damp squibs. The actors are not inspired (how could they be?). Finally, sadness ends up winning. Not for the reasons sought.
This feature film probably wouldn't exist if the person behind it weren't part of Hollywood aristocracy. Hallie Meyers-Shyer is the daughter of writer/producer/director Nancy Meyers ( Private Benjamin, The Intern ) and writer/producer/director Charles Shyer ( Private Benjamin, Alfie ). As such, she had small roles in her parents' "baby movies" ( Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap ) before attempting to strike out on her own. Only to crash-land on Home Again. And now, on Goodrich.
A luxury therapy that seems to have been written in the last century (and even then), this dramatic comedy is very much inspired by her life. But given the result, one gets the impression that she has learned nothing from it. Or has not dared to. Even the distributor seems to know this, having set the critical embargo at one minute before the day of the release of this film… which will only be shown on the big screen in its original English version. That, at least, is a clear message.
Goodrich (VOA)
★★ Comedy drama by Hallie Meyers-Shyer. With Michael Keaton, Mila Kunis, Vivien Lyra Blair, Jacob Kopera. United States, 2024, 111 minutes. In theaters from October 18.

What is a Visa on Arrival?
A Visa on Arrival (VoA) is a type of visa that can be obtained at the port of entry, such as an airport or land border crossing, rather than in advance from a consulate or embassy. The immigration officer will verify your documents and payment. Once approved, the visa will be stamped or affixed in your passport, granting you entry into Paraguay.
Validity and Duration of Stay
The Paraguay Visa on Arrival typically allows for a stay of up to 90 days. However, the exact duration may vary based on your nationality and the discretion of the immigration authorities. It is advisable to confirm the allowed duration upon receiving your visa.
Extending Your Stay in Paraguay
If you wish to extend your stay beyond the initial 90 days, you must apply for an extension at the Dirección General de Migraciones (General Directorate of Migration) in Paraguay. Ensure you apply well before your current visa expires to avoid any legal complications.
Tips for a Smooth Visa on Arrival Experience

Australia Plans Limits on International Students
Australia says it will impose limits on the number of international students coming into the country to ease stress on housing and to reduce immigration.
The government in Canberra has said that international education programs, under which foreign students come to study in Australia, were fertile ground for immigration and visa fraud.
In 2023, official figures show that 787,000 international students studied in Australia, exceeding levels seen before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Canberra government plans to cap the number of overseas students to ease stress on rental accommodation and to curb levels of immigration.
Senior government ministers have said caps for education would be part of a broader plan to manage migration, increase the availability of housing and to address skills shortages in the economy.
However, the university sector has insisted the proposals would damage Australia's global reputation as a welcoming, safe and world-class destination for students from other countries.
Education has been one of Australia’s most lucrative exports, but the left-leaning government in Canberra has said the international education sector, which includes many smaller private English language colleges, vocational and training institutions as well as larger universities, has been used as a way for unskilled migrants to stay in Australia.
Michael Wesley, the deputy vice chancellor at the University of Melbourne, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. Tuesday that he hopes the government will target unscrupulous education providers.
“We welcome the crackdown on non-genuine education providers, which provide a backdoor into permanent residency for people who are not genuine students," Wesley said. "We are confident that all of our international students are genuine students and, so, we would hope that the impact of these visa caps will be at the non-genuine end of the education sector.”
Rental accommodation in many of Australia’s larger cities is often expensive and in short supply.
Analysts have said that surging prices are the result of years of underinvestment in affordable housing.
Education institutions would be required to build accommodations for their students if they wanted to exceed limits of the caps. Specific quotas for international students have not yet been made public.
The government in Canberra said it will change Australia’s Education Services for Overseas Students Act to give the education minister the authority to set limits on student enrolments for each education establishment, including specific courses or locations.
The majority of overseas students in Australia come from five countries: China, India, Nepal, the Philippines and Vietnam, according to government data. They contribute billions of dollars to the Australian economy.
