i just finished a playthrough of it, and honestly it left me feeling so incredibly shitty.

i went for evelyn cause i vibed with her in the previous game, and we really gelled, but the last few chapters threw me for a complete loop. the whole "steve" situation. yeah the messages and the winky faces felt really uncomfortable, but i trusted her and decided that we just needed to set some boundaries. but when i confronted her about it she was so deflective, dismissive, and defensive and i wasn't allowed to talk to steve myself, the whole thing just got blown so out of proportion. she wanted to drop the whole thing but nothing had been done and i wanted to set boundaries, and instead i reached a point where the only options were for her to quit talking to steve or break up. i never even wanted her to stop talking to steve, i just wanted to put some boundaries in place and make it known that the vibes of the posts and pictures were making me uncomfortable and to dial it back a bit.

and then because of all that in the next chapter, i got painted as some controlling asshole, and she also threw it back in my face that when mat was going through a breakup i chose to keep my plans with her. so me keeping plans that i'd made beforehand and not bailing on you makes me shitty? and then she started saying i'd manipulated her and controlled her, and wanted to have control over every single person she was friends with. she claimed i hated emily despite the fact that emily completely dropped off the face of the earth and stopped talking to me, and yet i still encouraged her to repair their friendship. then she had the audacity to compare me to her ex. at that point i was like wow, you are such a shitty person. such a shitty person. i wanted to break up with her there and then but it wasn't an option.

the whole moral of my ending was "well now you know that you're kind of a controlling dick, do better i guess" like??? hooooly shit i hated that so much, i'm so triggered rn because never have i felt so misunderstood playing a video game and didn't even have the option to clarify or explain myself.

Emily is Away <3 reminded me about a time when social media was actually... social

Hey, guys! I've been away for quite some time, haven't I? A lot has happened, but let's talk gaming! I just finished Emily is Away <3 after quite some stalling. The second game didn't sit well with me, not cuz' it wasn't good, but mostly because it reminded me of a certain episode of my past that I was not exactly ready to revive in my mind...

Anyway, playing the game brought me a profound sense of nostalgia, transporting me back to a time when social media played a very different role from today. Before they turned into arenas of polarization and endless controversies, that time when they served as platforms for genuine connections with real people. I remember it was common to spend hours chatting with school or college friends at night, planning real-life meetups for the next day for example. I even met my very first girlfriend on social media!

The game also accurately portrays an era when discovering music felt more personal. Instead of being bombarded by an endless stream of new content like we get in our feeds nowadays, the music we discovered often came from friends’ recommendations. A shared video or a band name mentioned in a conversation could deeply influence our musical tastes.

One of the most striking aspects I noticed in the game was how it reconstructs the social dynamics I experienced during Facebook’s peak time. The complexities of friendships, misunderstandings, and minor dramas depicted in the game brought back memories of situations that, at the time, felt absurdly painful to me. Playing it now, with more maturity and a broader understanding of who I am and what I want to do with my life, I'd say it was an almost therapeutic experience ✨. It felt like revisiting past moments with the opportunity to react more consciously and thoughtfully, something that would have been invaluable back then... I believe I lost my one true love because of bad choices of words and misunderstandings that are depicted in the game.

It made me longing for that feeling again, for these connections... Maybe one day we can connect again, as real people.
