the thing about the golden globes is that its ran by the 'hollywood foreign press association' (if that is their real name) and a few years ago they were found out to be corrupt and i kinda think they still are?? im not sure. whatever. anyway their nominations are in fact weird. i think part of it is that old ppl run it (explains ted danson nomination bc that show just dropped how do u explain that) and some actors are heavily campaigning for these nominations (the tennis movie that didnt have a threesome) and then you have random things that are nominated to fill a space (apple tv shows 10 ppl are watching) but have no real chance unless its an old person's fave tv show (only murders in the building). it really is a mixed bag of stuff.

u can be mad about the emilia perez wins over wicked, that’s u know , fine. but bc they cut that musical into two parts, those performances are incomplete imo. and will be up for nominations again next year, which i think is unfair. so. bleh.

Entertainment Weekly is saluting their "Entertainers of the Year" with testimonials for each one. Who are the honourees? Charli XCX honoured by Reneé Rapp; the cast of CHALLENGERS (Zendaya, Josh O'Conner and Mike Faist) by Naomi Osaka, Glen Powell by his ANYTHING BUT YOU costar Sydney Sweeney, newly engaged Selena Gomez by her EMILIA PEREZ costar Edgar Ramirez, Chappell Roan by Sir Elton John, Sabrina Carpenter by her GIRL MEETS WORLD costar Danielle Fishel, Beyoncé by Keke Palmer and Nicholas Galitzine by his RED, WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE costar Taylor Zakhar Perez.

Taylor said they sang "hilariously awful duets" when they sound like this. Please be for real, sir.
We're deep into awards season and, for me, there have already been numerous surprises and disappointments, one of my legitimate surprises is that there has not been more nominations for the song "The Idea of You" from the film of the same name and performed by Nicholas Galitzine and Anne-Marie (there is also a solo version of just Nick). I honestly thought that would be bandied about, at least at the Golden Globes. The song has been nominated for two Hollywood Music In Media Awards, but I think it deserves more. The Oscar nominations are January 17th and it will be a pleasant surprise if it beats out Diane Warren (who unbelievably keeps getting nominated for her trash, uninspired songs) for a spot.

She’s probably doing zoom sessions from Boston too, if she can. It’s the standard. From what I’ve seen online, the movie and her performance have chances at the Golden Globes because they separate drama and comedy and have 6 slots per category, which is one more than normal. Challengers is usually ok the 6th spot. Bigger awards is tricky. We’ve talked here about Challengers not being an awards movie and with so many releases and performances in these last months the final chosen are being announced. I think Challengers run is going to be short lived. I don’t think she’ll be campaigning anymore into the new year.
Yeah actors usually campaign by default unless the movie has not shot at being nominated at all and both challengers and dune have a shot. Z’s only shot is at GG like you said cause of the separate categories, but dune will for sure be a big award player and challengers might get some other technical categories at gg. I don’t expect an exhaustive campaign like the one the actresses of Emilia Perez are doing for example but I do expect more panels

I am an industry voter and have been going to movie screenings for this award season for the past few months.
Austin's performance in Dune 2 was excellent and striking. He has my nomination. Just because Austin wasn't nominated for GG, doesn't mean there won't be other nominations. I found the rest of Dune 2 just ok, however. I would nominate Dune 2 for cinematography and music though. And it's definitely epic enough to be nominated for best picture.
Jodie Komer absolutely deserves a nomination for The Bikeriders (and possibly even the win), but I have not been hearing any buzz about her performance. I am hearing a lot of buzz for Mikey Madison in Anora, but she would not be my win - nomination, yes, but not a win. Award nominations and wins are certainly not always merit-based though, in fact, many times they aren't.
Emilia Perez, however, is the most unique, surprising, impressive, and interesting movie I have seen this award season so far and I have seen most of the contenders already. It surprised me like no other movie has this season. It deserves all those movie-based and music-based nominations it received and it deserves some wins even. It's incredible! As far as acting nominations in Emilia Perez go, Zoe Saldaña deserves the nomination hands down - she really impressed me a lot with her performance, possibly even the win. And the one portraying Emilia Perez deserves a nomination. That would be all for acting nominations I would give Emilia Perez though.
Those are my thoughts in response to a post you made mentioning these movies and performances.
If you want my thoughts about any other movies or performances, ask away, and if I have seen that particular movie, I will speak my piece.
Hey there Industry Voter! 👋 And welcome to my Austin blog. 😊
Thank you so much for your input on this year's contenders and films. I'm a lover of films as well, so this topic is very interesting to me.
I thought Austin did an amazing job in "Dune: Part 2" as well. Thank you for letting us know that just because he wasn't nominated for the Golden Globes, it doesn't mean that he won't possibly get nominated for other awards this season. 😊
I have not seen Emilia Perez! Based on how you're describing it though, it looks like one I will have to definitely check out! 😁
Thanks!

I just don't understand why a horror film was up for nomination under the category of musical/comedy. It's like they knew horror goes overlooked and snubbed and they were like "Demi we're gonna get you that GG no matter what girl we got you". And then they went and gave 4 awards to Emilia Perez. Awards are sooo unserious and people are mad about wins and loses for the wrong reasons.

I continue to be busy in 2025. Greater volunteer responsibilities. Much more time spent on my big kid as we transition (for real for real now) to homeschooling. Finishing up my PhD. Parenting. Meal planning and cooking dinner most days for the rest of my natural life.
But I'm also committing more to being on a timeline that makes sense for me, instead of just defaulting to other people's timelines. Obviously this won't always be possible, but in many cases it's more possible than I've been admitting to myself. I just have to be more flexible in my thinking.
So something I want to do is begin to reclaim time for myself to have fun doing things I enjoy. I've been through a gauntlet of the last five years of having almost no leisure time. I want my leisure time back!
So I'm going to carve out time to do fun things. I'm going to watch movies I enjoy! I'm going to watch TV shows I find interesting! I might even read a book for fun! I would also like to do other enriching things like write more long form prose and practice some sort of tactile art-making something-something that I haven't quite figured out yet. It might be something as simple as coloring in a coloring book or doing a paint by numbers kit. I just need to make some visual art.
I definitely have pockets of time to spend on this, but I need to have ideas queued up so that I don't spend precious free time just deciding what I want to do. So to aid in that I've started making lists of TV shows and movies I'd like to hopefully watch in the coming weeks.
TV shows are more difficult for me to commit to because of the time investment and because honestly they can create binge-like impulses in me, but still there are several shows I'm excited for, most of them returning: American Primeval, Severance, The White Lotus, and Andor.
For movies, I'd like to see Babygirl, Anora, A Real Pain, Maria, Emilia Perez, Nosferatu, and maybe Wicked??? Wicked as a pop culture phenomenon really passed me by. I've never read the book, seen the musical, or listened to its music. But it seems to be universally beloved and will probably be nominated for a bunch of awards. I would also like to see Twisters lol. It's hanging out on Peacock, which is not a streaming service we subscribe to, so I will probably have to accept that I need to rent it.
These TV shows and movies are all just a start, and I might not see all of them, and I'm sure there are many more that will go on my list in the coming months. But the point is that I need to start keeping lists of things I want to do for fun, not just things I need to do for work.
