Louis and I always had a complicated relationship. I loved him in a way I know I'll never love anyone else, not in this life or any other. Now that we’re no longer together, all that remains are these poems I wrote while we were. This one, for example, was inspired by something he said to me after one of our breakups. I couldn’t bear him being himself, so I threw all the guilt onto his heart, as if it were separate from him, something apart, something I could blame.

You can't just expect a spark to catch fire and burn forever, on it's own. 🔥💕 There are a million analogies here - about how you have to give a relationship, like a fire, your attention. So that it doesn't burn out too fast, doesn't wither away, doesn't burn outside it's boundaries, etc. Each one is unique, each individual person has different needs//goals//dreams, so every path is different. But finding someone who wants to build a fire with you? Someone who isn't just chasing sparks, is after more than just a momentary night of heat... who *sees* you, admires your imperfections because they're just a part of what makes you, you, who will give you forehead kisses at the end of a long day, who wants to build and heal and grow and make a conscious decision, day after day, to do those things with *you*, as a partner? I have a small bookshelf of "thoughtful" books next to my easy chair where I sit and sip my coffee first thing in the morning.
