Introducing the Pi Day Cross-Stitch Connections! A series of 14 NYT-Connections-style puzzles themed around cross-stitch and sewing*!

I'll be posting a new puzzle once every day from March 1ˢᵗ to 14ᵗʰ. You can catch them here (and on Cohost!), and if you'd prefer to be emailed a puzzle every morning, you can sign up for that here.

Feel free to share these with friends who aren't on tumblr, too-- I'll be posting the puzzles on all the sites that I'm on, but I know a decent chunk of puzzle fans are busy leading more enlightened lives off of social media. ;)

*Why are the Pi Day puzzles cross-stitch-themed and not math, you ask? Because I felt like doing cross-stitch ones this year. But who knows? Maybe next year's puzzle set will be math-themed 🥧

Victorian-Inspired Embroidered Puzzle Purse, 2023 (ink and cotton and silk embroidery on kona cotton)

The puzzle purse is a form of itogami, the origami of folded purses. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the puzzle purse became a popular form for love notes and Valentines because they could hold little trinkets (rings, miniatures, locks of hair) and did not require an envelope to seal. This one is reimagined in cloth: the embroidery is permanent, but the message can be ironed away and rewritten. A love that lasts because it can be changed and be made new.

Some progress pics of my monstrosity✨

Attempted to mix the houndstooth stitch on front while switching between single and double crochet on the back. The front definitely feels heavier than the back but fuck it lmao. Knowing my luck once I block this thing it's gonna be hanging in all types of weird directions.

Okay okay. I've made some more puzzles of my embroideries now, and I've play tested these and they are fun! I definitely made my first jigsaw puzzle WAY TOO HARD. I learned my lesson.

Pi Day Cross-Stitch Connections, Day 1: it begins!

You play by putting words into groups of four based off of some connection-- could be a physical connection, or a linguistic one, or anything. There's no limit on guesses for these, and once you've found all four groups, you win!

I'm so excited! I ordered a bunch of new puzzles from my favorite puzzle company, Eurographics Puzzles.

Can't wait for for the art piece puzzles because I love those art styles, and I'm excited for the Ukraine Globetrotter one too because I like Ukrainian history/geography. The other 2 are vintage Canadiana ads (which makes sense considering Eurographics is a Canadian company) which I like because they're vintage style amd because my mom's Canadian so it makes me think of her :) (also helps that the last 2 were on sale!)

Dear diary:

Today I had a pretty relaxing day. Yesterday I went out with a friend (we had dinner and watched a midnight parade) untill pretty late at night, which I almost never do. So today I slept in until midday.

It wasn't a really productive day, but I don't strive for constant productivity. I'd rather feel happy and connected than burn out trying to be productive all the time. And today I didn't feel my best, so I just took a day off studying for my exams.

I finished a puzzle I was working on. My father gave it to me as a gift and I think it's lovely. I want to put it in a picture frame and hang it in my room.

I also started an embroidery project. I'm not good at it yet, but I'm slowly learning needlework. Hopefully I will improve my abilities with practice.
