I have Such Strong feelings about the song “Legally Blonde” because up to that point in the musical, I really truly believe that there is not One Moment where Elle truly believes that she’s not capable of her goals. And what those goals are change over the course of the show (most obviously in “Chip on My Shoulder” and “So Much Better” but really, it’s more gradual than just a flip in those songs) but her trust and confidence in herself never really wavers. (Rant continues)

And of course, this confidence isn’t like, infinitely sourced by Elle herself, she has supports that keep her believing in herself. The Greek chorus that serves as an internal reminder of what her most supportive and loyal friends would say, Paulette being a touchstone to a life Elle is more familiar with while still believing in her lawyer capabilities, Emmett. But that confidence is hers. It’s her belief in herself, fueled by their support, that keeps her going. She knows she can.

Until “Legally Blonde”. Because very little can break down trust in oneself like sexual harassment can, and it’s targeted at her Success. It breaks down her belief in herself because it is belittling and targeting the proof that she is capable of the things she knows she is. Callahan point blank draws a link between the part of her that led to the success with the case and his harassment, regardless of the fact that no part of her is responsible for it, she feels that, keenly. So here, finally , Elle doubts herself.

And Emmet knows she’s capable. Of course he does, he knew she was capable probably before anyone in her class besides Elle herself realized it. He knew she’d make a good lawyer before she knew that that was what she wanted. He’s also her Best Friend here, and while he’s willing to tell her some hard truths, it’s well within the realm of possibility that she will dismiss his encouragement because it comes from him. Because she knows that he’ll say she belongs and she can’t trust his judgement about that right now. The only thing he can say that he could hope would make her stay is also pretty much the only thing he cannot say right now. The one thing he can’t say, to a girl who came here chasing a man who didn’t love her back, to a girl employed, harassed, and fired by her teacher.

Bimbo Types, or Neapolitan Bimbo

(This is something I've previously gone over in my My Little Pony post but wanted to reiterate here.)

Bimbo can most easily be divided into three distinct archetypes. The Clown, The Innocent, and The Debutante. These archetypes are not absolute, they come in many variations and their traits can and will overlap.

The Clown, also known as The Free Spirit or The Wildcard, usually shows up as the comedic relief. They can be loud, showy, excessive, and obnoxious. Their sexuality is very self-assured, self-aware, and playful. The Clown's main concern (if any) is having or spreading fun, "fun" in this context being completely up to their individual style and personality. To give a very stereotypical example, a goth clown may have the most fun watching very violent horror movies or playing with spiders. Another clown could have the most fun (Incidentally) causing a ruckus or being mischievous, it's all about perspective, the possibilities are pretty much endless.

Examples of this archetype include but are not limited to: Jeannie (IDOJ), Pinkie Pie (MLP:FIM), Harley Quinn (BTAS), Synclaire James (Living Single), Jayne Mansfield (films and public persona), Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

The Innocent, also known as The Ingenue, is just as the name suggests. Not only helpless but often unaware and wholly out of her depth. Her inexperience and or meekness makes her prone to being taken advantage of. Despite this, she (usually) remains positive, kind, and happy to help. Unlike The Clown, The Innocent's sexuality is typically portrayed as natural, uncomplicated, and unintended.

Examples of this archetype include but are not limited to: Marilyn Monroe (films and public persona), Weena (The Time Machine), Lorelei Lee (in the novel), Elissa Megan Powers (Empowered)

The Debutante, who could also be called The Alpha Bitch, is probably the most popular in the modern era and who you're most likely to come across in real life or on social media. Her sexuality is mainly a means of control. She puts a lot of time, work, and effort into her appearance because beauty is both her business and capital. While she may, at times, enjoy and indulge in carnal pleasure it's far from her main concern. Being the most or unattainably desirable is how she knows she's better than others, how she's able to acquire and maintain control. The Debutante values social standing above all else, to her it's a matter of life or death, she would die without overwhelmingly positive attention.

Examples of this archetype include but are not limited to: Regina George (Mean Girls), Heather Chandler (Heathers), Courtney Shayne (Jawbreaker), Heather (Total Drama Island), Cleopatra Smith (Clone High), Jeannie II (IDOJ), Emma Frost (X-Men), Panty Anarchy (PSG), Ginger (Gilligan's Island), Holly Golightly (Breakfast at Tiffany's), Kim Kardashian, Rarity (MLP:FIM)

These archetypes are combined, remixed, and subverted so often it's hard to find pure examples (I tried my best, and even then this is just reducing them to their base archetypes and do not accurately describe every single one of these characters), but this is a good thing. It leads to nuance and diversity, and many of the most popular bimbo characters are mixed or subversions. Chrissy Snow (Three's Company) is a Clown and an Innocent. Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) arguably includes elements of all three. Romy and Michele's High School Reunion follows two clownish Innocents who realize they were bullied by debutantes. As far as I know, all bimbos exist somewhere along these lines (or perhaps on an axis) but we shouldn't view this as limiting, when you think about it the combinations are really seemingly endless, and I didn't even cover sub-archetypes! Many Debutantes are mean but they don't have to be. Innocents don't have to be completely pliable, you can do (or be) whatever you like, even moving from one archetype to another.

I don't see too much of a pattern here except that I seem interested in establishing the conflict as early as possible. These sentences either lay out the conflict or set up for the rest of the paragraph to lay out the conflict, which is interesting, considering plot is one of my weakest elements.

What's everybody's favorite horror movie?

Small disclaimer before this: I am a wimp and don’t watch a lot of horror movies. Those that I do watch are almost all from the 80s and not very scary compared to modern day horror. As a result these are going to almost exclusively be 80s movies, with a few movies from other decades thrown in. 

Acht really likes Little Shop of Horrors, but they’re never going ot tell anyone. They like the plant theme and they are actually a really big fan of the music. They may or may not have secretly remixed a few of the songs.

Both Four and Gibbous love Gremlins. But what they love more is Gremlins 2. Not because it’s a good movie though. Gremlins 2 is a terrible movie. And that’s why they love it.

Callie and Marie both went through a vampire obsessed phase when they were younger, and some of that remains into today with their favorite horror movie being Lost Boys. (They both had different characters they had crushes on.) As a result, it is also Cassie and Lyra’s favorite.

Every member of Four’s family has a different Twilight Zone episode that is their favorite horror “movie”. For Shina i’ts “I Shot an Arrow into the Air,” for Birch it’s “Time Enough at Last,” and for Elle it’s “It’s a Good Life.” Four’s is “Eye of the Beholder,” and everyone in their family makes fun of them for being cliché.

Elita got really obsessed with the Alien series, having watched the first one and then binging every singe one after that.

Shiver, Megan, and Don all love Jaws. I don’t think I even need to explain that one. 

Kai loves absolutely any Tim Burton film. Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, you name it.

Frye really likes Return to Oz. I don’t think it really counts as a horror movie, but it is definitely messed up and that’s why she likes it. 

Pixel really likes any movie based on a Steven King book, especially The Shining.

Big Man likes Tremors, partially because it reminds him of his own boss fight. 

Sage is a little too obsessed with The Ghost Busters. They will often randomly start singing the theme song for no reason at all.

Captain really likes Predator, so she will binge the Alien movies with Elita.

Um… does Labyrinth count? I counted Return to Oz, so I’m counting Labyrinth too. That’s Eight’s favorite because he really really likes David Bowie. 

If Labrynth and Return to Oz count, then The Never Ending Story counts. That movie was emotionally horrifying. That’s Neo’s favorite. 

Pearl and Marina have agreed that the best horror movie is The Ring, partially because they end up both being terrified and cuddle with each other because of it.

Kaito is terrified of Nighmare on Elm Street, but at the same time he absolutely loves it.

Thank you for the ask!!! The Never Ending Story broke me as a little kid. It counts as a horror movie and I will die on this hill.

Guys I've accidentally made a Legally Blonde (musical) x Life Series + friends AU ft. Martyn's vtuber lore and I need to rant about it

Spoilers for Legally Blonde under the cut

Martyn is shoved into Legally Blonde as Elle Woods through the datastream. Now, I know Martyn is a chronic "commit to the bit" person but for the sake of this AU he is not, and is very annoyed that he has to be Elle, especially when he finds out Joel is Warner?! (He vaguely remembers the plot of Legally Blonde from that one time Scott made him watch it and does not want to spend half his time here pining after Joel of all people.

In the scene just before What You Want, he finally asks the Delta Nus what the fuck is going on and they sorta bend rules and show him the cast. When he finds out Ren is Emmett, he decides that he's gonna follow the plot long enough to get to Harvard, then he'll do whatever it takes to befriend Ren, and hope that he replaces whoever Elle's love interest is supposed to be (forgetting that Emmett is Elle's canon love interest)

The Delta Nus are slightly worried that Elle's going rogue but at least she's not completely ruining the plot? What you want in this AU would be less about following Warner and more "I need to get to Harvard so I can meet ren" (working on lyrics rewrite. using the London version because I like that one better btw)

Martyn spends his time as Elle not trying to get Joel (Warner) back but trying to get Ren (Emmett) to notice him (her?), so Chip on My Shoulder being between him and Ren wouldn't make sense. It'd probably be between him and Joel, if we're doing that, but it doesn't really make sense either. Lizzie (Vivienne) could very easily do it but then Legally Blonde (Remix) being the reveal that Vivienne doesn't actually hate Elle is slightly ruined. So. I'd have to work that out.

Martyn skips the bit with Callahan (Etho) by simply leaving before he has a chance to ask him to stay behind. He does not know what he avoided. Legally Blonde is more "they all think I'm a dumb blonde" than canon because there is no kiss or any of that. (This is purely Martyn not remembering the plot properly and his "magically knowing all the words and choreo" stuff is only for songs.)

Legally Blonde (Remix) is still "Warner might've seen a dumb blonde who's sleeping her way to the top, but all I see is a woman who doesn't have to" but instead of the two of them seeing different scenes, it's that Joel knows Martyn's after Ren desperately and he doesn't know it's genuine love rather than "Ren's important if I'm with him I'm important"

Etho still gets fired (but that's probably for less of "he's a creep" reasons and more of Cleo is Brooke reasons and also i need to think of that)

Scar is Chutney because he's absolutely capable of murder and lying about it, but he also would make a stupid mistake like she did. Also limited life where he was Cleo's son.

BigB will probably be Paulette. I need a Kyle for him tho. Would say maybe Scott or Grian but they're already taken (Nikos/Carlos idk + Margot)

Oh yeah, Scott and Jimmy are Nikos and Carlos. Can't decide which way round though.
