So, my hand slipped after thinking nearly non-stop about the whole Adar and Galadriel dinner scene vs. Barbossa and Elizabeth Swan and I...did another thing.

Pack your bags, Famers! Our annual winter trip is taking place in Ireland! On February 17th, all celebrities will be arriving at the Adare Manor to kick off our trip! Named the #1 resort in Europe in 2023, Adare Manor sits on 840 acres of pristine parkland.
"It’s prestige without pretense and magic without nonsense. Above all, it is the sense of belonging. You are known. You are family. You are home."
UNDER THE CUT, YOU’LL FIND THE LIST OF ROOMMATES!
Unless we got a message from you telling us you wanted to be with a specific person or were not in the ships list - you were included in the generator. If you do not see your FCs name on this list, please message us POLITELY and let us know - sometimes a name gets missed getting put into the generator. We’re human and it happens! At the same time, if your FC is on there twice by any chance then please let us know. Again, mistakes happen. As we accept new applications and people come into the group before AND during the event, this list will be updated. Same will go for if people get unfollowed or ask to leave the group. We posted the pairings in advance so that you may reach out to your roommate and get new interactions going! Even if a mun is on hiatus, be sure to reach out to them so that you can see if you can head-canon some interactions or plan for something when they are off hiatus. All trips are to encourage new interactions and unlikely connections!
PLEASE LIKE THIS NOTICE WHEN YOU HAVE READ IT AND SO THAT YOU CAN KEEP TRACK OF THE LIST UPDATES!

I have been inspired by @iamstartraveller776 's unhinged fiction "Attack of the Vicious Plot Bunnies" to imagine a "Pride and Prejudice" version of Adar and Galadriel! Should Adar be Elizabeth Bennet or Mr. Darcy? I think he must be Elizabeth, with a beloved family of Uruks who are too vulgar. And Galadriel is Mr. Darcy, who hates Uruks with a blind passion. Elizabeth overhears Darcy say at the ball that their kind (Uruks) was a mistake, and they should all die. Mr. Darcy was once drawn to Halbrand, who seemed like a nice, trustworthy guy until he tried to elope with an underage relative. And now Halbrand is charming Elizabeth and telling her vile (untrue) things about Mr. Darcy. Darcy's supernice best friend that everyone wants to marry is Elrond, of course, and Gil-Galad is Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

The Guardians: Part 11 - The Roman Empire
Tumblr media
Content warning for this episode: self-immolation. It's possible that having blogged my way through nine episodes of this show already I'm a bit slow coming to a key fact about its authorship. On the other hand I'm quite chuffed that I noticed it: I was thinking that the approach of the episodes was very uneven and was reflecting that it struck me much more as if it was an anthology TV series than a single story with a single author. Of course a glance at the writers on IMDb showed that no fewer than six writers wrote various episodes of this show (one of them wrote seven and the others one or two each). This fact would adequately explain how the show is a bit erratic and it frequently feels as if it's coming at the plot from a completely different viewpoint. This episode is a case in point. You may say that it would be reasonable to examine the fictional state from a different viewpoint in each episode, but I think you would expect some connection. This one suddenly produces a whole religion out of nowhwere which has not been mentioned so far. Probably at the time the group would have been referred to as a cult, but is essentially used as a way to illustrate how the state suppresses or otherwise makes life difficult for any opposition groups. There is also a long list given of the effects of this oppression on the affected groups, culminating shockingly in the suicide of an asylum seeker (played by Elizabeth Adare) by self-immolation. This brings a strikingly modern issue to the forefront of this show. The reference to the Roman Empire is about a comparison which is drawn between the unelected Prime Minister and a Roman emperor, that it is difficult to arrange a succession and they just tend to carry on forever or give it to their son. Of course in the UK this year we have seen that in reality an unelected Prime Minister sooner or later throws a mammoth sulk, calls an election purely to spite the rest of the party and is elected out to his party's great surprise. I am certain that nobody in 1971 would have guessed that some of the events of this show would actually be playing out in reality now. A final thread of the plot political plot is that of labour relations, and conflicting views about how they should work. I have quite a major criticism, although honestly it's not one I'm sure I've understood correctly. It feels to me as if the sequence of events with Tom and Claire Weston has perhaps been slightly moved back in this episode because he is back in the 'centre'. I may have missed him being taken back into the hospital but either way my criticism is that this series is very difficult to follow. Another criticism I have is that we see a scene where themembers of the cult are giving each other gifts to illustrate how all natural things are good. A lady is given a turd and encouraged to reflect that all natural things are good. That, on top of the self-immolation feels as if this episode is trying to shock for the sake of shocking. There's also a lot of other things going on (the cabinet secretary has another heart attack) so it feels very focusless). An episode of this show which is difficult to follow, unfortunately, but we're on the home strait now. The Year So Far Book Ask
tagged by @pretenderoftheeast Thanks!
1. Best book you have read in 2021 so far?
I’m always nervous making definitive statements about books I haven’t finished, but at 60% of the way through The Magician by Colm Tóibín, it’s going to have to really fuck up the ending not to be the best so far, and likely all year. (This book comes out in September. As a Librarian, I have access to NetGalley, and sometimes I get hooked up with some pretty great ARCs.)
2. Best sequel you have read in 2021 so far?
Priest of Gallows. Love this Peter McLean series.
3. A new release you want to check out?
Madhouse at the End of the Earth: The Belgica's Journey into the Dark Antarctic Night by Julian Sancton came out in May, and I really need to get it penciled in.
4. Most anticipated book release of the second half of the year?
Probably Joe Abercrombie’s The Wisdom of Crowds, but I’m feeling overwhelming dread about it, tbh. I’m so worried I won’t like it.
5. Biggest disappointment?
My relisten of Brian Staveley’s Unhewn Throne trilogy. The first book was great and the second was fine, but then I got to the third and I remembered just how much I hate Adare, and that Valyn really started to grate toward the end of the series. I’ll probably still check out The Empire’s Ruin when it comes out later this month, but with less enthusiasm.
6. Biggest surprise?
I’ve been meaning to read John Dos Passos for years but I didn’t expect just how much I would enjoy Manhattan Transfer.
7. Favourite new author (either new to you or debut)?
Colm Tóibín. But I’ve also been in a mood to either reread books or at least stick with the same authors. I haven’t been adventurous in the first half, but I feel that about to shift for the rest of the year.
8. Favourite new fictional crush?
It’s not new, but I reread The Trouble with Peace, and all I want in this world is more Jappo.
9. Newest favourite character?
Started KJ Charles’s Will Darling series this year, and both Will and Kim are delightful.
10. A book that made you cry?
In addition to rereading the Unhewn Throne trilogy, I also finally finished the prequel book, Skullsworn, and I definitely cried at the end of that. (And the new book’s tie to this one is actually what still has me somewhat excited about it.)
11. A book that made you happy?
Rereading Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon was so much fun. Robert Audley is such a hilarious slacker.
12. Most beautiful book you have bought or received this year?
Actually, it’s just a cheap paperback, but I really dig the simple cover of my Lady Audley’s Secret.
Tumblr media
13. What book do you need to read by the end of the year?
Other than The Wisdom of Crowds, there’s also a new Rachel Reid hockey smut novel, Role Model, coming out, and then all the stuff I need to read for Women in Translation month. And I’m reading Wretchedness by Andrzej Tichý with @lizlensky  soon. Oh, and of course all the books for my book clubs at work. 😊
Thanks so much for the ask!!!
Tagging: of course Liz. ;) And also... @seeker-in-the-shade @revedebeatrice @thinkofaugust @xn3city  And literally anyone else. I ALWAYS want to know what people are reading!

I thought "Indian" Stereotype in TV Science Fiction: First Nations' Voices Speak Out by Sierra S Adare was gonna be like The Dark Fantastic: Race and the Imagination from Harry Potter to the Hunger Games by Ebony Elizabeth Thomas where it would just be the author's individual observations on overall media trends and the impact that has, but this is a whole ass scientific study

You could do this road trip by car but you may miss enjoying the scenic beauty and important historic places while behind the wheel, not know what you are seeing without the knowledge of a professional Irish tour guide, and loads of fun with family or making new friends one has on escorted Ireland tours.
Ireland group tour members and individuals can expect to be awestruck by the sheer beauty and incredible history of this beautiful country on this unbelievable road trip journey featuring the best of an Irish Heritage and Culture tour, which will take you to the most celebrated Irish attractions. You will even have the opportunity to be transported back in time to "old world Ireland", a place where the locals still sing century old songs and continue to speak Gaelic to this very day. "That one single statement makes many a heart long for the sounds and songs of dear Ireland".
Escorted Ireland Tours vs. Ireland Road Trip by Car
Anyone including families and Ireland Tour Groups can sit back, relax, and enjoy the Emerald Isle in comfort if they choose an escorted or guided Ireland tour as they travel by luxury touring coaches with an expert driver and guide who will meet them upon arrival at Dublin Airport. You could also do this road trip by car but then you would miss half the enjoyment of the trip because you are behind the wheel driving on the "wrong side of the road" instead of enjoying your trip. In addition, you would miss all the unique knowledge your local guide has to offer on an escorted Ireland tour. Either way, there are more advantages traveling on escorted Ireland tours versus by car.
The inclusions listed in this day-by-day adventure are based on what one would encounter as part of a group tour. You could mold this tour into whatever you like, stop wherever or however long you want if doing this road trip by car, an advantage. However, having done both in the past the escorted Ireland group tour allows you to sit back, enjoy the trip, with no worries about overnights or driving.
Seeing the Sights in Dublin
Day one begins with your arrival in Dublin, an experienced driver and tour guide will meet you unless you are doing this on you own and then you will need to get a rental car at the Dublin airport. Throughout the rest of this road trip, we will assume you opted for an escorted Ireland group tour which will start with an afternoon city tour of the fair city of Dublin.
Among the many sights to see are St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trinity College and the ancient Book of Kells, a masterpiece of Calligraphy art featuring interlacing Celtic knots, patterns, human figures, mythical creatures, animals and text in vibrant colors and illuminated for your viewing pleasure. The Book of Kells is considered one of Ireland's most important national treasures. No one knows exactly how long it took the Celtic Monks some 1200 years ago to create this masterpiece featuring the four Gospels of the New Testament in Latin depending on what you read it was created between the 6th and 9th century so some three years in the creation and well worth the visit.
See Christchurch Cathedral and the Shrine of St. Valentine, after whom the February 14th holiday is named. See the Georgian Squares featuring Palladian Architecture used during the reign of the four King George's era. Local legend says that if the Angel on the pinnacle of the sanctuary roof ever falls, the world will end.
The afternoon will be spent in Cobh, renamed Queenstown in 1849, a transatlantic port and the departure point for 2.5 million Irish people who embarked on coffin ships, steam ships and ocean liners to immigrate to America between 1848 and 1950. Less fortunately, Cobh was also the embarkation point for men, women and children deported to the penal colonies On 11th April 1912 Cobh was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic. Of the 123 passengers boarded in Cobh, only 44 survived. Return to Cork for an overnight stay at the Imperial Hotel.
