Weapon K handles the majority of combat situations that Squad B encounters, though he is indiscreet and tends to leave a mess behind. [COMMANDER'S NOTE: Just something not right about this boy.] Operative 06: "Shino Entity" It has yet to be determined whether Shino Entity is, in fact, a budding psychic who was consumed by insects and gained control of them, or merely a strange collective of psychic insects under a shared delusion of once having been human. Investigation is ongoing, though attempts to isolate and inspect individual insects of the hive mind have been counter-productive, as Shino Entity has invariably become aware of the isolation and dissection of members of his hive mind.  Accordingly, invasive experiments have for the  moment been suspended to ensure his ongoing collaboration.  His skill set is incredibly valuable and unique, however, enabling mass recon on a almost simultaneous response, and while not suited to combat, is essentially indestructible. [COMMANDER'S NOTE: I don't really care where he came from.  As long as he keeps up his work, he can call himself Shino or Lord Nelson for all I care.] LEADERSHIP TEAM Commader Kakashi: Field Commander.  Last living member of the original Section 11 team, Commander Kakshi has been declared not fit for combat due to the injury suffered to his eye during the Apocalypse Incident.  He now serves Section 11 in a supervisory tactical role, planning out missions to accomplish goals as set by the rest of the leadership.  Though not strictly required, Commander Kakashi makes a habit of deploying with the Section 11 Operatives whenever possible, a practice which Section Chief Danzou has cited him for numerous times. [COMMANDER'S NOTE: Let the old man complain, I'm not sending kids out there without backup.] Dr. Tsunade: Head of Mutagenic Studies.  Dr. Tsunade left a promising career at Tokyo University to lead the medical and study wing of Section 11.  She is in charge of monitoring the operative's physical state and the nature of their mutations, as well as any new mutations that arise.  Dr. Tsunade's connection to the program is more than professional, as her grandfather was closely involved in its creation, a fact which may have weighed into her decision to join.  Dr. Tsunade also considers herself in charge of the operative's well-being, a matter which has also led her to clash with Section Chief Danzou. [COMMANDER'S NOTE: The lady should be in charge from everything I've seen.  Though what she did to the meeting table makes me wonder if her studies have been leading to more practical applications of mutagens, recently.] Dr. Inoichi: Section Chief Danzou's successful recruitment of the famous "Ino-Shika-Cho" team may be considered one of the great accomplishments of his administration. Dr. Inoichi joined the program out of desperation to find some solution to his daughter's newly awakened powers, and his two friends followed him.  A neurology specialist, Dr. Inoichi has done groundbreaking work regarding metahuman psychics and extra-natural brain structure.  He devised the device which currently helps his daughter to keep her powers in check, which is currently under development for possible use against enemy psychics. [COMMANDER'S NOTE: Why does the record note this as an accomplishment of Danzou's? Inoichi joined us because of his daughter's accident, Danzou had nothing to do with it.] Dr. Shikaku: Shikaku, a renowned specialist in artificial intelligence and computer learning simulations, joined the program alongside his friend. Meanwhile into the doctor's office, the other novice hunter reported that you'll be arriving very shortly to take a physics test, then an unknown medical reploid responded with a smile.

"Good~. Bring her into my office~." He said, spoken of a deep seductive tone. "Time to give my lovely patient a special treatment in store for her~... He he he he~...." Underneath his snow white operation coat, he refuses to wear his full red armor that he stripped out of but to have the briefs remain on along with the boots and helmet.

Making your way through a long hallway and appearing in an early time for the "treatment" to cure your body from illness that you don't have right now, you began to take a seat while waiting patiently for anyone to see you. Looking around this facility to keep you fully occupied would lower the boredom level to none even to ponder of your favorite spots in the park staring towards the clouds flowing by, along with spending time with your family, friends, including fun activities to do in a spare time. Until a sudden door has opened automatically catching your attention to peer who it is that exits the other room, revealing the similar yet unknown stranger from before who mistakenly sent an invitation to your bottom pocket when you return home. Wore a long white lab coat representing a medical expert that studies the anatomy along with holding a clipboard in his hand, geared with a pair of glasses. Standing in front of the desk with his back turned while awaiting for your attendance, he greeted you with a smile.

"Ah. Good evening, young lady. I've been excepting you." A gentle voice aims forwardly to you during his existence to check on you. "Thank you for coming in with a short notice to have an appointment. How are you feeling today? Are you physically active?" You replied at his greetings by a polite nod. Even though you're not an a crucial condition, he still needs to examine your well being clearly to make sure of it. "That's good. I see you have obtain the message that my assistant gave you at your house, correct?" Once again, you said yes. Showing the paper to him about getting a different medicine. Deep inside his mind, he's fully prepared to offer you something even more than a shot or anything else. The grin on his face made its return, meaning that you are in his trap for a romantic event to happen very so that you're fairly unaware of.

"Good. Very good. I'm glad to hear that you're perfectly well." Again he smiled towards your answer. "Now then, let's begin the study for your examination about yourself along of your health. Would you prefer the normal blood test? Or...." Slowly opening the long doctor's robe to reveal his stunning gorgeous abs by a flash, the visible blush shown itself into your face due to the witnessing dream before you. "Maybe I should give you a very sexual procedure instead~?" Without seeing this coming, you should've realized that something was completely off about the whole "appointment meeting with the doctor" phase, has been a scam the entire time. Even to notice of his voice more carefully, it was rearranged from original to sexually deep that gave women quite thrilling shivers. Hearing from the word "sexual" is not what a real doctor would say or has been printed into the dictionary, but surprisingly this person said it informally who imitates as one is obviously known as....

"Hey there, kitten~ Fancy having you here~ Ya miss me~?" Removing the glasses from his face steadingly to show a familiar expression, even a sexy voice shooting at you through the brain to assist your memory by remembering slowly during your later visit for a Valentine privacy, the "medical reploid" forms himself as none other than Zero. Upperclassmen of the maverick busting group that fights to remain balance for the city as well as the 0th unit captain. You silently gasped by a flush, covering up your full expression due to his irresistible "operation procedure" that he plotted only for you. Approaching seductively as he goes to you with both arms hidden behind his head licking his flawless lips in a rotating fashion, the heart shaded swordsman grasps under your chin. Winking a kiss upon your head proudly to see you again for a visit.

"Mmmm~ Glad to see your lovely mug again, my sweet little patient~ How's it going~? Surprised~? You should be, because I'm gonna cure your sickness from those dull worries spinning all over your cute little mind with a special antidote to cheer you up~" He said, circling around you romantically. Very much closer than ever, his body had almost planted onto you or face, releasing the inner urges trapped within your soul. Having your soft cheeks painted of the color pink because of the medical stud flexing passionately in front of you has surrender to him very quickly. However, the strongest sense of your will accompanies you to remain calm by doing as your hot host requires you to do. Surrender yourself within his grasps is the only option acceptable to make his evening a lot easier when it comes to mute types like you.

"So~ What's shakin, dollface~? Happy to see me~? Bet you are~" The handsome android said with an attractive spell waiting for anyone such as yourself to become its victim. "Guess you're wondering why the note I send ya wasn't a real one, right~?  Well, that's correct~ Cause it was me all along~" The flustered gasped must've escaped from your mouth after his confessions. Slightly bamboozled of his plans, but have understood it very positively with an apologetic flush. With me~ Holding you in my muscled palms~ In my medical lair~ Together~" Hands placed upon your shoulders quite so calmly, one knee landed onto yours caused your entire anatomy to burst into the shady burn of redness unlike any kind of sunlight in the summer, but a nervous highlight covers your body wholeheartedly. A replied nod answers his question has lend a satisfied smirk towards him.

"Mmmm~ That's my patient~ Just the way I like it in a human girl~"Purred the charming expert, sitting onto your lap for a comfortable view of you, existence, the rest. Such as the preparation pouring downwards on both by his unavoidable sexiness clearing a severe fever, which you hardly gain. "Hope you're ready to have your pleasurable surgery, cause I'm change your poor life like you did mine~" You flustered yet another with a blush and very psyched at both.

"Are you excited, little lady~? From the looks of your inclinations, I'd say you are prepared for a love making check up given by yours truly~" He questions you with a finger traveling around your body, sided by his lips advancing towards the ear. Inside your thoughts, multiple visions about this miraculous hunk in glimmering crimson showing off his god like steel dancing erotically without an end to go by. Anthem’s summer reading list – everything you need to know about the latest magazines on the block

This year saw drastic shifts in New Zealand’s ever-changing media landscape. As we endured lockdowns, we also faced months of uncertainty about the future of our most loved magazines, many of which have entertained and educated us for decades. With previously owned Bauer Media titles back on the shelves, as well as brand new titles, we can breathe a sigh of relief this crucial touchpoint of our culture and identity has new life.

To keep up to date with who’s who and what’s changed in the media landscape at the end of this tumultuous year, we’ve put together our summer reading list with our top reading recommendations for the festive season.

VIVA

VIVA magazine celebrates New Zealand’s ‘good things in life’, from fashion and beauty to food, design and travel. There was something special about leafing through Issue 01 shortly after the magazine took a leap from a weekly New Zealand Herald supplement to a full-glossy quarterly magazine in its own right. The first quarterly instalment, explains editor Amanda Linnell, is about Celebrating Aotearoa Now by reflecting on how 2020 has been a year that has “pushed us all to explore where we’ve come from, and discuss where we want to go”. As such, the content and characters that feature give the magazine a fiercely inclusive feel, with many wahine toa gracing the pages with their individual stories of creativity, ancestry and identity. A must read is Emma Espiner’s feature, an essay titled ‘Looking backwards to the future’, in which she reflects on how her Radio New Zealand journalist husband Guyon Espier was an unlikely modern champion bringing the te reo language to mainstream airwaves, despite initial reluctance from old fashioned or change-fearing listeners. VIVA is the perfect magazine for life-style enthusiasts, foodies and fashion lovers with a big skew towards women through the content’s deliberate inclusivity drive. The publication offers a voice for those who are champions for diversity and inclusion with reputable leaders who have compelling stories to tell - including food, beverage, fashion and FMCG clients.

Ensemble

Ensemble is an online magazine providing fashion and lifestyle news with a strong insider’s perspective. This insight comes directly from its industry heavyweights’ founders, former FQ Editor Zoe Walker Ahwa and industry face, Rebecca Wadey (ex-Kate Sylvester, Jo Malone London and MAC). Their byline is ‘for both intelligence and whimsy’ – a perfect escape in a Covid-landscape. Ensemble’s four content pillars are culture, fashion, beauty and people – writing content for a high-socioeconomic audience who are concerned with conscious consumption, the business of fashion, style trends and industry related issues. The magazine’s investigative journalism is Melanie Reid-esque in terms of quality and often provided anonymously from scrupulous sources. It balances the content nicely with light reads and trend reports.  

Woman

Woman is an online and print magazine targeted at women 30 plus with articles on the latest in celebrity news, entertainment, local events and Kiwi women who stand out in their field of expertise. Published by Sido Kitchin’s School Road publishing, the magazine has a little bit of everything - from fashion, gardening, cooking, market appeal, beauty, art, home, wellbeing and book reviews. The features highlight inspiring stories of women who have achieved big things, including political editors Jessica Mutch McKay, Jane Patterson and Tova O’Brien who dive into their experience on the campaign trail during this year’s election.

Haven

Haven is New Zealand’s newest home and living magazine aimed at owners and renovating enthusiasts. The monthly magazine provides design advice, decorating inspiration and gardening tips, as well as showcasing local home, homemakers, food ideas and homeware trends. Haven’s content pillars are:

-          Edit – homeware trends and style influencers

-          Live – Kiwi homes that cross styles, locations and living situations

-          Transform – style ideas and advice for room makeovers

-          Grow – green spaces

-          Eat – recipes from Nici Wickes

The magazine targets everyday New Zealanders, rather than only featuring high end, lifestyle properties. It also profiles the interesting Kiwis who occupy the homes too, rather than just being homes focused.

SCOUT

Scout is a monthly, glossy magazine that pays homage to Aotearoa, New Zealand and the beauty we have on offer for Kiwis and, when our borders open, international visitors. We enjoyed learning about places through the eyes of a range of contributing writers, from Stan Walker on his home city  Tauranga, and Peta Mathias on Tairua. We also enjoyed reading about places we have been meaning to visit but never have, such as Tiritiri Matangi in Hauraki Gulf. The images are beautiful, and very authentic and true to life, rather than a polished tourism façade. The target market would be the domestic tourist or Kiwis wishing to explore their backyard. It appears to be a magazine for a wide demographic, that is not too high brow or elite, and accessible and relevant for many.

Thrive

Thrive, another magazine brought-to-market by School Road Publishing, is focused on all things health and wellbeing. Editor Wendyl Nissen has 20 years’ experience writing about wellness and vouched in the first edition that all content included in this magazine is “authentic and science based.” Each issue includes 3-4 long-form articles, ranging from day-in-the-life pieces that profile well-known Kiwis, to how to maintain DIY health and wellbeing practices from home. It’s relevant to anyone wanting to pay more attention to mindful living and comes full of tangible suggestions you can implement in your day-to-day life.

North & South

This long form current affairs magazine is back. The monthly is targeted at informed Kiwis aged 35–64 who are “endlessly curious about the country they call home.” Using a blend of investigative journalism, essays, profiles and reviews, the magazine explores everything that is complex and fascinating about New Zealand. The first issue since the magazine came back into publication under its new independent ownership asks, “are we better off on our own” in this ambiguous Covid era? A must-read is Damian Cristie’s feature “Closed” that explores everything that is at stake as we considering when, and how, we can re-open our borders. Donna Chisholm also writes a fascinating piece about how scientists at the Centre for Brain Research are studying tiny pieces of brain tissue to find treatments for Alzheimer’s, autism, epilepsy and other neurological conditions.

Metro

Metro has relaunched under new independent local ownership. The revamp sees it become a quarterly (formerly bi-monthly) magazine, with bigger issues featuring the best of New Zealand. Online, Metro plans to develop several digital platforms to give Aucklanders insider knowledge of their city. It’s great to see proper long form features back. The features were all well written and highly relevant to the narrative of the last few months and beautifully designed. It’s still the best food section in any New Zealand publication. We also love that Alex Casey is a columnist, it’s a perfect fit for Metro. There is so much content in here, it’s the type of magazine that will live well on your coffee table to keep coming back to.

Fashion Quarterly

FQ sees a welcome return for New Zealand’s style conscious. The magazine is aimed at women aged between 20-49 with content including shopping guides, new trends and style inspiration. The features dive into local breakthrough designers, sustainable fashion, conscious consumption, at-home skincare and self-improvement. The December issue arrives months after its publication came to an abrupt halt in March, with a clear re-focus on inclusivity and commenting on social and environmental issues readers care most about. Jacinta Fitzgerald’s essay “Where to from here?” is an interesting exploration of fashion’s most unforeseeable year and the future for sustainability in an industry that has an unsustainable track record.  

Capsule

They say times of adversity provide opportunity, and Capsule is a prime example of this in action. Following the closure of Bauer Media NZ in April, Kelly Bertrand, former Deputy Editor of New Zealand Woman's Weekly, joined forces with a group of other former magazine editors to launch Capsule, an online curated collection of smart stories and relatable rants. Capsule is aimed at savvy, strong, intelligent and stylish Kiwi women who want to know what’s happening, what’s trending, what’s new, and what’s worth talking about. Capsule aims to deliver clever content that resonates and connects deeply with Kiwi women and helps them feel successful, informed and entertained. The range and volume of content that Capsule covers means there’s something for everyone and every mood – you could be reading a Samsung vacuum cleaner review one moment, then learning about creating workplace opportunities for young Kiwis living with disabilities the next. Having just signed on a content partnership with Stuff, we can expect to see a lot more of Capsule in the near future – and we can’t wait.

Woman’s Day NZ and The New Zealand Woman’s Weekly

After a hiatus following Bauer Media’s collapse, Woman’s Day and NZ Woman’s Weekly are back in full force to serve celebrity gossip and royal family scandal. The weekly print publications are primarily aimed at women aged 35 to 60 and in addition to reporting on the latest Hollywood red carpet faux pas, they deliver gripping real-life reads, affordable fashion, easy nutritious meals, quick beauty tips, entertaining puzzles and more. Overall, these publications provide entertainment and escapism – perfect beach reading material.
