I have a conspiracy theory involving Taylor, Olivia and Sabrina.

Does anyone find it weird how suddenly Taylor took Sabrina Carpenter under her wing? Especially after the supposed feud between Olivia Rodrigo? She's everywhere with Taylor. Award shows, opening the Eras Tour, public outings and even at the football games. It's especially weird for a 30+ lady hanging with someone in their early 20's. Strangely, Taylor even spotlighted Sabrina's cover of WNEGBT, but not Guts. 🤔

Olivia hit it big at such a young age. Disney star, Swiftie and broke out during the Pandemic era and her first album was a hit. Taylor seemingly gave Olivia her blessing, Olivia and Conan spotlighted Fearless TV, but Taylor wouldn't do the same for their albums,? Weird since Taylor claimed them as her kids. and then the copyright thing happened. Olivia stopped talking about Taylor and vice versa.

Realistically this is what's going on

I think Olivia was told to stop associating so much with Taylor by her team so that she could have her own stand-alone career rather than be seen as a baby Taylor Swift, ensuring the longevity of her career. Olivia puts out great catchy tunes and doesn't need Taylor to promote her.

I actually think Olivia didn’t believe Taylor would take the 50% on Deja Vu, since Taylor herself has been inspired by other artists and never once gave them credit (let alone 50%). She was most likely very disappointed and decided to take a step back from that “relationship” they once had and make her own career.

Taylor pulled her out of relative obscurity, and without Taylor there promoting her, she can't stand alone the way Olivia does, and maybe Sabrina is fine her fame being from her associations with Taylor in a way that Olivia isn't.

My theory is basically this.

Taking Sabrina under her wing would put a stop to the envious allegations, and makes Taylor look good for being so helpful to a rising artist.

Suddenly Taylor associates herself with someone Olivia has alleged heat with. Sabrina has good music, but doesn't get the attraction Olivia got, suddenly Taylor picks her out of nowhere and she's seemingly getting popular and it just raises some questions.

Taylor doesn't want to be seen as a 30+ woman competing unfairly against a rising 20 year old or as the crazy old lady trying to sabotage a young woman's career. So the next best thing. She can build up this young talented woman who she feels doesn't get the attention she deserves, be seen as this great mentor while at the same time conspiring to use Sabrina against Olivia.

So psychological/guerrilla warfare.

She’s going to be pushing Sabrina really hard to compete with Olivia in the mainstream she’s been moving Sabrina’s seats at award shows for a year now to sit next to her when Sabrina is usually seated rows back at the beginning of the program she’s having Sabrina open for her on tour and at all her parties including the one she threw at electric lady on Olivia’s album release night now Sabrina has been working in the studio with Jack Antonoff and I have no doubt Taylor will give the album a big shout out when Sabrina’s 6th album comes out she’s trying to send a message imo all of these pr opportunities for Sabrina even though she’s like 24 and they’re all in their like mid 30s. There’s a reason why Olivia immediately left the VMAs after her performance and didn’t stick around to sit next to them on the front row.

Divine Envy: Session 1, Near-light Trouble

Rivka su'Salamaad, call sign Castigo, is a priestest and a warrior. She is on the hunt for her former god, an escaped cascading NHP that managed the colony ship that gave birth to her people. Aster Heyde, call sign Seraphim, is an omninet celebrity. He has grown bored of releasing albums, movies, and commercials. Testing out combat in mechanized chassis, he discovers his bloodlust, and desire for adventure. Unaware of each other, they find themselves enroute to planet Auranth, a garden world whose colony ship failed to grow the human embryos onboard. Traveling at near-light speeds aboard the ship BCA Memory, these two are awoken from cryostasis early and alone.

Pulled from the second deepest sleep humans are capable of, the two of them make eye contact, realizing that they are the only ones awoken in the hallway of occupied cryostasis pods. The are quickly greeted by a small host of robotic concierge units who assist them with post stasis warmth, clothes, and getting their original supplies. After some the two of them make some small talk and fill their bellies, the the concierge unit Ca71 aka "Catie" explains why they are awake.

The ship has sustained some damage, and the onboard NHP would like to enlist their help. In their hardsuites, they are led to the cryo deck bulkhead Catie. The bulkhead malfunctions, knocking both pilots to the ground and drags Catie through the door as it explosively depressurizes.

Rivka rushes to assist Catie who is on her side. Perhaps not a full god, like an NHP, Rivka does recognize the automaton as holy. It stands, barely damaged, and its face lights up, likely speaking, but makes no sound in the vaccum.

Aster exits after and is caught in awe of the site next to them. Where there should be a massive hallway leading down the rest of the ship is a giant starscape. Shorn metal, exposed wires, a floating body. The milkyway rotating in their view, clearly visible in beautiful and horrible clarity. Amid the field of stars, is a black spot; the rear half of the ship.

They are led to the BCA Memory's NHP, Optix, who explained that an explosion blew the ship in half, killing hundreds of sleeping passengers and crew. An enemy intelligence is preventing Optix from taking control of that half of the ship, and it is rotating in preparation for a burn. It is planning on changing course, leaving the front half at near-light on a crash course with Auranth.

The two of them waist no time. They board their Everest frames and begin the long EVA to the severed rear half of the ship. Once they land, they immediately exchange fire with a welcome party consisting of remote piloted automatons hardware repurposed for war.

Dismantling them was easy work for the two lancers, and they only took minimal damage. They proceeded to track down part of the problem: an NHP deployed by an unknown faction on the ship prior to launch. It defended itself with more automatons, more than the welcome party.

The battle was rough. The increased physical forces and the electrical warfare being waged by the enemy NHP pushed the pair of pilots and their mechs to new heights. It ended with the pilots cracking the NHP’s casket, and Optix was able to tear the the enemy NHP apart in a mental battle more excruciating than than a human body is capable of feeling.

Finally in control of both halves of the ship, Optix was able to access the ships logs and sensors, as well as cross sections of the NHPs multi dimensional memories. The enemy NHP was not acting on its own. It was taking order from a group of enemy lancers. They were closing on Castigo’s and Seraphim’s position.

The two of them only had time to reach defensive positions before they were set upon. Callsign: Gale, real name unknown, a sword wielding pilot capable of reflecting attacks with a swipe of his blade. Callsign: Storm, real name unknown, a gunslinger who pins down opponents while landing nearly impossible crack shots.

Seraphim was immediately pinned down by Storm. Castigo launched to his aid and bombarded Gales mech with an oppressive electronic attack, tricking it to move within range of Seraphim’s blades. The flurry of Gales single lightning fast sword and Seraphim’s energized cleavers would last till the end of the battle.

Castigo and Storm traded blows. Nexus swarms and electronic attacks from Castigo, and a hail of bullets from Storm. Seraphim was free of Storms suppressing fire and slowly gained the upper hand over Gale, accelerated when Castigo had a chance to lock Gales leg servos in place.

Seraphim left a still humming charged cleaver deep into Gale’s mech. With pinpoint accuracy, it disabled the mechs reactor, without pushing it into meltdown and without bisecting the still living pilot within.

Castigo wasted no time in tricking Storms monitors. Thinking Gale had achieved victory, Storm moved towards his ally. He realized far too late that he had walked his mech into Seraphim’s deadly range, and was quickly dismantled.

The two boarders were planning on flying the rear half to safety, but their motives for Auranth’s destruction were still unclear. Both enemy lancers were restrained and put into cryostasis.

Leaving the ship in Optix’s trusty care, the two lancers went back into cryo sleep.

Over the next month, Optix was able to piece both halves of the ship using hundreds of construction drones, enough to safely decelerate, but not enough to be fully operational. Deceleration took another few months, and the two lancers finally arrived over the blue green marble: planet Auranth.

The latest release from STAHV, Electric Youth, is a full album cover of Electric by The Cult. According to the revered doom metal site, The Obelisk, "songs range from acid desert folk “Aphrodisiac Jacket” to bedroom indie pop on “Love Removal Machine” to the fuzz ‘n’ crash treatment given to “Electric Ocean” and “Memphis Hip Shake.” Since 2017, Seattle-based experimental artist STAHV is a shape-shifting one-person act that KEXP describes as combining "elements of heavy psych-rock, doom metal, post-rock, noise-rock, and more."

Live, STAHV has supported The Well, The Obsessed, Scott Kelly of Neurosis, Yamantaka// Sonic Titan, Mirrors for Psychic Warfare, Indian, Mondo Generator, and Yawning Man. The band has also appeared on curated festivals like Northwest Terror Fest, Rat City Recon, and Freakout Fest.

Top 15 Music Artists!

I won’t be doing a separate song one, instead I’ll just recommend a few for each artist (at most 3). Other than that, there aren’t any rules to this, no order, it’s all just opinion. I will however say that I don’t like “one genre or another” I either like a song or I don’t and I’m not as big of a stan for individual artists, just what song they created so I always hate when people ask me. Not to mention most music I listen to is from either a game, anime, or movie. I’ll try to make most of these the clean versions.

Daft Punk: This is an easy one. They created the Tron Legacy soundtrack (Tron seems to always make its way onto most of my top 15 lists), they are my number 1 that I would go see in concert (that’s still around) if only they’d have another tour. So many other artists have sampled their work and people have mixed their tracks with other artists on YouTube and they just add to the excellent sound.

David Bowie: This a bit of a comfortable one, in a way it reminds me of my stepdad but his music ranges from stuff about space to just every day stuff that massages your needs, another one that can have remixes done and just add to the magic. I’ve heard some of his songs before he died like Moonage Daydream in Guardians of the Galaxy but it was only after his death that I really started liking his music. I used to think he was an actor first and a musician second but I stand corrected.

The Weeknd: This boy can drop a track and the words don’t even have to matter because the lyrics can be twisted but the vocals and the beat say otherwise and I know somewhere, somehow, you’ve heard his music even if you haven’t realized it. Oh and Starboy? Yeah that features Daft Punk. Oh and that song? Got its own Marvel comic! (before it was cancelled after the first issue due to name and story issues)

Kendrick Lamar: I don’t consider myself into rap much but I genuinely think that Kendrick is probably one of the best rappers. Who else do you know that talks about Grey Poupon mustard and makes it sound good? His voice is recognizable and calm but almost raspy but then he can turn it and make it fast and angry, either would make just about any song sound good. I wish they had him cover ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ for the Lion King, because I could just imagine how good it’d sound especially with Beyonce.

Electric Light Orchestra: My introduction was Don’t Bring Me Down but what really brought me into their music was trying to come up with something classic for a soundtrack for one of my stories and well this stood out the most.

The Black Eyed Peas: I grew up in this age. This was the kick-off to getting myself into music. It was my first CD, it was my first song on my new iPod nano, it was the first time I even showed an interest (which was late in the game).

Aerosmith: Another early one for me because this is what I was exposed to as a kid and everything since then has made an impression on me. Steven Tyler had the most plays on that iPod nano. I would normally suggest Dream On but I picked You See Me Crying first because it came to mind first to display the range of music they have, it’s a very sad song but also a bit of a calmer one that I don’t think gets nearly as much attention as it should.

Kanye: He made a music video based on Akira. Did I mention that it popularized the shutter shades again? Oh, and the song? Yeah it samples Daft Punk. That’s not even the only time he did that either, he sampled a track from Tron with Kid Cudi (but it was just a demo). He does a lot of sampling but somehow he builds on the original songs and tracks and makes them better.

MJ: I can’t find a better deconstruction of a song than Billie Jean. It’s practically a masterpiece. Take the track out and the vocals still sound good. Take the vocals out and the track still sounds good. You can do whatever the heck you want to this song and it will still sound good, I even listen to the Animal Crossing remix sometimes. The closest I could find to that was Billie Joel’s ‘For the Longest Time’ because it’s acapella.

Twenty One Pilots: Trench. Need I say more? I like nearly every song in that album and that’s rare. I see plenty of stans for this band but that’s not what made me care, because a lot of their old songs are ear worms and have been overused and I think even they realize that such as ‘Ride’ and ‘Stressed Out’ (more like Worn Out). But then somehow something good came out of the Suicide Squad movie, a special song, Heathens! By the title, it sounds odd but upon closer inspection, it’s juicy. On top of that, Trench comes out and basically clarifies that a lot of their music videos connect and involve theories with their own universe and whole ARGs devoted to it.

Genesis: If I could give this band a number, it would be 17 because that’s the age that Genesis seemed to define. I liked a lot of their songs but I began using the songs as references to my love life at the time because I was going through a lot. I like Phil Collins on his own too but Genesis simply has more tracks that I love, I even bought and read Phil’s autobiography because as you probably already know, he did the music for both Tarzan and Brother Bear.

John Mayer: I almost put Drake Bell here instead but John Mayer is the kind of music you listen to when your heart aches and I for one like it.

Smash Mouth: These later ones are getting a bit weird, huh? But yeah, the famous ‘All Star’ creators make some decent music, I won’t even reference any more from Shrek.

Walking on the Sun, Can’t Get Enough of You Baby, When the Morning Comes

Sweet: You remember that part in Regular Show where they had the dance off with the ghost DJ’s? Or how about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 trailer? I even have a shirt with their logo on it because I liked the idea of making it tie-dye but it didn’t work very well so now it’s just an orange stained Sweet tee.

Sheryl Crow: “This ain’t no disco. This ain’t no country club either. This is L.A.” I can’t help but vibe when I hear her, I’m not into country (as you can see from this list) but she makes it fun, she is an exception of sorts, she doesn’t do just one thing. If you read her Wiki, she does basically all genres and I like that she isn’t bound to one thing, it’s representative of her fun music and personality. Yeah, she’s guilty of the mainstream wear out as well but they can’t have them all. Picture is technically Kid Rock but she’s featured and I’d feel bad if I didn’t include it.

Initial ranking of The Great War tracks

11. The End of the War to End All Wars - DON'T @ me, it's still a good song, but I think I expected more after the opening strings section. Didn't feel like it had a lot of structure, and I found it kind of rambling. 6/10

10. In Flanders Fields - certified tear-jerker, a good song to end a different WW1 album perhaps? After the album's bombast and heat, this kind of comes out of nowhere, jarring. Will probably listen to it separate from the album in the future. 7/10

9. Devil Dogs - definitely the new Smoking Snakes, and some might say that's a bad thing. But Smoking Snakes is one of my favorite songs soooo 7/10

8. Seven Pillars of Wisdom - my favorite guitar solo on this album, chorus is tight, other lyrics might need a little work. 7/10

7. The Future of Warfare - Ghost Division 2: Electric Boogaloo, great, second best chorus on the album, drumming is Peak, i never found tanks interesting or cool until Sabaton wrote about them. 8/10

6. 82nd All the Way - hype, reminiscent of To Hell and Back but honestly this is better. 8.5/10

5. The Red Baron - HYPE, feels like you're listening to an old arcade game at first, but then this train goes 0-9,000 mph and has no stops, will make you want to fly a fighter jet for no good reason. 10/10

4. A Ghost in the Trenches - feels new, feels fresh, a real chest-pounder, and great to hear a song about a First Nations war hero. 10/10

3. Great War - oh my godddd, the background singing, the unrelenting dark tone, Joakim's singing hits right in the heart, the instrumentation is so crisp. Truly a song befitting its namesake. 10/10!!

2. Fields of Verdun - the first single and the best. The ugliness and darkness of the war are palpable through the lyrics. Somewhat reminiscent of Counterstrike, but better. It's so bleak, but at the same time it's about persistence, determination, and fighting against all the grisly odds. 11/10

1. The Attack of the Dead Men - "hundred men, charge again, die again" jesus god, a fitting tribute to one of the wildest and scariest WW1 stories of all time, the best chorus, the best lyrics, again a testament to both the horrors and the glories of the Great War, could be put in a zombie movie with no one the wiser. 1000/10, maybe their best song ever.

Black Beauty

As a part of America’s Bicentennial in 1976, President Gerald Ford formally recognized Black History Month. The impetus for this month-long celebration began with educators at Kent State University in 1970, and the roots of this historical focus on contributions of people of African descent could be traced to the achievements of Dr. Carter G. Woodson.  

Woodson, only the second African-American (after W.E.B. Du Bois) to earn a doctorate from Harvard University championed the cause of researching and preserving the history of African-Americans, and among his many initiatives he launched the celebration of “Negro History Week” in February to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln.

The 1970s were rich with images of African pride, and establishing Black History Month at the start of the decade was apropos. The inertia of Black Pride would ultimately result in the historical inauguration of Barack Obama as President in 2009. Pop culture witnessed the popularity of Blaxploitation films such as “Shaft”, television situation comedies starring legendary comics like Redd Foxx, Bill Cosby, Jimmie Walker, and Richard Pryor, the immensely popular Soul Train created by Don Cornelius established an institution that chugged for 35 years, and Hank Aaron and Muhammad Ali hammered, floated, and stung as the most remarkable athletes of the 20thcentury.

The “Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, saddened by the gang warfare in Compton and Watts, utilized his powerful influence to regain the pride that he felt had been lost in the urban community.  Penning what became the anthem of the Black Pride movement, “Say It Loud,” he articulated individual responsibility and the recognition that each person’s uniqueness could energize the whole if the energy directed towards elevation, not destruction. He and his musical collaborator “Pee Wee” Ellis created a musical approach that opened the way for the emergence of Hip-Hop, with their long, looping vamps, the emphasis of beat 1, rather than 2 and 4, the percolating semiquaver guitar and the thumping Fender electric bass soon to be revolutionized by Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins.

It was in this context that Miles Davis permanently separated himself from the traditionalists of modern jazz and fully embracing the zeitgeist. Although baffling the critics who seemed to be invested in jazz music remaining as an elite idiom, those who knew Davis would not be surprised that he supported the Black Power movement fully, and found inspiration in James Brown’s grooves, Richard Pryor’s uncompromising commentary, and the ferocity and cadence of Muhammad Ali. Urged by his young new bride, Betty Mabry, his departure into “Black is Beautiful” fashion was underscored by his fascination with looping funk grooves, inspired by Brown’s “Say It Loud” and his experimentation with electric instruments. 

One need only study the covers encasing his newest records of this period to see surrealistic depictions of counterculture Afrocentric expression as in Bitches Brew (1969), urban ghetto caricatures of prostitutes, gays, activists, winos, and drug dealers as utilized on the 1972 project On The Corner to know what Miles was communicating in these years building to the establishment of Black History Month in 1976.

In his final decade of life, Davis’s advocacy of the Black Pride did not abate. His first album on Warner Brothers Records was released in 1986 called Tutu, named for the South African Nobel Peace Prize winner, Bishop Desmond Tutu. The project was another bold step in a different direction, employing Marcus Miller’s many skills to place Miles’s voice into a synthetic, digital context, maintaining the muscularity of a Mike Tyson-like jab, pungent harmonies and the abstraction of random, fragmented solo voices that defined the 1980s. 

The follow up to this album was Amandla, a Zulu word for “power” used to bring down Aprtheid. His final collaboration with Miller, Miles explored an amalgamation of styles including West Indian zouk (inspired by Kassav), go-go, hip-hop, funk, and even straight-ahead jazz.  The album cover for this project was his own collaboration with his artistic and romantic partner, Jo Gelbard, depicting his self-portrait with a map of Africa embedded within.  

In Quincy Troupe’s newest publication, Miles & Me, he describes Miles as an “unreconstructed black man” with a fiercely tough and unapproachable demeanor, and an uncompromising champion of urban culture.  Critical of his heroes Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie for smiling, and emulating the boldness of Jack Johnson in an out of the boxing ring, he represents a figure who spent his life obsessively looking forward and challenging the world to keep up with him.  To understand Black History from 1926-1991, one need to look no further than the remarkable life of Miles Davis.

Penthouse and Pavement, Heaven 17 (1981)

Eloquent, educated, politically conscious, yet fundamentally groovy and substantially catchy synth pop, Heaven 17’s debut is as much a dance album as it is violent and in-your-face. But everyone needs that kind of kick up the backside when it comes to striving to be a politically-sensible, socially-conscientious human being.

Penthouse and Pavement is, foremostly, effortlessly melodic and irresistibly catchy. And it’s no wonder, given both Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh were both founding members of Eighties pop titans The Human League. It’s the tiny moments, like the whistles on ‘Play to Win’, piano twinkles on ‘Soul Warfare’ and vocal hook on ‘The Height of the Fighting’, that demonstrate so clearly the trio’s natural affinity for catchy pop songs. Produced by the Marsh and Ware’s own B.E.F. (British Electric Foundation), the general sound of Penthouse and Pavement might be a bit dated; but the mix of new wave, sophisti-pop, synth pop and minimal synth isn’t one that really sounds any worse forty years later.

Named after a pop band in Anthony Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange, it’s also no wonder that Penthouse and Pavement is so politically charged. Tracks as spurring as ‘(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang’, ‘Let’s All Make a Bomb’ and ‘The Height of the Fighting (He-La-Hu)’ are clever and thought-provoking, if not exactly subtle.

Penthouse and Pavement is sophisti-pop with a backbone, free from the cringey shackles of New Romantic and buttressed by political commentary in a way that makes it stand clearly apart from most records in the genre. It’s one of the genre’s most underrated albums and remains just as perfect to soundtrack fascist-bashing today as it did back in 1981.

"Blue roses do not exist, Hanyu as well, he gives an impression that he does not belong in this world", Japanese photographer Ninagawa Mika has said this of Hanyu Yuzuru. This youth who is already a legend at the tender age of 23, what other miracle-like surprises can he bring us?

Every year, the Japanese imperial family will host a spring garden party and invite outstanding personalities from all fields to view the flowers, converse, eat delicious food and listen to music at the Shinjuku Gyo-en.

This year, among the 1940 guests, one person’s arrival created a stir among the assembled ladies - he is 2 times Olympic champion Hanyu Yuzuru.

Just a few days ago. Hanyu Yuzuru held a celebratory parade in his hometown Sendai with over a hundred thousand people in attendance. This year, he was invited to the garden party (the last time was after he won in 2014), and even the princesses revealed that they had held hands together to cheer for him (insert fangirl heart eyes) ~

In this type of formal setting, female guests normally choose kimonos or suits while male guests usually appear in hakamas, suits or uniforms.

Hanyu who has donned suits both times has said that he prefers a slim-cut which fits his body well. He might have said so, but perhaps Hanyu is too slender (actually his muscles are well-developed, and his body fat percentage is super low), it is hard for a run-of-the-mill suit to fit well on his body.

Compared to the western suit, actually a traditional hakama suits Hanyu better, but this super low-profile Olympic champion really doesn’t have too many opportunities to show us~

However on the ice, Hanyu’s style is varying and elaborate, every costume can be said to be a piece of art. Asymmetrical designs, crystals, gradation, Japanese style, classic, lace…...a perfect combination of masculine heroic spirit and feminine softness and beauty.

Figure skating is about both athleticism and artistry, and as the ‘absolute champion’ of this sport,  Hanyu has already declared that he is one-of-a-kind just from his costumes.

CHOPIN BALLADE NO.1

We’ve already established that Hanyu is a ‘skating fairy’, Chopin is a program which best embodies his ethereal aura and elegance.

After the end of the 2014 Olympic season, Chopin V1.0 made its debut. From the white to blue gradation, the rows of crystal embellishments and the flowy lantern sleeves, it creates the effect of a grand introduction and conclusion while on the ice, and reflects the leisure and calmness of this well-known piece of music.

Chopin V2.0

For Chopin V2.0 in the 2015 season, the color of the costume has changed from sapphire-blue to sky-blue, and gold elements have been added to the sleeves and waist. The belt is changed to gold as well (all of these reflecting the champion’s desire for gold).

Olympic Chopin V3.0

For the Olympics season, the chosen blue shade is a deep sky-blue in between the colors of the previous versions. The gold elements are up-up-upgraded as well - gold crystals and pearls are added to the neckline and the colorful rhinestones on the gold belt are extremely shiny (yet very lowkey), a perfect complement to the rush of thick emotions and fanatical fervour of the ballade’s climax.

Among all of Hanyu’s programs, Seimei which was inspired by the movie Onmyouji is definitely the most famous.

Seimei V1.0

At an ice show before the start of the 2015 season, Hanyu revealed this program for the first time. After being redesigned by designer Ito Satomi and Hanyu, the Heian-era karigime becomes a lighter, more convenient and fitting costume.

Kyogen stage actor Nomura Mansai who plays Seimei in the movie had a one-to-one exchange with Hanyu and gave him a lot of suggestions on the hand movements, rhythm control and character understanding. When the program was officially debuted in competition, we saw ‘Hanyu Seimei’ V2.0.

The most obvious changes were that the shoulders and waist were looser so as to allow for easier movement. The light green ribbon ties on the sleeves are now bordered by grass-green. There is an additional mesh insert on both the front and back. More gold embellishments and green embroidery and rhinestones were added. And the black gloves - there are many hand movements when Seimei casts his spells and the contrast between the black gloves and white rink is more stark.

During this Olympic season, V3.0 makes an appearance. A large portion of the bead work and embroidery is removed and replaced with crystal embellishment instead (3000 pieces were allegedly used). The main reason for this change is to lighten the weight of the costume so that it is easier to jump.

Even the belt is changed to a gold color which looks more majestic and as per the old design, it is embellished with crystals of varying sizes. There is a slight change in the color of the costume as well; a touch of deep red is added to the purple while the lace ties becomes cyan/teal.

The front, back, sleeves and even the lower part of the shirt is embroidered with an even more lavish golden phoenix design (all in all, the champion must be commanding + regal), at the back there’s even a signature Seimei ‘5 point star’.

Usually, skating to Japanese-style music is not favorable in international competitions, but this program has helped him broke the world record twice and win the Olympics again in 2018. Actually, just from the details on this costume, you can already see how much he has fine-tuned this program’s choreography.

LET'S GO CRAZY

In all of Hanyu’s programs, Let’s Go Crazy (nicknamed ‘Go Crazy’ by fans) is the program which drives fans the most-most-most crazy. Basically every time you watch it, you get a nosebleed. All the lil actions woven in the program are designed to bedazzle and drive you crazy.

This is Prince’s famous song. In April 2016, the pop star passed away. Hanyu, who was then preparing for the new season, together with his choreographer decided to use this song as a tribute to Prince and came up with a crazy and bold program.

The inspiration for the costume came from Prince’s concert. This song was in the album ‘Purple Rain’ so the costume was mainly in purple. The vest over the shirt and the standing collar were all references to the outfit worn in the MV. The bead work and sparkles on the vest were also designed based on the photos.

His hair was also styled differently from the usual, his hair was combed back in a style that reveals his forehead, which was rare. Actually his hairstyle was based on Japan’s ‘i-ta men’ style. This term originates from the samurai Date Masamune who lived during the Japanese warring period. He was brave and valiant and excellent in warfare, yet he dressed magnificently, so ‘i-ta men’ was used to describe such men. Later it evolved to describe playboy/dandy type of men.

NOTTE STELLATA

Notte Stellata is an exhibition program which Hanyu used for 2 seasons. In Italian, Notte Stellata means ‘a sky full of stars’.

During the Great East Japan earthquake seven years ago, Hanyu was at the Sendai ice rink practicing and after escaping, he sought refuge at a school gymnasium for several days. There was no electricity in the entire city and only the stars in the sky shone brightly, planting seeds of hope in the youngster’s heart and hence this program came to be.

Adorned with white feathers and featuring a daring off-shoulder design and deep V-cuts in both the front and the back, the costume has the grace and elegance of a swan; and the crystals scattered on the sleeves and the bodice are just like the stars in the sky.

Perhaps it is his perpetual youthful looks and his slender body frame, even in a design which seems feminine, Hanyu is able to make it his own. This is one of his special traits.

Actually most of Hanyu’s exhibition pieces revolve around a common theme - praying and wishing the best for the disaster area. Having ‘escaped’ after the earthquake, he has always felt that he has not done enough for the disaster area, so he has donated his bonus for winning the Olympics and the revenue from the sales of his autobiography and so on, and he has always tried his best to express these emotions during his exhibition skates.

So most of Hanyu’s costumes for his exhibitions are usually softer compared to his costumes for his competitions and are usually made of chiffon with pleating and floral decorative details. Under the dim lights on the ice rink during the exhibition, it is like a beacon of light, full of life.

This is the most emotive of all of Hanyu’s free skate programs and till today, it still holds the world record for the highest score for the free skate. Hope & Legacy is the theme song for the 1998 Nagano Paralympics and is composed by the famous Hisaishi Joe. And this year is exactly the year Hanyu started skating.

This program is like an exchange between Hanyu himself and the ice rink, Since he started skating at 4 years old, figure skating is almost his entire life. From longing to desire to adversity to fear and finally to the release of emotions and rapture, these were all showcased in a single breath.

Just like the blue, green and white gradation signifies the the sky, the earth and the rink, everything is as natural as the floating clouds and flowing waters, and the scattered rhinestones are clustered even more closely than before, just like the shining marks that Hanyu has left behind in his journey.

It is indeed profound that after a mistake resulting in him in fifth place after the short program at the 2017 World championships, he went on to perform this free skate perfectly and broke the world record at 223.20 points, creating the impossible and aiding him in capturing the gold medal.

This costume actually has a ‘previous form’ six years ago. It was the season right after the 311 earthquake and the short program is titled Etude.

To Hanyu, this is a costume which was in remembrance of the disaster, the many layers of blue are used to express the giant waves and the sea and to commemorate everything that was lost in the earthquake and the tsunami. At that time, he was only 17 and he could already deliver such a soulful performance.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

POTO is a classic song that has been used by many other figure skaters, yet Hanyu’s interpretation still manages to inject freshness.

The earliest version was pieced together from red, black and white fabrics in a asymmetrical fashion (the black part is openwork lace) and aptly fits the character who has lost himself in his obsession for his love and has the resplendence of the men’s court attire in the 19th century.

However, this costume was sealed after just wearing it once; before the competition he collided heavily with another skater and sustained severe external and internal injuries and even had to have an operation. Hence this version of POTO was never seen again in competitions.

The redesigned POTO costume went from figurative to an imagery style, the concept of the veined patterns are interlaced with the doomed love between the angel and the phantom, but the designs on the collar, the end of the sleeves and the waist still retains the elements of the Romanticism period.

PARISIENNE WALKWAYS

Fans call it the ‘Big Parisienne Saunter’ and it’s the program that has made many fall for him. Hanyu started using this short program since the 2012 season, and it is from this time that he started breaking all kinds of records, and it even became the first short program to ever break the hundred point barrier at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

At first glance, it looks like a simple shirt + belt + pants combination, but actually the shirt is full of thoughtful details: the pleats on the front and back are adorned with sparkles, and in line with the blue and white color scheme which seems like the blue sky, the sparkles look like shiny stars hiding in the clouds, which perfectly matches the aura of the youth who had just turned legal.

There’s a detail here, which is our ‘perfectionist’ Hanyu even had a matching bottle cover with his costume (it should be hand-made by Hanyu’s mum’s deft hands) ~

An elaborate figure skating costume can easily cost up to ten-thousands, Hanyu's costumes were initially designed and hand-made by his mother and subsequently he collaborated with designers Orihara Shizuko, Ito Satomi and famous figure skating veteran Johnny Weir. Every costume is worth to be admired and appreciated. Actually Japan is holding a Hanyu photo and costume exhibition, if you’re in town, why not go take a look?

For an Olympic gold medallist to have such high popularity, can it just be attributed to his appearance and the sport’s intrinsic entertainment value? To explain, we can probably use the well-known phrase “starting from his face, falling for his talent, staying for his character”.

2 times consecutive Olympics champion, 12 times world record breaker and the current record holder for the highest scores for the short program, the free skate and the combined scores, behind these hard facts are his perfectionism and determined performances.

“There is no meaning if you do not try your best at doing what can be done, this cannot be called ‘staking your life’.”

Every time before he goes on the ice, he’ll touch the ice as a sign of respect towards the sport

To clearly say “hate to lose” these three words, Hanyu seems like a high-spirited teenager. As long as it’s a silver, he will be super frustrated. He doesn’t just does highly difficult jumps, he combines them with difficult entries and exits to score the maximum GOE. His techniques in competition are clean, there are definitely no petty tricks. He has many injuries and his condition seems to fluctuate high and low but he has never faltered at the crucial timing. When some athletes choose to retire after becoming famous, he is still passionate about the sport and has declared that he wants to challenge the 4A and quintuple jumps…… Just as Hanyu himself said, “I have bet my entire life on skating”.

Just a strong determination is not enough, Hanyu’s brain can be said to not lose to his athletic ability. He is enrolled in Waseda University and is able to respond within seconds to change his jump layout to make up for lost points. First we need to go to the Apple Icon in the top left of the screen, then select the System Preferences option.

Uninstall

After a few seconds this should open up the SwitchResX preferences. With the preferences as the active window go to the top menu and select SwitchResX Control then Uninstall SwitchResX..

A dialog box will come up asking you to confirm uninstalling SwitchResX. Click Yes to proceed with the uninstall.
