1907 - S-Motor Electric Loco - New York Central & Hudson River Line
S-Motor was the class designation given by the New York Central to its ALCO-GE built S-1, S-2, S-2a and S-3 electric locomotives. The S-Motors hold the distinction of being the world's first mass-produced main line electric locomotives with the prototype #6000 being constructed in 1904. The S-Motors would serve alone until the more powerful T-motors began to arrive in 1913, eventually displacing them from main line passenger duties. From that point the class was assigned to shorter commuter trains and deadhead rolling stock between Grand Central Terminal and Mott Haven coach yard. Some examples, including the prototype later renumbered #100, would serve in this capacity through the Penn Central merger in 1968, only being retired in the 1970s as long distance passenger traffic to Grand Central dried up.

I may or may not be compiling a chronological list of nearly every locomotive ever directly because of starlight express
#I’ve got down 103 locos so far#this was born out of frustration of not being able to find a chronological list of electric trains#bc visually Electra looks most like the SNCF CC40100#like their helmet n shit#which makes sense because they’re quad voltage and not ac or dc (like in the song) and also incooperated several different#innovations in electric locomotives#but it also doesn’t make any sense. bc the cc 40100 was like from the 60s and Electra is the engine of the future and everything#so I wanted to look at what electic locos were made in the 80s for autism purposes#anyways. I did land on one- there are two prototypes made in the 80s based on the cc 40100#which is the SNCF BB 20011 and the SNCF BB 20012#which have the same visual design as the cc 40100 and when you look up pictures of em have lightning bolts on the side#and they’re prototypes which I like to imagine Electra is#and they’re only dual voltage not quad voltage but Electra’s like ac dc it’s okay by me so it still fits#admittedly they weren’t really prototyping anything exciting and I would’ve preferred an american engine as opposed to a french one but#beggars can’t be choosers.#if you can’t tell by now this entire post was an excuse to infodump about trains#so I am going to tag the stex fandom. to make my train autism everyone else’s problem#idk if the tag will even register I once read that only the first seven tags actually make any effect on the tagging system but who caressss#stex#the story of the locomotive who raced against a horse and lost and the locomotive that was powered by a horse shall wait till another day.

Saturday Movie Night: Plumb-Loco (1971)
youtube
By 1970, BR had just about completed their 15-year modernisation plan, and the most tangible signs of this were the total replacement of steam with diesel and electric traction, the paring down of the railway network, and the upgrading of what was left. Getting rid of steam traction left BR with loads of scrap metal, and much of this was recycled to provide raw materials for the new order.
It seems the filmmakers also caught the recycling bug, as much of the footage comes from an earlier BTF production, The Driving Force (1966), which discusses the locomotive replacement program in more detail - and will itself be discussed in more detail in a future Saturday Movie Night.

It’s funny seeing a rare contrarian in the wild who actively says they aren’t into US steam/diesel engines “because they all look the same” and is more into electric trains, even mundane EMUs because “they come in more shapes and colors”
#i will argue that shortlines have more model/color variety with diesel locos (also tend to be more railfan friendly)#but otherwise weirdly makes sense since transit agencies tend to have relatively fun colors and stuff is so oooold you have more variety#and while there were never a ton of US electric engines they’re really all over the place visually

Inside Burton locomotive depot - c1964 by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: A photograph inside of British Railways (BR) Burton traction maintenance depot (17B?) showing part of the turntable, with two steam, and one diesel-electric locomotive in view. The steam numbers are hard to make out but I think they are, from left to right, Nos. 47643, 47250, and diesel-electric D5149. The photo is stuck in a old rail enthusiast album, unfortunately there is no date or photographer name, but they do appear to date from early/mid 1960s. ---------------------------------- No. 47643 was a H. Fowler designed class 3F, 0-6-0T engine, built by Beardmore, in Dalmuir, Glasgow and new to the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) in Jan 1929, carrying No. 16726, being renumbered to 7643 in 1934. In 1948 the railways were nationalised, becoming British Railways (BR), engine No. 7643 became No. 47643. The locomotive was withdrawn from service by BR in Oct 1966, then scrapped in June of the following year at 'Cashmore's Great Bridge' scrapyard. ---------------------------------- No. 47250 was a S. Johnson designed class 2441, 0-6-0T engine, built by the Vulcan Foundry and new to the Midland Railway (after grouping the London, Midland & Scottish Railway) in Jun 1902, carrying No. 2771, being renumbered to 1950 in 1907, then 7250 in 1934. In 1948 the railways were nationalised, becoming British Railways (BR), engine No. 7250 became No. 47250. The locomotive was withdrawn from service by BR in Jun 1965, then scrapped in the December. ---------------------------------- No. D5149 was a class 24, Bo-Bo wheeled diesel-electric locomotive, built by the Derby Works and new to BR in Feb 1961. It was withdrawn from service in Oct 1972, and in April of the following year was broken up at the Locomotive Works in St Rollox, Glasgow. ---------------------------------- If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. I know very little about locomotives! Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------

Adding this bcs as @originalpeanutkid commented, their inital connotation for the concept was 'The Wedding singer',, so yeah..what if the concept is that the SMGB, (in this mv called 'La Verità' band) is playing at a wedding. Jimin is in a bandleader outfit after all.
Such an outfit was also famously worn by another rock god, Jimi Hendrix. If you don't know of him and his legacy, please do look it up. He was a monster on the electric guitar.
Are we getting an electric serenade perhaps? We've been expecting a rock ballad for a while, could this finally be it?
But back to weddings and the wedding band idea. It would cement the idea that Jimin and his band not only spread love and happiness like in SGMB but are also part of the 'forever after'. Where couples commit to one another.
WHERE A COUPLE COMMITS TO A FOREVER AFTER.. let that sink into my cocktail of delusions.
https://www.tumblr.com/kanmom51/755393236695220224/the-truth?source=share
@kanmom51 also brought up that odd notice that made a wedding reference.
While I doubt that he'd allude to his real-life wedding, I do think a very intentional link is being made.
Just as Jimin’s spirit seems much lighter and brighter since Face, his happiness too is taking center stage here.. he wants us to join him on this new path.
Let me leave you with these lyrics from Message of Love by Hendrix. Free Love for all.
Can't help falling in Love.
Many famous rockstars have worn heels. Bangtan too have worn many a high heel. Hoseok slayed his pair during MAMA 2022. Jk more recently wore a nice pair for a shoot.
Yet, whenever Jimin wears a heel, I feel like he's very intentional with it. Especially here, where the dychotomy of the simple dark slimfit suit with those 'fuck me' boots are striking on him. The inseam of the trouser shows off the slope of the shoe in such a way as to become meaningful. Not hidden. Not worn to create hight, but to be flaunted. And Jimin, who leans into his feminine side with practiced ease, his long legs strong and grounded.
There are a few more things to note about this Serenade poster. The colors are giving 'blush and bashful' (if anyone gets this reference, let's be friends) and remind me of old-fashioned weddings, which my mind then connects to 'chapel of love', and yes, Elvis! The King. The photo has a very vintage like flair with a modern twist.
It also seems like Jimin’s jacket has an epaulette, and maybe even a brooch??
I went looking far and wide for a brooch Jimin wore during the PTD concerts because I remember reading somewhere that he wore a vintage brooch, that then got repurposed for JK's SNTY mv outfit. It's the top starburst brooch on JK's right shoulder in the pic below. Did I make that up?? JK, likewise, has an epaulet on his jacket 👀 too early to tell perhaps.
Speaking of Elvis, another thing to note is that Elvis, too famously, enlisted at the peak of his career. He was plagued by fans on or near his base when all he wanted was to serve dutifully.
The last part of the quote reminded me of Jimin and his shorn locks. It seemed like that was one of the last parts of his identity that he loathed, having to let that go before enlisting.
NOW TELL ME Why did I make myself sad after the initial PTERODACTYL SCREECH I let out when I first saw the poster and those heels!?!... damn, lemme go back to that creature. Living life, loving Jimin. Screaming at work like a normal person.

Superstition - Carlos Alcaraz
|WARNINGS: smut, +18 |SUMMARY: You and your boyfriend's superstitions... |AUTHOR'S NOTE: I missed writing for carlitos😭 but i'm back now😉😉
Paris at night was stunning, and tonight felt especially magical. The Eiffel Tower sparkled in the distance, and the soft hum of the city outside made the hotel room feel extra cozy. Carlos and you were snuggled up together, but he seemed a bit distracted. His fingers were tracing patterns on your arm, and you noticed he was lost in thought.
"What's on your mind, Carlos?"
He looked at you with a playful glint in his eyes. “Do you remember the night before I won Wimbledon?”
You remembered that night all too well. A smile spread across your face as the memory came back.
“What about it?” you asked, laughing softly, feeling playful.
He gazed at you, the city lights reflecting in his eyes. “That night brought me so much luck, cariño,” he said, his voice low and teasing.
You cuddled closer, enjoying the warmth of his body against yours. “And you think tonight could be the same?”
Carlos's touch was both soothing and electric. “I don’t just think so. I’m certain,” he said softly, his eyes filled with desire. “I need this.”
You could sense a mix of nervous excitement and need in his voice. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to be too tired for the match tomorrow.”
Carlos chuckled, shaking his head. “How could I ever be too tired for you?”
He leaned in and kissed you, and what started as a gentle touch quickly became more passionate. His hands slid up your back, pulling you closer as the kiss deepened. You responded eagerly, tangling your fingers in his hair.
As the intensity grew, Carlos’s hand slipped under your shirt, sending shivers down your spine. You pulled away just enough to look into his eyes, making sure he was really sure about this. “Are you sure this is what you want? You have a big day tomorrow.”
Carlos smiled, his gaze full of desire. “I want you,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I need you.”
His words made you shiver with anticipation. You pulled him back, kissing him passionately. Carlos’s hands were everywhere, exploring and teasing, driving you both higher with each touch.
Soon, your clothes were tossed aside, the cool air contrasting sharply with the heat between you. Carlos’s lips traveled down your neck, his breath hot against your skin. “You drive me crazy,” he murmured, his voice filled with a mix of awe and hunger.
“Good,” you whispered back, running your hands over his chest. “Because I want you to remember this tomorrow. I want you to think about me.”
Carlos’s eyes darkened with desire. “Trust me,” he said, his voice rough, “I won’t be able to think of anything else.”
He kissed you again, this time with even more intensity, as his hands roamed your body, caressing and exploring. You arched into his touch, your moans growing softer.
Carlos’s lips and tongue worked their magic, sending waves of pleasure through you. “Te vuelves loca,” he whispered in Spanish, his voice filled with wonder. “Me vuelves loco.”
His hands rested on your thighs, holding you open as his tongue continued its teasing dance. “Eres todo lo que deseo,” he murmured, his voice a mix of reverence and desire. “Quiero sentirte así toda la noche.”
The sensation of his tongue exploring you made you gasp, your body trembling. The room was filled with your soft moans and his spanish sentences that could me you go wild. “Dime lo que quieres,” he said, his voice husky. “Quiero escuchar tus gemidos.”
You could barely speak, the pleasure overwhelming you. “Don’t stop,” you begged, your voice thick with need. “Please, Carlos.”
He responded with renewed fervor, his movements pushing you closer to the edge. The combination of his touch and whispered dirty talk made everything more intense.
“Eres mi todo,” he murmured against your most sensitive spot. “No puedo tener suficiente de ti.”
As the waves of pleasure crashed over you, you clung to him, your body arching and trembling. Carlos’s movements never faltered, his focus entirely on making you feel amazing.
He moved up to kiss you again, his lips capturing yours with fierce passion. As his kisses deepened, he guided you to the edge. Carlos positioned himself between your legs, his hands tracing a path along your inner thighs.
“¿Estás lista?” he asked, his voice low and filled with anticipation.
You nodded, your body already responding. Carlos entered you slowly, the sensation of him filling you completely made you both moan softly. His movements were steady, each thrust deliberate and passionate.
Carlos’s eyes locked onto yours, and he whispered in Spanish, “Eres todo para mí.”
You wrapped your legs around him, pulling him closer, feeling every inch of him. The connection between you was electric, each movement heightening the pleasure. Carlos gripped your hips firmly, guiding you both through the rhythm of your desire.
The room filled with your shared pleasure: moans, gasps, and whispered endearments. Carlos’s breath was hot against your ear as he pushed you both toward the edge. “Quiero sentirte más cerca,” he murmured, his voice urgent. “No te sueltes.”
You clung to him, your body trembling with the intensity of the sensations. The rhythm between you grew faster, more urgent, both of you pushing toward the peak. Carlos’s movements were driven by a mix of need and love, each thrust bringing you closer to the edge.
“Please, baby, please,” you begged, your voice filled with need.
Carlos’s release came in a powerful wave, and you felt him empty himself inside you.
Carlos pulled you close, his breath mingling with yours.
“This is surely going to bring me luck tomorrow,”

Hey so fun fact: The North Staffordshire Railway had 4 locos running with the number 1 at once
a New L class 0-6-2T (photo is of surviving sister loco No. 2)
A strange looking railmotor
A 2-6-4T 2 ft 6 in NG loco on the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway (also the only named loco on this list, E. R. Calthrop)
And a small 0-4-0 Battery electric loco (only loco on this list that survives today)

Two double-headers on the Trans-Gooiw Railroad passing each other in the hills, dragging long freight trains behind them, during the early days of the Pan-Mellanus Oil Crisis.
More mellanoid trains: Guz's Model Garratt | Museum-piece carrying rocket parts | Advanced Steam Tank Engine | Guz's bigger model Garratt | Tram and Coal Mine loco sketches.
The diesel-hydraulic at the front of the foreground consist, already somewhat old and tired by this point, dates back to around the time period that steam engines were originally retired on Mellanus. It's not very fuel efficient as it is, and with the oil rations, diesels can not handle the trains on their own any longer.
For a few years now the railroads have been taking their steam engines out of mothballs and museums, as coal was comparatively dirt-cheap. Still though, the various maintenance and operational complexities of running steam locomotives resulted in a lot of losses for the railroads.
Pictured here behind the diesel is an early attempt at the Advanced Steam Engine concept, modifying a member of a very prolific and successful 2-8-0+0-8-2 Garratt class with a gas producer combustion system, more modern cylinders and valve gear, and entirely replacing the cab with an electronic control system (with the more diesel-like control stands moved to separate cabs on the tenders). The electronic control scheme allows for the steam engine to be connected to a diesel engine to be run as a multiple unit, cutting down operational costs. However, as a modified prototype, this locomotive lacks some of the other features which exemplified the Advanced Steam era, such as modular ashpans, computerized control, and precision engineering.
On the other track, moving the opposite direction, we see a double header of two steam locomotives, another 2-8-0+0-8-2 loaned from the Slaibsgloth Coal Mine Railroad, and a 2-10-2 'easy' type non-articulated loco leads the train. In this case, there is no electronic connection, so a crew of four mellanoid slimes is necessary to operate the train.
The eagle-eyed railway fans will notice that there are radiators for a dynamic brake on the diesel, yet the diesel is an electric. Diesel-electric dynamic brakes switch the traction motors into generators, and dump the electricity out as waste heat--but there's no traction motors on a hydraulic. So why the radiator fins? There's still a dynamic engine brake on the diesel-hydraulic, so it still needs to be able to dissipate heat, especially on the mountain routes.

THOMAS FANON MAKING TIME! Here's a little doodle I made the other day. We don't see many electric engines in TTTE so here's a bit of a concept for how I think they're dynamics would be, since britian never really had electric trains on a wide scale until modernization we never really got to see how engines of that type see things, which where mainly in the US and continental europe. "Steam ain't going away kid, we tried that in 1905..."
Electric Locomotives hold a bit off an odd place in the wider social world of the railways. They're almost as old as steam engines, the first beginning operation in 1899 and many of them initially acted similarly to how we see diesels do around steam engines in the show/books. "It's the 20th Century teapot! Electric traction is the future, New York may have been the first to realize how messy and outdated you things are but soon every city and country in the world will follow!" but overtime that kind of mindset went away as the 20th century ground on and those early electrics realized steam wasn't going anywhere I'd imagine later 1920s and 1930s like say a GG1 built types would harbor no ill will towards their steam counterparts. (if I ever see another ttte story set in the northeast and a gg1 is an asshole to a steam engine I am going to SCREAM there are steam engines younger than this thing for crying out loud!)
I would imagine 1950s/60s things would change though. The electric locomotives built in that period shared a lot with the diesels that where replacing steam, in appearance and mechanics. I'd imagine they might ally themselves with diesels but maybe they'd be hostile to both steam engines, steam era electric types, AND diesels. Either way I feel like older electric engines would ally themselves with the steam locos due to already having some comradery with them and facing the same fate of scrap. But to the probable surprise of all parties involved, a lot of those steam era electric locomotives survived way longer than the engines the time they're from is named after, with a lot of examples of things like old boxcab electrics and things like the gg1 lasting into the 1980s, but overall that just made their fate come later than the steam engines they once knew. So yeag electric trens really cool and good consider em in your thomas stuff since it's something i don't see touched on.

As much as I want to write Electra whump with them being accurately old and worn down, it’s not easy to find nitty gritty maintenance info on electric locos and my mind demands things be based in reality.
(Ironically I’ve worked on diesel locos and actually have a really good conceptual understanding of steam engines… it’s just my mechanical knowledge is VERY inversely correlated with which characters I’d want to write)
#might be able to swing something with traction motors#which i’ve worked on on diesel locos and would be conceptually kind of similar on electric ones#brush changing is the big thing i did that I remember well#lol absolute redneck moment of crawling underneath with no lift and prying the old ones out in multiple pieces with screwdrivers#it was a scrapyard condition engine and hilariously FILTHY under there#(lol part of why i roll my eyes at rusty is that engines in vastly worse condition of relatively common models can and do get restored)#As in “left at a mine outside for 10 years but the museum thought it could run and was willing to gamble $5k on it”#it’s also an increasingly hilarious comparison to used car prices. it’s a whole (decrepit) F-unit for less than my 2016 corolla
