How about Hermione taking Ron and Hinny out for a Muggle party night?
Thanks for the prompt @hinnysupremacy! I took this and went a different direction with it than you expected but hope you still enjoy!
electric feel
AO3 | FF.net
Summary: "And why aren’t you dancing?"
"Funny, I could ask you the same thing."
---
Harry leaned against the brick wall, taking in deep breaths despite the putrid smell in the narrow alleyway, possibly from someone’s vomit. The music’s resounding beat pulsed against his back.
He looked up when the metal door opened, allowing the music to blare to life momentarily. Ginny stood at the center of it, glancing around before her gaze fell on him. Her cropped top clung to her curves. Her face was flushed, her ponytail loose, a few strands dampened by sweat. His chest swelled at the sight of her.
The heavy door swung shut, muting the obnoxious noise once more.
“There you are,” she said, stepping forward.
He could still see the vestiges of excitement on her face, clearly leftover from the novelty of the Muggle club. Ginny and Ron had badgered Hermione until she caved, but only after forcing them to sit through multiple lectures on the importance of the Statute of Secrecy and appropriate Muggle behavior. Of course, that hadn’t stopped their wide-eyed ogling or proclivity to point and shout the names of normal Muggle things.
Seeing Ginny light up like that had sent a current of joy through him.
She placed her hand on his arm, and he could tell by the way her eyes flickered to her hand that he had tensed. Try as he might, he couldn’t quell the buzzing of panic under his skin. With anyone else, he would recoil, but he felt crushing relief when she drew closer rather than pulling away.
When he forced himself to take another breath, the smell of flowers pushed through all the other alleyway aromas.
“Hey you,” she said. “Enjoying a moment with the bins?”
Harry snorted, his arm naturally winding around her waist. “You know me.”
She hummed in agreement. “I do.”
Pressure rose up his throat. His eyes fluttered closed as he wondered once again how he had ever gotten so lucky.
“You missed out on Ron nearly burning the entire place down because he found the Flaming Dr. Pepper insufficiently flaming. Singed the poor fellow’s brows, though given how thick they were, Ron probably did him a favor.”
His lips twitched up. “How’d he get away with it?”
“Hermione made a whole thing about how unsafe and unreliable the lighty flame thing—”
“Lighter,” he automatically inserted.
“—that’s what I said—”
Harry grinned.
“—was being recalled, whatever that means, due to shoddy main-you-factoring.”
“Manufacturing.”
“She sounded rather convincing. Anyway, she must be over it now because she allowed Ron to pull her into the crowd and dance.”
He stared at the freckles that trailed down her neck, feeling a strange twinge in his chest. “And why aren’t you dancing?”
“Funny, I could ask you the same thing.” She pulled away, not looking particularly impressed by his question.
Harry could still feel the pulsing of the music in him, the press of foreign bodies, suffocating heat, blinding darkness, and flashing lights. The way he couldn't breathe.
Instead, he focused on the weight of Ginny’s hand; the warmth and press against his skin grounded him. He placed his hand over hers, wanting to be bound.
“It was fun, but I’m ready to go home,” she said with an easy smile.
“We can stay,” he blurted because he wanted to be normal, for once. For her.
Something flashed in her eyes, almost too knowingly.
“Nah, I already got to witness Ron making a fool of himself on the dance floor. This outing has peaked.” Her voice was light, but the look in her eyes brooked no argument.
She turned her hand over and interlaced their fingers.
“Come on, Potter, take me home.”
“Okay,” he acquiesced, wanting nothing more. He gathered Ginny close again, trying not to tighten his grip around her waist.
Harry turned on his heel, feeling the familiar tug at his navel. Together, they vanished from the narrow alleyway, leaving the muted throb of music behind.
