Eight-year-old battery maker Northvolt plans to go public next year and has the prospect of reaching a larger, triple-digit billion valuation.
There is money – lots and lots of money – in producing batteries right now. The Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt[1] stands to be worth up to 20 billion dollars in an upcoming IPO, writes the British financial newspaper Financial Times[2]. This is far more than both Visa and Facebook achieved when they went public in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
The eight-year-old Northvolt[3] aims to build the world's greenest battery with the smallest CO₂ footprint in production and subsequent use and with the greatest possible recycling. The company, which both produces lithium-ion batteries and battery systems and is the largest in Europe in its field, was founded by the two former Tesla executives Peter Carlsson and Paolo Cerutti, who are now respectively CEO and deputy commander in charge of day-to-day operations . They have the Danish businessman Jim Hagemann Snabe as chairman of the board. He is also chairman of the board of the German conglomerate Siemens and for some years was chairman of the board of the Mærsk group in Denmark. Previously, he himself was co-CEO of the German IT giant SAP.
According to the Financial Times, the Swedish battery manufacturer will go public in Stockholm, probably in 2024, and with the prospect of 20 billion dollars or almost 141 billion Danish kroner, it will be one of the largest stock market listings for a European company in several years. Northvolt itself will not comment on information about the preliminary plans for the stock market listing, which may change.
The battery market is hot
Northvolt dances with the wave that carries battery manufacturers forward.[4] The batteries are the decisively important part of the advancing electric car market and to be able to store energy – typically green power produced by wind turbines or solar cells.

The construction of a sixth factory will be started before the new year just outside Montreal in Canada and should be completed in 2026. It is part of Northvolt's five billion dollar investment in the North American market.[9] According to the Financial Times, Northvolt is the European entrepreneurial company that has raised the most capital.

Frankenweenie is a 2012 animated film directed by Tim Burton.
The film is the stop motion adaptation of the short film of the same name made by Burton himself in 1984, clearly inspired by the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
The film was nominated for the 2013 Academy Awards as best animated film.
In 1971 Victor Frankenstein, a boy passionate about cinematography and science, lives in the monotonous town of New Holland with his parents Edward and Susan and his little dog Sparky. Victor's talents are observed at school by his classmates: the neighbor Elsa Van Helsinge (niece of the sour Mayor Bergermeister), the hunchbacked boy Edgar, the obese and naive Bob, the pretentious Japanese boy Toshiaki, the sinister Nassor and a very strange blonde girl called Weird Girl, who owns a cat called "Mr. Whiskers". Victor, however, has little contact with them, being too busy with Sparky: Victor's father then encourages his son to join the baseball team to make new friends and to practice a sport; at the game, Victor manages to hit a splendid home run but Sparky, chasing the ball down the street, is hit by a car and dies before Victor's eyes.
But then, inspired by the galvanic experiments of the science teacher Mr. Rzykruski, Victor digs up the little dog from the pet cemetery and takes him to his improvised laboratory in the attic; he manages to revive the dog using the electricity of lightning. The following day, however, Sparky leaves the attic to chase Mr. Whiskers, causing some damage in the neighborhood until he is noticed by Edgar, who asks Victor to teach him how to resurrect the dead and threatens him to reveal his secret to everyone if he doesn't. In order to keep Sparly's existence hidden, Victor agrees and the two revive a goldfish, which inexplicably becomes invisible.
Learning about Edgar's invisible fish, Toshiaki and Bob fear that they won't be able to win the science competition at the annual fair, and so Toshiaki tries to make Bob fly with a rudimentary jetpack improvised with bottles of fizzy drink, but fails and Bob falls from the roof, breaking his arm.
The group then decides to carry out resuscitations separately: Edgar prepares to resuscitate a dead rat found in the garbage, Nassor his mummified hamster "Colossus", Toshiaki his dead turtle Shelley, Bob an expired package of Sea Monkeys and Weird Girl a dead bat. After electrocuting the bodies, the kids involuntarily transform the dead animals into monsters due to their feelings of competition: Edgar's rat becomes a wererat, Shelley an enormous Gamera-like monster, Bob's Sea Monkeys become little monsters amphibians similar to Gremlins and Mr Whiskers, who held Weird Girl's bat in his mouth while it was electrified, a monstrous vampire cat.
After finding Sparky near his tombstone in the animal cemetery, Victor sees the monsters attacking the fair and runs to help his companions: the Sea Monkeys explode by eating very salty popcorn, Colossus is crushed by Shelley, while she and the Wererat turns back into a corpse after being electrocuted again. In the general chaos, Elsa's poodle, Persephone, is captured by Mr Whiskers and transported to the city windmill.
The citizens, feeling pity for the dog's death, decide to reward Sparky for his courage by connecting his electrodes to the batteries of their cars to revive him again.

For the Guben mayor Fred Mahro this is a giant step. Meanwhile, a second settlement in the city is gaining momentum. A third investor is interested.
With early approval from the LfU permitting authority, Rock Tech is allowed to drive 1040 concrete piles into the ground. Rock Tech announced that the first major work on site for the project should begin in the next few weeks. The piling work involves testing the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil. A final building permit is still pending. Company spokesman Andre Mandel was confident on Thursday that this could come in the first quarter of the year.
The company is planning a plant for the production of battery-capable lithium hydroxide for electric cars in the Neissestadt (city on the Nysa river)[5], around two hours from Berlin. The raw material is also required for energy storage. 24,000 tons of lithium hydroxide for batteries of 500,000 electric cars are to be produced annually. Around 470 million euros are to be invested. According to the company, 170 jobs will be created. In a first step, the administration building and laboratory are to be erected.
"I'm waiting for the excavators now," Mayor Mahro told dpa. The city has meanwhile done its "homework" and is preparing for the settlement, among other things by providing the educational infrastructure and planning apartments with a view to influx and workers. "We have decelerated our dismantling program, we are no longer demolishing as much in the city as we once planned," he said. The city councillors also gave the green light for the educational campus, which is in the planning stage.
BiFi
Another settlement in the Neisse/Nysa city is also gaining momentum. The company Jack Link's LSI-Germany GmbH[6] received an initial partial permit from the State Environment Agency (Landesumweltamt) as the responsible authority to set up a production facility for the manufacture of Bifi brand meat snacks at the site. 5000 tons per year are to be produced. Jack Link's primarily produces dried and smoked beef snacks. The best-known brand is Beef Jerky.
The first mini salamis are to be produced there in 2024 and, according to the company, around 100 people will work in the plant. The sausage has been produced in Ansbach, Franconia, for 50 years. The company wants to expand the Bifi business and, according to its own statements, wants to invest around 50 million euros in the production facility. The manufacturer also does not rule out an expansion of production: There is space for three more identical production halls on the site, which could be built in the years to come.
Recycling batteries
After the Canadian company Rock Tech and the US company Jack Link's, the Chinese company Botree Cycling[7] is a third major investor planning to settle in the city on the Neisse. According to the company, which recycles batteries, it would be the first location in Europe. In mid-November, the city and the investor signed a letter of intent to purchase a plot of land. From 2025, Botree could put a battery recycling plant into operation in the industrial area. According to the mayor, the sale of 3.2 hectares in the first half of 2023 is being prepared.
