urgh this morning had a genuine 'what if this is 2015 all over again' moment. what if the polls are wrong again. what if the scaremongering around labour and starmer sticks. what if we fuck this up again.

running the worst possible campaign imaginable after getting left holding the bag by a dogshit party that had been in power for far longer than they deserved, to the extent that their party is now extinct/about to go extinct due to their incredibly annoying personalities and a right wing splinter group called reform stealing all the populist votes they manage to scrounge at the last election (which they only managed to win by framing said election as a referendum on a single trade deal which sounded great at the time but immediately managed to fuck over the entire country)

Do I want to know what hug a husky means
it's not that bad, don't worry! in 2006, david cameron decided to visit the arctic to see the affects of climate change. it was part of a broader attempt to rebrand and modernise the conservative party after the disastrous leaderships of william hague, iain duncan smith, and michael howard.
this is cameron on his trip:

i think a far worse part of this reinvention was his 'hug a hoodie' slogan which was possibly the most patronising and classist thing he could have come up with. but you know. we still chose this guy over gordon brown. and then over ed miliband.

tbh the best solution to not being able to watch goncharov is to watch office (2015) dir. johnnie to and put a little chinese-to-italian filter in your brain

doing my reading on the history of Pride in Edmonton for work (SCREAM! :D ) and it’s so weird to get into recent history and be like oh yeah i was there for that or oh i saw that exhibition. But something that really struck me was the mention of Bill 44 in 2009 (which forbid sexual orientation being discussed in schools at all in the province) and like. ah. that was baby’s first protest for me. I did wear the duct tape over my mouth all day in my subrural high school in [REDACTED] Alberta and this was like. I barely even had a consciousness of myself as queer, to my knowledge I didn’t have queer friends or even people who were openly supportive of those issues. I think at the time I was so very anti-censorship I didn’t even frame it mentally as a queer issue, it was just an issue that i should be mad about and I was and looking back I’m proud :’ )

I really shouldn't be talking about politics on tumblr, but here I go anyway.
Even though there are still some races to be called, the midterms were, predictably, neither a "blue wave," nor a "red tsunami," but instead, the usual nearly 50-50, gridlock-creating split. But both parties have an important lesson here they would learn if they were remotely intelligent (they aren't, so they won't)
Republicans: if you were still the Republican party of pre-2015, this would have been your easiest red tsunami ever. Donald Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ted Cruz, Ron DeSantis, and that whole idiotic, openly heinous lot are ACTIVELY HATED by the majority of Americans and so long as they have ANY legitimate political presence, people are going to reject the Republican Party as a whole regardless of who's on the ballot in a specific election.
Democrats: This should have been your easiest blue wave ever. Your mediocre candidates can narrowly win when people vote against the GOP's cartoonishly evil alternatives (as they should until our system drastically changes to make third parties remotely viable,) but if you gave us candidates who people would be inspired to vote FOR; the kind who aren't wrapped up in scandals and would take TANGIBLE action against the issues people care about, the GOP would be dead in the water; barely even relevant as a political rival.

Journalist Reveals What Trump Really Thinks About Republican Politicians
youtube
A reporter, who interviewed tRump during his 2015 Republikkkan primary, revealed what Rump thought of the people who (later) ended up backing him.
"These politicians are saps & weaklings."
"I will roll over them!!"
Well, he definitely tried his bullying insults on them - which his early Maga crowds loved.
Yet, he was still losing to Hillary - until Russian interference brought up her so-called emails...
A total lie that cost Hillary the White House!
That's why the Rapist Con Man thinks he can lie his way thru his unearned political life.
When he tried his usual lies & illegal tactics - it led to his election loss & the Capitol attack.
Fast forward to today & his Project 2025 cronies are already altering the U.S. voting system in a multi-front attack to steal your votes...
Be Vigilant!
Report any problems with your voter registration or certification to the local Democratic office & they will pass it on to the correct officials.
Don't let some criminal fools steal our rights & help preserve our free nation.
End?
