Sooo... has anyone ever gotten into a series (video game, TV show, book, whatever) before, somewhat dropped out of it or something along those lines, and then got back into but, like, ten tines more obsessed? Because that kind of just happened to us...
Seriously, when we first heard of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, we were like, "oh, cool! Final Fantasy! We remember playing one of the games when we were young! This one seems cool... don't know anything about it, but it seems neat." So we had pre-ordered it. When we were able to get it, we played it for a bit on and off, before kind of... forgetting about it. We didn't forget the series entirely, no. We still occasionally went online and found stuff about the game, we just... stopped playing for some reason. And then we got the Crisis Core Reunion and played that for a bit before roughly the same thing happened. And we stopped playing either game altogether for bit, but still looked things up online about the series to learn about some characters.
And then it hit us like gosh darn freight train. Like, really freaking hard. All of a sudden we want to play through the games. We literally have 22 posters now that we got today and covered the area of walls by our bed with. Don't know what caused it at all, but uh... there might be some FFVII related stuff being posted by us soon if we feel confident in our abilities to draw humans-

Final Fantasy Record Keeper Japan Current Progress Part 2
After finishing more missions in the Books of Trials, I was able to obtain a few more Realm/Elemental x 11 Tickets in the Japanese version of the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (#ad) (FFRK) mobile game.
Tumblr media
You can use this Ticket to draw on any one of the available Realm or Elemental banners. You get 11 items per pull. One of the relics you’ll get is guaranteed to be of 5-star or higher rarity.
In the English version of the game, you can also get one of these Tickets every 15 days as a login reward. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case in the Japanese version. So it took me a while before I managed to acquire more Tickets.
Final Fantasy VII D450 Torment Dungeon
At the moment, I’m trying to complete the Final Fantasy VII D450 Torment Dungeon, which was all the more reason for me to use my tickets on the Final Fantasy VII Realm banner.
Currently, the team I’m using is:
Genesis Rhapsodos (from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core)
Cloud Strife
Sephiroth
Elarra (from Final Fantasy Record Keeper)
For the 5th member, I’m alternating between Angeal Hewley (from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core) and Aeris or Aerith Gainsborough.
Genesis is equipped with the following Soul Breaks:
Synchro Arcane Soul Break (SASB), Purgatorial Wave
Limit Break Over Flow, Light of Rapture
Awakened Arcane Soul Break (AASB), Genesis Rhapsody
Flash Tech Soul Break+, Epic of Heroes
Flash Tech Soul Break, Epic of Destruction
Ultra Soul Break, Apocalypse Genesis
Tumblr media
Cloud only has his Ultra Cross Slash Soul Break while Sephiroth has his Sync, Demonic Lord. Elarra has her Flash+, Magika Amuletum, and her Ultra Soul Break, Magika Album. Angeal has his Ultra, Idle Rage, while I have nothing for Aeris except her default Soul Break, which is terrible and not worth using.
They’re equipped with the following abilities:
Genesis - Inferno Assault, Blastspell Strike
Cloud - Tornado Strike, Raging Quadstrike
Elarra - Valigarmanda, Passionate Salsa
Sephiroth - Demon’s Cross, Dread Weapon
Angeal and Aerith are really only here to spam the move that Dispels because Jenova, the enemy, likes to buff herself a lot.
I’m having a hard time because Jenova deals a lot of damage and she has 2 minions with her who also hit hard. It doesn’t help that I don’t have a lot of good Accessories or relics yet since this is a very new account.
I only started playing the Japanese version during the event that introduced new weapons for Genesis. That’s because he’s currently my absolute, most favorite Final Fantasy character. So, yeah, he’s the only reason why I’m playing both versions of this game.
Final Fantasy VII Realm Banner
I’m really hoping to get some healing relics, particularly Aerith’s Awakened Arcane Soul Break and/or Ultra Soul Break. I wouldn’t say no to her Sync either though that might be hoping for too much considering the lousy rates in this game. It’s even worse for this banner as can be seen in the screenshot below:
Tumblr media
Still, even if the chance to get a Sync here is basically nonexistent, and you’d need a miracle to even be able to get one, well, never say never because minuscule though it may be, the rate isn’t actually zero, and it is possible to obtain a Sync on this banner. I should know because, somehow, I actually managed to get one. Yeah, am still reeling from that miracle. It’s probably not gonna happen again anytime soon, but, hey, one can hope, right?
Anyway, right now, I’d settle for an FFVII Soul Break that can heal. I feel that surviving is my main issue in trying to beat the Final Fantasy VII D450 Torment Dungeon. I could really use some form of Last Stand. I’d love to get Aerith’s Glint+ (these are known as Flash+ in the Japanese version of FFRK) too since that instantly gives the party Protect (raises Defense), Shell (raises Resistance), and Haste (makes everyone move faster). I already have Elarra’s Glint+, which does the exact same thing, but I’m definitely not gonna say no to getting Aerith’s as well.
Okay, I know I’m asking for too much. There’s no way I’m gonna be able to get Aerith’s stuff just ‘cause I want to have them. I mean, there are so many different relics on this banner, and the rates are so low, so the odds of getting what I want are slim to none. Still, I’m hoping I can at least get something that can be of use to me.
Final Fantasy VII Realm Banner Ticket 1
The first Ticket gave me 2 disco orbs and 1 rainbow orb. Here’s to hoping one of these can be helpful in my quest to defeat Jenova.
The rainbow orb turned into Rubber Suit (VII-DoC), a 5-star rarity, Light Armor-type relic that gave me Shelke Rui’s (Shelke the Transparent from Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus) Legend Materia Relic, Shaper of Fate. It gives a small chance for Celerity abilities to trigger twice. Meh. This is my first relic for her, so it’s useless.
Tumblr media
The first disco orb turned into Cloudy Wolf (VII), a 6-star rarity, Light Armor-type relic that gave me Cloud Strife’s Ultra Soul Break, Darkpetal Bloom. It has the following effect:
“Deal ten physical dark and non-elemental attacks to one target, temporarily infuse the user with the power of the dark, temporarily grant one additional rank of Heavy Charge when the user gains a rank of Heavy Charge, and cause the user's dark abilities to trigger the follow-up ability Dark Vengeance, dealing four physical dark and non-elemental attacks to one target. Dark Vengeance can break the damage cap.”
Tumblr media
Not bad. However, Cloud’s Ultra Cross Slash is way better than this. And the whole Heavy Charge thing is confusing. I guess it’s ‘cause I haven’t used any abilities with that mechanic yet.
Anyway, the second and final disco orb turned into Anonymous Blade (VII), a 6-star rarity, Katana-type relic that gave me Cloud’s Flash+, Jenova Cell Power. It temporarily grants Cloud Empowered Infusion for dark and removes delay from his actions for one turn.
Tumblr media
If not a healing relic, then I’d prefer to get a Soul Break that can deal damage. Still, I guess this isn’t that bad. At the very least, it does have some synergy with Cloud’s Ultra Cross Slash since that one deals wind and dark damage.
All the relics I got on this draw are new and I even got 3 golds, which is great, and I’m really glad about that. Nevertheless, I can’t help being a bit disappointed that I didn’t get a single healing relic. Sigh. Looks like it was too much to hope for, huh?
Tumblr media
Final Fantasy VII Realm Banner Ticket 2
This is gonna be my last Ticket for now since I’ll need to complete more missions from the Books of Trials in order to get more. Hopefully, I can get more Tickets soon. And hopefully, this draw will give me something good. Right then. Here goes nothing. Fingers crossed. Okay, two disco orbs showed up. Please be good. Please be good.
The first disco orb revealed itself to be Winchester R (VII), a 6-star rarity, Gun-type relic that gave me Rufus Shinra’s Ultra Soul Break, Mako Cannon.
Tumblr media
It deals ranged physical dark and non-elemental attacks, temporarily lowers the dark resistance level (also known as Imperil) of enemies by 2, and causes every second dark ability Rufus uses to trigger the follow-up ability Dark Ray, which deals ranged physical dark and non-elemental damage and temporarily lowers an enemy’s dark resistance level by 1.
This is my first relic- no, wait. Whoops, almost forgot. I also have Rufus’s Legend Materia Relic, which  gives him a “moderate chance” to reduce the delay of his actions for one turn when a dark ability triggers. Looks like it combos pretty well with his Ultra. The Imperil effect from Mako Cannon is good too.
As for the second and final disco orb - well, I had to stare at the screen for a while when the relic was finally revealed.
Tumblr media
That looks like a Wand or Rod, right? Could this belong to Aerith? Please tell me this belongs to her. I’m trying to remember what her Awakening looks like (have it on my English account). Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure this is not her Awakening. I can only hope that this is something that belongs to her.
Time for the moment of truth. I tapped the “Congratulations” screen to get to the relic draw results screen and - OMFG! *Speechless* Seriously, I have no words for this. Oh, god, this is a miracle, isn’t it? I mean, really, what are the odds that I’d actually get one of the relics I was hoping to get?
Tumblr media
Healing Rod (VII) is a 6-star rarity, Rod-type relic that gave me Aerith’s Ultra Soul Break, Innocent Cure. Its effect is:
“Instantly restore a large amount of HP to all allies, reduce delay of their physical attacks for three turns, and grant them Last Stand.”
Hell, yes! Thank you, thank you. Oh, man, can’t stop smiling. So freaking happy about this. Also, did I mention that Genesis, Cloud, and Sephiroth deal physical attacks?
Tumblr media
Final Fantasy VII D450 Torment Dungeon
I had Aerith leveled to 99 already, but I hadn’t bothered to complete her Record Spheres since I didn’t have a single relic for her. Now that I have her Ultra, I readily completed her 3, 4, and 5-star Record Spheres.
Then I went back to trying the Final Fantasy VII D450 Torment Dungeon. After a couple more tries and switching abilities and Record Materia and the like around, I somehow managed to win on auto. Took way more than 30 seconds, but definitely not complaining.
I’ll gladly take the victory and the rewards. I’m really freaking happy about this. Obviously, there’s still a lot of room to grow with this team and much improvements to be made, but I’m just glad I was able to do it now.
Tumblr media
I’ll definitely keep working on trying to improve this team though. For one thing, even though Cloud and Sephiroth have over 800+ Attack under Realm Synergy, they’re still unable to consistently break the damage cap even after casting their Soul Breaks. More often than not, they still hit like wet noodles, which is hella frustrating since it’s just making the fight last longer. The longer the battle rages on, the worse it gets because Jenova and her minions just get even more dangerous and harder to deal with.
Having Aerith’s Ultra definitely helps since it gives everyone Last Stand so my team can survive at least one fatal attack. Increasing Elarra’s Mind some more so she can restore more HP and have the effects of her Regenga via casting her Ultra last much longer definitely helps as well.
Genesis can break the damage cap after casting his Sync though it’s not always consistently 19999. I think I’m gonna need to drop Cloud and replace him with a buffer to further boost Genesis’s and Sephiroth’s attacks. If I can get my chars to consistently break the damage cap, that would go a long way in making this fight much easier.
3-star Magicite Dungeons
I’ve also completed all of the 3-star Magicite Dungeons. Well, this happened way back, even before I attempted any of the Torment Dungeons and back when I didn’t even have Elarra’s Magika Amuletum so I had to bring the Hastega, Protectga, and Shellga abilities. Having Elarra’s Flash+ really opened up a lot of options for me since it allowed me to drop the aforementioned abilities in favor of bringing other useful skills.
4-star Magicite Dungeons
I’ve completed a few of these, but haven’t finished all of them yet. So far, I’m still missing the Lightning, Water, Fire, Dark, and Holy 4-star Magicites. Now that I have Elarra’s Flash+ and even Aerith’s Ultra, these fights will hopefully be easier to deal with even if I’m trying to beat them with an element they’re resistant to.
Yeah, that’s what I did with the 3-star Magicites. I used Genesis as my main DPS. His primary element is fire, so he only dealt weakness damage against the Ice boss since all the other bosses resisted the elements they were not weak to.
For the few 4-stars that I’ve already completed, I also used Genesis. I plan to do the same for the remaining 4-star Magicites. Hopefully, the new Soul Breaks I’d obtained from my recent draws will help me with that.
5-star Magicite Dungeons
To my surprise, I was able to unlock the 5-star Ice Magicite Dungeon after beating both the 3-star and 4-star Ice bosses. This didn’t happen at all in my English account. AFAIK, you’re supposed to beat all the 3-stars and 4-stars first before being able to unlock the 5-stars. Definitely not complaining though since there are some limited rewards locked behind these 5-star fights. At least, you didn’t have to win to get the rewards, so I readily auto-ed these fights and took the loss.
Back then, I knew there was no way for me to win. I had to waste a few turns just casting Protectga, Shellga, and Hastega. A lot of my chars don’t even have all of their Record Spheres, much less their Record Boards since I lack the resources required to complete these.
Thankfully, things are much better now. My current main team has all of their Record Spheres already. I’ve started on their Record Boards, but it’s much harder to get the 6-star Motes needed to unlock the tiles on these Boards, so I still have a long way to go before I finish these. However, what little I’ve unlocked has already helped a lot, especially in the case of my fave.
As can be expected, Genesis has the most tiles unlocked. And I am super pleased to say that he now gets over 1,000 Attack even without being under Realm Synergy. Hell, yeah!
Tumblr media
You know, I was debating on whether to get Elarra’s Flash+ or not. It’s available for purchase on the The Record Lab, but it costs 2,000 Anima Lens Level 3. It’s not like I’m swimming in these Lenses so I was reluctant to spend them. In the end, I decided to go for it, and all I can say is, no regrets. It was worth it. Completely and totally worth it.
Tumblr media
Having Elarra’s Magika Amuletum is super special awesome, especially when combined with her Magika Album. It definitely helped me get further in the fight against Mateus, the 5-star Ice Magicite boss.
After tweaking my team some more, moving abilities and Record Materia around as well as powering them up some more, I finally managed to win against Mateus. Hell, yes! Thank you, thank you. This is my first 5-star Magicite victory. Yay! I haven’t even managed this in my English account since I’m still stuck on the 4-stars there. The last one I need to beat there is the 4-star Dark boss before the 5-stars can finally be unlocked.
Anyway, I tried the Mateus fight again and promptly lost. Welp. How in the world did I manage to win the first time? I have no idea. Definitely need to tinker with this team some more. I’ve tried again a few more times after the usual moving things around bit and - it’s really inconsistent. Sometimes, I win. Sometimes, I don’t.
Tumblr media
I even have to switch party members around like putting them in different slots because the AI does dumb things like getting Elarra to summon my Final Fantasy VII Historia Crystal instead of casting her Magika Amuletum. I remember one run where I was so close to winning. Genesis had just activated his Sync, so he was breaking the damage cap and dealing a huge amount of damage to Mateus every time he moved. And then the AI gets him to summon Fabula Guardian instead of having someone else do it. This eventually led to me losing.
That was really frustrating. It’s what started me moving them all around, trying to figure out the optimal placement for them. I think there’s no rhyme or reason to this though. I mean, if there is one, then I haven’t figured it out yet. The AI is just dumb. I mean, I usually have Genesis on the first or leader spot. That usually means he’s the one casting the Historia Crystal or Fabula Guardian, so I’ve tried moving him elsewhere, but there are times when he’s still the one to cast those anyway, which is just plain annoying. Like I want to shake the AI and be like, come on, could you let my DPS attack and let the supports do the supporting?
Still, I’m just glad I was able to do it even if it’s still inconsistent. Definitely something I’ll keep working on. Besides, like I said, there’s still lots of room for improvement and growth here. I haven’t even given everyone their Crystal Waters yet. And their Boards aren’t finished either. So, yeah, there’s still lots to do here, and this is definitely gonna take a while, considering the necessary resources are pretty hard to come by and a lot is locked behind difficult content.

My Thoughts on FFVIIR
It’s been a few days since I finished FFVIIR, and I wanted to put my thoughts on the game into words, but I gotta get a few housekeeping things out of the way.
1.       These are all MY opinions. I understand and respect that others may have different opinions from me, however, that does not make this an open invitation for argument in the comments, bashing, etc. I have no problem blocking anyone who wants to be an asshole. Just be nice, please.
2.       I grew up playing FFVII and all of its spin-offs. FFVII was my first RPG, and ultimately what got me into playing video games. Nostalgia is a -huge- part of why I enjoyed FFVIIR so much, and therefore I am openly biased towards the game. I’m interested to hear the thoughts of people not familiar with the original, because they’re seeing the story with a fresh set of eyes.
3.       With that being said, I’ve already noticed drama surrounding FFVIIR fans who -have- played the original vs. those who haven’t, or those who haven’t played Crisis Core, etc. I am firmly of the belief that this is a great game for new and old fans and won’t tolerate any condescending attitudes in either direction. Video games are supposed to be fun, so let’s just all agree to enjoy the thing TOGETHER, shall we?
Alright, now that those things are out of the way, onto my thoughts. **MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD**
I’m going to be breaking this up into sections, because there is just too much to dissect! Let’s start with the characters.
“The Good Guys”
Cloud: Still my favorite character of all time, even more so after playing the remake. And of course, he is gorgeous. I could stare into his eyes all day. I know there has been a lot of controversy over getting new voice actors for the remake, but I feel like his VA did a great job. They nailed his personality of “broody asshole with a heart of gold”, and I think the remake had reasonable and believable character development when it came to Cloud’s interactions with the other party members. His dynamic with Tifa, Aerith, and Barrett was also spot on. I think it was a good move on Squeenix’s part to keep him pretty much the same, because he’s such an iconic character for the entire Final Fantasy series, so no complaints on my part!
Jessie: Okay, so, I hated Jessie at first. She was too flirty and all over Cloud for my liking, and I felt this strange disconnect between the “I used to be an actress but now I’m fighting for the planet” part of her backstory. Yes, she was still spunky in the original, but they didn’t draw it out nearly as much (I assume because she was killed off early). I -do- appreciate that the developer’s felt the need to give her more depth and show more interactions between her and Cloud and everyone else, but I also thought it detracted from Cloud’s relationships with Tifa and Aerith to an extent, especially the whole scene where she was asking him to come back to her place with him (yikes). And, true to Squeenix form, they killed off her character, even while letting Biggs and Wedge live (they both died in the original). So, in that sense, I didn’t really care that much for her, although her final scene with Cloud was very moving and redeemed her in some ways for me. So, yay for more screen time, but c’mon Squeenix, why do you gotta use your female characters this way?!
Biggs & Wedge: I loved the updates to their character models, and like with Jessie, I appreciate they tried to give them more depth and dialogue to make their involvement more significant. It did throw me for a loop when they both ended up living instead of dying when the Sector 7 plate fell. I was delighted to discover they survived (until I found out Jessie died and they didn’t). At times, I felt like their exalted importance detracted from other characters, especially at the end in Shinra HQ where Wedge shows up to warn everyone and Avalanche comes in to try and rescue Cloud & the gang, only to imply that he dies -there- instead. To me, it felt like an unnecessary moment to add in, but hey, there are only so many characters in the remake that people get to see, so why not give the Avalanche crew a more important role? I’m interested to see if this means that they’ll be returning in the next installments as they may be ‘fated’ to survive.
Barrett: What a glow up! Barrett looked good, he sounded good, his character was solid and true to the original. I have to say my favorite thing to see was how the banter and dialogue shifted between him and Cloud as you progressed through the remake. They went from basically hating on each other to complimenting each other and being buddy-buddy, and it was truly heartwarming. I even enjoyed using Barrett in battle (more on the fighting system later), which was refreshing. It was a good move on Squeenix’s part to show his softer side by including more scenes with Marlene, and he’s an excellent foil to Cloud’s character, which I feel was consistent for both games.
Tifa: My lady, the love of my life, my HERO. Tifa was -amazing- for me. Also, her VA was probably my favorite of the bunch. The updates to her outfit were much needed, yet she still retained her sexy allure, even if it was a little awkward to hear all the male NPC’s talking about how hot she was all the time. Other than Cloud, she was my favorite party member to use in battle—what a total badass!—and the scenes with her and Cloud made me squeal with delight. I was grateful for the extra attention put into their relationship, and how it was made clear that she was just as important and strong as the male characters.
Aerith: First, the positives. They expanded Aerith’s fighting range, which was appreciated, because in the original I only used her as healer. Her personality shone through a bit more, as she was even ore outgoing than I remembered her being (and even cursed a few times!), and I loved all of her interactions with Tifa and Cloud (my favorite trio/love triangle). Her backstory was pretty well communicated regarding the Ancients and her relationship with Shinra. On the flip side of things, I found her party banter annoying as hell and her voice grating at times (it reminded me of a high school girl), and I’m not sure how I feel about her interactions with the Whispers and what that implies for future installments. There was some hinting at the end of the remake that Aerith may not die like she did in the original (at least that was my interpretation), and I’m not sure whether I like that possibility or not, mainly because Aerith’s death is one of the most memorable scenes of FFVII, and that would change the entire plot. For better or for worse, who’s to say?
Red XIII: I loved all of the scenes with Red! His voice fit him really well, and they showed a lot of character development with him and the group in a short amount of time. I was sad you couldn’t control him in your party, but I’m hoping that will change in the next installment. I’m excited to see his backstory in Cosmo Canyon when we finally get to that point in the remake.
Chadley: This kid was annoying and weird, and I wasn’t sure exactly what his deal was, but he was definitely shady AF. Not sure why he was entirely necessary if he was simply a way to upgrade your materia, but hey, I’ll take that assess materia from ya buddy if it means new stuff for me to use.
Johnny: Johnny grew on me. Was he also annoying and weird too? Yes. But he reminded me of a Prompto-Gladio lovechild and turned out to be a sweetheart, so I say he can stay, Squeenix.
“The Bad Guys”
Shinra executives: Not much to say here for me other than great job in bringing this diabolic group to life. Yep, still hate every one of ‘em. They stayed pretty much true to their original selves, and all of them matched what I remembered of them, right down to the dialogue. I thought it was an interesting choice to see Sephiroth kill President Shinra (in the original you just find him dead at his desk, impaled on Sephiroth’s sword), but I’m not complaining. That guy was a grade A asshole.
The Turks: Love, love, love how they portrayed each of these guys, and showed how they are also unwilling participants in all of Shinra’s shit. They definitely made them more likeable from the get-go and I felt a lot of callbacks to Advent Children. Reno cursing and being sassy was probably one of my favorite things out of the entire game. He had -so- many great lines, even if they weren’t direct translations of the Japanese. I’m hoping they will include more of the Turks in future installments (like Cissnei in Crisis Core) and continue fleshing out their story arcs.
Rosche: Okay, unpopular opinion, but I did not like this guy at all. I’m not sure what the hype is about him all over my social media. Could be the mullet, which is an automatic ‘no’ for me (Gladio from FFXV being the only exception), but he seemed like an irritating and very pointless addition to the game. His sole purpose appeared to be to prepare you for escaping Shinra and fighting from Cloud’s motorcycle towards the end, but I felt like he could have been taken out of the story entirely without missing anything. I didn’t hate as many of the newer characters (like Leslie) as much as I did him, but I guess he and I just didn’t vibe. I’m assuming he’ll return later on, so maybe my opinion will change. (I sure hope so.)
Leslie: Okay, at first, I was like, “who is this knock-off Noctis wannabe?” but I really enjoyed the backstory and depth they gave this seemingly minor character. I see that Squeenix is trying to provide new things for older fans to take interest in, and in this case, I felt he was a nice touch. (Edit: I was told that Leslie, Kyrie, and some of the other new NPCs were featured in an audio book?! Which I had no idea even existed, so...the more you know!)
Don Corneo: Even slimier and creepier in HD! Honestly, hats off to Squeenix for translating what was possibly the most cringy and controversial part of the original in a ‘tasteful’ way in regard to all of Wall Market. This guy was definitely a worthy villain in the remake.
Rufus: Holy hell. I never ever in my life thought I’d be saying this, but wow, is Rufus hotter than I remember. Thank you, Squeenix for giving me another foxy bad boy to drool over. He was also, for me, the hardest and most frustrating boss battle (even more so than Sephiroth), but it was totally worth dying to watch all the cut scenes with him over again. Can’t wait to see more of him in the next installment.
Hojo: God, I hate this guy. I know you’re -supposed- to, but he is such a creep. Hearing his dialogue in the remake was even worse than reading it in the original. Gotta say, dealing with his four wards in Shinra HQ was my least favorite part of the game by far, but I know he will get his comeuppance later down the road. All the dialogue was just as shocking as I remember, so, yeah. Good job?!
Sephiroth: Alright, anyone else feel like they made Sephiroth EXTRA SEXUAL in this remake?! You too? Oh, good, good, same bro. Now, it could just be me projecting, but anytime he came on the screen…panties were dropping y’all. Of course, I’m not one to complain about Sephiroth content. On the contrary, I lap it up like I just walked through the desert and found an oasis, BUT, I will say this…you barely see Sephiroth at all at this point in the original. As a reminder, the remake only covered the first 4-6 hours of the original game, and I get you can’t really do a remake without at least SHOWING Sephiroth for the people who have been waiting to see him in HD, but with that being said, he was VERY involved. I love Sephiroth, he’s a great villain, but they are definitely changing things with him, so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
My one criticism? His voice was my least favorite out of the main characters. Not saying the VA didn’t do a great job, but it didn’t sound deep enough to be as intimidating. I prefer the VA who voiced him in Advent Children, but I’m sure it will grow on me in time.
Gameplay
Battle system: When the remake’s demo was released, I remember a lot of people were complaining about how ‘difficult’ the new battle system was, but I absolutely love it. It’s just the perfect balance of turn-based and real-time, with plenty of options for customization. If you want more real time, you can set your short cuts, and if you want more turn-based, you also have that option. My only real complaint was that item use is also tied to the ATB bar, but overtime I figured out when to heal myself in a timely fashion (after dying more than a handful of times). Button mashers won’t enjoy this battle system because it requires a little more strategy, but I think the point was to create an updated version of the original fighting style that would appeal to both old and new players, and it definitely delivered. Seeing the classic limit breaks used and being able to run around during battle was so much fun for me, and I about died when I saw Cloud strike his OG victory pose in Wall Market’s coliseum. Also, the transition between running through Midgar and entering battle was SO incredibly smooth and seamless that at times you didn’t notice the shift. Phenomenal.
o   Boss Battles: As much as I enjoyed the battle system of remake, some of the bosses felt unnecessarily hard and/or tedious (I’m looking at you, Hell House). Making use of the assess materia early on definitely helped me out, but I legit got bored at times, especially that damn giant robot you fight with only Barrett and Aerith when escaping Shinra HQ. This is really just a minor complaint, but there were a couple bosses where I died several times (*cough* Rufus *cough*) before I figured out the secret to defeating them, while others were super easy or just not that interesting. Meh. For context, I played on “normal” mode, but it truly felt hard in certain scenarios. (That could just have been me trying to get used to the new fighting style.)
o   Materia: speaking of materia, I did notice some new materia in the game, which was neat, and although I didn’t care for Chadley (dude, where are your parents?) it was nice to have a way to develop and earn new materia throughout. I found it somewhat strange that summon materia was just a thing you could get so early on instead of having to work for it, but I was excited to use it. Shiva and Ifrit were definitely my favorite summons (which hasn’t changed from the original for me). My one big question: where is the freaking all’ materia?! I know they kinda split ‘all’ up into many different types of materia, and you do have ‘pray’ for healing your entire party, but man, that was so versatile in the original so that was a hard adjustment for me not to have use of it.
o   Weapons: I think it’s cool that they developed an upgrade system to make use of your weapons long term, giving them their own abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Made me think of FFX where you used the spheres to upgrade your characters. Also? I loved being able to see materia in my weapons when I switched them out. That was a really neat touch.
Music: And here I thought they couldn’t make the music of the original game any more epic, but they definitely outdid themselves in the remake. I enjoyed hearing all the remixes and ways they wove the classic themes into different parts of the games. I think my favorite was when you’re going through sector 5 with Aerith and have to control the giant robotic hands. The music in that section SLAPPED. The in-game jukebox was also a nice way to honor the old school classics. Hearing Aerith’s theme for the first time just about made me cry, and listening to One-Winged Angel fighting Sephiroth? Nothing could beat that moment musically for me.
Side quests: I’m not sure about anyone else, but I really didn’t care for the side quests. They weren’t very fun for the most part, and considering how linear the game is, they felt more like chores that needed to be completed because I had to, and not because I wanted to. The only exception was Wall Market, but all-in-all, most of them didn’t add much to the story, unlike in FFXV where I could go down a rabbit hole of sidequests for hours and hours.
Graphics: This is clearly stating the obvious, as anyone with eyes will tell you, the game is nothing short of gorgeous. I cannot tell you how many screencaps I took of just Cloud. It was definitely a world that I wanted to run around in for hours (and did) and will do so again and again just to look at all the little details. My favorite thing to do is watch comparison videos of the original and remake openings side-by-side. How crazy is it that technology has come this far!
Playtime: My biggest critique of this game is that it was too damn short. Stretching the first 4-6 hours of the original into 40 was definitely impressive, but considering I waited 20+ years for the remake, it was pretty disappointing to finish the game in less than a week. Like most people, I’m wondering just how long they plan on stretching this out, how many installments there will be, and when the second part will be released. Hopefully not another ten years, but it -is- Squeenix we’re talking about...
Storyline
Most people who played will tell you that most of the remake stayed very true to the original, even lifting some of the exact dialogue and scenes. The nostalgia hit me so hard in parts that I was literally in tears. The first time I watched the opening in the demo, I cried. That’s the power this game has over many people, including myself.
In other ways, the remake improved on parts of the story or re-imagined them. We always knew it wasn’t going to be a copy and paste of the original story, which I’m sincerely grateful for. I would seriously hope that after 20+ years they would have thought of ways to improve or polish FFVII and make it new and exciting for returning fans and people just picking it up.
My pros regarding the updates in the story:
- They fleshed out many background characters and added in new ones. Most of the core group spent more time interacting, and the party banter felt natural and progressed realistically as the game went on.
- New mini-games and side quests expanded on the slums and made the areas larger and more interactive, yet they still kept the nostalgia of iconic locales.
- Plenty of fuel to fan shipping fires with emotionally charged scenes and pretty boys abounding (Cloti and Clerith especially).
- All of Wall Market was brilliantly done. I was wondering how they’d update it for the new generation, and it was seriously the best part of the game for me (and had me laughing the entire time).
-  Hinting that Zack is alive and/or Aerith may live is something I’m listing as a pro, only because I would love to see these characters used to their full potential, however, this is also a con for me, and I’ll explain why.
My cons:
Whispers: If you played the original, you probably had the same reaction as I did when the ‘Whispers’ showed up. “Wtf are these dementor-looking things?” At first, I thought they might be something similar to what we saw in Advent Children, and that they were ‘remnants’ or parts of Sephiroth, or somehow his minions, or even souls from the Lifestream, etc. When I found out they were actually supposed to be ‘protectors of fate’ or whatever, I rolled my eyes, especially when Barret was ‘killed’ by Sephiroth and then miraculously brought back to life. It felt very ‘deus ex machina’ to me in the sense that ‘everything has to go a certain way because we said so.’ While it makes sense, I really wasn’t buying it, but I’m assuming that we will learn more about them in the second installment.
The Ending: The whole final boss battle of the remake was surprising, because it felt almost exactly like the final boss bottle of the original game, right down to the cutscene where Cloud is thrown through space and faces off against Sephiroth one-on-one. Before you defeat the ‘harbinger of fate’ (anyone else get KH heartless vibes?) and fight Sephiroth as the final boss, Aerith goes on her long spiel about ‘fate’ and ‘destiny’ and ‘this will change us,’ and it’s laid on so thick that it’s almost like they were setting us up for an alternate timeline, which is entirely possible, but that’s all speculation at this point. Regardless, they made it clear that whatever is coming next is going to be -very- different from the original, or possibly is going to be another timeline of the story, especially since Zack was shown alive and well. One criticism I heard from someone who hadn’t played the original game was that they treated Sephiroth and Zack like people you were supposed to know, and I can agree with that. They didn’t spend -any- time explaining their significance, backstory, or why people were so afraid of Sephiroth other than showing you little flashbacks into Cloud’s deranged memories, so in that sense, the ending might have fallen flat for those who don’t know exactly what Sephiroth represents or who he is, or why he stole Jenova from Hojo’s lab, etc, etc. Plus, throwing in Zack at the end is something that anyone who played the original game or Crisis Core would get, but new fans would also not understand the significance of. Personally, I screamed when I saw Zack because I was so happy , but I can see why that ending would be very unsatisfying and/or confusing for some.
Overall: 9/10
No, it doesn’t get a 10/10 for me, even as someone who absolutely loves Final Fantasy VII, but hey, no game is perfect. It’s honestly hard to live up to the hype this game has created since it was officially announced, and all things considered, Squeenix -did- live up to it. I will still be eagerly awaiting part two, playing the shit out of this game and squeezing the most I can out of it until I get to experience more.
I’d love to hear what other people thought (so long as the discourse is respectful of course). If you read this far, thanks for listening to my ramblings!

Probably my Guess sneakers. I don’t wear them often, but I love the design.

Lots of acquaintances or a handful of close friends?
I love having a large circle, but I choose my best friends wisely. I only have about two or three of those and they’re the one’s I keep close to my heart.
Something that ruins your appetite?
This is a bit more dark, but my dad and I don’t bond outside video games. And he’s the type that believes it’s his way or no way no matter what. So if you get him angry he acts like a two-year-old who just got a toy taken away, and will try to push your buttons until you’re the same way. I saw the signs years ago, but whenever his anger is targeted at me I just don’t want to eat. I write instead.
Favorite labels about you?
As in names? It’s near 1 am while writing this so I might have just gone stupid. But I love it when my friends call me cutie. Or my good friend Charlie calls me Smarties. And he’ll pull out a smartie from his pocket when he does it. I also get called Reid, as in Spencer Reid, a lot.

Broccoli
Least favorite vegetable?

About a good three. First is salad. Second is fruit. Third is desert.
Favorite dessert?
Ice cream. Bubble gum flavor is my favorite!
Do you play any sports?
Nope.
Age you learned how to swim?
Seven or eight.
Tell a funny story.
Maybe this is just funny to me, but earlier today my cat was trying to lick her coat but she set her front paw on a piece of paper and anytime she bent over to lick herself she slid and she would have to readjust herself. She did this like four times before she decided to move.
What’s one interesting thing about your culture?
As someone who is a part of the Navajo tribe, something neat is the more fat you have on your bones the more people respect you because they believe you have money.
What’s one annoying thing about your culture?
We can’t touch cold-blooded animals. It’s said if you touch the scales of a snake, or even breath in the same air, you’ll get the same skin as them.
What job would you be terrible at?
Accounting. I can’t do math to save my freaking life.
Would you rather watch a TV show or a movie?
TV shows.
What’s your favorite compliment to give?
“Cute Outfit!” or “Love the Hair!” You have no idea how many people light up on either of these, male/female/nonbinary. Looking good is a happiness found across all the spectrums.
What’s your favorite compliment to receive?
“Cute hair.” Or “Love your makeup/nails.”
Has your opinion changed on something recently?
I can’t remember. Like I said, it’s close to bedtime where I’m at and boi, it’s hard to concentrate right now.
Do you always order the same thing at a restaurant or order something different each time?
I order the same.
What’s something you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t yet?
This sounds awful, but I’ve always wanted to try ecstasy. I have buddies who’ve taken it and say, if you do it right, the first time is pretty bomb.
If you could learn to do anything right now, what would it be?
Singing. I can’t carry a tune.
Favorite physical feature about yourself?
My eyes.
Least favorite physical feature about yourself?
My wide hip/waist ratio. If my waist was thinner I wouldn’t mind as much.
What’s one amazing thing you did that nobody was around to see?
OKAY. I scored a strike on Wii bowling while i was on the toilet one time. Two rooms away and not even looking at a screen. Just using my heart and determination and it was SUPER COOL AND I WISH PEOPLE COULD HAVE SEEN THOSE SKILLS.
If you could change your height, would you?
Yes. Everyone is a good foot taller than me. So I would most definitely want a few more inches.
What’s something you would rate 10/10?
Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Character concept for Sephiroth. The eyes, the height, the hair. WOW. In love.
Heels or flats?
Heels
What’s something you wish you had more knowledge about?
Politics. I want to get more involved but every time I do I get so confused.
Would you want to be famous?
I wouldn’t mind. But I value my private life.
What’s something you would get arrested for?
Well I already almost got arrested for eating tacos in a closed park at 3 am. So maybe that.
What’s your spirit animal?
A cat.
What’s the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to you?
The fact that I graduated high school. I was developing anxiety and literally had no idea what the frick was happening with me and no one told me what it was. So I ended up skipping loads of school for that reason.
Are you the type to have an organized mess, or no mess at all?
Organized mess. Or just a mess.
Do you tend to make decisions based on the past, present, or future?
The future.
Are you a planner or a more spontaneous person?
Planner. I hate when things are sprung on me last minute. I have to emotionally prep up before a social event so 5-10 business days are needed.
Thoughts on the oxford comma?
I was taught to use it, but it’s literally so useless? I found myself either not using it or just doing it on instinct. So in one story you could probably find multiple instances where I use it and where I don’t use it, maybe in the same paragraph. I just do whatever fits that moment I guess.
What do you hope never changes?
My squad. I love them to pieces and it would break my heart if at some point they’d want to split.
How would you celebrate your 100th birthday?
Something extremely dangerous like skydiving or zip lining across a canyon.

Steven Universe, Damian Wayne, Aerith Gainsborough
Alright here we go!!!! I’ll try!!!
Steven
favorite thing about them - Something I love about the show is we got to see him grow up! I love how far this kid has come and how his kindness has grown and matured with him!
least favorite thing about them- I don’t have much to dislike? I guess I didn’t like how lightly he took things in early seasons, but now I kinda wish he did......I dunno. It’s hard for me to dislike characters like him X’D
favorite line- Man why is this here, I’m so bad at remembering lines...ummmm: “Because dad, I can't stay a kid forever, when Connie grows up and becomes president what is that gonna make me? First Boy?!” aishfiuwehufi I just ran across this looking it up, CUTE. Also the porkchops> hotdogs line. Because yes. Profound and cute.
brOTP- ....man with all the gems....I really enjoy Steven with Garnet, and Lapis, and Pink Pearl....it’s hard to pick a fave! Top 3!
OTP- Stevonnie. Soooo cute.
nOTP- Uuuuuh with any of the gems, or....most everyone is a very different age from him, so uh. Yeah. No.
random headcanon- I bet Steven is weirdly good with alot of different instruments!
unpopular opinion- I feel like there’s a little too much angst on him lately in the fandom....like it was interesting at first but now it just makes me sad, y’know?
song i associate with them - Ummmm, idk, Go the Distance from Hercules??
favorite picture of them- gif time! Isn’t this cute?? He cling....
Tumblr media
Damian
favorite thing about them - The fact that he collects animals?? And that it’s key to his character development?? Good stuff. Also the juxtaposition of growing up a trained killer being so gentle with animals and going vegetarian...also that he draws....there are alot of good things about Damian.
least favorite thing about them- His very very very inconsistent writing, and how his development always gets like....rewound before it can get too far. It SUCKS. It’s what fanfic is for.
favorite line- Off the top of my head? “Alfred the cat is... my cat.” Dork.
brOTP- It was Dick and Dami’s relationship that REALLY got me into Batfam stuff tbh! I love seeing him with Jon too though, and Cass....
OTP- He’s so young, I can’t think of anyone I’d ship him with either regardless??
nOTP- Too many to name....especially not with any of the other batkids!!
random headcanon- ...I headcanon Damian as aro/ace. :>
unpopular opinion- I saw alot of Damian hate on my dash recently, and I just wanna say I really really like him. I don’t care if alot of his writing is crap. :T
song i associate with them- “Love Like You” by Rebecca Sugar, DEFINITELY.
favorite picture of them: SO MUCH FANART I wouldn’t feel good reposting. So. This is always a fave. ;v;
Tumblr media
Aerith
favorite thing about them- Her SPUNK. I was thrown for a loop when I played FF7, because man she’s funny. She’s all pretty and pink, and she can ALSO be pretty dang assertive and awesome! It’s a cool combo. Soft voice and iron will and all that.I did not know she was like that before playing. KH didn’t really get that across at all...?? (Then again I did play Crisis Core, but that was so long ago I guess I forgot)
least favorite thing about them- How she doesn’t have that personality much post-death or in KH! What’s with that??
favorite line- "Mine is special. It's good for absolutely nothing!" (referring to her White Materia) This girl, oh my goodness. (I’m looking these up btw)
brOTP- With RedXIII actually! I wanted to see more interactions for them!
OTP- Aerith/Zack ;;v;; Her with Cloud is cute too, but I played Crisis Core first and have been in the Zaerith camp ever since!
nOTP- Ummmmm...with either Sephiroth or...Hojo? I’ve seen that too and ughhhhh no.
random headcanon- She gets to live on in KH-verse. Yeah. Oh, and that Zack was the first to meet her in her FFVII death. OH, and I had some thoughts on what if Aer and Sephiroth met while really little growing up in the labs? So headcanon that their meeting in FF7 is not their first...she kinda recognizes him, but his mind is too far gone to recall anything by then.
unpopular opinion- Not sure!
song i associate with them: I was looking around, and “The Call” by Regina Spektor is really fitting as like...final thoughts/words toward the party, to Cloud in particular. ;v;
favorite picture of them: Tbh any gif from the remake??? SHE’S GORGEOUS. This one is especially cute though!

For the flower asks! anemone - in ten words or less, describe the dynamic between you and your f/o., buttercup - give an incorrect quote of you and your f/o., marigold - what is your favorite picture, video, and/or moment of your f/o?, and orchid - is your f/o also your favorite character from their respective media, or is it someone else? for anyone you'd like! (citrus-selfinserts)
Thanks for these asks, @citrus-selfinserts !
Source for Flower Themed Asks
anemone - in ten words or less, describe the dynamic between you and your f/o.
This was actually kinda hard for me to do. I've always struggled with keeping things short, ever since early elementary school, lol.
The dynamic between Seph and I is actually pretty weird and complex in my FFVII fanfic. So if it's alright, I decided to write the main-ish dynamic of my K H au!
Understanding love for each other despite seemingly having no hearts.
A supposed "no-heart" nobody, an embodiment of darkness, and a "rebel without a pulse"? These are the last things one would expect to love each other, lol. The funny thing is that Stubbs' "Rebel Without a Pulse" title literally means that his heart is dead/doesn't work anymore, yet he's instantly like the first one to understand/recognize his own love and feelings like a normal person.
buttercup - give an incorrect quote of you and your f/o.
Okay. I have, like, a HUGE list of incorrect quotes for me and the guys. Since it was so hard to pick just one, I instead picked four where each one sort of centers around one of my faves.
Sephiroth — Awkward
Andy: That’s it. You’re defeated.
Sephiroth: You forgot my secret weapon.
Sephiroth: The meteor will only be stopped if you kiss me.
Cloud & Andy: ……
Cloud: You know, you could have just asked him out instead of trying to destroy the planet–
Sephiroth: *sighs* I’m awkward, okay?
(I actually still have an incomplete comic of this particular quote. Don't know why I never finished it. I just didn't, lol. Probably should one day, tho.)
Cloud — No Survival Skills
Cloud: Sephiroth has no survival skills. His need to beat me has replaced them.
Andy: Pfft. That can't be true!
Cloud: Watch this.
Cloud: Hey, Sephiroth. Race you to the bottom of the stairs.
Sephiroth: *throws himself over the railing*
(I NEED to draw this one day, lol)
Monokuma — Gotta Blast
Andy: Hey, sorry to bother you but-
Monokuma: Let's get one thing clear. It doesn’t matter if I’m sitting in a class trial about to punish someone. You need me? I’m saying “gotta blast” while the Jimmy Neutron theme plays in the background and all my students stare in shock!
(Monokuma's a great friend, surprisingly.)
Stubbs — He Don't Bite
Cloud: Hey, how's it-
Stubbs: *growls*
Cloud: AH get your f*#king dog, dammit!
Andy: He don't bite.
Cloud: YES HE DO-
(Despite all odds, I actually imagine Cloud and Stubbs to be close buds. But this one really does make me laugh, especially after watching the video it's from.)
marigold - what is your favorite picture, video, and/or moment of your f/o?
Picking a favorite picture or video was admittedly too hard for me. So, I'll settle on just picking favorite moments for everyone.
Seph: Favorite moments? Seeing him in action. In other words, either the CGI cutscene fight in Crisis Core, or his fight with Cloud in Advent Children.
Cloud: One of my favorite moments of Cloud would have to be when he first rides a motorcycle in the original game and escapes Midgar. It was cool in the remake also, but something about the original was just more hype in my opinion.
Monokuma: Favorite moments for him definitely include any of his executions!
Stubbs: I love a lot of moments from him, but I think my favorite moment from Stubbs is his game's trailer honestly. The scene of him scaring the couple, eating the girl's brains, and stealing the car is just such a favorite of mine.
orchid - is your f/o also your favorite character from their respective media, or is it someone else?
For Everyone: Yes, all of them are indeed my favorite characters from their respective media. If someone were to ask me "who's your favorite FFVII character" I would shamelessly answer "Cloud & Sephiroth" like the most basic normie ever, lol. But I do really like Tifa, though. (This might sound kinda weird since I never talk about her, but I actually kinda see her as like a distant family friend, but not straight up exactly like an F/O. Here's the thing: I don't always imagine Cloud and Stubbs with me in my house and when I don't, I imagine that they're over at Tifa's place. Furthermore, I also ship Cloud and Tifa together romantically.) Anyways, the same goes for Danganronpa. Monokuma's my fave—a little basic, I know—which is kind of a shame since I'm sure so much thought goes into the other characters and their personalities/talents. As for Stubbs, he really is the best character from his game. Don't get me wrong, there's other characters I like (Stubbs' lover Maggie, Guidebot, Pumpbot, and all the other robots), but Stubbs himself is just too good, I love him.
Thank you again for the asks, and for reading my answers—which admittedly got a little lengthy at the end!
