Six workers, two shilling per diem, John Phillips mused. That equaled eightten pound sterling saved every month from using convicts instead of regular employees! What one could do with that much money...

But trouble was, John wouldn't have had those eightteen pounds in the first place. Pretty much none of his assets were liquid and the "saved up" money, too, didn't exist in the form of real coins.

But still, the man's mood had gotten considerably uplifted by thinking about that virtual money, so much that he gifted his new housekeeper an old hat and coat of his. After all, what was the point of being well off, if one didn't demonstrate that at every occasion?

Publicly visible and properly status-inducing occasions, that was. While the Phillips’ new servant had to look presentable, the same didn’t go for the five rejects.

John then introduced Gavin to all the chores that needed doing in and around the house, like feeding Loui, Dewey and Huey and cleaning their pen.

The pigs he was making his lifelihood from, John explained, were getting herded by Emma in the forest. This trio wasn't for selling or eating, but the girl's pets (and for emergencies...).

I hid a nanotrashcan in the bush to simulate leftovers getting fed to the pigs. Would have liked to hide it right inside the pigs, but a shrunken nanotrahscan still leaves a glow above them.

ok here's eightten facts they and their siblings are all visualisations of abstract ideas and eitghtten represents "the space between ending one thing and starting another". they're heavily associated with the (new) moon and although they don't hate rowdiness they're mostly a passive observer themselves and don't participate in things much because they're the stage between one change and the next

anyway adjacent fact........... Fujimi’s character concept (at least visually) being that of a bride and the distinction of her title being the Bride of Ashina instead of “Wife” even though both would be accurate as to why she has the title in the first place (and wife would be more accurate if not as cool sounding) is Important.

I think the best way I can describe it is in regards to the (modified) shiromuku she wears normally. It represents “purity”, yeah (as most “wedding dresses” are wont to do) but I’ve also heard that the visual representation there is to represent either 1. a blank slate to be “dyed” the new family’s colors or 2. a symbolic death before rebirth into the new family. The fact that she’s considered a Bride - something that (usually) happens only once and only for a day - for all time, is loaded for sure and a double edged sword definitely, but it also renders her a kind of blank slate? Not in the sense that she lacks personality or that she’s impressionable/usual blank slate type stuff?, but it’s like she’s on a precipice.  And, hm........ For the era, as a woman, her duty would be to her family before marriage, and then her husband and his family after marriage. But being “stuck�� in this “just before”, this state of being “undyed” she’s put in the only place conceptually she’s completely unshackled, and is given the freedom to remain there for all time

in some ways, i think she’s hope. but the kind of hope that’s despite everything else

middle sibling's name is eightten. blue's name was given by someone else orine picked it on a whim and eightten thought very long about it but in the end just settled for numbers they like. the meaning behind a name can be created after it is chosen.

He shifted his blade into his opposite hand and struck in the direction of the Mackan who had cast it. A scream of agony echoed into the night, but Keith was already spinning his blade into another, arm still numb. Wrong Mackan.

"Do not falter!" he heard the male Elder shout over the din of cries and howls as he tore through their ranks, black blade flashing under the moon. It was a dance. A dark, bloody dance as ichor sprayed and screams turned into music.
