Eggun-Our Ancestors Tree.
Before I begin there is no ancestral tree in hoodoo the tree it's self is not important but it is a place were people gathered to sing, dance, band place offerings.
One of the most important spirits you can work with besides your guardian spirits is working with your ancestors. Ancestors are the ones who have walked the path before you. They are the link between us and heaven; they should be the first you talk to before other spirits or deities.
What Are Eggun?
Eggun are spirits a direct blood line to us, they are your family members. They are NOT other spirits that you may or may not have with you or use like Native American Spirits, La Madama, Gypsy or any other spirits.
We all have ansestors/Eggun and we all can work with them. There is no “wrong way” to speak with them or work with them; but it is always good to have the guidance from an experience professional.
Where Can I Find A Eggun Tree? I think all states or counties may have one, it's a place that have the oldest tree, a tree that have seen a lot and holds significance to the people in the city.
Eggun tree a place for remembering your ancestors, where they sung songs, where they gathered, where they did there rituals and ceremony's, where they called on there spirits and left offering to them. Like the one we have in New Orleans it's a place where Africans and Haitians gathered so it's a place to leave offering to spirits/ deities.👇
An Eggun Tree in Congo Square where I'm from.
These trees are important not just to African spiritual practices but to witches, wiccans, pagans, folk practitioners all of us can use a ancestral tree.
What Offerings Should I Leave By the Tree? Really anything. Go to the store and just feel what pulls you in, what you pick is what they want.
For your altar. Place things that they might like.
Example Below you'll see offerings like gum, fruit, beans, money
You can create one in your home also, to build or set-up an area you can dedicate to them only. You can take a piece of the tree with you (don't cut a big chunk out)
(More on ancestral altar see that post)

We're so unconscious of what we do. Everyone is an #electric spark of #infinite potential at any & every given moment. Everything is #God whether we acknowledge this or not. Everything is an #offering of #energy (positive or negative), whether intended or not. Whether we #smoke, #burn #incense, & #candles, to praise & pray or just for the warm glow with-in our environment, we use #ancient items to get us in our intended mood. We dedicate time to focus certain days & moments to acknowledge [Enter Label Here] & learn about the different attributes & parables/true moral life hack stories; And/or we live everyday knowing every feeling, thought, & deed expresses aspects of Highest Self-consciousness who always feels God/Spirit/the YOUniverse, knowing all the while separation is a tricky ego trip of the mind. . When we find our own personal practices/rituals to feel SpiRitual, energy flows where our intentional focus goes & co-creates amazing experiences with beautiful Souls. The reciprocal #nature of relating is so fragile, magical, & powerful all at once. . "When two or three are gathered in my name there #IAm..." whether acknowledged or not. There is the infinite power multiplied. Asé. Amen. Ameen. It is so. WE ARE ONE. . Repost from @sirena__soul - In many #spiritual practices, the #Smoking #cigars is used in connection with the spiritual world...It’s highly used in #rituals, ceremonies and or spiritual seance or know in Spanish as *misa espiritual* to help connected with ancestors and #spirit #life...It is believed when something burns, it is surrendering its defined, solid, physical form and its spirit is being released to the air while the ash falls to enrich the earth. Spiritual shrine for your ancestors Boveda espiritual There are many way to set it up but for those that dont know what to do or how to set it up I have created a s-veda Espiritual + Shrines + Ancestor Altars A spiritual altar and an ancestor altar are known to be used interchangeably. In addition to a spiritual altar, I also have an ancestor altar which is slightly different in set up but used for similar purposes. An ancestor altar is set up on the floor/ground and in most traditions the ancestors essence is housed in a sort of walking stick where the energy of that ancestor is housed, known as Egguns. Where a spiritual altar is to elevate guardian angels, god’s appointed guardians, spirit guides and ancestors, an ancestor altar is used to ground your energy and a place of reverence and recognition. All shrines and altars are centers of elevation. Elevating your spirits and self to higher vibrations and projections. Offerings: An offering is a sort of sacrifice or connection you make with the entity or energy you have the altar set up for. For an ancestor altar you may want to set up things your ancestors liked. I place coffee, bread rum and many other basic items as offerings to the spirits. Offerings “feeds” or rather empowers the energy you’re working with. Sacrifices can come in many forms. You can give up a bad habit that is preventing you from elevating thus starving the lower self and feeding your purpose. Common types of offerings: OPTIONAL Food you cook (give as an offering to give thanks for providing food to your family) removed 3 days later Crystal, stones, gems: They carry vibrations you can charge at your altar and use. Liquor: Ever heard of wines and spirits? Liquor like many things has essence or spirits that enliven the ancestors and spirits. Bread: Symbol for abundance, life and the cosmic body. Flowers to bring life and new energy to your altar Photos symbols of the energy you work with. Prayers: Any prayer will do. Prayers are forms of offerings as you’re pouring yourself into the moment. BOOK RECOMMENDATION IS PATH OF OUR ANCESTORS https://www.instagram.com/p/B9sI8QBB-qQ/?igshid=2hgnfhpu8jzy

Shango
Shango is an Osha of the Head's Oshas group. Shango is one of the most popular Oshas of the Yoruba pantheon, great warrior, he is the king of the religion. Orisha of justice, the dance, the viril force, the thunderclaps, the rays and the fire, owner of the drums Wemileres, Ilú Batá or Bembés, of the dance and music; he represents the necessity and the joy to live, the intensity of the life, the masculine beauty, the passion, intelligence and the wealth. He is the owner of the religious system of Osha-Ifá. He represents the greater number of favorable and unfavorable situations. He was the first owner and interpreter of the Ifa's oracle, is fortune teller and interpreter of the Diloggún's oracle and the Biange and Aditoto. Shango represents and has a special relation with the world of the Eggun.
Shango was the 4th Alafín (king) of Òyó, this is the second dynasty of Oduduwa after the destruction of Katonga, the first administrative capital of the Yoruba empire. Shango arrived in a transcendental time of Yoruba history, where the people had forgotten the lessons of God. Shango was sent with its twin brother by Oloddumare to clean society and for the town followed a clean life again and the lessons of the unique God.
After becoming King, the town dwellers began to say that Shango was very strict and even tyrannous. In that time the laws said that if a king wanted to be removed by his town he had to die. Shango finished with his life hanging himself, but he returned in his twin brother Angayú who with the use of the powder, ended the enemies of Shango. Then he began to be adored as Orisha and was called the God of Thunder.
Shango was a warrior king and the generals of Ibadan loved him. His followers saw him like the container of great creative potentialities. Shango was one of the Yoruba kings who helped to construct battle formation and thanks to his conquests the Yoruba empire extended from Mauritania to Gabon. He became famous mainly for his cavalry, which had a fundamental paper in the construction of the empire.
Other legends exists where it is said that Shango killed his children and spouses because his experiments with the powder, after regreting that he became an Orisha.
Shango was the first awó, and changed the ashé of the divination with Orunla for the dance, because of this he is very important in the cult of ifá for the babalawos, having the babalawos a hand of Ikines called hand of Shango.
Shango is brother of heart with Babalu Ayé (okan pelú okan). Shango eats first when this Orisha is crowned, since was Shango who helped him to be cured of his plagues. Ossaín is the godfather of Shango, the name of his slave is Deú and his messenger is called Bangboshé.
Shango means rebel, their stones or otanes are taken from cascades or rivers. One of the fundamental Orishas that is received when Kari-Osha Shango is Aggayú Sola. Every omo Shango must enter with Aggayú. His main symbol is the Oshe. The Oshe is a doll carved in cedar and instead of a head it has a double axe. Oshe with time is an energy that takes load, made by the babalawos, this lives with Shango.
In order to make Shango a ceremony on the foot of a cedar or real palm must be made at least with 6 days of anticipation to the Osha Akua Kua Lerí.
Shango is compared with Saint Barbara, which has its celebration on December 4th. Shango's day of the week is Saturday, although Friday also is popular.

Gran Bwa. Vodou Spirit Of The Forest.
This lwa of one of my favorite I'm going to speak a little about him.
Gran Bwa is a big part of all forms of voodoo. He is the lwa of the forest, he's a healer who has power of the sacred forest. He is a powerful lwa. He may or may not be of Congolese origin originally, but some believe have originally been a Taino spirit incorporated into the Vodou pantheon.
What Nation Is Gran Bwa From? He is from the Rada Nation, Not Petro like the internet says. He is a patron of initiations. Gran Bwa is considered the Tree of Life that connects the celestial realms with those of the living and the dead. I won't say he is the ruler of the forest but it's protector and you can find him their or at any tree if needed.
Gran Bwa can help you make baths and washes, wanga bottles, packet etc. He is a great healer who can bring luck to you and he would come to your defence. He can break strong black magic and curses and cleanse negativity. He can help you connect to your ancestors and your spiritual home in Vodou.
Gran Bwa is the Shade tree, Giving tree, Medicine tree, and the Hanging tree all at the same time. Tell him what you require and he'll help you.
If you follow the Catholicism path he is synchronize with Saint Sebastian.
St. Sebastian photo.
In other African religion like Puerto Rican Sanse, he is St. Sebastian or St. Jude.
Even thou voodoo spirit aren't saints he knows who your truly speaking too when you call apon him.
ANIMALS: He protects all forest animals.
COLOURS: Green or Red.
DAY: Saturday.
ALTAR: You can hang offerings from a any tree branch or lay them at the foot of the tree. Your altar is fine also.
Where To Find Him: You can find him in any forest area. Are if you have a place with a large old tree or a sacred tree (Eggun Tree) you'll find him their.
OFFERINGS: He likes green leaves and herbs, even braches if it's picked from a forest. Tobacco, Rum.

Boveda Espiritual
Boveda Espiritual
What is a Boveda Espiritual?
The Boveda is a sacred space or table that has been set for the elevation of one's Muerto/ Eggun/ Ancestors, and spiritual guides. Here the Mystic can venerate, and provide offerings, and in turn the Muerto provide clarity, protection, progress, and the strengthening of one's spiritual frame/ aura.
Learning the concept of the Boveda Espiritual first, is better than just jumping off intothe deep end, and setting it up not knowing the entire objective and purpose of a Boveda. While, you may find the Boveda Espiritual within many Lucumi practictioners homes, it is not exclusive, nor is it necessary for the religion. The Boveda itself is a tool for "working", as the altar can be set up in a fashion to assist the Medium in what it is they
TO CONSTRUCT THE BOVEDA: The table/ area should be dressed with a white cloth.
You should have a crucifix placed on or in your large glass. Why? this crucifix represents the crossroads, of the spiritual world and our physical world. It is believed that with out the cross you allow yourself open to any muertos (spirits) that seeks light. You can say prayers at the table/boveda.
Many use the book entitled Colecion De Oraciones/Selected Prayers, by Allen Kardec.
table should consist of 7-9 glasses. It is advised and optional to start with one.
One large glass dedicated to your spiritual guide or known as ---tu guia espiritual, the other 7/8 glasses are dedicated to various spirits that walk with you or have been established for the table via investigated misas (spiritual masses)
The Boveda should be attended on a daily basis along with saying your prayers. And once a week clean the table, and refill each glass with new water. Light your boveda: with a 7 day white candle.
As you progress you may have to add a different cup or items for a specific spirit/s, or objects that may represent that spirit/s.
Furthermore, setting your glasses in a circle represents and invokes protection.
The middle Large glass is for Olofi/Olodumare! Some of the other items that can or will be add are rocks, shells, bells, an Incense burner, cigars, black coffee, perfume, holy water, white flowers, eggun stick---with 9 color ribbons with bells, bible, rosery, catholic saints---although here is an issue:
There are those that dont believe that Santeros or African Traditional Religious clergy should deal with catholic saints----our egguns once upon a time worked and worshiped with those saints, to say not to is to deny their form of worship.
If you have any questions or comments about the construction of a Boveda Espiritual, and the workings of one, please do not hesitate to contact.

Creeping Crawlers
For those who are not aware, I am an excellent plant dad. One of my tricks is placing a nightcrawler or two in the soil of my larger potted plants for added aeration and nutrition. This works wonders. I usually just drop the little squirmer in and forget about it. Never to be seen again. The only evidence of his existence is my flourishing plants. Except for today. Today one escaped. I suppose this is to be expected every now and then. That isn’t the odd part. The odd part was the circumstances around his discovery and his seemingly sudden appearance from the depths of the void. Let me explain.
I have a habit of offering light to the medicine Buddha and to any of my eggun (ancestors) who may be out there. Today, I noticed one of the candles turned off suddenly. Not one second later I feel something wet on my foot. Lo and behold, it was a nightcrawler happily writhing near my tootsies. After the initial jump scare, I gently returned him to his potted plant home. But, I found the timing curious. I find it strange that I hadn’t noticed a worm crawling across my carpet until that very moment. They’re not exactly small or fast. I would have noticed.
What makes it even more uncanny is that about a year ago, I had a dream that a woman was taking what seemed to be worms or small eels out of a fish tank and placing them on my wrist where they became silver bracelets and then she whispered a name into my ear that I won’t repeat here.
Pretty wild. I wonder what my earthy friend was trying to tell me.
