to chime in on a point made by another user, as i have personal experience with this as well- the terf argument of "kids being forced on to HRT" when they are willingly transitioning is incorrect. but other kids, intersex kids, ARE forced onto HRT without any will or say in the matter, and it is usually encouraged by their parents/guardians/caregivers.
when i was told about my intersex condition as a minor, there was NO discussion about the medications i would be taking or how they would help me. i had no option to take testosterone, or nothing. i was forced on to estrogen HRT to "Fix" my masculine features. it made me miserable for years. it worsened my chronic fatigue for years. and it didn't even help with the heavy menstrual periods i was having at the time, like they said it would. it made me grow breast tissue, which i wasn't comfortable with.
a teenager knowing and being educated on the effects of HRT and wanting to pursue it is not being "forced' on to HRT- but i was. it wasn't called HRT at my appointment, i was just told i had to take estrogen (and progesterone) now to "fix" everything that was "wrong", like my facial hair and high androgen levels. it was until i was able to take things into my own hands and start testosterone that i felt much more like i was inside my own body. i WISH i had gotten the choice to start T, or just not take the estrogen at all, but i wasn't. i was told i HAD to take it, because something was "wrong" with me.
hrt can be and is a wonderful thing for people who are willingly making that decision, but there genuinely are millions of people who have been affected by having their hormone levels policed by their medical team. all it takes is 1 doctor to make that decision and then your gender and biological sex are no longer up to you. what you want is no longer a factor. what makes you feel comfortable and safe is never considered.
when we advocate for bodily autonomy, please remember and speak about intersex experiences. to fight back against terfs by saying "NOBODY gets forced on to HRT as a kid" is not helping anyone. to say that "no one" is forced on to HRT when talking about trans autonomy, it steps on the toes of intersex people who have been forced on to HRT. trans kids wanting to transition aren't being brainwashed. but intersex kids are forced into making decisions about their bodies they don't want to every single day. it's not pretty, but we can advocate for both groups without making the other feel undermined.

Alan Mathison Turing
Alan Turing was  was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher and theoretical biologist and is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science. During the Second World War, Turing worked for the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, Britain's codebreaking centre that produced Ultra intelligence. He led Hut 8, the section responsible for German naval cryptanalysis. He devised techniques for speeding the breaking of German ciphers, including improvements to the pre-war Polish bomba method, an electromechanical machine that could find settings for the Enigma machine. Turing played a crucial role in cracking intercepted messages that enabled the Allies to defeat the Axis powers in many crucial engagements, including the Battle of the Atlantic. in 1952 when Turing was 39, he began a relationship with Arnold Murray, a 19 year old unemployed man. In January of 1952, Turings house was burgled, and Murray told Turing that he and the burglar were acquainted, and Turing called the police to report the crime. During the investigation, he acknowledged a sexual relationship with Murray and both men were charged with "gross indecency" under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885. On the advice of his family and lawyer he pled guilty. In March of 1952 he was convicted and given a choice between imprisonment or probation with the condition that he undergo a hormonal treatment to reduce libido, aka as "chemical castration". Turing opted for probation and began the chemical treatments. Over the course of the following year he was injected with estrogen, causing impotence and for breast tissue to form. In a letter, Turing wrote that "no doubt I shall emerge from it all a different man, but quite who I've not found out".
On 8 June 1954, at his house at 43 Adlington Road, Wilmslow, Turing's housekeeper found him dead. A post mortem was held that evening which determined that he had died the previous day at the age of 41 with cyanide poisoning cited as the cause of death. When his body was discovered, an apple lay half-eaten beside his bed, and although the apple was not tested for cyanide, it was speculated that this was the means by which Turing had consumed a fatal dose. Many question whether his death was suicide or accidental but it is officially listed as suicide. In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II signed a pardon for Turings conviction of "gross indencency", with immediate effect. The Queen officially pronounced Turing pardoned in August 2014. The Queen's action is only the fourth royal pardon granted since the conclusion of the Second World War. Pardons are normally granted only when the person is technically innocent, and a request has been made by the family or other interested party; neither condition was met in regard to Turing's conviction. In September 2016, the government announced its intention to expand this retroactive exoneration to other men convicted of similar historical indecency offences, in what was described as an "Alan Turing law". The Alan Turing law is now an informal term for the law in the United Kingdom, contained in the Policing and Crime Act 2017, which serves as an amnesty law to retroactively pardon men who were cautioned or convicted under historical legislation that outlawed homosexual acts. The law applies in England and Wales.

I’m sure this one will attract the terfs like flies but I’m gonna say it anyway cuz I haven’t heard anyone express or discuss this exact take but here goes:
‘biological sex’ categories are just modern day phrenology
Like first off it’s based around the idea that someone’s ’biological sex’ is dependent on the convergence of multiple factors I.e chromosomes, hormone levels, genitalia, etc. But the idea that any of these indicators are inherent to the ‘biological sex’ they are attributed to is disproven by both intersex people and trans people. I.e Many cisgender women are born with a Y chromosome. Trans women with so called ‘male’ physiology can develop breast tissue and estrogen levels on par with someone with ‘female’ physiology.
Now the existence of these traits and the effects on the body is verifiable if disputable, but the modern idea of sex involves the assumption that these physical traits are indicative of someone’s character or capabilities. (i.e high testosterone means someone is more aggressive, high estrogen prevents high levels of physical achievement etc.)
How is this any different from assuming someone’s skull shape says anything about their intelligence?
And the fact that the modern ideas of what it means to be ‘biologically male’ or ‘biologically female’ were formed through deeply racist and violent phrenological research kind of supports this fact. So why do we assume these value assertions about individuals because of their physical traits are in fact true when the others are clearly false (obvs not everyone does think that sadly but generally speaking phrenology is scientifically discredited)
So when people claim we need to acknowledge the ‘biological reality’ of sex, both disingenuously and sincere,
do we though???
Yes we need to acknowledge the fact of generalised physical differences between people but I think we should question the idea that these physical differences indicate anything about a person’s personality, behaviour or capabilities and the validity of ‘sexual categories’ especially.
Side note: if this is like the stalest possible take in intersex discourse I apologise, I am merely a humble perisex trans woman who has engaged in way too many arguments with my increasingly right wing mother about imane khelif over the past few days and thought I should share my thoughts. Y’all are awesome and people should listen to your takes on sex and gender more often 🫶

I think I might be intersex? I'd kill for your opinion. I was born with a penis but had surgery as a baby (I'm to understand it was falling into my body) and it's always resided internally in its own cavity. I've heard of intersex folks that have an identical situation, any adivce/thoughts? I've been at a loss with this (and doctors don't take you seriously when you're overweight so they've been no help).
Hi anon! Sorry it took so long to answer.
I'm sorry you've been having to deal with discrimination from doctors--that's so messed up and you deserve better.
The first thing that comes to mind for me is that might have been a sign of hypospadias or epispadias, and that the surgery you had as a child might have been hypospadias or epispadias repair. Hypospadias is a condition where the urethra is located on the underside of the penis, and epispadias is when the urethra doesn't develop into a full tube and is located in a different place on the penis. A lot of times, hypospadias and epispadias also come along with congenital chordee, which means that the penis is curved and bent in a different direction due to bands of fibrous tissue. Undescended testicles (cryptorchidism) are also often associated with them. Hypospadias and epispadias are both considered intersex variations. I'm not too sure what that aftermath of that surgery looks like or potential complications as an adult, but that's something that really comes to mind to me as a possibility for you.
Another possibility might be Penoscrotal Transposition, which is a variation where people's penis is located below or in the middle of the scrotum. I'm less familiar with what surgery looks like for that, or what the possible after effects might be.
There are also several different intersex variations that could cause different genital configuration, but those would be probably less likely unless you also had more symptoms like growing breasts during puberty, micropenis, infertility, or other signs of estrogen based puberty.

hello i am not anon i hope that's ok
i have been doing research on using SERMs in an hrt regimen so u get e with no tits. They're originally breast cancer meds, and they selectively inhibit E receptors in breast tissue, but I've never heard of anyone trying this, so I'm going a bit blind. There is 0 literature on how they affect amab ppl but very much on how they selectively inhibit or amplify e's effect on every organ that is not balls, so I've hit a road block. Do u know if e receptors in ppls uteri and testis are the same? I think they are, and if so most SERMs would actually prevent estrogen from suppressing T production, but idfk man I didn't sleep last night and am realizing i have no idea what mechanism makes E suppress T.
this is turning out to be a lot of work for someone who acknowledges they're probably gonna want tits anyway and just need an excuse to start, but it's been shockingly easy so far. Might as well hit the books and figure out the last 10%
oh and all the usual suspects have this stuff in stock for cheap. I've compounded stuff insurance refused to pay for in the past to save money, but it's a pain. one I am glad to avoid this time.

In the United States, we don’t often hear about the young male refugees from genderism who have an artificial “neo-vagina” in their pubic area instead of a penis.
Newspaper articles regularly profile young women such as Chloe Cole, Prisha Mosley, and Camille Kiefel who lost their breasts to medical malpractice and have since brought suit, but you don’t often hear about the castrated men. Photos of Michelle Alleva’s scarred chest regularly show up on my X timeline, but for obvious reasons, regretful men don’t usually share pictures of their intimate body parts post-surgery.
On June 4, 2024, Prisha announced via X that she’d given birth to a son. While the world empathizes with her grief that she’ll never be able to enjoy breastfeeding her baby, we share her relief that “gender-affirming care” didn’t destroy her fertility. Prisha’s story mingles feelings of regret and triumph, of loss and joy—an ultimately uplifting tale of healthy motherhood and a new life.
In short, Prisha may have taken a detour into genderism and suffered a poignant loss, but now she’s back on track and able to enjoy a loving relationship with her baby.
For the men in my practice who faced up, too late, to being gay, there’s no going back. Going forward (what’s deceptively referred to as “transition”) turned out to be an illusion, but how do they “go back”—that is, take up the life of a gay man when they no longer have a penis?
Warning: the following descriptions might make some readers deeply uncomfortable. I advise them to keep reading and I promise to keep disturbing details to a minimum.
In the surgical procedure known as a “penile inversion vaginoplasty” (PIV), a man’s penis is sliced open and used (sometimes along with scrotal tissue) to line an artificial cavity created in the pubic area. Typically referred to as a neo-vagina, it’s a surgically-created wound which must be regularly dilated to prevent the body from trying to heal it—that is, to close it up because the body senses that it doesn’t belong there. In addition to penile skin grafts, intestinal tissue may sometimes be used to line the neo-vagina. During the operation, surgeons relocate the prostate away from its normal position below the bladder and in front of the rectum.
The operation is irreversible, obviously, just as a double mastectomy can’t be undone. Prisha can’t recover her healthy breasts, and my male clients will never again have a functioning penis.
Administration of cross-sex hormones is part of the usual protocol for men undergoing PIV, both pre- and post-op; among the side-effects are brain fog, and sometimes a complete loss of or profound diminishment in sexual desire. In some cases, the surgically created neo-vagina is too small for penetrative sex; for others, such sex is painful or unsatisfying.

I've never said that, in fact I think I've generally said the opposite. I think when it comes to elective medicine, ultimately for adults (fully capable adults) they need to be as informed as possible, and if they believe to the best of their knowledge that the medicine they're electing to adopt is providing them a better psychological existence, I believe that they have the bodily autonomy to do so and should have that bodily autonomy protected, regardless of whether I or anyone thinks it's the healthiest choice. In simpler words, I would rather someone get a nose job than kill themselves.
That doesn't mean I think everyone is fully informed, or that doctor's can't lead their patients astray, or that we can't be critical of well accepted medicine, or that even if someone is to the point that they would rather die than not get their "nose fixed" that the nose job is the only solution or a long term solution (because it isn't).
When it comes to transition, I'm extremely skeptical and critical of what doctors and surgeons are suggesting to their patients, and I don't believe most people seeking surgery are as informed as they should be. Generally speaking, I think the majority of the population is rather scientifically and medically illiterate (which is not a moral judgement, a value judgement, or a judgement on their character or intelligence). For many examples: The idea that a "neo-vagina" is in every single way the same as an actually vagina or vulva is obviously and clearly false. The idea that removing your breasts will definitely lift your dysphoria or solve it or fix it or heal it or whatever other word you want to use is clearly false. The ideas being pushed online and accepted by doctors that breasts are "useless" or the uterus is "useless" without a gender identity (rather than them being parts of a functioning whole physical body regardless of any identity) is malicious. Ultimately, if a woman wanted to get her breasts removed, I would hope you would fully understand that the procedure is irreversible, is in fact removing healthy tissue, and understands that this is likely not a long term solution to her psychological needs. I'm skeptical this is most cases for this surgery or really any gender transitioning surgery. Including hormone therapy as well which from my albeit limited research, the research into the effects of that seems unsubstantial and underwhelming. Do we really know the effects that life-long estrogen shots will have in 20-30 years for a 20 year old male who also gets their jaw bone shaved down, or are we rolling the dice with them? It makes me sad to think what could be potential side-effects we're ignoring at the moment.
When it comes to superficial transition, for example clothing and adopting mannerisms, you can't be against it without thinking there's a way to be a man or a way to be a woman, and I don't. I don't have a problem with gender non-conformity. I do think people are categorically wrong to believe they are biologically male or female based on their gender performance, but they're just wrong and people can be wrong about things. What's worrisome is when people are pushing policy changes based on demonstrable falsehoods, especially if they're harmful to women, but when it comes to any one person's individual public presentation...that's not my business. Do people leverage gender presentation to gain access to vulnerable people? Yes, but also some people are minding their business.
