I love this little bonus of James and Jack's relationship: a chance to piss their "families" off 😉
Just imagine that somehow Jack and his people meet Lawrence Norrington, Edward Teague and Fitzy Dalton III again. Imagine that these three scumbags want another war or something something and Jack says "Yeah, you can kill each other, why not. But, you see, it's not my and my love's business anymore, so...".
Teague is like "Your what... LOVE?!". Jack is like "Oh, so you haven't heard! Pardon...", he shouts "Luuuuuuuv! Luv, come here, please!". And then here he comes: so handsome, so charming and so devastatingly piratey His Sarcasmness James Norrington 😎
Lawrence, Fitzy & Teague: *excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor*
Yeah, James Fabulous Norrington comes, puts his arm around Jack's shoulder, smiles lovingly. And when "finally notices" who is there with Jack, he smiles like a shark and says like everything is normal "Oh! Hello, father. Hello, cousin. And good day, Mr Teague... or should I say my future father-in-law?".
Norringtons-Daltons vs Teague. So many years. Such archenemies! And now THIS?! Their boys?! How is this even possible! They SHOULD FIGHT against each other, they WERE TAUGHT to hate each other, what the hell... what is that, fucking Romeo & Juliet in the Caribbean?!?! (let's add their queerphobia).
Oh, to see it! To see their faces! I'm wondering... would they be more pale or red? 😆
Do you think in the scene where they bring out the Code Elizabeth took one look at Captain Teague, did a double take, and just went to Barbossa "Hold on is that Jack's dad" "Yeah that's Jack's dad...they look alike dont they, you can really tell" "Your right, they do"
and then later mentioned it to Will
"Hey Will you see that captain over there with the red coat, black hair and trinkets in his hair" "Yeah??" "Who does he remind you of?" "Jack, why?" "That's Jack's dad" "Really wow...didn't we just trade his son to the British Navy??" "....oh god"
rewatching pirates of the caribbean and looking at the Jack Sparrow family tree made me realize a very funny thing.
Edward Teague is Jacks father.
He is losely based on Edward Teach.
(I know there's a Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean, who is called Edward Teach, but let's ignore that for a second. Blackbeard is a name losely used for any captain who has the vibe honestly.)
If Edward Teague aka Jack Sparrows Dad was Blackbeard....
Some random headcanons about Redd because she’s the best and I’m just now finding out she has a fanbase:
She actually has no real given name. She’s gone by a lot of names over the years; Ruby, Crimson, Scarlett, Rose, Carmine. Anything that means “red”. But Redd is the name she likes the most, so it’s what she introduces herself as
She may or may not be a cousin of Jack Sparrow. None of the family really knows, but her mother took on her father (Edward Teague’s brother) as a frequent client over the years so they’re pretty sure the kid is his.
Edward Teague felt responsible for Redd after she was born and took her under his wing. He was the closest thing to a father she ever had.
When she was about 18-19 she was auctioned off (like in the ride) but she eventually shot her “husband” and went off on her own.
Jack took the blame for the crime cause he just so happened to be there to try to break her out. Only Edward knows and plans to take the secret to the grave.
Redd can be just as chaotic if not moreso than Jack, to the point where sometimes even he struggles in keeping up with her
To be petty he refuses to ever call her Captain despite her very much being her. Instead Jack will always call her “Rusty Redd”
She LOVES dad jokes. She’s the only soul alive who’s genuinely laughed at Uncle Jack’s terrible jokes
Redd’s got a bit of a drinking problem but she’s able to manage it pretty well.
She HATES chicken. Ever since she was little they’ve had a weird vendetta against her so she refuses to eat them
Redd is just about the only person who never gets mad when Jack betrays her. If anything she expects it. And sometimes she’ll get a good betrayal on him too
She loves to sing and dance her heart out, but she’s not very good at either
I do think a lot abt teague and the way he just completely changes from awe to ost like it's actually so fascinating to me bc like it does a little bit read to me like the writers realised they had keith richards of the rolling stones of I can't get no satisfaction of paint it black and they'd very much implied he was a menace and a bad father even if he did look really cool during all of it and sort of backtracking on it a little bit like the difference really is so stark between the two movies is actually crazy like in ost he's like mysterious and wears a funny hat but like he's generally helpful and seems chill to be around. in awe his own son tenses up at the mere mention of him and he swings dead women's heads around willy nilly like it's really no wonder all the books latched onto the child abuse angle bc it really is so right there. and idk like I do feel like you can sort of justify the change with jack and him I guess reconnecting a bit now that jack is also ancient but I do like the visual of big disney realising they'd accidentally turned their expensive celebrity cameo into the ceo of child abuse like that's funny to me sorry
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Edward Teague —Aesthetic
Captain Edward Teague's Character & Personality
Teague is a buccaneer pirate who's the illegitimate father of Jack and owner of the jail dog. He's also the Pirate Lord of Madagascar and keeper of the Brethren Court's Code. As the Keeper of the Pirate's Code, Teague respects the Code enough to kill anyone who disrespects it, even if it's a brief mention of hanging the Code. He has shot Code-breakers in the head with no more emotion than when crushing a roach. To Teague, the Code isn't only the law, it's everything. He has candor, rigorous personal integrity and uncompromising commitment to the Code. This earned Teague the fear and respect of the other Pirate Lords of the Brethren Court. With an aristocratic bearing, he's a fearsome figure, but with unmistakable touches of sweetness and vulnerability towards his son. Teague has a fearsome temper, but he has some sense of morality. At some point in his life, he took up the guitar and became quite good at playing it. Teague mainly plays it in the Pirate Hall. Although he's captain of a ship, he's a "stay at home" and withdrawn kind of pirate; having done most of his adventuring in his younger days. Teague is quite reserved and dignified in times of victory. Many parts of his life are quite mysterious. When someone would ask him something about his past, Teague's usual reply was: "Sea turtles, mate!"
Because I've always thought that Gibbs is a good friend for Jack and that he's got better daddy vibes than Teague (well, Gibbs is generally a better person than that abusive asshole, isn't he) + I've just found an interview Kevin McNally gave for Vienna Comic Con 2022 in which he said: "I suppose the character [Gibbs] became like a father figure for Jack Sparrow" ☺️
