YSEALI Seeds: Edujobs
Our Story
Unemployment and the inability to afford quality education are still prevalent in many Southeast Asian countries. As countries develop into having more industrialization and automation, many people are left with jobs and skills that are obsolete and without the resources to upskill or reskill themselves. Without affordable and applicable education, people would be stuck in the poverty cycle without a way out.
We feel that a platform that can combine micro education courses and jobs would significantly help people in need to get the necessary skills to generate more income and have a better life. The platform could also empower more impact projects, encourage aspired project leaders to step up and make a difference in their community.
Until today we have built the education platform and the job platform, both are fully functional and ready to be scaled. We have gotten some freelancers onto the job platform and are working with industry experts to develop the courses.

All the best @pcumesh, @spandit812, @nikhil.1489, @sarathysriram and @jitendramca! You guys were really awesome to work with! #Remote #RemoteWork #India https://www.instagram.com/p/B9HH2USp7qz/?igshid=imqupl0i115r

Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves, contrarian
I like contrarians. Sometimes I find myself taking the minority position just for the sport of it.
So I was pleased to see Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves once again swimming against the current of school administrators who have criticized Gov. Dennis Daugaard's education reform plan. Not because I feel strongly that the governor is right or wrong, but because I like when people don't fall in line.
In a lengthy opinion piece published in today's Mitchell Daily Republic, Graves says this in defense of merit-based bonuses:
I can imagine no system more unfair than the current one, which hands the same raises to all year in and year out entirely regardless of job performance.
Graves also sided with the governor's office in October 2010 when Gov. Mike Rounds diverted $26 million in Education Jobs money Congress intended to be spent on preventing teacher layoffs.
The problem with the legislation was timing. The money came too late for schools to suddenly hire a bunch of teachers.
I quoted Graves in a story Oct. 14, 2010:
While the governor's decision upset the Associated School Boards and teachers union, some school administrators argued it was the right decision. Part of the trouble with the jobs fund is that it passed in August, too late to make a significant effect this school year.
Mitchell Superintendent Joe Graves, who opposed the bill, said his district would have socked away the $500,000 it was slated to get. It would have come too late to reverse decisions to lay off a half-time curriculum director and full-time physical education teacher, he said.
"I don't think the state made a mistake in that area," Graves said. "We wouldn't have done what (Congress) wanted us to do anyway. We would have simply put the money in our accounts and held it."
