People who try to argue that Edith was not in love with Thomas must be missing the premise of the film being a gothic romance... (I've literally seen someone say that Thomas didn't seem happy that Edith survived at the end and seemed shocked / disappointed that she was alive. WTF ? The guy literally tried to save her when he was alive and his appearance as a ghost was specifically for that purpose too...) Worse, those who think that Edith would end up in the future with Alan while the beginning of the movie literally says that Edith will die a widow.

My goal is to write a book (a gothic romance) and it will be made into a movie but the main character is described so specifically that only one man will fit the role (Tom Hiddleston) but I will delete this post when it happens so no one knows I planned it

People : Thomas was fully consenting in his relationship with Lucille ! She wasn't the most dominant at all ! He had as much power as her ! It's impossible that she used her role as a protective big sister to abuse him since they were children ! She was only 2 years older after all ! Never mind the fact that as a child, she performed all the tasks that servants should have done, killing animals with her bare hands and cooking, in short taking on the role of the adult ! No risk that it would have had an impact on the dynamics !
Thomas, meanwhile :

Oh yes. It's true that he totally seems fully consenting to everything she does / wants, and is on equal footing with her in terms of power...
Thomas' only real crime in this story is letting Lucille do what she wanted without ever challenging her, this being the result of the mental domination she exercises over him as his big sister (with a limited role as a mother with the book) and protector since always.
Sorry, but if Thomas had been a woman and Lucille a man, no one would have questioned the fact that Lucille was the full leader and Thomas the follower due to mental manipulation / domination since they were little.
But no. Since Thomas is a man and Lucille a woman, they absolutely must be on an equal footing in terms of power and desire. (Yes because it's impossible to clear Lucille in this film, so they try to put Thomas on the same level, refusing the fact that he has as much of a victim as Edith and all the people Lucille killed...)
