Hi hi! So, I've recantly installed a few mods for stardew valley, and I can definitely say my favorite one is Eli and Dylan by Tenebrous Nova on nexus! I absolutely adore these 2 dorks and wanted to draw them :D

Also Dylan has the coolest sweater I've ever seen and I needed to draw it as well

ALSO also I may be a little bit in love with Eli

And I just needed to add something silly so

Anyway! I would highly reccomend the mod! I think both of them are very interesting and add a lot to the playthrough. They're part of the east scarp mod and I think they fit there very well. And I just though there wasn't enough love for these 2 out there.

i know tommy is a tertiary character or whatever but after rewatching all the begins i desperately want to hear him talk more about that time at the 118 from his perspective. i want to know if he was afraid! i want to know if he wasn’t! how much did he know about himself by then, an inkling? nothing at all? all of it?? i want to know about his guilt and bridging the gap to friendship and if having made amends back then feels any different now that he isn’t hiding anymore…

Back on tumblr like its 2008

Some things have happened in my life:

I've moved back to Cambridgeshire

The drama of the horrors of my doctoral thesis being unembargo'd got resolved, so I can write about it on the internet

It's four years since my doxx-aversary (the day I got doxxed by a bunch of mean Oxford grad students when I was just living my life climbing glacier in Iceland, which led to me fearing for my life because my doctoral thesis became publicly available, and it was on human rights law, so was embargo'd for good reasons -- oy, it is a long story. In fact it is a novel, about the evil of academics and haunted libraries and interrogations in embassies)

I'm planning to open a patisserie in 2024

It's 20 years since I left Cambridgeshire in the first place, as a little 18 year old proto-person, off to the evil other place that hurt me, and then everywhere else, and now I'm back

So. I thought this might be a good moment to make a place to write about the things going on in my life.

I do other things elsewhere, such as: lecture on law, write papers on space law, write fiction under a pseudonym, learn languages, try to be a good person etc etc. But this blog/ website is specifically for my time in Cambridgeshire, and my exploration of returning home.

My dear lovely friend from my sixth form years has been persuaded to make a podcast with me about all things Fenland and East Anglian. so if that actually materialises, I will post that here as well.

The most pressing question I have in my life at the moment is: what name should I give my patisserie? Two candidates are:

*Dottirons (a portmanteau of part of my surname and the word 'macarons')

*Pistachio Kisses

*Allansdottir's (naming a cafe after oneself feels mega pretentious, but my surname actually names me after my father so it is actually in his honour)

it’s hard to judge east scarp in the same way i would the other major stardew expansions because honestly east scarp doesn’t really feel like the highlight of itself???

because of the mod being kind of like a host site for other mods, it makes the location of east scarp itself feel sort of unmemorable, and the mod itself to feel a lot less cohesive than either stardew expanded or ridgeside village. it doesn’t really integrate itself seamlessly into base stardew like expanded, and as a standalone area i think ridgeside is significantly more compelling and has a lot more depth, even off the bat. it also doesn’t help that the npcs original to east scarp itself have been pretty unremarkable across the board, very much unlike ridgeside and expanded if you ask me.

that being said, i think it’s clear that the highlights of east scarp are in the handful of add on mods that have already really captured my heart. i mentioned sterling from its always raining in the valley in my last post, and he’s just a fantastic new character that i pretty much immediately fell in love with. eli and dylan have been a HUGE surprise; i’d never heard of them until now but i’ve found both of them to be delightful, and they have easily the most intrigue at the point in the game i’m at right now (late fall year 1). also, i’ve barely scratched the surface of swords and sorcery, having really only met mateo, but they’re also a fun and charming new character, and the stuff i see on the steam page for that mod seems super promising.

i’m still pretty early on, so my thoughts are subject to change of course, but that’s sort of where i’m at with east scarp right now. as an expansion on its own merits, it’s definitely underwhelming compared to expanded and ridgeside, also there were a lot of add on mods that i took one look at and knew they would do absolutely nothing for me. but the handful of standouts are making the experience worth it, and as always its just fun to go back to stardew for more new experiences. i’m at almost a thousand hours now and still have gas in the tank, which is honestly insane.

Not to rag on East coasters but. ‘Oh no the sky is orange’ ‘oh no I have to learn about the air quality index’ Like. YEAH HELLO WELCOME TO MY LIFE EVERY SUMMER? Like. Why are all the headlines taking about it when it’s the east coast dealing with smoke but the Pacific Northwest has been on fire every summer for like eight years and no one seems to give a shit. THIS ISNT NEW GUYS??!

Listen. I know what it’s like to be worried about the air you’re breathing. I know what it’s like to have your sky turn weird colors. I know what it’s like to not go outside because the air it dangerous.

BUT THATS THE POINT. why do folks care more when it’s the East coast than the west???
