Round 1 of preliminaries, group 16
The first two places get a place on the bracket
Little reminder: there will be 2 more rounds of preliminaries, the losing blorbos of this poll still have 2 chances of getting in the official bracket
Propaganda under the cut
Parker (Leverage)
"Some of the weird things she says are so true. Like when she talks about past/present/future parker. Her joy at the things that she loves is so complete. Christmas every year! I too have the urge to stab people with forks when in uncomfortable social situations. And it was great when she made her security code to her…home…Sophie’s real name because it was representative of where trust stood in the team after the prison break. Oh! And her and Alec are total couple goals. (Thruple goals if you add in Elliot)"
Gudetama (Sanrio)
"A lazy egg who really doesn't want to do much of anything and would rather just go back to sleep"
Finn the Human (Adventure Time)
"finn is just a little guy doing his best and trying to help people! he's the only human in the show so he's just like us fr (the entire human race) and he starts off the series as a kid and grows up during it so he really goes through all the relatable ups and downs and friendships and relationships and mistakes and achievements that we all go through. he does a lot of idolising people and having to realise they're not what he told himself they were. sometimes he tries to distract himself from an existential crisis by running around yelling or stabbing things with a sword. relatable"
Rain O'Fire Frazier (Worm)
"Rain grew up in a conservative community that he didn't want to be part of, and rejected their regressive ideology in favor of surrounding himself with people who have gender vibes, mental health issues, and traumas of their own. Also, people give him all sorts of crap in the setting, and while he does fuck up sometimes, he's just a swell dude who's hoping to not get murdered by crazy people. Times being what they are, I think that that's something a lot of people can relate to."
Piper Mclean (Heroes of the Olympus)
"she's SO full of love!!! she loves everyone so strongly!! she has a complicated relationship with femininity, gender and beauty standards. she bullies her friends but would go down fighting for them if needed. she acts out to get her dad's attention. she believes in a balance between emotions and logic, and is not afraid to tell her friends if she thinks they're neglecting the emotional side of a problem."
Norma Khan (Dead End Paranormal Park)
"She is autistic and struggles with socialising (same) She has special interests that she will bring up at any opportunity. She can get overwhelemed and scared being in the world. Norma is also bisexual! She spends her time in a Pauline Phoneix theme park (one of her spins) and fighting demons and ghosts (another special interest). Vote Norma today!!"
"She goes through so many relatable experiences that I rarely see depicted and is just overall an excellent character. The third episode of the show has the most relatable depiction of anxiety I've ever seen (especially the intersection between social anxiety and autistic sensory overload). It's one of those episodes where each character has to face their worst fears, and with how those episodes usually go, I expected her to overcome her fears at the end of the episode and just not have them anymore. Instead, she overloads the villain by having too much fear for him to handle since she has to constantly face her greatest fears as part of her everyday life. The protagonist also acknowledges how much more severe her fear is compared to most other people, which is pretty validating. Her special interest is an actress who turns out to be a really shady person, and she has a lot of trouble processing this because it was so close to her heart. She even gets a musical number about it! I've never seen this particular experience depicted in fiction, but it's one that is sadly pretty relatable to me and probably a lot of other people on here. She also has a plot where she is rejected romantically by a straight friend, which is kinda nice to see (even if it's not nice for poor Norma) since even though this is a really common experience IRL I rarely see it explored in fiction. And she's just really funny and smart and a great character in general!"

SO I've mentioned several times now that What This World Has to Offer, as we know it now, is a rewrite of a story I wrote in middle school. But I was thinking about all the things that have changed between then and now and thought it'd be fun to share some of it with you guys! So here we are! Things that are brand new to this story, and things that have been fixed! First things first, the main characters. Of course, the main five characters of What This World Has to Offer! We've got some things to discuss about these particular blorbos. First off, Wilson. In the original draft, honestly, everything about Wilson kind of fell off after Wilbur was introduced. I'm not even joking, I basically threw him aside entirely. I had no backstory or development really planned for him, and some really weird hoop jumping in order to excuse his behavior as the story went on. He fell so far from relevancy that I rarely even considered him when thinking about the group. It was pretty much exclusively Webber, Wilbur, and WX-78. Speaking of Wilbur, why on earth did I choose him? The one character in the entire game with no personality traits or quirks, no story, no concept, really nothing except for the fact that he can vaguely say 'banana'. I was writing WTWHTO when Shipwrecked came out and I really wanted to add one of the characters to the story. I had never really planned on having five characters, and honestly the characters in SW I just felt didn't fit well. So, I, as a normal fanfiction writer, took the character I could have full creative control over. On top of that, I loved the idea of including each of the 'weird' characters from each section of the game, as well as the game's main character (Wilson). WX-78 represents Vanilla. Webber represents Reign of Giants. Naturally, Wilbur represents Shipwrecked. When originally writing WTWHTO, I didn't really have any backstory for Wilbur either. Instead, after I was finished, I started working on The One True Heir, a backstory for Wilbur that was made up on the spot. In the rewrite, I got to explore this backstory so much more considering it... actually existed. You know. Better than the original. I got the name Roselyn, Wilbur's mate, from the character Rosaline from Romeo and Juliet (which we were reading in English at the time) and Elizabeth, Wilbur's daughter, was named after my at-the-time best friend of the same name. Now for WX-78. At the time, I didn't realize people actually headcanoned that they held a soft spot for Webber. Somehow, it was just how their character grew as the story went on. Their relationship with Webber was left a bit more ambiguous, described simply as 'best friends', but as I got older I realized there were times it sounded almost queer-baity, so I decided to emphasize their bond as distinctly brotherly. I was posting exclusively to Fanfiction.net, which didn't have tags, so there wasn't any real way to say to the audience that shipping was not intended. If people wanna ship them, that's up to y'all, but it's not the story's intention. I am much happier with how they see each other in this version, and I feel it is more accurate to how I originally intended it to be. When I first started writing it, I did not intend to write Webber out of character. I simply... didn't know how to write characters that were soft and sweet. At this point, that boy's his own character lol Which leaves the fifth character- Nick!

A, N and V for the ask game!
A: Of the fanfic youve written, which is your favorite and why?
Oooh. Hard question, because I absolutely love almost all of my fics. But I THINK I can narrow it down. To three. (I'm indecisive LOL)
this year it taught me (lost and ambitious) was my first longfic ever (even if it's more of a collection of short stories) and is my pride and joy. The title may suck - I have no clue why it's so long - and there's plenty of flaws, but I'm very proud of this guy. Every so often I reread it and it's always a blast - past me covered a lot of different topics, a lot of relationships, and I think it had some pretty good characterization!
Educational Quandaries and Academic Arson are the silliest things I've written but also by far my favorite of my oneshots. Writing Sky as a miserable college student and hero is my favorite thing ever. It's also quite representative of myself right now - I have exams in a few weeks I should be studying for, and yet…
N: Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?
A solid handful. These are all WIPs, actually, not ideas, but I hope you'll forgive me for considering them interchangeable!
In the TP manga, Twilight's backstory includes him accidentally vaporizing the city he lived in before Ordon. I think they turn out to be alive and well, but fanfiction where him and Legend bond over seemingly destroying entire civilizations they loved.
HTTYD AU! Kind of. Everything's the same, and Sky essentially has a role similar to that of Hiccup in HTTYD 2 - he's an adventurer, mapping out the region around what will eventually become Hyrule. He also has Hiccup's cool-ass flying suit. I want to give Sky a cool wingsuit. That's it. (This is barely an AU, lol. I'm not an AU person for the most part. Excluding modern AUs.)
Speaking of - fanfiction where Warriors and Legend are in a car, and that car gets hit by lightning. Inspired by the same thing happening to my aunt. It didn't really do much except be frightening, surprisingly? Legend is appropriately frightened.
That's everything notable. The rest are all completed short stories and vague ideas that are more emotions than anything, lol.
V: Are there certain comments you’ve received on your stories that have stuck with you?
As I think everyone who's responded to this comment has said, I love literally each and every comment I receive! There's definitely often some that stand out, though. Some people inform you that you've hit the mark you were aiming for with your writing, others tell you about how your writing affected them personally. The latter always makes me emotional, lol. It's also fun seeing a person comment multiple times in a row on different fics - it's like, HI!! I SEE YOU BINGING MY WORK!!! I APPRECIATE YOU!!!!
Getting comments from writers you admire is great, too. As someone who used to have a huge following on my previous Ao3 account, logically I know they're just some random people who like their blorbos. But I always end up incredibly excited anyways, haha.
There's also no greater joy than a returning commenter. Often, I've found myself in like… a symbiotic relationship of commenting long paragraphs? It's amazing. I made one of my closest online friends this way, over a discussion about tea in my comments!!
Lord OKAY. I went too hard with these responses, I think, but I have a lot of thoughts. Thank you for asking, Rose!! :D
#qar answers#...renegade rose#am i doing this right#also i get sooo concerned when a returning reader just disappears#it is in my nature to be unreasonably worried about people i know exist LOL#linked universe#linked universe fanfic

Do you have a favorite character relationship, platonic or romantic, that’s your favorite to write purely from an author format?
I feel like I’m wording this terribly, but I know for me personally, my favorite relationships to read and write from like… a fandom perspective based on what I ship? is different than the relationships that are interesting to me as an author, because trying to figure out how characters interact, trying to capture their relationship and banter and dialogue and mannerisms, I find in some ways is more fun and interesting and dynamic to write over even some of my absolute favorite relationships, because with my favorites, I read and write them so much that I’m very comfortable with them and sometimes it’s nice to know that I’m just able to go for it and write them because I trust my internal instinct about how to write them and how they act and talk.
But the ones that are more challenging to explore or more unique are in many ways almost more interesting to write, they scratch that author itch when I can pull them off, and especially enjoy.
Like, there’s the things fandom author me enjoys, and things literary author me enjoys, and while there’s a LOT of overlap I have different preferences and favorites on both sides
And honestly I think this goes for ALL writing, not just necessarily relationships? So yeah, there’s the question and I’m so sorry for the rambling, but what would you say are your favorite things and relationships and plots etc to write as a fandom author, and favorite ones as a literary author? I’m happy to try to explain more if I’m being confusing. Words. Hard. Sorry
Are you asking in terms of abstracts (i.e. overall character types/dynamics/broad themes) or specifics (i.e. actual characters/ships from particular media properties)? In general for fandom, I have certain tropes and dynamics that I gravitate toward: i.e. Trashy Garbage Man Falls For Tiny Fierce Woman Who Doesn't Take His Bullshit; Sunshine and Grumpy (any combination thereof); Stupid Homosexuals are Stupid and Cannot Communicate, Cause Problems for Themselves; Now With Even More Literal Centuries of Pining God They're So Fucking Stupid, and more. Most of my favorite and long-term ships, such as Garcy, Fivan, Dreamling, etc. fall into one or more of these categories. I also particularly enjoy or have enjoyed writing Flynn (Timeless), Hob (Sandman), Ivan (Shadow and Bone), and their associated relationships, for various reasons. I know all of their characters well and they give me joy, so it's easy to slip into their POV, create scenarios or headcanons, and put them in various settings and give them problems. So there's that.
In terms of my original stuff, I am much more experimental and interested in a broader range of styles and outcomes. When you're writing fic, you are usually heading toward a certain ending (a happy ending for the blorbos after various tribulations), and I therefore have a certain writing style for fic that reflects that. My original fiction is different and in some ways considerably darker, and pushes character boundaries, plotlines, and interactions beyond what you'll normally see in my fic. For example, I have two currently finished original novels that (and I KNOW I have said this before) I should just quit procrastinating on and publish, especially since I badly need the money. One of them, The Wives, is a dark feminist murder-version of #MeToo with an unreliable and extremely feral female narrator. The other, Wormwood, is an alternate-history science fiction saga that is a combination of The Man in the High Castle and Chernobyl. They're both considerably different from each other in tone, style, and character relationships, and they represent more experimentation, complicated morality, and plot conflict than is generally reflected in my fics, because long-form fandom writing is one kind of thing and original long-form writing is another. So hey.
I likewise am currently working on an original version of my fic The Key of Solomon, entitled The Empire of Bones, which is an epic ensemble political-magical fantasy set in a historically inspired world. @silverbirching has read Part 1 and very much enjoyed it, so I am hoping to finish that one sometime in the new year (probably not sooner, but we will see?) It is likewise quite different from The Wives and Wormwood, and will (I hope) readily appeal to fans of my fics, because it preserves some of the same themes, styles, and character dynamics, while also including a ton of original stuff, extensive world-building, and new plots, themes, and content.
Thanks for the question!

day 309
no actually i wont stop inserting my blorbos into other properties.
anyway.
i saw hadestown on tour this summer and im never going to emotionally or spiritually recover. and i have a lot of thoughts about this au!! long-winded rambling under the cut
so casting: Orpheus: Jade Eurydice: Aradia Hermes: Rose Hades: Jane (Crockertier mode, primarily) Persephone: Roxy The fates are representative of like. Aradia's ghost voices. I don't super know how to convey that visually. ANYWAY!! I just think that the dynamic between Orpheus and Eurydice in the way Hadestown tells their story gets very much to the heart of what I think is so interesting about AraJade, and that's the like.... Conflicting worldviews they have. I think that conflict, despite frustrating them at times, is part of what pulls them toward each other. Aradia (and Eurydice) are like... Kind of tragic characters! They have been through a lot, and while Aradia is very positive, and Eurydice is prepared to crack jokes, their worldviews boil down to "The universe is uncaring, and fate bears down on us no matter what choices we make. But FUCK it, I am going to live anyway. I'm going to do whatever the hell I have to do to keep going as an act of rebellion."
Jade (and Orpheus) however, still manage to be optimistic, not just about their own prospects, but about the world. When problems arise, they're not just going to ignore them and try to press on as things get worse. They're going to try to solve the problem! They're going to put that responsibility on themselves. It might speak to a level of overconfidence, or naivete, sure. But it also speaks to an overabundance of compassion for the people around it. They're not just going to fix things for themselves, but for everybody.
So when they meet, and Jade says "YES the world is difficult, the seasons are wrong, the world is out of tune, but I am going to write a song that will fix it." Aradia is understandably skeptical! She doesn't believe it until Jade shows her proof that her music has some otherworldly power (which. shakes her worldview obviously and she kind of fucking LOVES that?) But Rose (Hermes) says this girl will make her feel alive again, and to Aradia, "that's worth a lot" Speaking of Rose, idk. I was torn on who to put in Hermes' place. But Rose is established as both a Seer, and a storyteller. To repeatedly narrate a story whose tragic ending she's already seen play out a thousand times, just because it's beautiful and hey, maybe it'll turn out different this time (even though it never has before.) IDK ITS JUST A ROSE VIBE 2 ME! Plus Hermes has a friendly relationship with Orpheus, he wants him to succeed, but he's also not afraid to pull punches when criticizing him. I think that's a good dynamic for Rose and Jade.
I also waffled around for a while about Hades and Persephone, but in the end Persephone really HAD to be Roxy. It's not just about the alcoholism recovery arc they both share, it's about Persephone as a daughter missing her mother, and as a figure known to everyone around her as funny and generous and just kind of this universally-beloved figure who behind the scenes is REALLY struggling to cope with her own emotions. The Roxy vibes are truly off the charts. So given that, Jane made the best Hades, I think. Jane as Hades isn't the MOST compelling matchup in this to me, but I think she fits into the role well enough. First off, she really DOES love Roxy. But as they drift apart over time, and in the absence of any other real positive influences, she just kinda... Falls into the capitalism thing a little too hardcore. She misses Roxy and maybe to start with she really DOES think that if she can make enough progress in her work that it will impress Roxy enough to maybe stay a little longer than usual, but well. Industrial progress is not what impresses Roxy! And Jane is.... A little stubborn about her worldview, and has become extremely busy with her work, and doesn't really pay close enough attention to Roxy's feelings to notice all that, so. Things decay rapidly, and it becomes a point of conflict between them. But in the end we DO get to see them taking the first steps towards resolving things. Because frankly I think they would! They just care too much about each other at the end of the day.
Anyway listen to the Hadestown soundtrack if you haven't yet, please, I'm fucking begging

Hello friend!!
Apologies for the wait it took me to respond to you — I only just checked back in with my ao3 account and noticed your comment, and since you don’t have an account yourself I’m unsure if you’d see my reply. So here I am, plaguing your inbox with it instead! I do hope it isn’t a bother, haha.
I was really very happy to see your name again. Admittedly I’ve saved all the incredible artwork my fic received over the course of my writing it, but yours genuinely have a very special place in my heart as some of the first and last I ever received. I still recall opening my inbox and seeing the notification the first time; it was so surreal to me that people would draw anything based on my works. Your art of Tommy and Techno sitting back to back, as well as your art of the forest trio at the end, serve almost as mental book-ends for me; I return to them often just to admire it, and to remember how happy it all made me. I can hardly believe it’s been more than two years, goodness.
I was also shocked to hear you may be putting together a playlist—if you would be so kind, I would love to know what songs might be on it! At your leisure of course, and only if you feel like sharing it, the thought alone is more than enough <3 thank you kindly for all of your support, truly, and once again for your gorgeous art. The memories have gotten me through many a dark day.
- Que (WWHWI)
HELLOOO QUEEEE it’s so good to hear from you again :D!!!! And yeah I should really get on getting an account already, it would probably make things a lot more convenient. BUT account or not you’re always welcomed to plague my inbox :]
And waaa I’m happy that you still like the fanart I made! I’m glad it’s stuck with you as much as your writing has stuck with me. SPEAKING OF WRITING I forgot you had so much of it??? Once life settles down a bit im definitely gonna make my way through them, so don’t be surprised if you see my name in the comments later on eheheh
AND YES PLAYLIST!! OK if I’m gonna be honest, the reason I started making this is because of god of war sjshSJDHD Every time I get into new media it only gives me ideas for the old media I’m trying to escape /j Two years man, and still these blorbos live in my brain rent free
I’m gonna ramble about each song now >:D warning spoilers for if you hadn’t read the fic!
First is Cave by Cody Fry! I wanted an instrumental to start it off and a song to represent the explosion of Manburg; I think this song serves that purpose well!
Half-Mast by Branches is a song I use in my other dsmp related playlists to represent Doomsday but it works so well in this context
^ this bit especially reminds me of Tommy and Wilbur ;;;;;
Casualty by Hidden Citizens & Tash is just absolutely perfect for Tommy. The scene of him screaming out in grief surrounded by the rubble that used to be his home- waaa it’s so good, both the song and scene
Sorrow by Sleeping at Last is for Tommy slowly learning how to live after the explosion (or at least learn how to function again :[ pobrecito..)
The Corner Dwellers by The Vocal Few is a Techno and Tommy song! It simply reminds me of them :’]
To Forgive or to Kill by Bear McCreary was chosen mostly for the title and the fact that it was from the God of War soundtrack skdhdhdh Incase you’re unfamiliar with the game, this song plays during a scene where one of the main characters is debating on whether to forgive or kill another character but ultimately realizes that she can’t do either. So naturally I thought this song would be good for when Tommy saves Schlatt from Technoblade! I’d like to have more instrumentals in this playlist but we shall see,, I’m very picky when it comes to instrumentals skdjddj
Carnivore by Bear Attack! Ok I might replace this song with something else later since it reminds me of c!Tommy and c!Dream’s relationship more than Tommy and Schlatt’s from WWHWI. But it’s works for now! Something to represent their first argument chat after the whole getting locked up bit
Marble Floors by Vian Izak & Juniper Vale is here to sorta represent Tommy longing for his life before the explosion and when he still had Tubbo.
^ also just,, this bit.. Ow
Drown by Seafret is for when Tommy gets blown up by the creeper. Just that scene where it starts off as a dream sequence then slowly twists until he’s suddenly shocked back into reality— GOSH it’s so good. And then the crisis he has afterwards when he bandages himself up, it’s probably my favorite scene. It’s so well done and makes me feel so much ;;;;;
Battling Life by The Dunwells is for Technoblade!! (And a little for Tommy too, now that I’m looking at the lyrics again) Gosh, the man gets injured but he doesn’t let that stop him from taking care of things and taking care of Tommy. You captured his perseverance and stubbornness perfectly :’]
Blood Upon the Snow by Hozier & Bear McCreary! Here I go, to shamelessly smoosh two of my interests together again skdhdj This song is also for Technoblade but more for his exhausted god-ness you characterize him with. (Atleast I think he’s a god in WWHWI? Or is he just a well known champion? Immortal? My memory sucks, I’ll have to find out when I reread it) This song is just super cool and reminded me of technoblade and is part of the reason why I started making this playlist skdjdjjd
Brother by Kodaline… what is there to say? They’re brothers :’’] BUT ALSO WHILE SKIMMING CHAPTER 15 EARLIER I FOUND THIS LINE: “"Stay here," he said to the man who'd long since become his family…” HELLO?? EXCuse me while I go sob
Sirens by Oliver Daldry, I may be wildly misinterpreting this song for this playlist but SCREW IT it reminds me of them okay
This repeating lyric serves as a little nod to the fact that this is an au. How Techno, Tommy and Schlatt would have all been strangers in this world if certain circumstances didn’t lead them to eachother
This bit reminds me of Schlatt @ Tommy, I don’t think he ever outright asks for forgiveness but in time they both find some peace with eachother.
All three of them are so different from eachother but they still care for eachother :’]
The Cave by Mumford & Sons acts as a sort of summary of this story to me! I imagine the first verse is from Techno’s pov, the second is from Tommy’s, and the last is from Schlatt’s.
This bit changes meaning depending on the pov. For Techno it’s him taking care of Tommy, ‘changing his ways’ yknow, or atleast adding the family role to his list of titles.
For Tommy it’d be him taking care of Techno, “finding strength in pain” and learning to move forward despite everything that’s happened
And for Schlatt it’s for him rushing out to help Tommy and Techno during the final battle. Man doesn’t even hesitate :’D
Gosh and just the line “I’ll know my name as it’s called again”. All three of them grew into people they never thought they’d be!! And despite a huge part of their lives is shaped from tragedy they’re okay in the end. It was far from easy but they’re okay. And that’s just so comforting yknow? This story is so comforting and beautiful and raw and I just love it with all my being ;;;;;
Wow that was long and a little all over the place lol!! I’m still working on this playlist as I go but that’s all I have so far :]
#I hope you can see why this took so long to answer sjsgsjk#also it makes me so happy that the playlist starts and ends with a song named Cave :]#rozu asks#anonymous#WWHWI

aran for the character ask game !! i love seeing people’s takes on his character
checked off:
they are soooooo cool looking: he’s very pretty and. i’m. yeah. the timeskip??
wasted potential/didn’t get enough screentime: he’s literally one of the top five spikers in the nation, inarizaki’s on-court captain and its ace, the twins’ childhood friend, and a member of the national team and we don’t have a whole lot about him. i wish we’d gotten more of his backstory, his point of view, and especially his presence on the court. i’d love to have seen how he got to his spot at the top, too.
they’re like a blorbo to me: the inarizaki arc is the aran arc actually. it’s all about him. he’s a leader on the court and off it. he’s more down-to-earth than the twins, but he’s more emotional than kita and listens to his heart. i love how he’s a big source of balance for the team and they look up to him so much but he’s not so above it all—his teammates know exactly how to get under his skin and his current concerns and habits show that he’s still just. a guy. he makes references to shows no one’s ever seen and he forgets to throw things away. and he made it!! he’s not necessarily super out there like some of the other characters (see: bokuto, hinata, etc; characters that typically “make it” in this genre)—he’s actually extremely normal—but that doesn’t take away from his power or his abilities and he still goes from top five in japan to one of its national representatives and HHHHGH. he Made It.
they got done DIRTY by fans: he gets ignored all the time and usually takes a backseat in fic if he’s even there at all.
they work better as a part of a dynamic: i love his relationship with the twins and kita. this man is So tired all the time but there’s an odd tendency for people to act like he doesn’t like them? they’re friends. the twins are the obnoxious little brothers he never wanted but got stuck with anyway and i love that scene post-timeskip where atsumu silently apologizes for having taken aran for granted and how on the national team their dynamic hasn’t really changed even though they’ve both grown up. he and kita even each other out and something about aran, an olympic athlete, visiting kita, a farmer in the countryside, scratches my brain so well. i also like the idea of him being a mentor to ginjima, from one Holder of the Braincell to another.
#ojiro aran#riko.txt#asks#ask game#also: forgot to say in the main post but he reminds me a lot of daichi#the same kind of ability to wrangle his teammates. having shades of the simple-and-strong aspect. yknow?

Thank you for thinking up Blorbo Blursday! It’s my new favorite day.
I would like to know more about the relationship between Krieve and Godric. It sounds like my type of friend dynamic.
Thank you so, so much for this ask!!!!!!! And of course! I saw @jacquesfindswritingandadvice blorbo post and literally just thought…haha, Blursday… I know a ton of us writers here love character-driven stories, so it made sense to make it a whole day! I hope it catches on!
So: Krieve and Godric!! I absolutely love their dynamic! In the beginning, they are definitely your classic grump and ray of sunshine pair. King’s Guard Commander Emile Alberich Krieve is a delightfully uppity stick-in-the-mud and Captain Godric Alderswulf is a wonderful golden retriever of a man! They are both incredibly loyal to their home kingdom, to a near fanatical degree, especially at the start of the story. While Krieve is very vocal and obvious about his disdain for other lands during the exchange, Godric….is much more subtle about it, but it’s definitely there (I promise some important character development happens. They are absolutely examples of “you are not immune to propaganda”.) This provides some common ground for the two and at the end of the day, they have massive amounts of respect for each other. They are very much friends and equals. In the story, Krieve and Godric travel for quite a bit of time along with their assigned representatives for the world exchange, so we also get plenty of opportunities to see them interacting together and navigating these unprecedented orders from their king to make nice with the other lands.
They don’t clash so much as simply contrast with one another. At times, Krieve is envious of Godric’s effortless charisma, especially when it helps Godric connect with the representatives that he is paired with during the exchange. Krieve, uh, has a little bit of a harder time connecting with outsiders. At least Godric is there to support him in that endeavor with some well-meaning ribbing!
Commander Krieve scrutinized himself in the mirror. He always kept an impeccably tidy appearance. His shining silver commander’s armor was formal enough for tonight’s ball, though a fine cape hung over his back, its fur ruff making his shoulders appear even broader. He sighed as he swept an errant piece of hair from his forehead.
“Don’t worry. You’ll be the prettiest one at the ball,” Sir Godric said.
Krieve didn’t turn, glaring at Godric’s reflection peering over his shoulder. “The intruder from yesterday. He is taken care of?”
“Oh, him?” Godric scratched the side of his nose and shrugged. “He escaped last night.”
Krieve whipped around. “What?!” He fumbled with the silver clasps of his cape. “How was I not-!? I must leave at once to-”
Godric held up his hands. “I was joking,” he said with a laugh. “The spy has been dealt with, of course. You, on the other hand, seem far too eager to get out of tonight.”
Krieve’s cape was already halfway off his shoulders. He grumbled as he straightened it. “The night is still young, my friend. Perhaps some other catastrophe will happen within the next hour.”

I was trying to check something about Zan (specifically how he got his cat because my memory sucks) and noticed you mentioned a Cain and Emory. More ocs? More fun ocs to hear about?
(Also omg the banner did change I spent 10 minutes trying to see if I misremembered how it looked or if it did change, looks great!)
-oc anon, who finally got some free time
Hi oc anon!! Lemme segment this
1. Zan picked up Shikei off the road after he was hit by a car. He was in a pretty bad state and already old as death but Zan is a goddamn softie and couldn't leave him there to die when he was obviously still alive so he brought him home. Honestly he thought the cat would die overnight but Shikei has a constitution of a cockroach and now Zan has the cuddliest version of satan following him around.
2. And yeah! Cain and Emory are two ocs I'm rounding off the cast with, I've been developing Cain lately (by which I mean coming into Frappe's dms to blab at one am while she's trying to sleep) and Emory's been pickling cuz she's an oc i made in high school so she's in line for a lot of revamping.
Here are some basics, as basic as my ranty self can get!
Cain - ex cultist, current egoist and megaloman, he believes he's destined for something great and probably evil but the good news is he has no idea how to get there and he mostly just sounds like someone who's recovering from staning the dark broody edge blorbo from his shows. His power is cloning and there's A LOT to say about his clones (I subjected frappe to like a seminar) but the important thing is that he can only make 7 clones and it's always the same 7 that are completely aware they are clones and perfectly remember what happened each time they were summoned, so along the time each of them developed their own personalities and relationships and cliques with each other and Cain. Because Cain was raised in a cult he's been lead to believe that these clones represent seven deadly sins. This is not truth they are just normal clones with memory retention but they've all been raised to believe it so they act accordingly. As a group they are all named Abel but usually use their ascribed sins as their name instead. By level of favor from Cain we got: Pride, Greed, Lust, Wrath, Envy, Gluttony and Sloth. At this point in the story they are more or less acting as a hive around the queen bee. They will make their decisions based on what will make sure Cain stays alive and will work against Cain if they think he's endangering himself. They have cliques and truces and pacts between each other and Cain is excluded from decision making like...a surprising amount of time while still keeping the illusion that he's in fact in charge.
Emory - still under construction, Frappe if ur reading this and see things I haven't told you, I wanted to but i always remember it at like midnight and im trying not to bother u when u go to sleep hvhg >.<. Emory's power is shapeshifting with the twist that as she shapeshifts she's also able to copy the persons memories up until the moment she shapeshifted into them. Her father was a burglar and a serial killer who's main shtick was to kidnap someone from the house he wanted to rob, kill them, have Emory transform into, sending her back in their place before anyone notices, do the job with inside help. He may have an inferior version of shapeshifting himself but I hadn't decided on the details yet. Anyway he got arrested via her help and now she's running around being a conman and a petty thief. That's all I got for her rn since I'm still mostly dealing with Cain, but her time to get fleshed out will come soon :3
3. @evaizelsilence ppl are loving the banner! Lmao yeah as soon as Frappe made it she was like 'ill have to do a better background later' n i was like 'u rly dont have to' n she was like 'No I Must' jhbjhbjh i love frappe
#oc anon#oc talk#anon#answered#zan#cain#emory cohen#I hope that was interesting!#im p satisfied with these four#im developing their backstories and goals#and then#i guess we'll see can i make a story out of it huh

ok so @wherearetheplants u replied: "the themes! the progressioN! the platonic side!!!!!!!!!!!! the random facts!!" and I Will Deliver. i will also talk about the transgenderism bc no one can stop me
putting this under the cut bc i cannot stress enough that these blorbos have been in my head for at least 5 (oliver) and 3 (corey) years and i am unhinged about them so nothing i can say is concise
the THEMES !!!!!!!
so their relationship's purpose in the story, narratively speaking, is to show two people who spit in the face of the idea that "you can't be loved by someone else until you love yourself".
they are both people with Lots of problems and low self esteem. but the existence of their friendship + romance is what lets them be a bit braver, and confront their ideas of themselves, in a sort of "well, this person who's amazing seems to like me, so i can't be too bad, can i?".
to be clear, it's not some magical "i fell in love and now i like myself"; it's just that the fact they are each other's most important person means that they have the most sway on each other's lives, and are mutual stepping stones toward each other being willing to start working through their own issues. Others (e.g. Angel) also have an impact in a similar way, but Oliver has the strongest impact on Corey and vice versa.
They're also very heavily about safety and having this anchor that you know you can always come back to. They feel safest with each other, and know they'll never be judged for dark thoughts, strange urges, undesirable symptoms, etc when talking to the other. GFS is, despite the silly title, ultimately a war story, a deeply queer story, and a story about mental illness/disability, and they represent each other's pillar of safety that you need as a queer person or disabled person or someone going through the horrors of war.
god that was so long. uhhh surprise its the PROGRESSION time now!!!!!!!!
so they start out as friends when they are children (like 6-10 ish). this is bc, while their parents aren't really friends, they are allies, united in the middle via piece of shit mentor character Tiff. while they're busy making plans about stopping the Big Bads (since pre-story the previous generation had hoped to stop them before they could even start), corey and oliver are busy having a friendship.
Then, one day, when their parents decide they're old enough (around 10-11), they get dragged into this shit.
they dont know everything, but they know there's Bad Guys and they know they've got to help stop them. and the way the adults present this.... god. corey's mother + tiff, taking advantage of the fact the adults with morals (oliver's parents) had a lot of shit going on with oliver's sister, decided to present it as a game. whoever wins--e.g., learns combat better, does tasks better, does research better, follows their orders better, will get.... uh, love and affection, basically.
from like. 11-15. their relationship fucking deteriorates, because they start seeing each other as the thing stopping them from gaining parental love. it only gets worse when, after oliver's parents + sister move up north but he chooses to stay in the city, tiff and corey's mother get to just be totally upfront about it. corey & oliver start taking out their anger/anguish/misery/confusion out on each other, and by the time the story starts, they're simmering in hatred that's mixed with grief over the friendship they used to have.
over the course of the first two books, with the pressure of the Game removed bc everyone has to do their best anyway, they regain that friendship and become each other's safe point. then ofc the romantic element is added and they essentially are in a pretty healthy but high-stress relationship with each other until the very end, where the high-stress part finally gets to go away. (ik i sped through a lot of that but like. Long Post.))
uhhh. PLATONIC SIDE!
so the reason i call their relationship platonic + romantic is bc part of the significance is that they love each other both as friends and as partners specifically and that shapes how they Work. those things are either on equal ground or the friends part is more important to them. essentially i aro-ified a relationship that is not between aro people (oliver is demiromantic tho)
they see each other as not lovers who started as friends, but friends who also happened to fall in love. like, obviously the romantic side of things is super important to them, but it is not the only thing holding their relationship up. they could break up (They Wont But They Could) and one would still help the other bury a body, or eat ice cream on the couch for three hours bc the other is sad, or talk shit about some asshole in their class together. they're friends first.
RANDOM FACTS AND ALSO TRANSGENDERISM !
oliver is the only person to know corey is afraid of drowning until book THREE
they have a cat they got when they were 10 that they continue to share like divorced parents even when they loudly hate each other in that era of like 14-16
said cat's name is Beans and i love her
corey taught oliver how to do eyeliner when they were 13 but he actually just learned it from a library book the morning before.
thought process of corbin blythe in that situation: "well. he almost hates me. but he wants to do eyeliner. i can tell him i know how to do that. maybe he'll like me again. *tells him.* oh wait shit i dont know how to do eyeliner. library time!"
side note: if you are thinking "hey wait, eyeliner? when does this take place--" shh. shhhhh. it is fantasy. also it is not liquid eyeliner so i get a pass
they have read all each other's favourite books and their opinions are both always either "this is amazing!!" or "darling your taste is shit <3". no in between
THEY ARE TEE FOUR TEE
THAT BRINGS ME TO THE TRANSGENDERISM
corey is a binary trans guy and oliver is genderqueer using mostly he/him pronouns. hes chill with basically any gendered or non-gendered term. gender is his a sandbox and he is having the time of his life. they are t4t and they have a banger and trans-swag-y sense of fashion when they want to <3 (the masquerade scene is something i MUST draw at some point)
that was. so much oh my god. but here you go <3
hello nickeo may i operhaps somehow maybe kinda mayhaps possibly concevablly perchance hear about oliver and corey
of fucking COURSE
however. i must admit. my brain is literally just so full of things about them that i am going to need you to narrow that down a bit. is there anything in particular u would like to hear wrt Them 👀
