✶ Meet the character: Valdís Horiksdóttir + 'Vikings' Season 2 ✶

Valdís Horiksdóttir is the young Princess of Denmark, the 3rd eldest daughter of King Horik and Queen Gunnhild, and the younger sister of Ari and Erlendur Horiksson. At the start of Season 2, she is around 15 years of age and seen as extremely intelligent for her age, finding refuge in books. She appears to be very excited to go to Kattegat since she had never left her home until that point. Valdís is a shy solitary bird, finding solace in being alone most of the time, and reluctant as she attempts to avoid sitting with the rest of the family during the feast, but is caught by Horik. The animosity between Valdís and her older brother Erlendur is evident throughout their time in Kattegat.

Since Valdís was a child, all she wanted to be was a shieldmaiden like her mother but she was always pushed aside by her father. She wants to train and wield a sword like her brothers, just like the heroes in the stories/legends she grew up hearing. Gunnhild tries to convince Horik to allow her daughter to start training, to which he reluctantly obliges. He seems to disown her, since she spent most of her time reading and wandering off during important lessons, seeing she lacked the necessary warrior strength. He was even hesitant to take her with them to Kattegat but decided against it at the last minute. Valdís seems very loyal to her family, considering how she eagerly joined the rest on the long journey but is constantly belittled, underestimated, and picked on by those around her-- indirectly and directly, especially her older brother.

As the alliance between Horik and Ragnar weakens, Valdís starts questioning her loyalty to the family after uncovering a dark insidious plan seeking to overthrow Ragnar.

Torvi is a shieldmaiden, who was trained by Lagertha. She was a princess, was the wife of Jarl Borg, Erlendur and Bjorn and is now the wife of Ubbe, was the mother of Guthrum, Hali and Asa, who all three died. She's the mother of Ragnar and Leja Talvi, her children with her husband Ubbe. She was the second hand maid of Lagertha, has a close relationship with her. Torvi is a caring, beautiful, smart, and strong-willed young woman. Bjorn described her as "having a wildness that can only be just contained," which Bjorn also says is what he loves and admires about her. Torvi is very protective of those she loves, willing to go as far as killing. For example, when she killed her second husband Erlendur, when he threaten to kill her son and attempted to force her to kill Bjorn. Since becoming a shield-maiden, Torvi has become ruthless and more fearless. She does not let her emotions get the better of her. She becomes Lagertha's second-in-command. Torvi is very observant. She is always quick to notice a potential attack. Torvi seems to be more shy and less outspoken with her now ex-husband Bjorn, despite how outspoken she generally is. She has a close bond with Edda and is a part of the shieldmaidens which are subordinate to Edda. With Xenia and Caya she has a strong and close bond and a sister like relationship.

The most important modern study of apparitions

Scientist Dr. Erlendur Haraldsson from Iceland, conducted a survey based on the question, “Have you ever been aware of the presence of a deceased person?”

He then followed up with 450 people who answered "yes". The great majority (67%) said that they had visual contact. The cause of death was known and verified by checking official records for about 80 percent of the cases; in 30 percent of these cases, the person had died violently. The percentage of violent deaths in the study was almost four times higher than the percentage of death by violence in Iceland during the relevant period.
