Trolley Times : The Farmers’ Way Out Of The Bogus Media Narratives
Farmers at Delhi's border reading a copy of the first edition of bi-weekly newsletter Trolley Times.
On Friday morning of 18th December 2020, as the ongoing farmers’ protest entered its 23rd day, those stationed at the Singhu and Tikri borders of the national capital woke up to the first-ever issue of a bi-weekly newsletter, exclusively by and for the protesters : Trolley Times.
When national media, with its bogus narratives, did not show their side of the story, the farmers paved their own way aiming to touch every single corner of the kilometres-long agitation at Delhi’s borders and ensure that the message from the stage, latest developments in talks with the government and other such reports are easily accessible to the agitating farmers.
Born out of a random conversation at a trolley about 4-5 days back, the protestor’s very own newsletter received a warming response with all of its 2,000 copies, which costed around Rs.12,000 to be printed in Gurugram, being distributed and read widely by those at the site. Seeing the wide support to the first edition, the Trolley Times team now aims at releasing its second edition with 10,000 copies.
“Inquilaab di talwar vichaaran di saan tey tez hondi ae (the sword of revolution is sharpened at the whetstone of ideas, a quote by Bhagat Singh),” read one of the lead headlines of the bilingual newsletter that has been named Trolley Times.
The newsletter is printed in both, Gurumukhi and Hindi, so that it reaches as wide protesting audience as possible.
The Rationale Behind Trolley Times
The first issue of the paper carried Bhagat Singh’s quote on struggle; photographs from the centre of the struggle; story of a woman farmer, Gurmail Kaur, who died during the protest; some works of art and the lead article gave the message of unity, struggle and victory. The paper was simultaneously launched digitally on all social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
A farmer reading out the ‘Trolley Times’ at the Singhu border.
The style of the paper, as said, will be conversational. “We want it to be read like the discussions taking place in village sath (common place),” the team says when asked about the newsletter, adding “we have a platform now to counter all kind of trash being dished out by some sections of media”.
The team added, “ We reached here on 26th November and soon after the national media began calling us terrorists or Khalistani. But we are not those people at all. We are very attached with how to make this a peaceful protest”.
Just try to imagine the extend to which the national media is losing its credibility and how it has increasingly been focusing on interests of a certain section of the society that others have now felt the need of starting their very own form of news media. Certainly has some sense of Atmanirbharta in it, quite a satire in itself.
The national media, yet again, left no stone unturned to divert the issue by calling it a one-state protest, politically-mobilized protest, maoist protest, Khalistanis, freelancers, or their favourite term - anti-nationals. Imagine what a farmer must be going through when he’s being tagged with such terms when he’s so far away from home, out there on the ground, shivering in this freezing weather, being water canon-ed in this weather, while all he’s been doing is asking to be heard about his issues and requesting for an another way for the concerned policies to be carried out.
The government says that the protesting farmers are being “tricked” by the opposition, yet again of course, with false information and narratives. A quick reminder, these are the same people who wrote the opposition off in 2019 general elections relentlessly, just like 2014, but still apparently the weak and dusted opposition, if any in this nation, gets able to “trick” people every time the government is held accountable.
There has not been a dialogue between the government and the farmers now for around 18 days, keeping the deadlock intact. Time will tell how the drama unfolds ahead, but the farmers now have been out there in the open for more than a month, and atleast 44 of them have succumbed to the extreme weather, and still standing their ground.

Chanda Kochhar told Dhoot to invest in hubby’s co: ED
MUMBAI: Former head of ICICI Bank Chanda Kochhar had in 2009 told Videocon group chairman V N Dhoot, whose loan applications had been pending with the bank, to invest money in her husband Deepak’s company, said the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in its chargesheet filed recently. The documents attached to the chargesheet show that in Pacific Capital Service Pvt Ltd (PCSPL), one of the companies belonging to Kochhar, an office boy who served tea was shown as a director and had a stake in the company. Sharad Mhatre, the office boy, said that he was taking care of Deepak’s father and briefly worked as a driver with the family. He told the ED that he would sign documents on instructions from Deepak without knowing the content. Dhoot in his statement to the ED said that it would have been detrimental to his interests if he had not agreed to it. Videocon group invested Rs 64 crore ino NuPower Renewable Pvt Ltd (NRPL), a company controlled by Deepak. The ED alleged that Chanda misused her position in the bank to sanction a loan to Videocon group after violating rules and received kickbacks in the form of investments in her husband’s company, Nu-Power. The ED submitted the chargesheet against Kochhars and Dhoot before a special court on November 4 and annexed these statements to it. Dhoot told ED that Deepak asked him to invest in his company and insisted that he meet Chanda, who was then heading the ICICI Bank. Officials said that Chanda told Dhoot to “take care of her husband’s interest by putting money in his company”. Dhoot claimed it was because of this that he transferred Rs 64 crore of the Rs 300 crore loan disbursed to his group company by the ICICI Bank. The ICICI Bank in all had sanctioned Rs 5,393 crore loan to Videocon group companies in different tranches during the tenure of Chanda, of which the principal amount of Rs 2,812 crore turned bad. The collateral kept with the bank was not in proportion to the loan sanctioned, said the ED. The ED alleged that the loan to NuPower was not intended to be returned to Videocon, because a group company, Real Cleantech Pvt Ltd, which was created for holding the proceeds of crime, was allowed a silent death. The company was struck off in 2018, to break the link of returning the NuPower loan money to Videocon group, said ED. The Videocon group initiated the process to revive Real Cleantech after the ED started to investigate the money laundering case against it in 2019, all to show that money diverted to NuPower was a legitimate investment and returned to the Videocon group. Deepak has been controlling NuPower since its formation in 2008, through PCSPL, which was formed in 1999. Most directors of PCSPL were Deepak’s relatives or employees.

· One of the veteran value investor Anil Kumar Goel has been invested in the company for a long time, current stake (Dec 2019) is at 4.44% (Increased gradually). His stake in Dec 2015 was at 3.67%. Seema Goel holds 1.19% stake. Combined stake at 5.63%. Most of the stake was bought in low double digits. He has a fantastic track record of taking really long term bets.
· However the stake came down to 4.54% in March 2020 as 10.87 lacs shares were sold as an invocation of pledge on 26th March 2020 making the 52 week low. Refer Link
htps://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachHis/4C7A1A36_57F1_4A43_AF85_3ADB71513D14_193122.pdf . The sharp fall in price led to the invoking of pledge it seems.
· 10.87 lakh shares sold on 26th March. Total Delivery Volumes = 11.38 lakhs on NSE. Almost 95% of the volumes!!
· The next day onwards the stock started hitting upper circuits and from a low of 92 the stock is back at 200.
· The Balsharaf family holds 3.33% stake. ED holds 2.76% stake. There is a litigation going on between Balsharaf family and Enforcement Directorate.
Refer :https://indiankanoon.org/doc/61425710/
· M/s Pabrai Investment Fund purchased ~65 lacs of KRBL Ltd on 12-02-2018. The counterparty was Balsharaf family and ED nullified the trade which got Mr Mohnish Pabrai saved as the buying price was 594.
There have been a few concerns on KRBL - https://www.business-standard.com/article/markets/krbl-slips-13-as-ed-attaches-properties-in-embraer-defence-deal-case-119070500346_1.html
At a price of 90-100 the market cap was much below the inventory in the company. Promoters have been buyers roughly around the 200 price zone.
Last 10-15 year chart.
At 100 the stock was back to the price of end of 2014.
Mohnish Pabrai bulk deal was close to the top and pledge invoking right at the bottom.
All time high was 670 in Nov 2017
52 week low was 92 on 26th March 2020
Conclusion
Many a times the stock prices may fall because of margin selling or forced selling due to various reasons. One needs to differentiate is the company leveraged or the investors in the company are leveraged leading to selling.
One needs to study and be convinced to accumulate the dip as reversals could also be very sharp and may not give an opportunity.
In Bear markets Investors Balance Sheets decides the prices of microcaps and smallcaps.
KRBL could still be an interesting company to study given that long term debt is negligible and a strong brand.
