The E3 2013 trailer for Super Mario 3D World features an oddity whereby the top left corner of the screen shows two Green Star outlines in a regular level at one point.
In the finished game, all regular levels have 3 Green Stars, and only Enemy Battles, Captain Toad levels and Mystery Houses deviate from this with 1, 5 and 5/10/30 Green Stars respectively.
It is possible that at some point in development, there were varying numbers of Green Stars within the levels, with some having more and some fewer, which was then equalized in the finished game to make it easier to remember how many Green Stars are left without needing to consult the HUD in each level.

You, sir, have been to church. Very good. (x)

Welcome under the cut!
Now that you’re here, I advise you to sit down for a minute while I talk at you about this post.
It’s been sitting in my drafts since February. I actually got around to screen capping and gif making as soon as I finished season 2 and 3 of Da Vinci’s Demons. I had already watched the first season back in 2013. And I’m pretty sure I was the only one watching it. Well, there was me and the mysterious stranger who put it up on this one illegal streaming website that I’m not even sure exists anymore.
However, everyone else was all about ice zombies and fire-proof dragons back then, so I had nobody to talk to about it. I ended up having GOT watch parties with my friends and putting DVD in the back of my mind.
Now, why did I binge two entire seasons of decade-old television? Because Pinterest recommended a couple of Count Riario (Blake Ritson) pins to me and I experienced a flashback to my first ever exam season. Yes, I did take breaks to snack on junk food and watch David S. Goyer’s Renaissance Men Fight Demons (Bisexuality).
Why, yes, the show does have the same producer/head writer as Batman Unburied! The man sure loves himself some Tortured Geniuses (Leonardo & Bruce) and Catholic Guilt-Ridden Serial Killers (The Harvester & The Count in the last season). And so do I!
Alright, you can get up now!
Thank you for reading!

For those of you who are curious about this, here’s all the data I gathered for the counter I made:
Far Cry was first introduced as a demo at E3 2002, which started on May 22, and was released 671 days later, on March 23, 2004.
Far Cry Instincts was announced only 15 days after the release of Far Cry, on April 7, 2004, and came out 538 days after that, on September 27, 2005.
Far Cry Instincts: Evolution and Far Cry Instincts: Predator were announced and released together, on January 11, 2006, so 106 days after Far Cry Instincts came out, and on March 28, 2006, so 76 days after their announcement.
Far Cry Vengeance was announced 128 days after that, on August 3, 2006, and it took 131 more days for it to come out, on December 12, 2006.
Far Cry 2 was announced on July 19, 2007, 219 days after the release of Vengeance, and came out 460 days later, on October 21, 2008.
Far Cry 3 was announced at E3 2011 during the Ubisoft conference on June 7, so 959 days after the release of its predecessor, which is the longest time so far! Then, it came out 541 days later, on November 29, 2012.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was announced 123 days later, on April 1st, 2013 (genius move), and released only 29 days after that, on April 30, 2013.
Far Cry 4 was officially revealed on social media on May 15, 2014, 380 days after Blood Dragon became available, and came out on November 18, 2014, 187 days later.
Far Cry Primal was announced 322 days after that with a trailer on October 6, 2015, and it took 140 more days for it to come out, on February 23, 2016.
Far Cry 5 was first introduced with a series of teaser trailers posted on May 22, 2017, so 454 days after Primal, and finally came out 309 days later, on March 27, 2018.
Far Cry New Dawn was revealed via a short video posted on social media on December 5, 2018, 253 days after the release of its predecessor, and was available only 72 days later, on February 15, 2019.
Far Cry 6 was officially introduced on July 10, 2020, shortly before the Ubisoft Forward livestream and 511 days after New Dawn came out. The game was initially scheduled to come out in February but had to be delayed, partly because of the pandemic, and was eventually released on October 7, 2021, 454 days after its announcement.
The last Far Cry 6 expansion, Lost Between World, was made available on December 6, 2022, 425 days after the release of the main game. Since that day, there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding the next Far Cry game.
I was also wondering how many days there were between the release dates of all the main games in the franchise. The answer is:
1,673 days between Far Cry and Far Cry 2
1,502 days between Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3
719 days between Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4
1,225 days between Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5
1,290 days between Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6

Breath of the Wild Was Too Ahead of its Time
It has now been over a decade since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was first revealed at E3 2014. A game that still feels fresh, especially with its recent sequel, has captivated audiences since its release seven years ago. The journey began on January 23, 2013, when series producer Eiji Aonuma announced that the new mission for the series would be to “rethink the conventions of Zelda.”…

During E3 '98, Fujitsu announced a TEO spinoff called "BioPunX".
Tumblr media
It never released and the trademark was abandoned in 2002. Very little evidence of this game exists beyond a few publications.
Tumblr media
"The latest product that is intended to appeal more to men is the computer game " BioPunX "."
- Wirtschaftswoche - Volume 52, Issues 46-49 - Page 116 (1998)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"This is a simulation program, featuring four "BioPunX" creatures. Each has a unique personality and attitude. The idea is to train them so they can complete a mission. Not yet reviewed."
- Complete Sourcebook on Children's Software (1999 and 2001)
Tumblr media
"...a new generation of games in which artificial creatures save the earth in 3D animation. Anyone who wants to can even communicate with the "Biopunx" using voice recognition."
- DIE WELT: Mehr Glück im Computerspiel (27.08.1998)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1999, Fujitsu Interactive went out of business. However, Shigetoshi Akasaki, the president of Fujitsu Interactive, announced that the game was still being worked on in a GameSpot article a year later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two years after this announcement, the "BioPunX" trademark was officially abandoned.
Tumblr media
In 2013, the rights to "Biopunks" and "Biopunx" were acquired by some German lawyers who have held onto it ever since.

This wasn't really Fin Fin related but I just wanted to talk about this because nobody has compiled info about this game anywhere else.

Love reading all the new articles and updates about Dragon Age and it's really hard at this point to reign in my expectations. The gameplay showcase made me want to go back to the Inquisition demos that I watched during 2014 that got me super hyped. I was curious just how much from those gameplay reveals didn't make it into the release version of the game; I could remember bits and pieces that I was disappointed didn't make it in, but going back over these vids I'm shocked at just how much was overpromised in the months leading up to release. The demos Bioware showed during 2014 were a completely different beast from the final game. Just in the PAX (Sept 2013, so a year pre-release) and post-E3 demos (Jul 2014, four months pre-release) we've got:
Different camera controls allowing for a more over-the-shoulder style, very similar to what we've seen for Veilguard actually
Combat while moving for mages, as well as drastically different combat animations for everyone, including autoattacking with one's hand rather than the staff
Hyperviolence that never made it into the final game like that one enemy being magicked into a skeleton
The mounts actually speeding up travel
Promises of dwindling bear numbers in the environments the more you kill
Environmental things like boats actually moving across the water in real time
Dynamic events and attacks on the keeps the Inquisitor can claim, rather than the keeps sitting around
On that note, I didn't even remember one of the most bold-faced lies during that Crestwood demos "You can burn these boats to cut off the Red Templar's retreat", crazy stuff
Big choices like choosing between saving villagers or saving your keep
The promise that you can upgrade the keeps once captured
That whole cutscene with Varric that didn't make it into the final game
The content from that post-E3 demo in particular is from pretty much where Veilguard is now. You can see in this IGN vid from August 2014 (roughly two months pre-release and two months after the post-E3 demo) just how much changed in that marketing cycle.
Something I think is really interesting about this retrospective is just how much the gameplay of this unrealised Inquisition game is similar to the Veilguard content. Does that mean that the Reveal gameplay, with the camera POV and smooth action combat isn't representative of the final result? I should hope not. I would hope that the faster gameplay is what Bioware has been aiming towards all along, and have just been stuck with platform limitations until now.
Anyway this was an interesting exercise in examining my own history with the games and why I take everything Bioware tries to market to me in the next few months with a very healthy dose of skepticism. Don't get me wrong, the game looks great, but Inquisition also looked a little too good to be true in a lot of aspects

It looks like there's leaked footage from the Gamescom/E3 2013 demo for SoT. It takes place during the School Attack and has some UI differences. Tweek's voice is also unfinalized and it sounds like Stan. Here's the link to the video: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x146qwl

In the E3 2011 demo of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, a different pause menu theme from the final version was in the game, which can be heard in this post. While the melody is very similar to the finished version, in that version, the volume of the woodwinds is turned down while the volume of the pizzicato strings is turned up, making the melody harder to discern. The melody appears to resemble the folk song "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow".
Interestingly, it was this version of the theme, and not the final version, that was included on the 2013 Japan-only "Year of Luigi Sound Selection" CD, available as a reward for Club Nintendo members.

🏙️ A canceled SimCity game between 2003 and 2007?
In the early 2000s, Maxis was clearly working on several new projects, one of which was believed to be the next installment of the SimCity series. In a November 2003 review of The Sims 2 on The Sims Zone, it was mentioned that at that time, Maxis was already working on the "next SimCity" (possibly SimCity 5), although the game had not been officially announced. At the time, the EA jobs page hinted at an ongoing project. However, the game was never released, and no further information about it was made public.
Maxis is also working on several new projects. These include the next SimCity (SimCity 5?), which is not yet announced, but is being worked on as we can see at the EA Jobs page at the time of writing. Will is also working on a secret project, which I can't really tell anything about. Since there were rumours of his next project at the E3 2002 (read this) and E3 2003 (right here), I think it's quite likely this game will be presented at the next E3 in May 2004. That means it will probably be released late 2004 or early 2005. However, this is pure speculation and nothing has been confirmed about this project whatsoever, and I could be wrong by a year, or the Maxis may even cancel the complete project (which I think is unlikely, but it's happened before with SimsVille and SimMars, to name two never finished projects). Maxis is keeping any details of this new game secret at the moment, and we'll probably have to wait another couple of months before we'll get the first pieces of (confirmed) information. However, it is commonly known that Will is working on something new again, and has been for quite a while already. It's a matter of a lot of patience to get the first information, which The Sims Zone will of course report about.
The secret project by Will Wright, also mentioned in that review, later turned out to be Spore, which was released in 2008. This is confirmed by a tweet from Jake Simpson, where he states that Wright was already focused on Spore and wasn’t actively involved in other projects.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not going to reference Will too much in these stories because while Will is considered The Father of The Sims, he wasn't actually around that much. Will is very much 'been there, done that', and while he was available for consultation, he was already off in Spore Land.
Interestingly, in 2007, SimCity Societies was released, but it wasn’t developed by Maxis. Instead, it was created by Tilted Mill Entertainment, the studio known for Caesar IV. The next proper SimCity installment by Maxis came out only in 2013. A 10-year gap between these games raises questions: was there a canceled version of SimCity during this period?
Maxis has precedents for canceled games, such as SimsVille and SimMars. It’s possible that studio was indeed working on SimCity 5, but the project was shelved before reaching the announcement stage.
