Ahh, the healing power of Pelmeni!
(I scraped up my knee and got no ice in the house so now I'm using a pack of frozen pelmeni)
(I was on an e-scooter on a road with no sidewalk close to where the asphalt of the road ended while it was raining and I was listening to music in headphones while cars were also driving by)
(No shit i almost fell on my face and also scraped my knee and palms)
(Seriously don't be a moron like people)
(but also you got to do what you got to do yk)

Get Your Shit Together - Chapter 8
genre: 2024 and onwards AU, with the 2024 starting grid.
pairing: Romantic!oc x that triangle y’all voted on. Platonic!oc x the whole grid.
warnings: swearing, mentions of physical crimes, discussions about gangs, mentions of bars and alcohol. Besties arguing. talk about the accident in chapter 4.
context: Part 1 and Masterlist…
comments: this is a little bit of a time skip filler chapter. But it also sets up Oscar's feelings. I went for the whole he fell first/he fell harder but instead of about each other, about Sadie.
Oscar was frustrated. Very frustrated. It was a description that barely covered how he felt.
He knew his team could see it, and knew equally that they had no idea how to handle it. They had worked with drivers who exploded far quicker than him did but Oscar never so much as boiled.
The calmest man on the grid was simmering away and no one knew what to do.
It was Thursday, and Oscar was already in Abu Dhabi, prepping himself for media day, but it had been over a week since the trial had started.
Someone’s safety had never mattered to him so much before. Oscar wasn't surprised at the feeling, Sadie was dealing with some very dangerous people. The Australian was surprised at how it had consumed him. He was pacing. Pacing.
“For fucks sake!” Came Pato’s voice through the wall between their driver’s rooms. “I can hear you, Oscar! I love you man, but go for a run or something!”
And Oscar did just that. He didn’t even put headphones on. He just knocked on the wall twice to let Pato know he’d heard him and left.
Oscar pushed himself. Hard. He ran and he ran and he ran. Nothing mattered but his feet drumming against whatever surface he found himself on. He kept running and running until someone pulled their e-scooter up right in front of him.
“Shit,” he halted abruptly. “Sorry, I-“
“What the hell, Piastri?” It was Max.
“I needed to move,” he muttered.
“You've been running for an hour. You're going to exhaust yourself before the weekend even starts. What’s wrong?”
"It's Sadie," he admitted on a deep breath.
Max, pulling his Red Bull cap off, swept a hand through dirty blonde hair. "I haven't heard."
"Me neither."
"She can look after herself."
But Oscar noted the tightness to the Champion's jaw and a raised eyebrow told Max just as much.
"Let's go." The Dutchman muttered and led the walk back towards the hospitalities.
"What?" Oscar pressed.
"Nothing."
Frustration rippled in his gut again. "You two love to hide things."
"Get over it. These aren't my secrets to tell."
"Fine."
There was an uncomfortable silence but Oscar hoped it would prompt Max to say something about Sadie. Anything.
It worked.
"She congratulated you on Qatar."
"I wish I could thank her."
"Maybe you can one day."
"At this rate, that's a big maybe."
"Yes, but there is a chance."
"And I'll hold onto it," Oscar promised. He had promised himself something similar when she'd driven away from his mother's house.
The rest of the walk was silent until Pato, surrounded by three of McLaren's media team, saw them.
"There he is!"
And Oscar was handed a bottle of water, a wrap and thrust into discussions for that week's Youtube content.
----$----
"That's P3, mate," Oscar's engineer relayed and he let out a massive sigh of relief.
"Thank you everyone," he said into his radio. "That was a hard one. Thank you to everyone in the garage and back at the factory."
"Well done, Oscar. You've ended fourth overall." Came Zak Brown's voice.
Oscar couldn't find the energy to respond. He pulled his car to a stop in front of the 3 sign. He saw Charles and Max holding each others forearms, their helmets together and a string of laughter and shouts coming from the two. Oscar hauled himself out of his car and flipped his visor up.
The McLaren mechanics pulled him into massive hugs and slaps to the helmet. He laughed and laughed, the sound bubbling from him in surprised bursts.
He had beaten Lewis Hamilton, George Russel and Carlos Sainz. In a McLaren, he'd outlasted, outpaced, outmatched both the Mercedes and a Ferrari. And he'd done it consistently enough to end fourth. Fourth overall.
Max turned and, Charles mimicking the gesture, beckoned him over. He joined them and the elation in his heart could not be matched. He may have earnt P3 before, hell he'd gotten a better result the weekend before, but he was standing, laughing, with the confirmed champion and the runner up. Oscar was standing with them.
Time blurred as they made their way to a cool room, and then to the podium. Up there, holding his trophy with a broad smile on his face, Oscar had a thought that stuck with him.
I wonder if Sadie is watching.
----$----
She was.
Sadie smile at her phone, amidst the pitch black of her bedroom at 2 am in Melbourne. Max, the man she'd ego-checked all those months ago, was a four-time World Driver Champion and, smiling broadly beside him was Oscar Piastri. The feed cut to Lando, looking up at Oscar and Max with more pride on his face than Sadie had thought possible. His teammate, and his friend were both up there and grinning down at him.
Even though the screen Sadie could see the laughter in Oscar's eyes.
She hoped that she'd be able to congratulate them in person one day. Maybe one day.
----$----
Angst is coming. Idk when, but it is. Plus, I haven't made y'all any promises about comfort and I won't.

Right! So, in light of the fact that it's been a couple of days, I have a PSA for all of you:
Riding a bike? Rollerblades? A skateboard? A scooter?
WEAR A FUCKING HELMET.
I saw firsthand what a difference that makes. I'll be blunt: a family member was recently hospitalized due to a bike accident.
Said family member was a little messed up, but is now firmly on the mend. And that's because said family member is RELIGIOUS about always wearing a bike helmet.
If my family member wasn't wearing a helmet, I don't know if they'd still be with us.
Get a bike helmet. Wear it every time you're on a bike, a scooter, an E-bike, or anything. Get one that fits. If it smashes into anything, if it's in an accident, it's useless- you need a new helmet.
Wear a fucking helmet.
Helmets save lives.
Thanks for your time.
This post sponsored by the swarms of people I see on bikes every day NOT WEARING HELMETS.

My PHD thesis is that the aggressiveness of drivers is correlated with vehicle size and power with a minimum reached for compact sedans and hatchbacks with a modest power-to-weight ratio (for vehicles that can be driven without a special license).
Anything smaller (motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, e-skateboards) is correlated with asshole behavior through two mechanisms: the "Cocky SOB" mechanism where people think they're so maneuverable and in tune with their surroundings that traffic laws shouldn't apply to them because they can just swerve away from any potential accident (also applies to sports car drivers and some more powerful small or mid-sized cars e.g. Big Altima Energy) and the "You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses!" effect where they believe their lack of crashworthiness means they can be as reckless and/or aggressive as they want and intimidate other road users with the threat of having someone's blood on their hands. Motorcyclists also have the "small yappy dog" effect where knowing they're driving a deathtrap makes them be as loud and obnoxious as possible "so people notice them." (i.e. "You don't understand, man, an exhaust that rattles windowpanes in a 5 city block radius is a safety feature!")
On the other hand, driving anything larger (SUVs, pickups, vans, rental box trucks that any idiot can drive) is increasingly correlated with entitled bullies who think driving a larger vehicle that will "win" in a crash gives them the right to drive aggressively via the "Whoever has more lug nuts has the Right Of Way" rule.
This hypothesis successfully predicts that Teslas, especially cybertrucks, should have the shittiest drivers on the road due to being both big and heavy and capable of very fast acceleration. It also successfully explains why cops almost always drive either motorcycles or bulky sedans and SUVs.
This follows up on other groundbreaking research in the field of Douchebagology, such as Everyone Driving Slower Than Me Is An Idiot, Everyone Driving Faster Than Me Is A Maniac, Everyone Driving the Same Speed As Me Is Camping In My Fucking Blind Spot.

feel free to ignore this if you want but i think a lot of non-asians/non-europeans don't know what a scooter can be! like those motorbikes restaurants use for deliveries with the lockboxes are also scooters here...... and even if his is an "e-scooter" like you said e-scooters with seats are basically as big a vespa. he could've easily crashed into someone. he got his license revoked for a reason! unfortunately hybe is not above mediaplay and maybe even behind the scene "talks" w the police..... we'll have to see
got a k-pop anon bc of my random untagged posts about the drunk driving scooter fiasco i'm screamingggggg
no ykw i'll post this bc you make a good point. htg i read 'kickboard' in the original statement and went 'oh....... so those two-wheeler scooters with the batteries then. yk the e-versions of the childhood scooters. still not great but maybe he'll survive this' and then i saw the grainy CCTV and was like. that is not a fucking kickboard. i've seen those delivering shit in my neighborhood a couple years back i've seen one almost get into an accident bc they couldn't drive in the bike lane and a sedan kept tailgating them this is serious shit. honest
and yeah the kind of retractions and story spinning HYBE has been doing to try and clean this up is embarrassing. have him put out an apology saying he didn't know you weren't supposed to operate these things after drinking (?????) and he took his helmet............. k-netizens saw the helmet line and went 'oh so he does this regularly then. makes it his business to be driving while intoxicated' that is not the kind of press you want rn especially while the police are still investigating.
he already isn't getting punished by the military since it happened off-duty so idk. we'll see if HYBE gets something done behind the scenes to get the charges dropped with just a fine but the size of that thing is definitely leaning more towards car status than anything else
#inbox#q: anon#also idk what the options are over in Korea but ik here depending on the severity in certain states + your BAC they'll have you go to#those rehabilitation courses as part of your sentence. that also doesn't look good#plus the amount of idols that have left groups or gone on hiatus bc of their drunk driving incidents.................... hmmm.#i sense some shit on the horizon#news: why the fuck you lyinggggggggg (scootergate)

Hi! God I missed you so much!) Welcome back!
Thanks! And sorry for getting to answering this late!
Lots have been going on actually in the life outside of Tumblr. I was in Sweden for two and a half month without any Wi-fi and got my hip placed back in place properly.
It was out of place, due to a hiking accident seven years ago and the doctors (of course 🙄) didn't find a thing and didn't know what's wrong with me, when even I could feel a the bone of my hip sticking up against my skin and against my right groin bone.
Due to always only laying around and pumping myself full of strong painkillers (that didn't even help and were very bad for my heart) to at least cope with the daily pain a little better, I got scoliosis and my muscles in legs and back went pretty much bye-bye, which is why I'm still quite unstable and have to wear a corset (which is annoying).
I've also had water in my thighs. In fact, so much that I couldn't even bend my knees properly anymore. And I was pigion-toeing very heavily to the point where my toes would almost touch each other or I would stumble over them often, while I was only walking on the outer space of my feet because of the hip misplacement.
Thanks to the treatment though I can finally walk properly and I'm not in pain anymore. I also lost a lot of weight during treatment with luke-warm lemon water to manage to discharge the trabbed water in my thighs and around my stomach. So now I'm about half my former weight! I lost 18 inches around the stomach.
Since I hope to go to Sweden again someday, I'm currently trying to learn Swedish and it's going quite good so far!
Recent events also had it that I got to care for a carrion crow! I suspect that it's a female and called her Elischeba, or Elli for short. My Mom found her in the morning when she went out for work barely three weeks ago.
Right now Elli is undergoing a worm treatment. These worms are living and multiplying in her lungs and giving her trouble breating, so they got to go.
However, when I made my way to the vet the first time to deliver a poop sample to the vet with my E-scooter, I've spontanously decided to pick beef with the pavement and it went out 1:0 for the pavement (According to a friend of mine the scooter said aveda kedavra 😂). After my tumble to the ground I felt very dizzy, disoriented and very nausous. And my hearing went woosh for a few minutes.
Though the X-ray didn't show a thing and I suspect it's just simply heavily sprained. I still can't move or bend my wrist and it started bruising pretty badly. But I think that it'll be fine in the end.
That was the update so far :)

Have an escooter? Please consider wearing a downhill helmet to protect your face
As someone whose relatives have escooters, and someone who has seen a lot of close calls with strangers, I wanna share a little-known bit of advice for anyone who's looking into escooters, or who already has one:
If you're on an escooter, you get the most protection by wearing a downhill or full-face helmet!
DO NOT GO HELMET-LESS!
By 'downhill' or 'full face', I mean the helmets that bmx riders use, or motorcycle riders wear, respectively. It sounds like overkill but here's the thing:
Escooters have a very high center of gravity because you're upright on them, and they have small wheels that don't absorb impact very well. It's super easy to go over your handle bars if you even hit a tiny pothole! According to this study where 212 patients presented to an emergency room, 11.8% of the patients had dental injuries
A lot of these patients presented with facial lacerations and facial fractures. Overall, 44% of patients needed surgery (5.9% needed major surgery and 38.2% needed minor surgery), and 50% needed maxillofacial follow-up
All 212 patients in this study received a head or face injury. 82% of patients didn't wear a helmet
Some more articles explaining dental injuries from escooter use:
Dental injuries on the rise thanks to e-scooter use
New study from U of A professor warns of dangers of scooter usage
In this Korean study, most patients without a helmet suffered some kind of facial trauma
This isn't just a matter of speed, either. If you're not convinced how often people go over the handlebars at lower speeds too, check out the first 25 seconds of this video by Electric Scooter Guide. That's a lot of faceplants at lower speeds! Or if you want a full playlist of people going over their handlebars, I've got you covered. Again see how many of them are faceplants!
And at higher speeds? It's not good. MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING for gore and death: here you will find a graphic picture of someone who was in an escooter accident, they weren't wearing a helmet and they sadly lost their life
I'll link some reddit posts of close calls where the posters were really glad to be wearing downhill/full face helmets, these are either text-only posts, or simple pics of scratched-up helmets: 1 2 3
Most of these accidents don't even involve other people or vehicles! According to this infographic, 80.2% of escooter accidents are 'falls':
So, now what?
If you don't currently have a helmet and are considering getting one, yay! Your first impulse might be to go out and buy a regular bicycle helmet, but remember: a lot of these injuries happen around your jaw and the front of your face! A bicycle helmet doesn't protect that part! When you fall on an escooter, you're likely to fall in ways that are different from a fall on a bike. So consider a downhill helmet (or a full-face, if you wanna channel your inner motorhead)!
Yeah you'll look dorky, but you'll get home in one piece if you get unlucky on the way there 👍
#i was on my way home and saw a THING omg they were so close to hitting their face my heart skipped a beat#if even one person sees this post and remembers it i'll be happy#escooter#escooters#e-scooters#psa#safety#scooters#micromobility#commuting#ninebot#segway#electric scooter#electric scooters#injury ment cw#injury cw

i keep seeing helmet discourse on my dash and as someone who commutes daily by bicycle in amsterdam my honest thoughts are “girl idk”
some people wear helmets on e-bikes and most people wear helmets on race bikes
we tend to have many separated bicycle zones and we learn to ride a bicycle from a very young age, i don’t remember ever being told to put a helmet on while riding my bike, i do remember my bicycle safety exam in elementary school, which means you need to practically and theoretically know and apply the bicycle safety rules and regulations
bicycles usually have right of way over cars and cars/scooters/faster vehicles are always the ones who get in trouble over bicycles during an accident
“why don’t europeans wear helmets?” some do
“why don’t dutch people wear helmets while cycling?” girl idk
#helmet discourse#helmets while cycling#cyclists#ITS JUST NOT COMMON#idk why!!!#why doesn’t America prioritize walk paths over more lanes for cars in urban planning

Electric Mobility Scooter: Everything You Need To Know
Whether you’re looking for electric mobility scooter or electric wheelchair, there are a few things that you need to know before purchasing one. Mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs are designed to help people with limited mobility and their caregivers get around more easily and safely, so choosing the right one is crucial.
There are many different types of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs on the market, each one better suited for particular conditions than others.
In this article, we'll discuss what makes these types of vehicles different from one another, how they work (and don't), how to choose the best option for your needs — including what types of features you should look for when shopping around — as well as some common questions about using them (like whether they're legal on sidewalks).
What do the different classes of mobility scooters mean?
There are three different classes of mobility scooters:
Class 3: These are the most powerful and have a top speed of 12 mph. They can be driven on the road, in addition to being able to travel in off-road areas such as parks and bike paths. Due to their high speeds, they are considered motor vehicles by law and require registration with your local DMV.
Class 2: These provide good performance for an affordable price, making them ideal for short commutes around town or longer trips when traveling outside city limits. Their maximum speed is 8 mph, but you can still use them on the road if you're over 18 years old and have held your driver's license for at least one year (in some states).
Class 1: Also known as "personal mobility devices," these devices come in at just under 6mph (or 9km/h) with a range of up to 8 miles (12 km). They do not require registration or insurance because they don't meet federal definition standards for motorized vehicles; however, if you drive one off-road then it must be insured against liability claims stemming from accidents incurred while operating it on public land like trails or sidewalks nearby private property where parking isn't allowed without permission from someone who lives there -- not just anyone who happens upon your travels through woods near where they live!
How much will an electric mobility scooter cost?
Electric mobility scooters can cost anywhere from $1,300 to $5,000. This range is largely dependent on the brand and features you want in your scooter. As with other types of mobility equipment, it's important to research the quality and reliability of the brands before purchasing one.
For example, a basic electric mobility scooter made by a low-quality brand may cost under $1,500 whereas a higher-end model from a reputable company might be closer to $4,000 or more.
How do you maintain and store a mobility scooter properly?
It is important to store your folding mobility scooter in a dry location and out of direct sunlight. Moisture can damage the electrical system, or even rust the frame. If you have limited storage space, you may want to consider getting one with folding wheels so that it can be stored in a smaller space or on an indoor rack.
To keep your e-scooter looking great, wipe down any dirt or debris off of its surface regularly with a damp cloth - this will prevent grime from building up over time!
Be sure not to use window cleaners or other harsh chemicals - they could damage the finish on your mobility scooter's paint job over time (and make it look like crap).
Conclusion
All in all, we can say that the future of electric mobility scooter is bright. They're becoming more affordable and accessible, so you don't have to pay thousands of dollars up front. Plus they're easy to use and don't require a lot of maintenance or upkeep once they're set up properly!
