Just your friendly neighborhood menace!!
(This is a spiderverse rp account.)
Iām Spider-Weaver! But most spider-people just call me Weaver. Iām 19 years old and I live in New York.
Any pronouns but They/Them is the most accurate
Only Spider People allowed below the cut
My name is Carmen. I go to Cornell University and Iām a bioengineering major. I got my powers in a lab accident at an internship with my best friend Collie. We both got bitten by different spiders.
I donāt know why there were so many radioactive spiders in one location, but Iāve been investigating the sponsor of the lab, Luther Brown. I have reason to believe that he is a supervillain. (Heās rich)
Anyway, this has been my audition for spider-society?? Please let me in! Gābye!!
Ooc: so I have a whole notes page for this character that I made years ago so Iām just gonna copypaste it here so yall have more context
Weaver
The Splendid Spider-Weaver
Origin
Weaver was an arachnologists intern to make money during their junior year in college. They worked alongside their best friend, Collie. The lab was in the middle of a top secret experiment exposing different types of spiders to radiation to try and identify the kind of spider that bit the original spider-man and therefore discover some of his weaknesses.
When spider-man learned about it, he enacted a virtual attack to corrupt the data. This, however, caused a panic in the lab, leading to a few of the spiders escaping.
One of the many bit Weaver. This particular spider was a Splendid Dwarf Spider.
Weaver, after discovering what had happened, started to investigate the lab and itās funders. Namely, Luther Brown, a shady young man with a strange obsession with spider-man.
Abilities
Weavers super abilities are limited, but enough.
The webs they produce arenāt the normal āspider-manā webs and are rather cotton like Sheet Webs. Though they are still sticky, they canāt shoot out in strings like the original Spider-manās can. Weavers webs are used mainly for sticking, securing, and padding. (Weaver is quite a bit smaller than their suit suggests, but the stuffing of web makes it much safer for them to fight and be places that are high up.)
Weaver does have a healing factor, though it is weak.
They have minimal super strength, limited to the weight of a standard car.
Weaverās main ability, however, is psychic. When the spider bit Weaver, their vision split into four, making it quite a headache for them to see anything. In their normal day attire, they have a pair of glasses designed to stifle the other three sights. In their suit, however, they have eyes built in to effectively split the sights into different paths that feed a computer interface and interpret the signals. This gives Weaver thermal vision, and mind reading capabilities. The last sight that Weaver gained from the spider was something that Weaver considered to be a personās āvibe.ā With this information, they were able to code a system to identify the vibe and hypnotize people. Keep in mind that hypnosis only works with getting people to do things they arenāt opposed to doing.
Weaver also excretes toxic jelly from their fingertips involuntarily that can cause people to pass out.
Core beliefs
Nemesis
Weavers nemesis is the aforementioned Luther Brown. A rich, straight, cis, white boy that has way more power and money than he could ever earn. He was born into a billionaire family and uses insider trading to game the stock market and only get richer. He is a Viola player, and though he is very talented, most of his orchestra positions and solos were bought rather than earned. He has followers by the barrel that seek out information for him. As previously mentioned, he has a strange obsession with Spider-man rooted in admiration and jealousy.
His alter ego is known as the recluse. A cannibal that leaves viola music playing at every crime scene he makes. He tends to leave the victims head at the crime scene as well.
He gained his abilities from being bitten by the brown recluse spider at the lab. He did this on purpose to gain similar abilities to Spider-Man however slightly stronger so that Recluse could capture him of so desired.
Recluse, though well known and feared to the civilians, is under no investigation by the police and never appears in official news. Though the crimes are reported, the offender remains nameless despite having a name. This is because Luther Brown has paid off the police to not investigate these mysterious murders.
Possible dialogue
Recluse: You know, Collie will die
Weaver(pissed): now is not the time to be threatening me
Recluse: itās not a threat. Itās a prediction. All spider-men have had a caretaker figure die, and yours is Collie.
Weaver: good thing Iām not a spider-man then
Recluse(smug): then what are you?
Weaver: Spider-Weaver
Recluse: many spider-men have had different names
Weaver: Iām not a man
Recluse: then what ARE you?
Weaver: a communist
Recluse(getting annoyed): whatās in your pants?
Weaver(rifling through their pockets): I got some doubloons, uhhh, a mint, you could use that, and I got this (flips him off)
Recluse: >:(

Welcome!
Choir screen from the Cathedral of Valladolid, ca. 1763-64, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Photo taken June 4, 2023.
Visio divina
For my Summer 2023 formation for ministry class, I am employing the prayer practice Visio divina on a weekly basis by contemplating art (and the art found in Creation) and scripture through meditation/prayer. Prayer, art, nature, and travel? Yes, please!
I've chosen the choir gate as the art for week 1. The gate is a massive piece that spans the gallery at the Met, dwarfing everything around it. Its history is shown in a photo below.
How did I end up at the Met? My son and his fiance took the train up to NYC from Baltimore and asked us to meet them before flying out to OK and China, respectively. Of course, we had to meet up at the Yale Club (that serves Yale, UVA, and maybe Dartmouth alumni). It's quite frou frou and very fun, but we were too late for brunch -- the room was being used for a Drag Queen Brunch. The sounds from that party that floated up to the library were awesome, and I did step out onto the floor and try to crash the party, but my son dragged me back into the elevator. Shame.
No cameras allowed at the Yale Club, but you had to use your camera to see the rules, so...yeah, I took a pic cuz I'm a smartass.
(Duke, Notre Dame, Cornell, and Brown alums who like the idea of the Yale Club can actually join the Cornell Club in NYC -- I'd look into it but I've managed without it this long (Go Irish!) so I doubt I'll join after my time at Duke. As I'm continuing in ministry, I also doubt that I'd want to fork over the dough for it, but a girl can dream. I do like nice things, and the Yale Club is fun!)
We weren't going to sit around a club all day, nice as the library was, so we headed to the Met hoping for art, public restrooms, and a rooftop view of Central Park. Two out of three: the line for the single elevator to the roof snaked all around one gallery and none of us had patience for it. As we headed for Egypt, we ran smack into a beautiful collection of religious art not housed at the Cloisters. I didn't actually smack into the gate, but I felt quite gobsmacked and a little dizzy leaning all the way back to look at its height.
Navigate to this page and click on the LISTEN button to hear more about the gate and its history. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/201926
The verses
I've selected II Peter 1:11 (LB) for my meditation on this choir gate:
"And God will open wide the gates of heaven for you to enter into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
That's good stuff on its own, but just look below at the treasure trove of faith declarations that precede it!
II Peter 1:1-11:
"The faith I speak of is the kind that Jesus Christ our God and Savior gives to us. How precious it is, and how just and good he is to give this same faith to each of us.
2 Do you want more and more of Godās kindness and peace? Then learn to know him better and better. 3 For as you know him better, he will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: he even shares his own glory and his own goodness with us! 4 And by that same mighty power he has given us all the other rich and wonderful blessings he promised; for instance, the promise to save us from the lust and rottenness all around us, and to give us his own character.
5 But to obtain these gifts, you need more than faith; you must also work hard to be good, and even that is not enough. For then you must learn to know God better and discover what he wants you to do. 6 Next, learn to put aside your own desires so that you will become patient and godly, gladly letting God have his way with you. 7 This will make possible the next step, which is for you to enjoy other people and to like them, and finally you will grow to love them deeply. 8 The more you go on in this way, the more you will grow strong spiritually and become fruitful and useful to our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But anyone who fails to go after these additions to faith is blind indeed, or at least very shortsighted and has forgotten that God delivered him from the old life of sin so that now he can live a strong, good life for the Lord.
10 So, dear brothers, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen, and then you will never stumble or fall away. 11 And God will open wide the gates of heaven for you to enter into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The meditation
Ready to join me? Reread the passage (I prefer the NLT for more inclusive language and clear phrasing -- the LB used the phrase "gates of Heaven," so I felt obliged to use it.) Scroll up to the picture of the gate, examine the art at your leisure, and let the words of the scripture lead your thoughts as you settle into prayer with God. How does the iron relate to the Word? What about the piece grabs your attention? Why did the artists use this design? How does its use in a church relate to the scripture passage? How does viewing the gate affect the way you feel about God today?
What words stuck with you when you read the passage? What phrases do you keep coming back to? How do you feel about them? Do they inspire you? Anger you? Confuse you? Are you ok with this?
After you think your thoughts, be still and let God speak to you.
(See, prof? I was paying attention! Thanks for leading me.)
Info and photos for perspective. Note how the first cross section of the gate doesn't even make it into the shot. Massive, beautiful, skilled work that functioned in a religious setting. Amazing! God is good in this crazy life!

Oh, we have that here! We also have dwarf birch and dwarf dogwood (cornel), although neither are quite this tiny.
Speaking of willows. There's a species of willow. Salix herbacea. Known as the Dwarf Willow. And this thing. IT ONLY GROWS 1-6 CENTIMETERS TALL. IT'S KNOWN AS "ONE OF THE SMALLEST WOODY PLANTS" BECAUSE ITS A TREE THAT DECIDED TO BE 1 CENTIMETER HEIGHT

A recent study published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters examines a rare alloy molecule known as chromium hydride (CrH) and its first-time confirmation on exoplanet, WASP-31 b. Traditionally, CrH is only found in large quantities between 1,200 to 2,000 degrees Kelvin (926.85 to 1,726.85 degrees Celsius/1700 to 3,140 degrees Fahrenheit). Therefore, astronomers like Dr. Laura Flagg in the Department of Astronomy and Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University refer to CrH as a āthermometer for starsā, as CrH is traditionally used to ascertain the temperature of cool stars and brown dwarfs. For the study, the researchers analyzed the transmission spectrum of WASP-31 b using a combination of data from March 2022 and archival data from 2017 to ascertain that WASP-31 b possessed CrH within its atmosphere. The reason why the 2017 data was included in this current study was because it was initially not used to identify metal hydrides. āPart of our data for this paper was old data that was on the very edge of the data set. You wouldnāt have looked for it,ā said Dr. Flagg, who is lead author of the study. For context within our own solar system, CrH has only been identified within sunspots on our Sun, with Dr. Flagg noting that the Sun is too hot (surface temperatures of approximately 6,000 degrees Kelvin (5,726.85 degrees Celsius)), and all remaining objects within the solar system are below 1,200 degrees Kelvin. Discovered in 2010 using transit photometry by the WASP project, WASP-31 b is located approximately 1,252 light-years from Earth with a radius just over 1.5 times larger than Jupiter and a mass just under half of it, as well. Its orbital period around its F5V main-sequence star is 3.4 days, making WASP-31 b a āhot Jupiterā. For context, our Sun is designated as a G-type main-sequence star, with F-type main-sequence stars being slightly larger along with exhibiting slightly higher surface temperatures (~6,300 degrees Kelvin). That WASP-31 b is as cool as it is despite its parent star being hotter than our own Sun makes this finding all the more intriguing. Artist impression of āhot Jupiterā exoplanet, WASP-31 b. (Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA) Dr. Flagg specializes in using high-resolution spectroscopy to identify and study the atmospheres of exoplanets, while also studying the formation and evolution of exoplanets orbiting young stars, as well. Spectroscopy involves using light to determine what elements might be present based on their color within the electromagnetic spectrum. For astronomy, this means using spectroscopy to study exoplanet atmospheres by measuring the parent starās light passing through it. In the case of WASP-31 b, spectroscopy was used to measure the light from its parent star to identify CrH within WASP-31 bās atmosphere. āHigh spectral resolution means we have very precise wavelength information,ā said Dr. Flagg. āWe can get thousands of different lines. We combine them using various statistical methods, using a template ā an approximate idea of what the spectrum looks like ā and we compare it to the data, and we match it up. If it matches well, thereās a signal. We try all the different templates, and in this case the chromium hydride template produced a signal.ā Dr. Flagg notes that sensitive instruments and telescopes are required to identify CrH due to its rarity, even at the current temperature. While the research team states this is the first confirmed detection of CrH on an exoplanet, this research builds on a 2021 study which reported the first evidence for CrH in the atmosphere of WASP-31 b, but those researchers stopped short of calling it a confirmed finding based on their data at the time. With this new confirmation of CrH, the team notes this could open doors for using high-resolution observations for studying exoplanet atmospheres, going as far as saying WASP-31 b will not be the last exoplanet where the presence of CrH will be confirmed. How many more exoplanets will astronomers confirm the presence of CrH throughout the cosmos, and what can CrH teach us about exoplanet atmospheres in the coming years and decades? Only time will tell, and this is why we science! As always, keep doing science & keep looking up! The post Astronomers Find a āThermometer Moleculeā that Only Appears When a Planet is Between 1,200 and 2,000 Kelvin appeared first on Universe Today.

Exoplanet may reveal secrets about the edge of habitability
āSuper-Earthā LP 890-9c (also named SPECULOOS-2c) is providing important insights about conditions at the inner edge of a starās habitable zone and why Earth and Venus developed so differently, according to new research led by Lisa Kaltenegger, associate professor of astronomy at Cornell University. Her team found LP 890-9c, which orbits close to the inner edge of its solar systemās habitable zone, would look vastly different depending on whether it still had warm oceans, a steam atmosphere, or if it had lost its water ā assuming it once had oceans like Earthās. āLooking at this planet will tell us whatās happening on this inner edge of the habitable zone ā how long a rocky planet can maintain habitability when it starts to get hot,ā Kaltenegger said. āIt will teach us something fundamental about how rocky planets evolve with increasing starlight, and about what will one day happen to us and Earth.ā Kaltenegger is the lead author of āHot Earth or Young Venus? A Nearby Transiting Rocky Planet Mystery,ā published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters. LP 890-9c is one of two super-Earths orbiting a red dwarf star located 100 light years from Earth, researchers announced last year. They said liquid water or an atmosphere rich in water vapor was possible on LP 890-9c, which is about 40% larger than Earth and circles the small, cool star in 8.5 days. Those criteria suggested it to be one of the best targets for JWST to study among the known, potentially habitable terrestrial planets, in addition to the TRAPPIST-1 system. The teamās models are the first to detail differences in the chemical signatures generated by rocky planets near the habitable zoneās interior boundary, based on variables including the planetās size, mass, chemical makeup, surface temperature and pressure, atmospheric height and cloud cover. The calculations were key to estimating how much time JWST would need to confirm the basic composition of an atmosphere ā if there is one. The models span several scenarios thought to reflect stages of rocky planetsā evolution, ranging from a āhot Earthā where life might still be possible, to a desolate Venus featuring a carbon dioxide atmosphere. In between are phases Earth is expected to experience as the sun grows brighter and hotter with age, causing the oceans to gradually evaporate and fill the atmosphere with steam before boiling off entirely. How long those processes might take is unknown, and the astronomers say LP 890-9c provides a rare opportunity to explore that evolution. āThis planet is the first target where we can test these different scenarios,ā Kaltenegger said. āIf itās still a hotter Earth ā hot, but with liquid water and conditions for life ā then the timeline is slower than we thought. If we see that itās already a full-blown Venus, then the water gets lost fast.ā Itās possible that LP 890-9c has no atmosphere and hosts no life, or that it resembles a Venus with thick clouds that would block light from reflecting and thus yield little information. Deeper investigation promises to provide valuable clues, Kaltenegger said. āWe donāt know what this planet on the edge of habitability could be like, so we have to look,ā she said. āThis is what real exploration is about.ā

āThe Kissā Ā Dark!Yandere!Nancy Wheeler x Fem!Reader )Part 2(

You had been studying with Nancy for your midterms for a few days now, and alternating between reading Frankenstein. You entered the home, it seemed strangely empty. Mrs Wheeler was usually home by now, and Mike should definitely be home. He said on the Walkie-Talkie he would be there before meā¦ never the less you walked up the steps and to the door of Nancyās Room.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Nancy opened the door so fast it was as if she was waiting there. āY/N!! Just give me a moment, I need to get cleaned up.ā You waited outside for a while and Nancy let you in. She had a radio in her room, that was new. āOh! You noticed! I got it a while ago, Robin and I saved up some money for it, so I figured we could listen while we study today. Are there any stations you prefer?ā You shook your head and suggested simply music. As the two of you went through your Flashcards and Cornell notes, the music came to an abrupt stop.

The bell rung, but you werenāt going to leave. You had rehearsals today for your schoolās production of Grease! You were somehow chosen as Sandy. Everyone, including yourself, thought that local cheerleader and absolutely angel Chrissy Cunningham, but nope! It was you. And by some miraculous chance Steve Harrington auditioned and got the role of Danny. Every time you asked Steve about it he said it was a dare from Billy and he hadnāt even seen Grease! But In the past few month of rehearsals, Steve was becoming a bit of a Thespian.
The kissing scene, the easiest yet most difficult thing to rehearse. āHey listen, itās not like weāre actually in love or anything right?ā Steve laughed. āI mean, the way she sung Hopelessly Devoted, I would say she wants to marry ya Stevie!ā Carol butted in. You rolled your eyes and took a sip of your water. āIām right here Yknow. And Iām just a little nervousā¦ā Carol gasped. You knew what she was going to say. You gave her a glare cold enough to freeze a Hawkinās Summer. āHey listen, you donāt have to do the kiss, I can convince the teacher to change it to a hug or a fake kiss! Whatever makes you comfortable, alright Y/N?ā Steve Fucking Harrington, the sweetest jerk youāve ever met. You couldnāt help but feel safe around him. He had thisā¦ mom-ish feel to him. As hot as Ralph Macchio, if not hotter. And as sweet as Dopey (yes, the dwarf).
You finished rehearsals and rode your bike on the way to Mikeās house.

āHawkinās Radio is having an abrupt stop to announce that the remains a local person was found approximately 20 meters away from Hawkinās Highschool. Who would do something like this? āFuckā you turned to Nancy āD-Do you think itāsā¦one of themā you shuddered at the thought of those monsters. Nancy was about to console you when suddenly, almost conveniently, the phone rang. Nancy got up to answer, āRobin, baby, you alright?ā You couldnāt hear the rest of the conversation except for Nancyās worried responses. āOkay, stay safe, I love you.ā She hung up. āIām really sorry about that Y/N. Robin had someā¦ issues to sort out.ā
You sighed and turned the radio back on. Nancy was holding you, you couldnāt help but shake in anticipation. āAccording to athorites finding an intact finger, it can be determined that the victim was Steve HarringtonāNancy dug her nails into you at that very moment. Your heart sunk, thatāsā¦ thatās not right. Right? It couldnāt be. āY/N, Iām so sorry.ā It sounded more directed to you than to the situation. āNance?ā You said wiping your tears. You had fallen asleep. She wasnāt there. āWell did they find anything else? What about Y/N?ā She sounded soā¦ guilty. And to think about it. What type of Highschooler knows 4 languages, including Russian. And demogorgans donāt chop people up. Dwarf Cornel plants (converted from Planet Zoo)
Me after playing with Planet Zoo for 3 days: But what if I converted all the plants?
Well, I definitely wonāt be converting all the plants, but maybe some I like? I started with this one for some reason XD There are 5 sizes! The smaller ones are repoād to the large one. And theyāre seasonal! So you might need the Seasons EP? Idk. Theyāre between 33 and 385 polys. The footprints are a bit funky for the large ones because I used that auto-expanding footprint trick, so I wouldnāt have to add more objds, but they were just a hair larger than what the sensible footprint would be so *shrugs* Sims walk around them just fine, but you might need to use moveobjects if you want to place them closer to each other.
Anyway, please enjoy :)

Bunchberry (Cornus canadensis), also known as dwarf cornel, is a clump-forming perennial that could easily be mistaken for an herbaceous forb but is in fact a creeping shrub - a miniature dogwood. One of the plantās other common names is creeping dogwood. Bunchberry produces four to six deeply-veined, elliptical leaves, which are arranged in false whorls near the top of a short stem. The plantās flower, which appears in late spring to early summer,Ā consists of four, ivory-white bracts surrounding a greenish-yellow umbel; it closely resembles that of the flowering dogwood. The flower is later replaced by edible, berry-like drupes. In Central Appalachia, the cold-hardy bunchberry grows at high elevations in boreal forests. In the right environment, this plant makes a stunning ground cover for native plant gardens. The above photos were taken on the summit of Spruce Mountain and at Spruce Knob Lake.

"BROWN DWARFS ARE AS PLENTIFUL AS STARS IN OUR GALAXY"
Ā A new study featured in the Cornell University Library suggests that the Milky Way may be home to 100 billion brown dwarfs - about one brown dwarf per every existing star in our galaxy. A brown dwarf is known as a failed star because it does not ignite like a star to fuse hydrogen into helium. Instead, these gaseous objects appear like planets but form like stars (they do not start off as rocky bodies like planets). Ā By undertaking an extensive survey of RCW 38, an ultra-dense star-forming cluster around 5,500 light-years away, researchers discovered the same ratio of brown dwarfs as in five other surveyed clusters going back to 2006. Unlike previous studies, RCW 38 is an environment in which stars live fast, gain mass then die young in supernova explosions. This similar ratio in differing environments suggested a fairly uniform distribution of brown dwarfs across the galaxy. Ā āWeāve found a lot of brown dwarfs in these clusters. And whatever the cluster type, the brown dwarfs are really common,ā Alex Scholz, an astronomer at University of St. Andrews, said in a press release. āBrown dwarfs form alongside stars in clusters, so our work suggests there are a huge number of brown dwarfs out there.ā Read more about this fascinating story at: http://www.astronomy.com/news/2017/07/100-billion-brown-dwarfsImage: RCW 38 with several faint brown-dwarf candidates
