It's exceptionally weird that some of the most important developments in footballing tactics came out of philosophical and intellectual thought, considering how vilified sporting intellectualism can be.

The entire idea of the false nine is rooted in the coffee house culture of Austria and Hungary in the 1920s and 30s, from discussions and thought building upon the ideas of a couple of british expats who coached there, though I don't know if the idea itself ever stemmed from those scenarios specifically. It was a bunch of café intellectuals who laid the basis for a role that didn't reach its wider acceptance until around 2010.

Ralf Rangnick was completely mocked by the German footballing establishment for thinking about football tactics in the way he did in the 90s, yet he's the starting point for Germany's biggest area of influence in modern football, pressing. If Klopp hadn't picked up Rangnick's ideas, then there's a good chance the entire idea would have fizzled out.

The entire basis of Dutch, Ajax, Barcelona, and Spanish football comes from two Englishmen whose view of how football should be played was thought on and iterated upon by Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff, Louis van Gaal, and Pep Guardiola, all of whom were or are thinkers on football.

And then England just has a culture where it's actively detrimental to be a football thinker. Good for me, I suppose

Xavi Simons x reader

The dutch national team had planned a gala at the end of the season, filled with all of the players, coaches and sponsors. It had gone well for Xavi. He had lots of goals, assists and other great moments to look back on.

As you made your way inside the rented building, Xavi's arm hanging loose around your middle, you were hit by the scent of alcohol and loud music.

As you walked further inside, you were greeted by his teammates. "Hello, y/n, nice to see you." Virgil greeted you, as you hugged him.

You took a step back as Virgil and Xavi did their 'bro hug,' "Likewise,"

Xavi tuns to you as he asks"I am going to look for the rest, do you want to come to or stay here?"

"I will talk to some other girls," you answer and he nods. He gives a quick kiss on the head before turning away to look for the rest of his friends.

You made your way towards the bar, where you saw some other wags seated and talking with each other. " Hello," you greeted and they all turned to look at you with smiled on their face.

" Y/N" one of them said excited as she stood up to give you a hug. " Long time no see."

You say down next to her and interewined yourself with their conversation. You talked about the season and the upcoming one. The plans you had for holiday and how yoir life was going. It was nice to catch up with them.

After some time you got up from your seat," I am going to look for Xavi. I see you around." You said your goodbyes and walked away.

Before you could walk over to Xavi, an men got in front of you with a sly smirk on his face," Well, Hello. I don't think we have met."

He grabbed a drink from the bar and turned back to look at you. " I got a drink for myself, do you fancy one."

" Thank you," smile as you take a sip,

He stood in front of you as he held a hand trough his hair, " What do you do, as if i have never seen ypu before."

Before you could say anything, your body was spun around as Xavi placed a kiss on your lips. You almost wanted to freak out before you say who it was. You heard the footsteps walk away with a groan as you pulled apart.

"What was that for?

"Does he not know we are together," Xavi asks into your ear as the hold on your hand stronger. His gaze was focused on the back of the man that was just talking to you, sending a dagger look to it.

A sly smirk is plastered on your face as you look at him, "Are you jealous, Xavi?" He wants to turn his face away but you grab it, turning it to meet your eyes. A look of irritation is written on his face as he shakes his head.

"I am not jealous. " he states as he clicks his tongue, "I am asking a reasonable question. He was all over you."

You shook your head and took a little sip of your drink, "he wasn't all over me. We were just having a normal conversation, no flirting."

"You were having a normal conversation, he was planning how he could make you leave. " You roll your eyes as you look at him. You wanted to take an other sip of your drink, but Xavi stopped you, "Where you got the drink from. I thought you forgot your wallet."

"I did, but he got me one." he says as you point towards the man you were just talking too. He had already made his way towards another woman. Xavi scoffed as he grabbed the drink out of your hand and put it on a table.

He grabbed your hand back in his and pulled you towards the bar, "Lets get you a new one. A drink bought by your boyfriend." you just smile at him as he takes out his wallet and orders your favorite drink "And I am buying a bigger initial for around your neck." your breath hitched in your throat as he played with your necklace.

as you see him walk out the dressing room you're like???? what do you think you're wearing??? and he's so confused cause you have never commented on his outfits before, unless its to compliment him so he's all like what?? just looking at you confused. and you just stare at him with an expression that tells him he's being so dumb right now. but he's still not getting it so you have to spell it out for him. telling him that the grey sweats and compression shirt combo is lethal to anyone who sees him and that you're finding it hard not to jump his bones right now and make him late for training. he smirks over at you laughing as you glare at him making sure he hears you call him a slut as he walks away.
