Ok but Eddie knows how to make food stretch out. He knows how to work with what he has because Wayne can't always afford food. Thats how he finds himself constantly making something weird. He has pasta but nothing to go with it, so he just pours ketchup over the pasta and seasons it and calls it good. When he doesnât have bread most times theyâll have left over tortilla wraps. Bologna wrap it is. It gets weirder and weirder of course but he doesnât have the luxury to be picky.
Steve on the other hand doesnât know how to cook but has everything he needs. Follows recipes word for word and most times orders out. Heâs to anxious to push boundaries when it comes to food not wanting to mess it up. So when he suddenly finds himself watching Eddie make the strangest shit in his kitchen heâs confused.
Somehow it turns into bickering and a bet that the other couldnât spend a week with the other at their place. The first week Steve finds himself and the Munsonâs and he hates the food. Though he discovered he loves being there with Wayne. He eases back a bit and Eddieâs shocked by how much the other likes the trailer. He thought he would be to snobby to stay there longer then a night.
When Eddie gets to spend a week with Steve at the Harringtonâs he hates it more then he thought. Itâs lonely, and very empty. He can barely go two days. The food is amazing but other then that it isnât working. Even though he doesnât have a lot of luxury he is happy where he is and Steve is more happy being with him.
They both learn to grow past the financial situations they grew up in and focus on other things. Like each other. Even though Eddie has to teach Steve how to cook. Though they can happily meet on a middle ground when they move in their own apartment. More middle class then trailer park trash and a snobby asshole. They both live happily.

if mike was straight, stranger things would've ended after season 2
#straight mike isn't real he can't hurt you vs stranger things fatigue#anyway i can elaborate on this#season 2 is a false ending#someone died but it was just bob and they used that to make sure no one ELSE died#mike might have gotten caught in the tunnels but he was rescued! it's fine! everything's fine! he's at the snow ball with el it's FINE!!!!!#and then season 3 picks up and everyone#they expected it to be over#i know that's a thing EVERY sequel season but in 3 they're all WEIRDED OUT by it#it takes them SO LONG to accept that the ball's rolling again#because they bought the false ending! the straight mike ending!#what do you mean it's back on? everything's fixed isn't it? mike should be happy#happy heart happy life#but no he's being unnaturally annoying and pissing everyone off and saying that plot activities are STRANGE#when he's the ONE person who's historically been like wdym? this makes perfect sense#when it's actually the weirdest thing in the world#but now Unsanctioned things are happening. hopper's fucking off with joyce to another state and mike did not Approve of it#it's Weird he says#This can't be a coincidence He says#as if he didn't make that call#which goes against his dungeonmaster role#as does his inability to track down dustin when he VERY MUCH WANTS to find dustin#and the plot usually rearranged itself to grant mike whatever he wants#not this time! you want hopper and dustin? sorry. they've been taken off the board. your move#there's a paradigm shift is what i'm saying#within mike both on a character level and on a plot level#what's the plot again? people being flayed aka possessed aka taken over by an external force and made to act unlike themselves?#fascinating#surely not relevant to the main character who's suddenly acting unlike himself though#certainly not#st posting

El being wholesome with Steve. El being wholesome with Steve. The weird sibling duo we didnât know we needed. I need more of it. I might do itâŚ.no Iâve done enough of themâŚ
Okay, okay. But just picture this:
The kids trying to embarrass Steve all the time with photos and stories to Eddie, but El ruins it every.single.time. because she is so unbelievably wholesome when it comes to Steve.
Here is everyone pulling out scoops photos (which Eddie actually loves thank you very much) and sharing stories about his failed dates. Dustin tells Eddie specifically about the time he was teaching Lucas basketball and Lucas threw the ball too hard at the backboard and hit Steve in the face.
So they are all poking fun at Steve in his and Robinâs apartment (because in every universe these platonic soulmates live together) and there is just El who randomly chimes in:
âSteve took me to this thing called a ren faire once. It was very fun. We both looked really pretty.â
Eddie absolutely melts at the story and gushes over the photos she has.
And everyone gets quiet every time, because no one wants to criticize El, but one time Max gently goes, âYou know thatâs likeâŚ.nice right? Weâre making fun of him.â
Everyone one expects her to being embarrassed or confused but instead she simple says.
âI know. I donât like it. Steveâs nice.â
And she embarrasses everyone, except Robin and Eddie who are the only ones Steve never gets upset with when they make fun of him. They all mumble out apologies, and Steve turns to Dustin and goes:
âThis is why she gets a special section in the freezer. All different flavors of eggos.â
Elâs eyes get wide. âEven the blueberry ones?â
Steve gives her hair a tousle, âEspecially the blueberry ones.â

BYLER GATES: A GUIDE
(Explaining all the different theories, for anyone who is also lost with how many there are)
THE BIG 4
Flickergate: This theory involves a lot of time shenanigans and is connected to the Will having powers in s5 one (possibly manipulation of time or electricity). Theory claims Will and Mike will kiss in the UD, specifically outside Mike's garage, paralleling 1x01. Will is going to tell the truth at the same time his s1 self is ("it was a seven"), causing the garage light to flicker on Nov. 6th 1983.
Birthdaygate: This theory suggests that the Duffers didn't actually forget Will's birthday is March 22nd (the day of the rink-o-mania incident). It claims that Vecna is actually manipulating the characters' memories (possibly even Will's), making them forget his birthday in the process, maybe in an attempt to make him feel excluded/lonely and making him vulnerable. (Similar to the beginning of Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets, which happened to be on the inspo board for S4)
But also the Creel murders themselves happened on March 22nd.
Churchgate: More UD kiss related theories! This one claims Will is going to get Vecna'd or possessed in the Upside Down church (and that he's going to hurt/choke Mike in the process). With a crazy amount of religious symbolism, Mike would be the one breaking him out of his trance, through a kiss or a confession.
(More thorough explanation here.)
Lettergate: This gate's truthers believe that Mike did actually write to Will in the time period between s3 and s4, but never sent the letters. Said letters (signed "Love, Mike") are going to make an appearance in s5, revealing his true feelings. (Great post that has to do with this gate here)
Also related to:
OTHER GATES
Pocketgate: Very connected to Lettergateâ˘ď¸, this theory has to do with Mike's infamous triangle shaped pocket in S4. It suggests that the letter signed Love, Mike is hidden in said pocket throughout s4, since it very closely resembles an envelope. Triangles have also been used in ST as a queer symbol (with Robin) and Mike's pocket consistently points to Will like an arrow.
Phonegate: Kinda similar to the previous two, this gate claims Mike did actually call the Byers in Lenora. For some reason, the calls didn't go through, either because of Joyce's telemarketer job OR because of Vecna manipulating things again (cough, birthdaygate, cough).
This is backed up by one of Dustin's lines, saying that the Byers' phone line is always busy and Mike won't stop complaining about it. We know he must have been calling WILL, since the whole reason he was communicating with El using letters is that they couldn't talk on the phone.
Loverslakegate: Related to Lovers' lake (obviously). The lake is shaped like a heart, tying into its name, but it was split in two after the gates opened, now resembling a broken one (and Mike is ofc referred to as "the heart" so it could be a reference to him).
According to this theory, Mike and Will are going to kiss/become lovers near said lake/Reefer Rick's house.
Heartgate: To put it simply: Heart reflections EVERYWHERE. This one is better explained through pictures:
Also: Different heartgate but really interesting
Colorgate: I don't think I have to explain this one tbh but anyway
Blue meets yellow in the west.
Mike and Will have been HEAVILY associated with blue and yellow respectively since the beginning of the show (even wearing eachother's colours in both of their arguments). There's an insane amount of evidence that backs this one up.
It's speculated that the Russian code in s3 was foreshadowing for s4 ("The silver cat feeds when Blue meets Yellow in the west") Silver cat: Vecna who started killing when Mike (Blue) met Will (Yellow) in the west (California, literally west of Indiana)
Curtaingate: "They don't spent their lives trying to get a look at what's behind the curtain [...] They like the curtain. It provides them comfort, stability, definition" -Murray 2x05
Mike and El are pretty consistently framed in front of CLOSED (and more often than not, yellow) curtains, or ones that have closed blinds. According to this theory, closed curtains represent not being honest with one's true feeling. So, the truth about Mike's feelings is beyond the curtain and in s5 he will open it (and come out)
Motelgate: This one has to do with the dreaded two day time skip at the end of S4. Theory claims the Cali crew stayed at a motel during that time skip and the scenes were cut for time, but we'll flash back to them in s5. It's based on a photo a production assistant posted from the New Mexico filming, as well as some bts pics of the Cali Crew playing board games in a motel.
Shoegate: In S4, we see a pair of Will's shoes in his bedroom. In s5, Mike seems to be wearing that exact pair. This, in addition to the fact that they wear the same shoe size (a 10 according to their rollerskates from 4x02), lead people to theorize they will share clothes/shoes in s5. More importantly though, this theory suggests Mike is figuratively being put into Will's shoes (maybe pining?). Also, both of them wear the same shoes they wore in s2. Interestingly enough though, even though the design is the same, the colors are reversed (so their roles will be reversed too).
Possessiongate: This one runs DEEP so I'm going to link a bunch of posts
To put it VERY simply: this theory claims Vecna somehow attached himself to Mike (maybe when the vine grabbed him by the leg in the S2 tunnels- right before he started acting weird in s3 and s4) and he has been influenced/possessed for some time now.
He's not the dungeon master anymore, he's not in control. Both in s3 and s4 someone ELSE is the DM when they play D&D (Will and Eddie respectively)
More here and here
Victimgate: Very closely related to the previous one, this one suggests that MIKE was originally supposed to be Vecna's 4th victim instead of Patrick. Since Max escaped the first time, SHE ended up being the last victim but the original plan was for it to be Patrick. However, Patrick's curse doesn't fit the theme of all of the previous ones. We only see one of his visions, he gets cursed for ONE DAY, as opposed to the other 3 that are cursed for almost a week and we also know very little about him, even though we gradually knew more about the previous victims. Chrissy (no relation to main characters) -> Fred (friends w/ Nancy) -> Max (main character who we've known since s2)
More thorough explanation here
Twelvegate: This one is not really Byler related but i wanted to include it anyway
Theory claims Will was one of the lab kids (specifically 012) and him and El are actual twins. There are mentions of Will and El looking similar since s1, and a lot of twin imagery.
This theory obviously ties in with the Will having powers one and some people believe he wasn't 012, but him and El have a deeper connection/may be actually related. It could theoretically explain Henry's connection to Will, as well as things like El seemingly recognizing him in s1.(Alternatively called rainbowshipgate, because of the rainbow ship drawing Joyce mentions in s2 and the rainbow room)
Eightfifteengate: Again, not explicitly Byler but it's quite crazy.
TL;DR: The time 8:15 seems to have great significance in the show and it's mentioned all the time, if not by the characters themselves, (Eg. "It's 8:15, you're late"- El s2) then by small details in the background. There's even a whole track named after it.
Will left the Wheelers' house at 8:15 and it's the EXACT timestamp of his disappearance in 1x01. It's also the time in which most of the UD related weirdness happens and so it's very likely the UD is stuck on 8:15. (Also you know, 15-8=7)
Radiationgate: Related to the previous one! Clocks in Chernobyl are stuck on 8:15 and Hiroshima has been described figuratively as being frozen in time. Henry has burns identical to Chernobyl victims and almost all of his + his victims' symptoms can be explained through radiation exposure. As this post explains, for radiation levels between 8.3-11 Gy (SI unit for absorbed radiation), symptoms start with headaches and disorientation, move on to unconsciousness and bleeding (the exact symptoms of his victims) and finally, death happens at around 7 days (which is about how long Vecna's curse lasts AND how long Will was in the UD for)
Whiterabbitgate: The song "White Rabbit" is the first song in the show and it plays when we first get a sense of El's powers. Theory suggests it will also be the last song in the show (coming full circle) with either Will using his powers, or Willel using their powers together.
In general though, ST has a lot of similarities/parallels to Alice in Wonderland. The white rabbit constantly being late (Mike is late to something at the start of every season), great significance to clocks/ticking/time, a lot of hallucinations/visions, the overall similarities between the Upside Down and Wonderland. Henry's sister was literally named Alice Creel and there is SO much rabbit imagery throughout the show. There are also direct references to AIW with set pieces and paintings.
Soundtrackgate: This one has to do with the Stranger Things OST and the overall insane musical symbolism throughout the show. A lot of different theories talk about the show's soundtrack, but this one talks about 3 tracks in particular: Being Different, The First Lie, The First I love You
To put it briefly: "The First I love You" plays in both Robin's coming out scene and El's kiss with Mike at the end of s3 (Already a weird parallel). The three tracks not only share the same melody, but they also sync up perfectly. "Being Different" (s4 van scene) and "The First Lie" (Nancy and Jonathan's kiss in s2) especially, match up together to create an entirely new track, completing eachother. The scenes featuring those three tracks also share very similar themes at their core. (This post goes into a lot of detail!)
Playlistgate: Character playlists! At a certain point, every character's official playlist on Spotify was deleted, except for three: Mike's, Will's and Billy's. Songs were seemingly being added/deleted for no reason to the Mike and Will ones and people were struggling to make sense of it all.
Also, Mike's character playlist in particular is VERY interesting (so many byler coded songs, as well as "Smalltown Boy" a gay anthem, about a young gay boy forced to leave his home town to escape from their disapproval and homophobia.) There are three playlists on Finn's spotify that are very incriminating. "Love songs" (That has "BOYS DON'T CRY" on it, a song that Will literally has a poster of in his room), "drive" and the most recent one "STurn". These playlists feature songs like "Let her go", "Angst in my pants", "Me and Michael", "Gay thoughts" just to name a few. Basically a lot of the songs on all four playlists seem very relevant to some complicated feelings about Mike's relationship with El/Will but also with himself and his sexuality.
Scriptgate: Oh boy. Here we go.
On August 5th 2022, the byler fandom got #bylerscript trending worldwide on Twitter while waiting for the 8flix account (run by Nick Runyeard) to release some supposed s4 scripts (that people PAID for, mind you). These scripts dropped on August 8th, featuring lines like: "I hate who I am" from Will in the van scene, "His mouth dry, like a California summer" from the bedroom apology scene and also, Will seemingly recognizing Brenner at NINA, despite never meeting him in canon.
These turned out to be fake and the community was in shambles. Nick started calling people psychos, the Stranger Writers tweeted that everyone got scammed, Nick privated his account and the authenticity of some released s2-s3 scripts was questioned. This post explains the entire situation in detail.
Breathgate: This one is also script related and specifically about a Mike/Max parallel.
In the official van scene script, when Mike sees Will's painting "his breath catches." Then, when Lucas asks Max to the Friday movie date, "(her) breath catches" as well. People caught on that parallel very fast and since the latter is obviously a romantic moment, it boosted their confidence for both Byler and Lumax endgame.
Piggybackgate: This one refers to two different situations/theories.
One, the seemingly deliberate framing of Mike and Will inside the little bubble in El's piggyback drawing (and it referening to Byler). The framing is especially suspicious, because the bubble drawing was drawn two separate times (it's different from one shot to the other). In the second shot, they're framed directly inside of it.
Two, Mike in his monologue essentially piggybacking off of Will's van confession. His monologue was going off of El's feelings, but since they weren't actually El's, the speech was based on Will's feelings. It also ties in with the parallel/foreshadowing between the monologue and Suzie's house, with Will being paralleled to the "director" kid, directing a "choking" Tabitha and their dad (more thorough explanation here).
Footballgate: On December 25 2024, the vast majority of the byler community spent their Christmas watching hours of NFL football, in the hopes we would maybe get a teaser or at the very least a release date for s5. This started from leakers saying we would most likely get something during the game.
We got nothing.
People were disappointed they wasted hours of their lives watching a sport they neither cared for or knew anything about, and the only thing we learned is that we would probably get something before the end of January 2025.
THE SILLIES
(aka the joke-theories/memes)
Miniongate: Mike and Will are secretly minions. (Because you know, minions are primarily blue and yellow)
This information will be revealed to us in s5 and they will have a magical girl-esque transformation where we see their true minion form. (Original post here)
Localvillagegate: Related to the leaked Mike and El rooftop scene.
Basically, a mlvn used AI to lip read the scene and try to figure out what Mike is saying (and then posted the video on Twitter).
According to them, Mike was telling El they were going to leave the local village (AKA Hawkins) together and travel to a beautiful faraway land with "like, three waterfalls or something" (and also that she has to "improve her motivation", whatever that means).
People thought it was hilarious and started making a ton of memes based on it.
Parrotgate: This is directly connected to localvillagegateâ˘ď¸ and it was created by @cloudycleric in one of his streams.
Basically, the parrots are gay and represent Will and Mike, who in s5 will kiss under the three waterfalls depicted on the image.
Backgroundguygate: People making headcanons and creating backstories for random extras. The star of this gate is Barrett, an extra from the Lenora high school, who wears a barrette, bright red pants and a shirt that says "Hell".
According to this gate, he's actually gay and in love with Will. He has a goth best friend named Claire who is a lesbian and in love with El.
Chancegate: The theme of shipping Will with random extras continues on strong
Chance is one of Jason's friends and part of the basketball team. People thought he was attractive and somewhere along the line started making headcanons for him and shipping him with Will (Bychance). Basically, they're gonna date and Mike will be jealous.
Mikhailgate: More shipping Will with randoms! (I'm beginning to see a pattern here)
Originally created by @paladin-n-cleric
Enzo in S4 mentions his son, Mikhail Antonov. Mikhail is the Russian name for Micheal.
People started making jokes that Mikhail would arrive to Hawkins from Russia in s5 and shipped him with Will (Willhail), since he's like Mike but Russian and cooler. They made fanart, edits and posted pictures of Finn as Boris in "The Goldfinch" claiming it's Mikhail.
@will80sbyers then begun to ship Mikhail with El and thus the ship "Jail" was born.
Pastagate: On January 2nd 2025, Noah posted a 2024 recap on IG, which included a photo of a trailer door labeled "Rigatoni". People then started joking about Rigatoni being Will's new bf and the ship "Willoni" was born.
In reality, Rigatoni is a nickname for Noah and that was his trailer. But where's the fun in that?
Baldmikegate: Did you know Mike is actually bald and is bullied for it? Well, now you do.
In 2022, a cult was born and the byler tag was filled with edited pictures of Bald!Mike. Terrifying honestly.
Some people made posts about how the rest of the party feels about Mike's secret baldness and some even wrote FANFICS.
Gridgate/whiteboardgate/pixelgate: The Stranger Writers posted a picture of a pixelated/blurred whiteboard that had the entirety of s5 mapped out. People were desperately trying to decode it and figure out what was written on it.
On the space for episode 7, there was a "big black hole" that people went crazy trying to make sense of, only for it to be revealed as a pen holder.
Babygirlgate: The babygirlification of Mike Wheeler. That's it. That's the gate.
I think pretty much every line Will has ever said to Mike has been posted with the word "babygirl" replacing his name (it's hilarious and I love it)
Some examples here and here
Mattduffersbasementgate: Finn and Joe made up a third Duffer brother named Pete, who has no hair for some reason and is the actual writer of Stranger Things, while Matt and Ross are just the faces of it. Pete lives in a shed/Matt's basement and that's where he writes all of the scripts.
Finn and Noah are both also being held in Matt's basement however, and they're not allowed to leave so that they don't spoil byler endgame.
Lobegate: (This gate was officially named by @tripleatechie). In January 2025, a byler went undercover, sending asks to other members of the community pretending to be a Mlvn. In one of those, they accidentally misspelled "love" as lobe, which immediately became an inside joke. People starting speculating whether or not this was an actual Mlvn and an investigation ensued. On January 7th 2025, the identity of the undercover byler was revealed as @somewiseoutthere. The mystery didn't end there though, with people wondering if this was in reality a group effort with multiple culprits. Here is a list of all the possible culprits with a full timeline here.
omg this took SO LONG, but I will keep adding as more gates surface
(this post is for you @felix-fathoms @bibylers)

đđ˘đŤđŹđ đ¤đ˘đŹđŹđđŹ.
steve harrington x shy!reader
summary: the girl steve loves finally makes a move.
contents: reader referred to as âsweetsâ. tooth-rotting fluff, mutual pining. normal font after the cut.
steve knows.
he knows that asking sweets to attend the townâs fair with him, and also the subsequent firework show, sounded a lot like asking her out on a date. in his defense, the rest of the party would be attending alongside robin, eddie, nancy, and jonathan. she had also said yes, so thereâs that.
he picked her up at her cozy little cabin in his car; opened the door for her, complimented her outfit, even went as far as insisting heâd pay for the tickets. luckily, or maybe not, it seemed his angel remained oblivious to the inner turmoil that steve was facing; his longing to call this a date and the accompanying fear of her saying no.
somewhere deep down steve knew she would have said yes.
his angel looked oh so excited and happy to be amongst the laughing children, the fried oreos, the blinking neon lights, and the carnival-typical game stands that steve figured âscrew it!â, and decided to pull all the stops for her.
the first stop was trying to win the girl a stuffed animal. simple, right? as it happens, steve ended up failing miserably at the target shooting stand, which then caused his girl to step up and win the game with suspicious ease.
âthis is for you,â she said, smiling shyly as she handed steve the small, soft stuffed turtle she had just won.
despite his obvious blush, steve was now determined more than ever to make her smile like that for the rest of the night, however he just didnât anticipate how dedicated the girl seemed to be on making him smile all night too.
while dustin and eddie fought for the last stick of pink cotton candy, robin tried to convince jonathan that all of the game stands were rigged, with nancy backing her up.
max stood on the side with lucas, eyes rolling exasperatedly while el listened to something will was saying instead of joining the others in trying to decide whether to go on the rollercoaster or somewhere else.
when three pairs of eyes â dustin, eddie and robinâs â turned to the two lovebirds for their opinion to settle an argument, steve and his girl saw this as the perfect moment to break from the group and run in the opposite direction, holding hands and laughing and ignoring their friends shouts behind them, to enjoy each otherâs company.
steve is so happy to be spending some fun, quality time with his girl, doing all the things couples would normally do on a date, and that includes going to the nearest photobooth.
after counting down the coins in his pocket to pay for the pictures, he climbs into the booth and quickly realizes how small the little bench inside is. steve is feeling brave, maybe even a bit cheeky, so he pulls sweets by her waist to sit on his lap with the excuse of limited space on the bench. thankfully she seems more than happy, albeit shy as usual, to do so.
when the pictures are done they both step out of the booth with blushed cheeks, soft smiles, ragged breaths, and pounding hearts that are indicative of the mind blowing sequence of events that occurred inside the way-too-small, slightly dirty booth that now seems like both steve and sweetsâ personal heaven.
with hands shaking, sweets takes the line of pictures from the slot on the side of the booth and starts biting her lower lip, her brain trying to catch up to what had just happened inside and how happy it made her. she feels steveâs all consuming presence appear close behind her, looking over her shoulder, hands softly placed on her hips, as the pair of them stare at the perfectly captured moment that they are sure to remember and cherish forever.
the series of pictures went as follows:
coming up blank with pose ideas, the two just looked at each other and laughed, but at the sound of steveâs carefree and loud laughter she just stares at him like heâs a dream come true-- and the first photo is taken. sweets looking at steve like he hung the moon and the stars while heâs mid-laugh, eyes squeezed close in mirth and head leaning towards her.
steve felt her staring and soon stopped laughing, a soft smile on his lips as he gazed lovingly at her, and he asks âwhat?â in a low voice-- the second picture is taken just as sweets impulsively presses forward and attaches her lips to his; her first ever kiss, mind you, and itâs caught on camera.
the third picture depicts sweets nervously rambling, âi was going to ask for permission to kiss you first, i promise!â with the tips of her right hand fingers pressed to her own lips that were tingling while steve has a glassy, dreamy look in his eyes, slack jawed, staring right at her pouty lips.
and for the fourth photo? well, the fourth photo shows steve pressing forward himself to shut her up with another impossibly sweet and tender kiss, both of their eyes closed and his hand holding her jaw, thumb brushing against her cheek up and down while his heart goes haywire.
as they part from the second kiss, steve remembers that that was his angelâs first kiss and asks âwas that okay?â nervously, to which sweets just smiles impossibly big, a noticeable blush on her cheeks, and nods excitedly over and over again. that was the perfect first, and second, kiss and she couldnât have asked for anything more magical.
with the physical evidence in their hands that what just transpired inside that tiny booth was real and not a perfectly lovely dream, steve feels like he won the fucking lottery. and feels even more like a winner when sweets looks just as happy and just as in love as he is, âwe look great together,â he canât help but say.
âyeah, we do.â
they hold hands for the rest of the night.

Part One
Thereâs a Beta standing in Eddieâs doorway. Sheâs slim, choppy ginger hair and red boots poking out from under the cuffs of her denim dungarees â Eddie likes her pretty much immediately.
Sheâs holding a plate.
She hasnât managed to speak yet, but from down the hall, Eddie hears a voice hiss, âRobin!â
They both turn to look. The Omega of Eddieâs dreams face and...tummy...are both poking out of the doorway. He looks mortified.
âSo sorry, the Beta starts, âSteve was too embarrassed to come and ask a second time, but heâs basically had his nose pressed to the door for the past half an hour soâŚâ she holds out the plate.
From down the hall, very faintly, the Omega, who Eddie now knows must be called âSteve,â whines, âwhy are you like this,â and then clicks the door shut.
âIâm Robin, by the way,â and she holds out her non plate hand to shake.
Eddie ends up shaking one hand and taking the plate from the other. Eddie knew, objectively, that Steve must have a partner, but he still has to squish the disappointment of meeting them. âEddie...just, give me a second. Itâs chicken parm.â
Eddie goes and dishes up a portion, it was going to be tomorrows lunch but...he canât deny the pretty little Omega anything. Maybe he should start cooking extra extras, even if Steve doesnât come knocking, at least itâs a meal he can have another time.
âThis is one of his favorites, no wonder he was so restless about it.â
âYeah, well, anytime,â and Eddie could add that Robin should be making Steveâs favorites, but he doesnât because heâs pretty sure Robin is cool and he already knows Steve is sweet and heâs just not that kind of person.
Much.
âIâm sorry, youâve done what to the pulled pork?â
âOrange and Oregano, trust me Henderson, Iâm about to blow your mind.â
âUh hu, and someone else's by the look of it, youâve cooked enough for us and that Omega guy twice over.â Eddie just rolls his eyes. âYou got all your shit put away then?â
âPretty much, and leave that alone.â
Dustin huffs but puts the spoon down and replaces the lid on the crock pot, âwhat are we having with it?â
âWas going to do dirty fries.â
âOh my god. Youâre a saint. A hero. You should be knighted like ye olde dragon-slayers of yore-â
âYeah yeah, this will not score you any extra loot later.â
âMayhap a smidgen of exper-â Dustin stops at the sound of knocking, looking to the door. âIs it your Omega?â He whisper hisses at Eddie.
âHeâs not mine, heâs got a girlfriend,â Eddie whisper hisses back.
Doesnât stop him pulling his shirt straight and tugging at his jeans and fluffing his hair real quick on the way to the door. All of that is kind of...reflexive, though.
Dustinâs smirk is actually slap worthy, and Eddie will get to that right after he answers the door.
âI am so sorry about this,â Steve is saying before Eddie even has the door fully open, âand I know you said you didnât want anything, but I thought I could at least contribute.â Heâs holding two plates, one empty, one stacked up with cookies, âtheyâre Reeseâs.â
And Eddieâs mouth is watering, not just from the scent of Steve, but because he can see the chunks of partially melted Reese's pieces sticking out of the cookies, âthey look incredible, thank you,â Eddie takes both plates, âitâs not actually ready yet, can I drop it by in like, thirty minutes?â
âOh you are my hero,â Steve beams at him. Itâs a happy smile, a smile that comes with the scent of pleased Omega. Happy Omega. Happy Omega with pup. The kind of smile and scent that digs itâs hooks deep into Eddieâs brain and fucking yanks.
âItâs pulled pork, would you rather fries or rice?â Eddie finds himself asking, completely on auto pilot.
âWhatever is easiest. Whatever you were already planning. Thank you so so much Eddie.â
Eddie watches Steve waddle back to his apartment down the hall before he turns, a plate in each hand, and nudges the door closed with his foot.
âThank you so much Eddie. I made you cookies Eddie,â Dustin simpers from the couch, before making kissey noises.
âOh shut the fuck up.â
Eddie stands in the hallway in his crocs. His apartment is new, so he has a strict no shoes policy; but he has a pair of crocs for in the hall and heading outside real quick. Also, they're comfortable as fuck, so Eddie refuses to be judged.
Especially since theyâre black, and Dustin got him all these little button things that pop in the holes. Little swords and shields and D20âs and stuff. So theyâre super cool.
Steve opens the door, wincing, one hand resting on the small of his back, but his face blooms back into the beautiful smile at the sight of Eddie. It does something, very briefly, to Eddie. That reaction. And then he viciously reminds himself that the reaction was for Eddieâs food and not at all for Eddie himself.
Steve goes to take the plate but, âitâs hot, I warmed the plate up in the stove, let me put it down somewhere for you?â A trick Eddie learned in his month of working in a kitchen one Christmas when he was a teenager, but it never left him, and he didn't want Steveâs dinner to go cold.
âOh, gosh, youâre so thoughtful Eddie, come right in.â
Eddieâs heart gives a little flutter at Steveâs praise, and Steve shifts out of the way, letting Eddie into an apartment thatâs a mirror of his own. Itâs very neat and tidy inside; everything very clearly has a place. Nothing looks brand new, but everything does look well cared for.
Steve directs Eddie to the little two seater dining table, where thereâs a place set. Itâs so freaking adorable, a place mat with flowers and kittens printed on it, a white folded napkin, cutlery and a glass of juice set out. A single daffodil in a tiny vase.
Eddie puts the plate down carefully, turning to see Steve blushing furiously. âSorry, I donât get out much and I wanted to make it nice.â
âDonât be sorry, itâs cute,â Eddie says, even as he feels himself grow irritated yet again with Robin, Steveâs nose twitches, eyeing Eddie with concern, so he does his best to push it down, âwell,â Eddie tries his best to be cheerful, âI really hope you enjoy it. Maybe your girlfriend will take you out tomorrow?â He tries to say that with no hint of spite whatsoever.
Steve blinks at him, âgirlfriend?â
âRobin? I thought...arenât you two..?â
Steve snorts a laugh, actually ugly laughs and snorts like a cute little piggy and has to bring his hand up to his face to try and hide his reaction, âno. No, sheâs my best friend. Sheâs home with her girlfriend.â
âOh.â Eddie says, processing, âoh. Right sorry, I just, assumedâŚâ he canât stop his eyes from, briefly, flicking to Steveâs tummy.
âItâs okay,â Steveâs smiling at him, âyou can ask.â
âWell...I mean when I thought you were with Robin I just assumed youâd used a donor orâŚâ
âYep!â Steve pops the âPâ. âI did do that, and I did go to the appointments with Robin, but Iâm single. Going it alone.â
And then Steve does quite possibly the sexiest thing Eddieâs ever seen in his entire life; he bares his throat, âsee, no bite.â
Eddie has to clear his throat and shift a little where he's standing, lest his inconvenient biological reaction become overly obvious, âwhy did you decide to, uhmâŚâ
Steve shrugs, smiling happily, âguess I just never was lucky enough to meet the right Alpha.â
And then Steveâs tummy rumbles very aggressively.
âIâll let you eat your-â
âGosh excuse me Iâm-â
They speak at the same time, and then both end up laughing.
âIâll leave you to your dinner,â
âThanks again Eddie, I really do appreciate it.â

GOD YES I just know Wayne would be giving Eddie the most disappointed look because he did not raise he to be this stupid. Robin was also told by Steve she was NOT allowed to come into Eddieâs room because she had threatened to kill him a few times too many for Steve to be comfortable letting her be around him
Thinking of Steddie Soulmates where you feel every pain your soulmate feels.
Thinking of little Steve feeling every backhand and punch from Eddieâs dad.
Thinking of little Eddie feeling Steve break his arm and the pain being so much worse because his parents refuse to take him to the hospital until the school gets involved.
Thinking of Eddie finally moving in with Wayne and sure, the paternal beating are done, but now heâs just a small town Freak thatâs constantly targeted.
Thinking of Eddie and Steve in their Sophomore/Freshman years respectively, not knowing who the other is outside of rumors and (unknowingly) their shared pain.
Thinking of Eddie finally escaping pain, the bullying turning to mainly verbal shit.
Only to be thrust right back into pain because his soulmates a walking hazard.
Thinking of Eddie having no idea whatâs going on when he suddenly feels like one giant bruise after Steveâs beat up by Jonathan. Eddie watching Steve fall from grace in his Junior year and not connecting the dots.
Billy coming along and smashing a fucking plate over Steveâs head while Eddieâs peacefully sleeping. Eddie jolting awake with a shout because /holy fucking shit owâ/
Neither of them connecting the dots.
Then Steve graduates, and Eddieâs held back. And the pain subsides for a bit.
And then fuck all happens in Starcourt and Eddie literally feels like heâs dying and Jesus H. Christ is his soulmate /ok/??? Like they are getting seriously fucked up.
And then that recedes and it ok for a whileâ Eddie will still get killer pains that seem to circulate in his chest and head, but thatâs to be expected with whatever tf his poor soulmate is going through year after year.
And then the fuckery of March 1986 happens and Chrissy Cunningham is dead in his trailerâ his homeâ and heâs wanted for fucking murder and hiding in Rickâs dingy ass boat houseâ
And then heâs shoving none other than Steve Harrington up against a wall with a broken bottle helps to his throat. Eddieâs so piped on adrenaline he barely feels the sting in his back, but he does feel the zing of pressure on his throat and ok /owâ/
And heâs staring at Steve Harrington, who looks kinda terrified and so pretty and Eddieâs holding a bottle to his throat and is that Dustin?â
Andâ
And holy shit.
Eddieâs eyes widen at the same time as Steveâs and the realization hits them both at once.
#steve having flashbacks to Nancy calling him bullshit and every other time heâs felt unlovable when he realizes Eddie is his soulmate#he starts feeling the bites as theyâre shooting at Vecna#at first he assumes itâs just random pain but as they keep going he realizes that he KNOWS that feeling#he freezes makes eye contact with robin and says my soulmate is an idiot and just RUNS#Nancy is still shooting but robin knows she needs the help so she has to stay with her but once heâs gone they run after steve#they find him and dustin both crying#steve is swearing and mumbling to himself and fully doesnât acknowledge them until nancy starts helping#once they get him to the hospital steve drags robin to a bathroom and locks the door so he can have his breakdown about his soulmate#because its either that eddie is his soulmate but he isnât eddies OR he is eddies but eddie doesnt want him#and robin is on a war path after that#wayne figures out who steve is when he sees him sitting by eddie and wincing and holding parts on his own body that arent hurt#he then instantly asks steve if hes okay because he saw all the times eddie was in serious pain because of steve

Donât You Want Me (Baby?) Pt 1
âââ
Steve and Eddie are either hooking up or dating - and are about as bad at keeping a secret as they are dealing with their feelings. (Dustin POV)
1 / 2 / 3 / 4
âââ
âFor the record, I still think this is dumb.â Lucas said over the wind.
âYeah, well, youâre dumb.â Mike said, sharp witted as always.
âGot you there.â Will grinned, sidling up beside him on his bike. Mike shot him a look, vaguely betrayed. Will shrugged innocently and kept peddling.
âAlright, alright, let the court record reflect youâre both morons.â Dustin sighed, peddling between the bickererâs bikes and cutting ahead.
All four boys skirted to a stop outside the trailer park. Dustin wiped at his forehead under his cap, the humidity creeping back up on them as soon as the air stopped itâs rushing by.
âDude, if Eddie wasnât picking up the phone, well, thereâs probably a reason for that.â Lucas said, in that tone of his. The demeaning one.
Dustin just shook his head. Name one good reason to ignore your party? One good reason. Dustin certainly couldnât!
He started walking his bike up through the dusty lot, leaving the rest with little choice but to march ever onward.
âMaybe heâs still sleeping.â Will said, lingering a bit behind the pack.
âAt 1 in the afternoon?â Lucas rolled his eyes.
âWhat? He does, like,â Mikeâs voice dropped to a paranoid whisper. âweed, right? Jonathanâs always sleeping in?â Mike looked behind them at Will, who shrugged.
âEddie,â Dustin said his name rather uncharitably but heâs at his limit here, really, he is âhas been dodgy weeks now. Doesnât answer the phone, heâs never free on the weekend, never hangs out after Hellfire anymore - Iâm telling you guys, somethings up.â
âOr maybe - heâs finally graduated after the third try and heâs tired of hanging around high schoolers all the time.â Lucas rolled his eyes.
Dustin shook his head at Lucas, because that canât be it. Eddie loves them. Well, he loves Dustin and likes the rest of Hellfireâs fresh meat well enough. They bonded, alright? - after everything they went through in the Upside Down. Hell, theyâre practically brothers. And itâs not just Dustin who thinks that, Eddie had said it first. Well, he called him âthe little brother I never wantedâ but had said so sarcastically. Obviously, heâd meant the opposite.
Hard to feel wanted right now though, considering as of circa maybe a month ago, Eddieâs been MIA. He still shows up to Hellfire, obviously. But that was about it.
After stopping the clock on the apocalypse and banding together to clear Eddieâs good name, it kind of become a thing - Eddie taking them out to get slushies after a game. Calling up Eddie to tell him, not ask, but tell him they were all going to the arcade. Heâd even gone to Eddieâs trailer a few times so he could help Dustin homebrew his subclass!
Steve had started tagging along too, usually. Him and Eddie even getting started to get less awkward around each other after a while. Not best friends or anything, Not like Dustin was hoping. But friendly. It had been totally awesome! And totally annoying that he had mysteriously gone to ground.
Itâs possible Dustinâs being, well he doesnât want to say needy...
Itâs just, Steve started picking up extra shifts at work and spending a whole lot of time with Robin. Not that Dustin didnât support their relationship. Steveâs been single so long, it hadnât started verging on pathetic exactly, but it was a near thing.
Itâs just hard for a guy not to feel neglected.
The four boys had almost reached the trailer when they heard it. At first Dustin dismissed it, surely the trailer next doorsâ doing. But no, that music definitely coming from Eddieâs.
That in and of itself, wouldnât be unusual. Eddie is likely the loudest human being on the planet. No, the weird part is itâs not thrashy, garbage can lid, Eddie-music but goddamnâŚ
âIs that - â Mike said, trailing off from sheer befuddlement.
âCulture Club.â Lucas could barely hide the cackle in his voice.
âWhat in the -â Dustin muttered, throwing his bike in the grass and wandering up to the door like it was a gate to another dimension. For all he knows, it might just be.
âEddie?â He knocked on the door. Nothing. He tried again. Obviously, someoneâs home.
Dustinâs only met the man briefly but he didnât take Munson Sr for being the bubblegum pop type.
Besides, Mr. Munson certainly wouldnât be playing anything this loud unless those late nights at the plant had him going deaf. Dustin peeked through the window into the living room. More nothing.
âOh man.â Lucas shoved him to press his face against the glass too. There was a slow smile creeping across his face, like he was suddenly overjoyed they had come to the trailer park after all. Lucas wasnât gonna let their DM live this one down, not any time soon. âI thought he was supposed to be cool.â
âHe is cool.â Mike said.
Dustin just sighed, threw his hands up, and started rounding the corner of the RV. Eddieâs van was here, ergo Eddie. Dustin was sure heâd be lurking around here somewhere. The rest of the boys followed, their previous hesitation now nowhere to be seen.
âCome on.â He gestured towards the window. They all leaned in and Dustin was already furiously rapping on the window. âEd - â
Dustinâs eyes went wide. And maybe his face a bit pink.
Eddie was here alright.
He was laying in bed. Very much not alone. There were two of them, lying in bed together. They were under the covers but Eddie was sprawled out on top of someone, a thick curtain of hair hanging over both faces. Clearly, ew, kissing, based on, and Dustin might be scarred for life here, a hand gripping Eddieâs hair at the base of his neck. He could just barely hear their sadistic DM⌠giggling⌠over the music.
As for the tunes, the obvious culprit was in the corner of the room. Eddieâs little cassette stereo.
âEddie?â Dustin blanched before he could stop himself. And it was of course, in that exact moment Culture Club decided to betray them and Karma Chameleon ended.
Will went to shush him, grabbing his shoulder to drag him away but oh shit, Eddie definitely heard that. The guy squawked and jolted up in bed, swooping the covers up to hide them both in their immodesty. Eddieâs eyes peaked over his elbow like a vampire leering over his cloak. He gaped at the window, clearly rather horrified.
The boys all threw themselves out of the frame, Dustin pressing up against the back of the trailer.
âWhat the fuck - â he heard Eddie say. âWhat the fuck.â He sounded almost angry but closer to panicked. There was a vague whispering match, but whispering was never really Eddieâs strong suit, so they heard him just fine.
âRelax.â Eddie said, though he did not himself sound relaxed. âNo, itâs fine. Weâre cool. You need to - I need you cool right now.â
They heard something like a grown man crashing off the bed and gracelessly hit the floor.
âI know, I know, I know. I know! Christ, Iâm sorry, ok? I didnât - Iâll deal with it. Just - â
The boys were already turning tail and scurrying back to their bikes. Gone entirely red in the face.
âI told you this was a bad idea.â Mike said, the hypocrite bastard.
âNo you did not!â Dustin huffed.
The front door swung open with a bang and Eddie came spilling out towards them as he, oh gross, scrambled to get into his jeans. He was still shirtless and sweaty, hair fluffed up like an angry cat. Looking rather frantic.
âItâs not what it looks like!â He actually looked properly pissed, hands shaking with it as he did up his fly.
âWe didnât see anything.â Lucas put his hands up, but the guilty way he refused to meet Eddieâs eyes kind of gave up the game.
âNothing!â Will squeaked, beet red and squeezing his eyes closed tight. Just in case they hadnât made themselves look incriminating enough.
âGod, of all the shit fucking timing -â Eddieâs fist clenched up in front of him and he let out a frustrated noise, eyes darting around the trailer park. âLook I can explain. If you just, ergh, give me a minute to think of something.â
âNo need! We didnât see anything, promise.â Mike assured him again, his voice nearly steady. Good for him.
âRight so. I guess, did I mention Iâve take up recently taken up semi pro Grecian wrestling - â
âDo you have a girlfriend?â Dustin couldnât help interrupting him. Lucas smacked him. He gave Lucas a face, which was returned, so Dustin did it again even harder. But fuck Lucas cause it may have been the right thing to say. Eddie stopped fluttering, looked right at him. Squinted, scanning his face.
âYou know you can just tell us. If you did. You could have just told us in the first place.â Dustin didnât get why Eddie wouldnât. Did Eddie think this kind of thing was too âgrown upâ for them. They were high school freshman for Christ sake! The only one of their little crew who didnât have a girlfriend was Will. And I guess Steve.
Allegedly.
Of course, Dustin didnât believe that for a second.
âI - what?â Eddie perked up.
âIf you had a girlfriend. Do you? Is that - â
Eddie huffed out a hysterical laugh. It was weird. But then, Eddie wasnât exactly the poster child for Normal. Dustin crossed his arms.
âSure. Yeah.â He took a big breath as he looked behind him back into the trailer. âI have a... my girlfriend.â
âSorry. For coming over.â Will said, timid like a mouse.
âIt was Dustinâs idea.â He took Mike for many things but never a rat. Dustin sputtered indignantly, throwing up his hands.
âAnd we didnât even see anything, really! So if youâre worried about your girlfriendâs modesty, like - we didnât see anything, we swear! Right guys?.â Lucas insisted. Mike and Will bobbleheaded in agreement.
âWhat the hell are you squirts doing here, anyways?â Eddie said, scrubbing roughly at his forehead.
âI needed to get my binder.â Dustin said flatly. And maybe to remind Eddie that hey, heâs still here too. Like, right here.
âYour fucking - â Eddie said in disbelief, and then he laughed. âYour binder.â
âYou werenât answering the phone.â
âYeah well I was busy.â Eddie said, eyes wide and awfully antagonistic.
âBusy getting busy.â
Eddie turned his wild eyes on Lucas
âThin ice, Sinclair. Thin fucking ice.â
That just made him chuckle again. At least he half tried to hide it behind his hand. But Lucas always was the least cowed by Eddie.
âIs this why you havenât been hanging around anymore, like all month.â
âJesus. Henderson, Iâm sorry, ok? Hard as it is to believe, I do have a fucking life outside the game.â Yeah, Dustin thought, it was pretty hard to believe. âLook, just give me a second.â
âIâll be quick - â Dustin made a move to come inside.
âNo.â Eddie firmly hip checked him out of the way.
Eddie slipped back into the trailer. Through the open door Dustin could just barely make out the words.
âFalse alarm. No - actually. Iâm being serious. They think - â
They think what? Think they have a right to be here at Eddieâs trailer. Taking up space in Eddieâs life. Well they do. The party almost died saving the world side by side with Eddie, they had more right to be here than that - Dustin just grumbled. He wouldnât call her a harlot. But only because Susieâs voice was already in the back of his head, admonishing the thought.
Eddie came back and pushed the binder hard into Dustinâs chest. He was stumbled back a step. âNow scram.â He said, not leaving room for Dustin to get a word in edgewise.
âLook, Iâm sorry I havenât been around but I⌠See you at Hellfire, ok?â Eddie slammed the door in their faces.
âHow great could this even chick be?â Dustin frowned. Great enough to edge the party out of Eddieâs life it seems like.
The other boys just shrugged. They all picked up their bikes.
âI mean, why canât he just like, bring her along when we hang out or something.â
âI told you, maybe he just wants to hang out with someone his own age for once.â Lucas said.
Maybe Eddieâs too cool to bring his new girlfriend around his dorky freshmen friends. Is he embarrassed to introduce them to her or something.
âCome on.â Will said. âWe should get back to Mikeâs.â
âYeah. Yeah whatever.â Dustin said.
âââ
âSince itâs Friday, our parents said me and Mike and Lucas could go to the arcade for an hour before it gets dark.â Dustin said to Eddie as they walked through the empty school hallway after Hellfire.
âNo can do, compadre. Fight the good fight against those Space Invaders in my steed, yeah?â Eddie grinned down at him over the few boxes of mini in his hands.
Dustin huffed.
âWhat? Too busy hanging out with your girlfriend? Dustin said petulantly. âJust bring her along if your - â
The three most senior PCâs in Hellfire skid to a stop in front of them. Dustin and Eddie nearly walked straight into the wall of them. It was almost comical the way all their heads swiveled around to oogle at him. Jeff only just managed to choke back a chortle.
Dustin was honestly offended on Eddieâs behalf. Sure, dude was a drug dealing, super duper senior nerd/freak/metalhead combo who had been semi-recently accused of ritualistic dismemberment - but certainly someone was into that.
âMy -? Oh yeah my, my - that.â Eddie winced, avoiding many, many eyes.
âOh, and you have a girlfriend now do you?â Gareth huffed a laugh, in clear disbelief. Eddie glared daggers at him.
Dustin really didnât see why it was that hard to believe. Eddie was like, really cool. It was an indisputable fact. If all of them could see it, why couldnât some weird, off the wall alt girl see it too.
âI donât want to hear a fucking word from you. Any one of you.â Pointing rapidly at all three of them, like he was warding off the words waiting right at the tip of their tongues.
âSo whoâs the lucky lady, Munson?â Jared said, like he had âheld action, Vicious Mockeryâ and simply couldnât help himself. He was fighting a positively delighted smile. Eddie flushed.
âThe DM giveth and the DM taketh away, and you would be very wise to remember that, Ser Elias.â Eddie said loudly, still jabbing his finger about like it made him more authoritative.
âSorry man, just joking around.â Jeff grinned good naturedly.
âYeah, I mean, good for you dude.â Gareth said, with a genuine smile. He tapped Eddie on the chest who childishly batted Garethâs hand away.
âNo, donât do that. I - seriously guys, weâre not - itâs not like that. Iâm not âdatingâ anyone.â Eddie deflated, looking uncomfortable. The unflappable Eddie, looking all too flappable after all. He tucked a piece of hair behind his ear and huffed. âJust someone Iâve been screwing around with alright.â
Eddie walked past them. Dustin almost felt bad for bringing it up. Almost.
He turned to Gareth.
âSo you guys donât have any idea who it is?â
The guys looked around at each other, all of them shrugging.
âWho knows.â Jared shrugged again, this one still no more helpful than the last.
âUnless,â Gareth straight up giggles, âitâs that suburban mom Eddieâs been swooning over since sophomore year.â
âYeah right.â Jared chuckled, shoving Gareth forward. They all continued walking.
âThat⌠doesnât seem like his type.â Dustin said, suddenly confused and perturbed and feeling like he doesnât know Eddie Munson at all.
âYouâd be surprised.â Jared grinned and clapped a hand on his shoulder.
They exited the school just in time to see Steve getting out of the car. Usually after Hellfire he didnât bother. He just wanted to get the kids rounded up and out of the parking lot as quickly as he could ever really manage. Not today though. Eddie walked to Steveâs Beemer, parked in the stall next to his van.
âMunson.â He said with a small smile. He grabbed one of a few boxes of minis out of Eddieâs arms.
âUh, Harrington.â Eddie gave a hesitant smile, before bowing his head with predictable theatrically.
âHi, Steve.â Dustin said from behind. Steve gave him a fond nod before looking back up to the DM.
âSo, uh, how was the session?â He said kind of awkwardly.
âBordering on child abuse.â Eddie beamed.
âI got knocked out, twice.â Lucas windged, holding up two fingers as he walked by.
âWhatever keeps you humble.â Steve shrugged. He turned back to Eddie. âSo. Uh. Any plans for this weekend?â
Eddie blinked, then he raised his eyebrows with a haughty grin. âDunno, had a few things in mind.â He shrugged.
âCool. Thatâs cool. I did too. But uh, then my parents came home from their trip early.â Steve scratched the back of his neck. âSo, you know, guess there go my plans for the weekend.â
âHuh.â Eddie frowned. âBummer.â
âShotgun!â Dustin decided, throwing open the passenger side door.
Mike, Lucas, and Will who also couldnât care less about their inane small talk, were already piling into Steveâs car. Steve was lingering though, helping Eddie load his stuff into the van. Dustinâs glad theyâre making an effort to be friendly acquaintances, especially since heâs pretty sure itâs mostly for his own sake. But come on, it was like, 3 small boxes. They had space invasions to thwart.
And of course, Lucas was still bitching at Dustin about his failure to come through with a healing spell.
âIâm a bard, what did you want me to do?â Dustin rolled his eyes.
âYou have healing word!â Lucas said, to which Dustin roll his eyes. Again.
âWhich does like, 2D-nothing!â He looked out the window, wishing Steve would hurry the hell up already. Him and Eddie were still talking? What the hell did those two even have to talk about? Eddie was giving Steve an optimistic grin, but Steve was just shaking his head.
âCure wounds than!â Lucas groused.
âWell, then you should have thought about that before you went down thirty-five feet away.â
âYou could have dashed.â Lucas crossed his arms.
âUgh. That would have defeated the whole - ugh!â Dustin rolled the window down impatiently. âSteve is it cool if I eat in your car?â Dustin hollered. He wasnât actually gonna, he just knew how to get the manâs attention.
âAbsolutely not! You know the rules.â
âDonât worry, itâs just a granola bar! Nature Valley.â Dustin shouted back.
âDonât even think about it Henderson!â Steve said, already rounding the car. Eddie laughed brightly.
âHarrington?â He said.
âI - Yeah. Fine. Fine, alright.â Steve said to which Eddie smiled triumphantly. That better mean they were done with their little pow-wow.
Eddie climbed into his own vehicle. Steve opened the Beemerâs drivers side door but he didnât get in yet. Instead he stood there running his hand through his hair muttering something to himself.
âSee ya, nerds!â Eddie called out, lowering his own window. There was a chorus of goodbyes from the Beemer. âAnd Harrington -â He started the van and a blast of guitar poured out. He smiled that Eddie smile. âYou worry too much.â He said. And then he swept out of the parking lot with the sound of his obnoxious music on the wind.
âYeah. Sure.â Steve muttered sarcastically. He got behind the wheel, Dustinâs threat of snacking seemingly forgotten.
âWhat was that about?â
Steve just waved him off and started the car.
Dustin eyed Steve skeptically. So what, were Steve and Eddie like, actually friends now or something?
Maybe he knows.
After a few minutes, Dustin finally broke and asked.
âSoooo, do you know who Eddieâs been seeing?â
âWhat?â Steve says, nearly swerving over the line.
âJesus!â Lucas swore from the back.
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â Steve chuckled awkwardly, eyes now, thankfully, firmly fixed on the road.
âOf course heâs not gonna tell Steve.â Mike grumbled.
Dustin stroked an imaginary beard. The fog of mystery only grew thicker and thicker.
âHis secret girlfriend.â Mike said, like a little know it all.
Steve just huffed a, sure.
âI bet sheâs like, some badass metal chick.â Mike said reverently, looking out the window. âShe probably has like face piercings and crazy dyed hair. Or like a shaved head or something cool like that.â
Dustin sighed. She probably was badass. Way cooler than they were. Way too cool to bring around the dork squad.
âDoes that sound like anyone youâve seen around here?â Lucas said skeptically.
âYeah, I dunno. Gareth said he was into like⌠suburban moms.â Dustin grimaced.
âExcuse me?â Steve sputtered.
Will made a disgusted noise.
âI know.â Dustin shivered.
âBetter watch out for your mom then.â Lucas snickered. Dustin shot him a dirty look.
âYeah, no way.â Mike shook his head. âHe had to be messing with you or something. Eddie probably has like, groupies and stuff.â
âPlease. That man has no game.â Lucas said. Steve snorted but played it off like a cough.
âThat man runs the game.â Dustin said defensively.
âYou know thatâs not what that means.â Lucas said.
âThe real question is, how long has this little dalliance been going on for?â Dustin pondered.
âHey, you nosey little twerps. I really donât think this is like, any of your business.â
âAt least a few weeks right?â Lucas spoke up.
âAnd how do you know that?â Mike said.
âCause thatâs how long itâs been that Eddieâs been using the phrase âbusyâ to get out of stuff. I mean heâs a jobless, drug peddling hobo, I donât think Iâve seen Eddie be busy like, ever.â Lucas said, scratching his chin. âUntil a few weeks ago that is.â
Dustin grinned widely. âItâs elementary, my dear Watson.â
âItâs invasive is what it is.â Steve grumbled. âAlso, heâs not a hobo. He has a house.â
âWell, I guess, technically itâs a trailer.â Will said, rather pedantically.
âWell, itâs got four walls. And he lives inside them. ErgoâŚâ
âHeâs also been a lot nicer.â Will said thoughtfully.
âHuh?â Dustin and Steve said, and looked at him in unison.
âThe last couple weeks, donât you think?â Will said, smiling faintly. âHeâs been nicer than usual. Or happier. I guess.â
âI guess.â Dustin said.
âYou think?â Steve said.
âOkay,â Dustin should have a houndstooth cap and a pipe. âWe have our timeline. Now, we need to root out suspects.â
âAlright, this, whatever this is, stops here. You nosey little twerps need to mind your own business.â
âBut - â
âI donât want to hear it. No buts.â
And that was the end of that. For now at least.

first kiss
There are many rumours about Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson. Steve only gets his weed from the freak because he gives good discount and sloppy heads. (That rumour is on the jocks of Hawkins High. yes, Steve gets his weed from Eddie, no he doesn't get sloppy heads from Eddie though he thinks the metal head would probably be good at it.)
They've once raced against each other and Eddie won. Beamer against shabby, rusty Van. It's said that Eddie pushed Steve off the road and then left him in a ditch. (The truth is that Steve crashed the beamer one night in '85 after weeks of nightmares and the need to drive through Hawkins to make sure that no demodog would attack his kids. Eddie merely helped him and the beamer out of the ditch.)
They've been friends looooong before the Upside Down. (This is from the kids, specifically from Dustin. And it is anything but true.)
Steve and Eddie made out once in 1981. With their hands down their pants, tongue far up in each others mouths. (This is from a cheerleader who graduated in '82).
This is...well...true. To a point! No hands in pants, but yeah, Steve and Eddie onces kissed. To be specific, it was Steve's first kiss, for both of them really.
Winter '81 at Michael Carvers birthday party where Steve was invited as the youngest basketball player in the team and Eddie was there to sell weed.
Somehow, Steve got pulled into a round of 7 minutes in Heaven by said cheerleader (which had been a trick, a little prank on little Stevie because there had been no 7 minutes in heaven, just some giggling cheerleaders and a perplexed Eddie Munson selling weed out off Carvers pantry).
The moment Steve was shoved into the tiny, dark space with no one but the freak, he had 2 options: run and be the joke of the school or stay and become an enigma in his first year of Highschool.
So, Steve stayed.
'Pre-rolled or a baggy?' Eddie, sitting on a chair, had asked with a drawl which would have been intimidating if his voice hadn't broken right then.
'7 minutes in hell' Steve simply said, ignoring both the lunchbox on Eddie's knees and the funny crack of his voice.
the other boy leaned back, head tilted like a confused puppy, 'Isn't it 7 minutes in Heaven?'
Steve shrugged his shoulders, 'probably depends on who's with you, you know?'
And that made Eddie laugh, head bend, eyes squeezed shut, a nice, rumbling sort of sound escaping his lips.
'Good point', he'd said and closed the lunchbox before leaning closer, 'What'cha intend to do about it?'
Until this very moment, Steve didn't know, hadn't had a clue, but when the laughter of the cheerleaders from the other side of the door reached his ears, he shrugged again and said, 'probably kiss you until the 7 minutes are over and then buy a pre-rolled.'
'You don't mind that they might called you a fag?'
For a moment, Steve thought about it, but then shrugged again. He wasn't one, liked girls just fine and if anything, he thinks Lucy from geography definitely would like to hold his hands.
'Nah, I don't mind.'
And before the other boy could say anything, Steve marched closer and bend down, one hand on Eddie's knee, the other on his smooth cheek.
'But I'm not gonna kiss you if you don't want it,' he said right against Eddie's lips. Eddie, who looked startled and wide-eyed, lips slightly parted. Steve knew that he sounded far more confident than he actually felt, and he was just so very grateful that his hands weren't as sweaty with nervousness as the lower part of his back. He just hoped that he smelled nice.
'5 more minutes,' someone called out and Eddie jerked against Steveâs hands.
'OK,' he said quietly, sounding so small and Steve felt for him, so he said, honest and with a bit vulnerability, 'it's my first kiss.'
Before Eddie could say anything, however, Steve kissed him. Just a light pressure of lips against lips. He stopped, leaned back to look at Eddie only to find him with his eyes closed, so Steve leaned in again. One peck, two, a third, and then Eddie's hand closed around Steve's waist to move him closer, right between his parted legs. Another hand reached for Steve's head, slightly cold fingers curled into his hair and Eddie's thumb began to brush almost gently over Steve's ear. It felt electrifying. He hummed. This time, when their lips met, they opened and Steve carefully let his tongue run along Eddie's lower lip. He's met with a heavy exhale and something like a quiet whine. It's sounded like heaven, so he did it again only to feel Eddie's tongue against his. Wet, Steve thought at first, a bit slimey, but then Eddie grabbed his head harder and opened his mouth wider and with it, Eddie's tongue brushed against his, and it felt like nothing Steve's ever felt before. Warm and fuzzy and lovely, and Eddie tasted like mint gums and spit. He groaned. Steve reached for Eddie's hair, short and curly and so soft against his hand and somehow he's not standing anymore but sitting on Eddie's lap, their chests touching. When Steve's teeth accidently dug into Eddie's wonderfully plush bottom lip, he moaned into Steve's mouth. It was as if the sound echoed through Steve's bones. So he did it again. And again, nails digging into Eddie's neck to keep him close. The hand on Steve's waist trailed along his waistband and then under Steve's shirt to tickle his stomach and before thinking too much, he pressed into it.
Eddie tilted his head and brushed his tongue against Steve's and then against his teeth and lips and before he knew what was happening, Eddie's beautiful, unskilled mouth, left his lips and trailed along his jaw to his ear, gently biting into the flesh behind it. And Steve outright moaned loud enough for the sound to travel outside of the pantry.
'30 more seconds' came a snickering answer and the two boys jumped apart. Eddie's cheeks and neck were flushed bright red, his lips shiny with spit, his hair a mess and Steve knew he probably looked just the same. They both panted, Steve's heart running a mile a minute.
'Oh,' he said, still feeling Eddie's touch against his skin (and wanting more.)
He wanted more!
Both of them tried to put their clothes and hair in order, breathing heavily and just as Steve put his hand on the doorknob to leave the tiny room, Eddie said, 'You were my first kiss, too.'
5 years later, after battles and almost dying, Steve lies on Eddie's new (thankfully clean) mattress and says with a small smile, 'best first kiss ever,' only for Eddie to smirk and say, 'We could repeat it, you know?'
They've been best friends for the last few months, similar but so much different from how Steve and Robin are best friends, but when Steve looks at Eddie and his pink lips and the way his cheeks are hot and his eyes twinkle with something more, he knows that they could be so much more...

This is sort of a prologue, but Iâm calling it chapter one. Iâm really excited about this new series and I hope you will be, too!
â
âItâs my dream, baby. I canât let this opportunity pass us by. This could change our lives.â
You had heard it over and over again. The same words coming from the same man with his wide puppy dog eyes, holding both your hands in his as he occasionally reached up to wipe your tears away again. He knew he was breaking your heart, and he hated that more than anything, but he also felt confident he was making the right decision.
You had been thrilled for him when he walked home into the trailer, screaming about how a scout had actually been to The Hideout and approached Corroded Coffin (specifically Eddie himself) after their show. The two of you stayed up all night talking excitedly, thinking of what this would mean for the band, for Eddieâs dream. Then he proceeded to give you the best sex of your life.
Things moved fast after that. It turned out the label really liked Corroded Coffin, and they wanted them in the studio immediately. And it really was a dream, at first. Eddie and the guys had just graduated and they immediately dumped all their time into the studio and perfecting their songs. You spent near every day lounging around the studio, watching the band record, a grin on your face so big it hurt watching Eddie do what he does, the happiness simply exuding from him. You loved him deeply, and seeing him beginning to really live his dream was everything you ever hoped for.
When the album was done, it released to more success than any of you could have dreamed of. Corroded Coffin was building a substantial and dedicated fan base already, they were on the radio, everyone was begging for them to perform in their city. Thatâs when the tour started being discussed. And their new manager began to point out the fact that there were no opportunities in Hawkins - the band would be better off moving somewhere like California.
You had never really thought Eddie wanted to leave like that. Sure he always dreamed of the band making it big, but you always assumed at the end of the day he would come home to Hawkins, come home to you. But it was obvious immediately that Eddie and the guys were completely on board with the idea of moving.
âEddie, I canât move to California,â you had explained, pacing around your tiny shared bedroom and huffing a humorless laugh. âMy family is here. My mom and Dustin. All my friends are here. Iâve never even lived anywhere else.â
Eddie had ran his hands through his wild curls, another sigh escaping his lips. âI know, baby. But we could make a life out there, you and me.â
Tears had begun to well up in your eyes. âI would be left alone all the time, Eds. Youâd be so busy with all the band stuff and being famous, and Iâd be stuck alone, states away from home with no friends or family or support system.â
Eddieâs face fell, because he knew that was true. He hated the idea of being apart from you, but he hated the idea of making you follow him and be miserable, too. âWe could do long distance?â
The tears actually began to fall then, and you collapsed on the bed next to him, your face in your hands. âI donât know, Eddie. It sounds awful.â
Eddie didnât say anything else as he started rubbing your back. He didnât know if there was anything else to say. Those were your options, and none of them were great. But he knew if he passed up this opportunity, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
There were many variations of the same argument over the next few months as Eddie and the band prepared for the move to California and the beginning of the tour. There were a lot of tears. A lot of fighting followed by make up sex. None of the arguments ever made any actual progress, you always found yourselves stuck right back at the beginning.
Now Eddie stood in front of you, holding both your hands in his as you cried your eyes out in front of him. His heart was shattered in his chest. But the day had finally come, the bus was packed and waiting as the band said their goodbyes. It was somehow one of the best days of his life, while also being the worst.
âYouâre sure you donât want to come with me?â Eddie asked you again, although at this point it was too late, they were leaving now.
You sniffled, your face already red and eyes puffy from the amount of crying youâd done in the past few months but especially today. It seemed you only got more and more emotional about the whole thing as time went on. âI canât,â you said, which is exactly what Eddie knew youâd say.
Eddie looked at you with the pain visible in his eyes. He moved his hands to gently hold either side of your face and pulled you in, placing a gentle, lingering kiss on your lips. Like it was the last time.
âI love you,â he said. âI will always love you.â
You were pretty sure there was nothing left of your heart to break. âI love you too, Eddie.â
He pulled you into a tight hug. You never wanted to leave that embrace - it felt so final, and you always hated goodbyes. Eddie held you until one of the crew members tapped him on the shoulder, telling him it was time to go.
He pulled away from you reluctantly. He looked you in the eyes for a moment before placing a kiss to your forehead. Then he was turning and walking away.
You watched him go, duffel bag and guitar case slung over his shoulder, the rest of everyoneâs belongings and the bandâs supplies packed tight under the bus. You watched as he climbed the stairs and turned, giving you one last look before you lost sight of him.
You stayed and watched until the bus drove away, down the road and completely out of your view. Taking your heart and soul with it.
â
It was two weeks later when the positive pregnancy test stared you in the face.
You couldnât believe it, but at the same time, it did seem like that would be just your luck.
You had been feeling sick for the past week, but convinced yourself it was the nerves and emotions over Eddie leaving and the break up. You hadnât even heard from Eddie since he left, despite his insistence that heâd call, relationship or not. You hoped he had just been busy and he hadnât simply forgotten about you that quickly. Youâd been together for two years before he left, you didnât think you were that unimportant to him.
You cried on the bathroom floor of your new apartment for who knows how long. Your life was over, you felt quite sure. Eddie was long gone, who knows where at this point, with no plans to return. And now you were carrying his baby.
You didnât say a word about it to anyone for a while. You had to work through it in your own head first. What did you even want to do? The thought of an abortion crossed your mind, but ultimately you felt you couldnât go through with it. You could handle things on your own, you thought. Your waitressing job at the diner paid well enough for you to live off of, especially with all the overtime you picked up. Could you have and raise this baby on your own?
A week after the positive test, you broke the news to your mom and younger brother. Your mom cried, of course, which made you feel terrible. You had always imagined telling this news one day to be a joyful occasion, but that wasnât your reality now. Your reality was being a single mother at 18. Dustin was in shock, but he seemed excited at the prospect of being an uncle, at least. You avoided all questions about Eddie.
Next, you broke the news to your best friends Steve and Robin, leaning over the counter of Family Video. They may have been more shocked than your family had been, and they both absolutely freaked out.
âYouâre gonna have a baby,â Steve had choked out, as if that part was hard enough to say, âat 18, by yourself?â
Having the facts spelled out in front of you like that did nothing to help, and you burst into tears for the millionth time in the middle of the video store. Robin shot Steve a look before she was hopping over the counter to wrap you in a tight hug.
âWhat Steve meant to say,â Robin said, glaring at your mutual friend over the top of your head, âis that weâre here for you, whatever you need. You donât have to do this all alone.â
You knew you needed to tell Eddie. And you definitely did have every intention toâŚbut he never called. Never. Not once. And that hurt you so deeply, and made you so angry, you refused to reach out to him first. SoâŚhe never got the news.
True to their word, Steve and Robin were the best support system. Dustin, too. Your mom called you every single night needing to know exactly how you and the baby were and how youâd spent your day and that you were making good choices, which drove you a little bit crazy but at least she cared.
Your pregnancy progressed healthily, and the weeks went by faster than you were prepared for. Watching your body grow and become unfamiliar to you wasâŚbizarre. And you missed Eddie. You started seeing Corroded Coffin popping up on magazine covers at the grocery store check out. Youâd lay your hand over your growing belly and think about what could have been, what wasnât.
Then youâd shove the magazine back in the rack and push him out of your mind.
Steve and Robin loved the belly. They found it fascinating, even if it made Steve a little squeamish. The first time the baby kicked you had been hanging around Family Video on your day off, looking through the new releases for a movie night with Dustin. You felt the strange flutter beneath your skin and you gasped, your hand shooting to that spot on your belly. You felt the kick again, against your hand.
Steve and Robinâs heads both shot up at the sound of your gasp. Robin was hopping over the counter and rushing to your side before Steve could catch up. âWhat is it? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?â Robin asked in a rush.
You just laughed, taking Robinâs hand and placing it where you had felt the kick. She looked at you strangely until you felt it again - her jaw dropped. âNo way!!!â she exclaimed.
âWhat?â Steve asked, confused and not liking feeling left out. Robin moved her hand as you let go and grabbed Steveâs instead, placing it in the same spot. Sure enough, there was another kick moments later.
âHoly shit!â Steve said, but he jerked his hand back like heâd been burned. âIt moved!â
You laughed. âThat was the first kick!â
Robin cooed to the unborn baby, her hands moving back to the bump. Steve kept his distance, but watched the two of you.
âItâs weird,â Steve finally said, âlike an alien. Have you seen Alien?â
Despite his squeamishness around a lot of pregnancy topics, Steve was an amazing support the entire time. He drove you to every appointment, Robin usually tagging along as well. They were there along with Dustin and your mom as you found out the gender of the baby - a boy.
Names were a big debate for a while. Not only choosing a name for your baby boy, but deciding what last name you would give him. You felt bad giving him your own last name and erasing Eddie entirely, but it also made no sense to give the baby the same last name as him when he didnât even know of his existence and would never meet or know him.
You went into labor early, at 35 weeks. It caught you by surprise when your water broke and contractions began at 2am while you were snuggled in bed. Steve and Robin were going to take turns staying at your apartment when you hit 38 weeks, but you never made it that far, so you were alone with no transportation. You fought off a panic attack as you stumbled into the kitchen and picked up the phone, breathing through an intense contraction.
ââlo?â was the sleepy reply when your call was picked up. It was obvious that Steve had been in deep sleep.
âStevie?â you had said, knuckles turning white as you gripped the edge of the countertop. âThe baby is coming.â
âWhat?â he certainly sounded a lot more awake after that. âLike, now? Itâs too early!â
âI know itâs early, but itâs definitely happening,â you said.
âShit, I- okay. Okay, shit. Iâm on the way right now.â
The call ended before you were able to say anything else, so you hung the phone back on the wall. You grabbed your bags from your bedroom, feeling grateful youâd packed so early. You paced as you waited for Steve, you couldnât stand to sit still when contractions started wracking through your body. Itâs the only thing that controlled some of the pain as you remembered your breathing exercises.
Thankfully it didnât take Steve long at all. You heard his tires squealing as he sped to a stop right in front of your apartment building. You didnât even have to look to know it was him. He was bursting through your front door moments later, sweating and looking panicked. He was dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt that was on backwards, his usually perfect hair completely mussed up.
âAre you okay?â he asked, grabbing onto your shoulders and looking you all over as if you might have had the baby already and hid him somewhere.
âIâm okay,â you said, needing him to calm down. âThe contractions are bad and theyâre coming on fast but Iâm okay. Your shirtâs backwards, by the way.â
Steve looked down at himself, a blush rising to his cheeks when he realized you were right. He pulled the shirt over his head and spun it around. âSorry,â he said shyly.
Steve grabbed your bags and helped you into his car. Less than an hour later you were set up in your hospital room, dressed in an ugly gown and hooked up to a bunch of monitors. Steve sat next to you, having already called Robin and your family for you.
When things had calmed and you were relaxing in the bed between contractions, Steve looked at you seriously.
âDo you want me to try to reach Eddie?â he asked tentatively, cautious of your reaction.
The reminder of Eddie on that day hit you harder than ever. Did you want Eddie to be there? Yes, more than anything. But the reality was that he was god knows where, living his rockstar lifestyle, completely unaware his ex-girlfriend back home was preparing to give birth to their son. It was partially your fault, you knew, but still. You didnât imagine he would have turned the bus around and quit the band to come play happy family with you, anyway.
âNo,â you told Steve simply. He nodded and squeezed your hand once, although he looked like he had more to say.
When it was time to push, you were surrounded by support. Steve, Robin, and your mom stayed in the room with you - Dustin, who had no desire to see any of what was about to go down, moved back to the waiting room until it was safe to return.
The birth was more complicated than expected. You pushed for a long time, your mom wiping the sweat from your face as the pain went on seemingly endlessly. The doctor started talking about a c-section, but you didnât want that. The thought terrified you. It motivated you to push even harder, and within the next 5 minutes, the baby was out and the room was filled with the sound of newborn cries. The doctor asked if Steve wanted to cut the cord, and he said yes without hesitating.
Your mom started bawling immediately, even Robin and Steve were tearing up at the sight of the baby, your baby boy. You tried to lean up to see him, but your head was so woozy, the second you lifted it from the pillow you felt like you were spinning. Nurses were working on the baby across the room while the doctor still hadnât moved from between your legs - but you couldnât get your brain to form a proper thought. Your vision was starting to get blurry and nausea roiled in your stomach.
The chatter in the room turned frantic, and you saw Steve turn to look at you in a panic, your motherâs sobs sounding less like happy crying now. You were confused as your mom and friends were quickly pushed away from your side and the sidebars on the hospital bed were lifted and locked into place. You caught some mentions of âemergency surgeryâ and âbleedingâ as the bed started moving before everything went dark.
You woke up in a quiet, brightly lit room. You squinted from the lights as you opened your eyes, looking around you confused. You felt incredibly sore, and more alert than before but still a little out of it.
âYouâre awake,â a relieved voice said, and you turned to see Robin by your bedside, looking exhausted.
You went to speak but found that your mouth was incredibly dry, your throat sore. Robin noticed immediately and grabbed a jug of water, holding the straw to your lips to help you drink. You accepted the help gratefully, and the ice water soothed your mouth and throat.
âThank you,â you croaked out as she set the water jug back on the rolling table. âWhatâŚhappened?â
Robin looked at you sympathetically. âYou were bleeding really bad. They had to take you back for emergency surgery. But youâre okay now,â she added the last part quickly, seeing the panic rising on your face. âThey got it under control. Youâre going to be just fine.â
You nodded, and Robin looked behind you as another voice spoke. You hadnât even realized you werenât the only two people in the room.
âSomebody wants to meet you, if youâre up for it.â
You turned to see Steve, holding a little bundle of blankets gently in his arms. He looked even more tired than Robin, but he also looked happy. Your eyes locked in on the tiny bundle as Steve brought it closer before leaning down and placing it gently in your arms.
He was perfect. Sure everyone thinks their baby is the cutest, but this one? This had to be the cutest baby to ever exist. Tears began to fall and a huge smile spread its way across your cheeks as you took in the sight of him. You looked him all over, wanting to memorize every part of him.
He looked like Eddie. The realization sent a pang of guilt and hurt through your heart. He had a head full of dark brown curly hair, and looked up at you with the same big brown doe eyes his father had that got him anything he wanted. You realized you had just created another little person who would have that power over you. He was still so small, only born 5lbs 6oz. But he was healthy, and strong. The hospital just wanted to keep him for a few extra days since he was premature.
Your mom and Dustin returned a minute later, both relieved to see you awake and alert. Dustin got to hold his nephew for the first time, and you took a photo on the polaroid camera you packed. You got a picture of everyone holding him, and your mom took plenty of you, one including Steve and Robin on either side of you like three proud parents.
Asher James Henderson was perfect. You had decided to give him your own last name, since you were doing it alone and you were the only parent on the birth certificate.
You were terrified of being a single mother - even with the amazing support you had, it was still horrifying to think about. But honestly? You rocked it.
Asher was a happy baby, hardly ever fussed and slept like an angel. He loved spending time with you, would light up in the brightest smile every time he saw your face. He was also close with Steve and Robin, who came by every day. Uncle Dusty was another favorite, and your mom stepped into the grandma role happily and easily. Things were not the nightmare you feared they would be.
He got a bit crazier once he entered the toddler years. Reminding you of Eddie and what he must have been like as a child - which happened every single day - he was full of endless energy, completely fearless and always looking for adventure. You spent most of your time chasing after him and stopping him from climbing the furniture. But he was also the sweetest kid in the world, full of love for his mom and loved ones.
2 ½ years after Eddieâs departure, things had become easier and easier. You were comfortable with your little life, your little unconventional family. You were happy. Sure, sometimes it felt lonely, but you didnât feel the need to date when you felt your attention should be all on Asher. And the idea of bringing a new man into his life scared you. So you didnât.
You liked your job at the diner. Youâd been there since the summer after graduation, and while it could be hard work and long hours, you loved your coworkers like family and it took care of you and Ash.
You were wiping down an empty table when the bell above the door chimed, signaling someone had entered the restaurant. You looked up to see Steve rushing in, breathless, still in his Family Video uniform. He held a piece of paper in his hand as he looked around, presumably for you.
When he spotted you he came walking over with purpose, which made you furrow your brows in confusion over what could possibly be so important.
Steve reached you and slammed the paper on the table in front of you. âYouâre not gonna believe this shit.â
You looked down at the paper - and felt your blood run cold.
ââŚCorroded Coffin is coming to Hawkins?â you asked, your voice suddenly weak.
âA homecoming show,â Steve scoffed. âThis weekend. I thought they were too good for us now, but I guess they can spare one little visit for us hicks.â
Steve looked pissed. Eddieâs calls had stopped for him, too, not long after he left. You werenât surprised - if he had abandoned you, the woman he claimed to be in love with for years, then nothing surprised you about him anymore. But Steve had been deeply hurt.
Your ears were ringing. You thought you might pass out. You couldnât believe what you were looking at - they were really coming here. Back home to Hawkins. Eddie and Asher would be in the same place and not even know the other existed.
âHey, hey,â Steve said, suddenly realizing you didnât look too good. He rubbed your back. âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have sprung it on you like that. I justâŚI just saw it and I freaked and I had to tell you.â
You shook your head. âNo, Steve, itâsâŚitâs alright. Iâm glad you told me. I guess it doesnât really matter, though. Itâs not like Iâll be going.â
Steve looked at you, his face etched with concern. âAre you sure you donât want to see him?â
You bit your bottom lip nervously. âI donât think so, Steve. I donât think I can.â
Steve nodded in understanding. âOkay. Well Iâm not gonna push you. But if you wanna go, try to talk to himâŚwe can do that. It could be good.â
You considered his words. Should you see Eddie? Let him explain himself? âŚMaybe tell him about his son? The thought made you feel like you could be sick.
âYou look pale,â Steve said, looking worried. âYou should sit down.â
You waved him off. âIâm fine.â Steve didnât look like he believed you, but he didnât push the subject. âLook, Iâll think about it, okay? I donât know what to do right now. I donât know what to think.â
Steve wrapped you up tight in his strong arms. âHey, itâs your decision, sweetheart. You let me know what you want and weâll make it happen. Iâll be right by your side either way.â
You nodded, grateful for Steveâs unwavering support as tears began to fall. Great, now you were crying and you still had 4 hours left of your shift.
Steve held you for a little longer, fingers soothingly brushing through your hair before he pulled back. âI gotta get going. I just totally ditched Robin to run over here the second that guy dropped these flyers off.â He ran a hand through his immaculate hair. âWeâll talk later, okay? Itâs okay. Everythingâs gonna be okay.â
You wanted to believe your friendâs words as you watched him go, but it was hard. You had finally found your footing on your own, and now Eddie was coming back to Hawkins and throwing everything off. Going to this show or not would be a life changing decision. Either you can keep living life as you are, ignore the show and Corroded Coffin leaves Hawkins again without giving you a second thoughtâŚor you go, talk to Eddie, and flip both of your lives upside down.
You felt thoroughly fucked.

Steve, realistically, shouldnât even be at this show. He doesnât care about the band, he didnât want to make the drive, and he had to bring Anna along because he couldnât find a babysitter.
But he was going to suck it up to go with Dustin, who immediately bought tickets to see his favorite band when they went on sale. Who called Steve this morning to inform him, somehow both solemnly and frantically, that he had the worst food poisoning known to man, and, that until he stopped puking and shitting at the same time, he could not leave the bathroom.
Steve very much did not need to know that.
With Dustin went the rest of the Babysittersâ Club, all of them having eaten the same shady pizza and suffering the consequences. The only exception was Mike, lactose intolerant but cursed to take care of his idiot friends.
He texted Steve to ask if he had extra bleach. Steve dropped it outside the house because no way in hell was he entering that building.
Dustin assured him, amidst too much detail and shockingly disgusting background noise, that both tickets shouldnât go to waste, and with no one able to babysit Anna, Steve should take advantage of both.
So, here he is. Standing in the first level - Dustin couldnât get floor tickets, thank God - of a show for a metal band he has no intention of ever listening to and holding his four-year-old daughter, who has bright pink ear defenders looped around her neck in preparation for when it gets really, really loud.
âWhen are they starting?â she asks for the fourth time in as many minutes, with a sigh too big for her little body.
âIn a few minutes,â Steve says, keeping an eye on the stage, where he watches the crew set up. Mad respect for them hustling so hard. He could never.
The seats are slowly filling up, and Steve feels a little sad for the first opener, a little sad that they donât have a full house for their set.
A group of four guys takes the seats right next to Steve, with a pale, long-haired, big-eyed guy right next to him. Heâs got tattoos on his arms and rings on all his fingers and a silver bar through his upper ear.
And heâs arguing emphatically with his friend next to him.
âIâm telling you, American Psycho is more recognizable!â he says, hands flying. Steve discreetly makes sure he and Anna arenât within striking distance. âNot to mention cheaper!â
âA prop chainsaw,â his friend - a short white guy with shorter but equally wild hair - says, âcanât possibly be that hard to find by tomorrow.â
âWe already have the axe!â
âIâm with Eddie,â the big white guy at the end of their group says. âIâm a sucker for American Psycho.â
âOkay, but Iâm the guy who has to use the props,â the fourth friend, a Black guy with short braids who looks annoyed at this conversation, like theyâve had it before. âAnd I think Iâd have more fun with the chainsaw.â
Eddie - the guy with long hair and heavy jewelry and hands with a mind of their own - rolls his eyes. Itâs a full body movement, one that has him spinning to face Steve. When he does, his face cycles through a myriad of emotions too fast for Steve to really track.
âHi, pretty boy,â he says. His eyes then dart down to Anna, who stares at him with her head cocked to the side. âPretty dad. Dad. Pretty. Hi.â
âEddie,â the short guy cautions.
âYeah, sorry, anyway, can you be a tiebreaker for us?â
âSure,â Steve says. Anna squirms, so he lets her out of his lap to stand, holding her hand all the while. âWhat do you need?â
âAmerican Psycho or Texas Chainsaw Massacre?â the big guy asks.
âYou gotta give him context.â
âNo, I donât, Jeff.â
The guy who said heâd be using the props - whatever that means - rolls his eyes and stops fighting.
âWhatâs American Psycho?â Anna asks, choosing the best time to pay attention to the conversation, like always.
âA movie youâre too young to see,â Steve says. âAnd the one Iâm picking out of those two.â
âOh, thank you,â Eddie says, using a tone that better fits Steve saving his drowning dog or something. He then turns to the rest of his friends and says, âI fucking told you!â
Anna gasps. âYouâre not sâposed to say that!â
Jeff smothers a laugh behind his hands, while the other three guys stare at Anna, half confused, half admiring.
Eddie clears his throat, looking significantly abashed. "Sorry, Miss-"
"Anna," she says.
"Anna," Eddie finishes. Then he turns to Steve. "And you are?"
"Steve. No Mister for me though. I might be a dad, but I'm not that old."
"You are old, Daddy," Anna says.
Steve frowns down at her, where she stands at his feet. She's smiling, mischievous like she always is when she says something along these lines. "I'm not that old."
"Yeah you are! You're like, you're like, like, fifteen."
Jeff gives up on hiding his laughter.
"I'm older than fifteen," Steve says gently, trying not to laugh.
Annaâs jaw drops. âYou are?â
âThank God for that,â Eddie mutters, then shuts his jaw with an audible click.
Steve tried to come up with an answer for that, but someone comes on a mic and starts playing the drums, so he moves the defenders over Annaâs ears and pays attention to the show instead.
It's... fun, he guesses. Fun if he were into it, maybe. The first opener has a lot of energy, even if the music isn't melodic enough for Steve's taste. He finds himself tapping along to the steady beat, moving slightly in his seat to the music.
It's nice background noise. He'd put this on while he grades papers. It's steady enough to fill his head but doesn't have a whole lot of lyrics he could get distracted by and sing along to.
Eddie and his friends, meanwhile, are having the time of their lives. The short guy - Gareth, Steve thinks his name is - mimes the drum part of each song with startling accuracy. Archie jumps up and down, Jeff absolutely screams along, and Eddie-
Anna stares up at Eddie, eyes wide and jaw slacked as she watches him bang his head to the music.
Steve almost snaps a picture of it, this little moment, before the second song ends and Eddie snaps out of his zone.
He shakes the hair out of his face, then looks down at Anna, who's still staring at him. "What?"
She cocks her head to the side in a mirror of his. "What was that?"
"What was what?"
"The," she pauses, then starts shaking her head really hard, side to side. Steve puts a hand on her shoulder before she slams into the chairs in the row in front of them.
Eddie laughs. "The headbanging?"
"Yeah," Anna says, nodding.
"It's a way I move to the music," Eddie explains.
"Like dancing?"
"Sort of," Eddie says. "It's easier. I look stupid when I dance."
"You're not s'posed to say that," Anna tells him solemnly. "Right, Daddy?"
Steve meets Eddie's eyes. Even with the lights down, they're big and pretty and reflective, and Steve is going to kick himself so hard if he chickens out before he can get his number.
"Right," he says, still looking at Eddie. "We're not supposed to call ourselves stupid."
"Sorry," Eddie whispers.
"Don't be."
Anna tugs on Steve's hand, then Eddie's. "Teach me."
"Anna," Steve cautions.
"Can you please teach me?" she corrects.
Eddie glances down at Anna, then back up at Steve. "If it's-"
"Go ahead," Steve says because Eddie has more than passed the vibe check at this point.
Eddie crouches down as a new song starts up, and while Steve can't hear what he's telling her, he sees her smile, bright as day.
By the last song of the first opener, Anna is headbanging along with Eddie, off-beat in the say little kids always are but more than making up for it with effort.
Steve gives into the impulse to take a picture.
When the first opener finishes, Steve picks Anna back up and takes her ear defenders off.
"Woah," she says. "Can I keep them-"
"Nope," Steve says. "They stay on when the music is on. You heard it fine, didn't you?"
"Yeah, but you-"
"I have my earplugs in," Steve says, pointing at them.
"So do I," Eddie says, and when he moves his hair back, sure enough, there are black earplugs nestled in his ears.
"You don't seem like the kind of guy to wear earplugs," Steve says.
"You don't seem like the kind of guy to come of a metal show," Eddie counters.
Anna climbs out of Steve's arms and onto his back, where she loops her arms around his shoulders and just hangs, like she does sometimes when she gets bored.
Weirdo kid, Steve thinks affectionately.
"That's because I'm not," Steve says. "I was supposed to come with a friend, but he got sick."
"Yikes," Eddie says. "You coming tomorrow, too?"
"I am," Steve says. "Are you?"
Eddie raises his eyebrows, like he didn't expect Steve to ask that. "Yeah, we'll be here. Not in these seats, though."
The lights go back down before Steve can ask what he means by that. He reaches behind him, scoops Anna back down on the ground, and puts her ear defenders on by the time the second opener strikes a scary-sounding opening chord.
Anna doesn't look scared at all. From the moment the music starts, she looks up at Eddie, and when he starts headbanging, she does, too.
Yup. Steve has effectively created a monster.
He contemplates, if Dustin is fine by tomorrow, skipping out on the show and giving his ticket to Anna, but that means not seeing Eddie again.
He really wants to see Eddie again, even if he wonât have the same seats.
Whatever that means.
Steve decides not to focus on that. He decides instead to focus on the moment. He listens to the music. He lets Anna take his hand and dance with it. He bops his head along with hers, but not too hard because he canât risk aggravating his whiplash.
He enjoys the show, even if itâs not his cup of tea. Itâs easy to enjoy the show, with Eddie next to him. Itâs easy to enjoy his wild hair and pretty jewelry and big eyes and contagious enthusiasm.
Itâs easy to see the way Eddie looks at him.
Itâs also very easy, after the venue clears and Anna falls asleep in the car on the way home, to forget to ask for his number.
Shit.
(Part 2 is alive!!)

Robin might platonically marry Steve, though it's not the only reason, just so she can say dramatically in an argument:
"That's it! I'm divorcing you, and I'm taking everything!"
It's usually only said when they're playing monopoly. Steve would respond with:
"Fine! But I'm keeping your last name and the kids!"
"I never wanted them in the first place!" Robin shrieked.
"What a rude thing for our dad to say," Dustin said.
They were eating popcorn and watching the whole thing unfold before them.
"Well, it's not like we don't all have daddy issues," Max said. "Except for Lucas."
"What am I looking forward to with that? Any advice?" Lucas said.
"Don't date older men," Max said. "Especially ones who are old enough to actually be your father."
"You mean the same age as Robin?" Lucas asked.
"Yeah," Max said.
"Damn, there was this cute college guy - "
"Cheating whore!" Robin shrieked.
"And here it comes," Max grinned.
She hollered and flipped the table.
"Yeah, that's right, I cheated. Dustin isn't yours!" Steve yelled.
"I knew it!" Robin gasped.
"Okay, so when Dustin said that things get intense with Steve and Robin during Monopoly. . ." Nancy said, trailing off.
"Yeah, he wasn't kidding," Jonathan said.
Eddie was gaping with Jonathan, Nancy, Vickie, Chrissy, and Argyle while the kids watched from the sidelines.
"Who else isn't mine?! I bet it's both Mike and Dustin. They both could be Eddie's! Look at them!" Robin yelled.
"Babe, I swear, I didn't touch Steve," Eddie said to Chrissy.
"Okay, first off, Dustin and Mike are not actually Steveâs sons, and two, this is just a game," Chrissy said. "Also, Steve can't get pregnant."
"Oh no! Did the doctor say why?" Eddie asked with a gasp.
"Eddie? Did you smoke with Jonathan and Argyle without me?" Chrissy asked.
"Totally," Argyle said.
"The wedding rings were a nice touch," Nancy said.
"Oh, no, they actually got married. I was the witness!" Vickie exclaimed happily. "I got to kiss the bride!"
"What?!"
"We were at Steve's house when Steve's parents came home and immediately started ragging on Steve about what a disappointment he was, that they were his only family. . .blah, blah, blah. Anyway, Robin was like "not anymore" before dragging him out of the house. We went to a wedding chapel, and I watched as my girlfriend married her platonic soulmate," Vickie said. "It was a beautiful ceremony. Didn't you notice that Steve took her last name?"
"I thought he kept calling for Robin whenever someone said Harrington," Jonathan realized. "He was correcting them."
"Buckley!" Argyle laughed.
"Yeah!" Steve and Robin yelled, looking at them.
"Holy shit," Dustin muttered.
"Well, hey, we're no longer bastards," Max said. "Except Mike. There's no fixing that."
"Hey!"

After Eddie seems to become a staple member of the group, Steve pulls him aside and says, "Hey, I just wanted to warn you that I can be a bit bitchy at times, and don't be afraid to tell me if I ever go too far. Dustin calls me out all the time."
Eddie softly smiles and lays a gentle hand on Steve's arm. "My friends have to tell me when I go too far with flirting, so you can call me out on that too. No worries."
Steve's head spins a bit. Eddie 'The Freak' Munson goes too far when flirting? He snorts. "I don't think you'd ever go too far with me."
Eddie's head tilts to the side as he takes Steve in. "You don't believe me." It's more of a statement than a question.
"I don't," Steve confirms. "But hey, I'll let you know if something you say makes me cream my pants."
Eddie smiles wide. "You know, my words might not, but I know something else that will if you're down later."
Steve feels himself take in an involuntary deep breath as the shock reaches his system. Instead of letting Eddie in on it, he leans in and says, "I'll let you know."
Eddie's eyes flicker down to his lips, and Steve is reminded of the hand on his arm as it squeezes hard for a moment. "You're so damn pretty, big boy. Would love to see you absolutely wrecke-"
"Guys."
Steve's head whips around to where the rest of the group is staring at them. He's not sure when they racked up an audience.
"Steve here said I couldn't go too far with the flirting. I'm giving him a first-hand experience with it," Eddie says shamelessly while wrapping an arm around his shoulder.
"I still don't think you can," Steve says turning to him which is the wrong thing to do because he didn't realize how close Eddie was to him.
The other boy takes advantage of it and leans in a little closer, brushing his nose against Steve's. "Is that a challenge?"
His heart beats hard in his chest, but Steve isn't one to back down, so he lets his hand come up to cup Eddie's jaw. "If you want it to be," he replies.
Eddie seems to falter a bit at this, and his own breathing rate increases.
"Guys," Dustin says again but more exasperated.
Steve turns to him and quickly says, "One more interruption and I'll throw you through another gate."
"Woah, too far," Dustin says, pointing at him and Eddie, "Both of you."
Steve holds his hands up and takes a step away from Eddie. âAlright. Okay. Iâm sorry. Too far.â
Dustin nods and turns back to the group.
Steve thinks thatâs the end of things until Eddie leans in and whispers, âWeâll chat later, sweetheart.â
He tries not to have a physical reaction to him. He doesnât know why his flirting is taking him so off guard. But itâs nice to have someone who can keep up with the Harrington charm.
Maybe.
Later that night, Steve is surprised when Eddie doesnât stick behind and keep his promise. But it gives him a minute to breathe after all the flirty winks and innocent fleeting touches whenever Eddie would pass him.
He tries to just shake it off as a normal reaction to being the target of such intense flirting that he's not sure he's ever experienced before. But it feels like something more than that.
He sleeps it off and doesn't think much of it especially when he gets into his Family Video routine. Then, the bell to the front door rings, and Steve launches into his, "Welcome to Family Video," speech which is quickly cut off when he sees Eddie walk in.
Nothing is really different except he has his hair pulled back into a messy bun that makes Steve's hands flex wanting to touch. Shit.
"Hi gorgeous," Eddie says with a bright smile, leaning across the counter.
Steve feels a blush creep up his neck and spread across his face. "Hi," he replies. Then he remembers their little challenge and doesn't hold back from reaching up, tucking a stray curly strand behind Eddie's ear. "You should wear your hair like this more often. Lets me see more of you."
It's Eddie's turn to blush as he glances down with a soft smile.
"So, what brings you in today? Not that I'm complaining, I would take any excuse to see that pretty face of yours," Steve says, laying it on heavy.
Eddie snorts as if he's joking.
Steve uses his hand to softly tilt Eddie's jaw so he can look at him. "I'm not kidding," he insists, rubbing his thumb over his bottom lip slowly. Shit, he has such soft lips.
Eddie's lips move forward as if on impulse, quickly kissing the pad of his finger. His eyes widen, and Steve sees the way both of their breath hitch in their chests.
"Too far?" Eddie asks quietly.
"Not even close."
Eddie holds his gaze for a moment, searching for something. He must not find it because he pulls back a bit, putting more space between them than Steve wants. "I was just stopping by to see you," Eddie confesses.
"Yeah? Why's that?" Steve asks with a smile.
Eddie shrugs. "Just wanted to."
It takes Steve back a bit. He was expecting some sort of line, but the response sounds entirely genuine. He doesn't know how to respond.
Eddie fidgets with his rings for a moment before saying, "Well, I'll see you later." He turns quickly and leaves before Steve has a chance to respond.
"Okay, what the hell was that?" Robin asks, startling Steve.
"Shit," Steve says, laying a dramatic hand over his chest. "How long have you been listening?"
"Considering I've been literally right behind you this entire shift and you guys didn't even try to make that a private conversation, I listened the whole time."
Steve runs a hand through his hair and says, "I basically challenged him yesterday to try to be too much when he flirts because apparently he can do that. But yeah, it's no big deal." He smiles and shakes his head as if it's clear as day that this is not affecting him at all.
Robin stares at him for a second before jabbing her finger into his chest repeatedly. "Don't you lie to me! I'm your best friend! You were totally flirting back and you got flustered! No one does that to you!"
"Ow!" Steve says, backing away after a particularly hard jab. "Okay! Okay! Yes, it's flustering me a bit, but I've never had someone who could keep up with me."
"Gross."
Steve rolls his eyes. "You know what I mean."
He resumes stacking his tapes until Robin scoots in next to him and says, "You know, it's okay if it's more than that."
Steve pauses and thinks about it. Is it more than that? He shakes his head and whispers, "I don't know if it is."
Robin's arms slowly wrap around his waist, and Steve leans his head on top of hers. Maybe the flirting has gone too far already, but he doesn't want it to end. And that's a scary thought.
He finishes out his shift, thinking about what Robin said while trying to interpret his own feelings. After they close, Steve drives Robin home and heads back to his house. Only, he makes a split-second decision and takes a different turn, heading toward Eddie's new place.
Might as well figure this out now.
He rushes to the side of his new trailer and taps on his bedroom window. The curtains open and Eddie looks at him confused. Steve mouthes Is your uncle home?
Eddie shakes his head and points to the front door before closing the curtains.
Steve rushes to the door and steps inside as soon as Eddie opens it. He closes it behind him and looks at Eddie. God, his heart races even when he doesn't say anything.
"Hi," Steve says with a big smile.
"Hi," Eddie replies, pulling his hair in front of his face.
"No bun?" Steve asks.
"I can put it up if you like."
Steve shakes his head. "No, it looks great."
Eddie smiles and steps closer to him, running a hand through Steve's hair. "Not everyone can have such luscious hair as you."
Steve closes his eyes and leans into the hand. It feels nice.
"So, are you taking me up on my offer from before?" Eddie asks.
Steve opens his eyes and takes in the flirtatious glint in his eyes. "Depends on what you're offering."
Eddie moves in closer and puts his hands in his pockets. "Anything that you'd like."
Steve wraps his arms around Eddie's shoulders and flirts back, "Anything?"
Eddie's hands wrap around his waist. "Anything."
"Kiss me then."
Eddie freezes in his arms, the flirtatious look leaving his face as he looks at him. "Steve..."
"Too far?" Steve asks, not stepping back.
Eddie looks at his lips and back at his eyes. "You know I could never say no to you."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," Eddie says, leaning forward, brushing his nose against Steve's. He waits a moment and whispers, "Can I kiss you?"
"Yes," Steve says, moving forward to meet Eddie, connecting their lips in a kiss that makes Steve realize this is definitely more than just a challenge.
His hands move into Eddie's hair, trying to bring him closer as Eddie's hands trail up and down his back, pressing into him.
Steve breaks the kiss, breathing deeply before going right back in, deepening the kiss when he feels Eddie's tongue trace the seam of his lips.
Shit, he needs to make sure this isn't just him flirting.
He slows the kiss and gently pulls away, only for Eddie to kiss him again, pulling him in even closer, only breaking away when Steve breaks the kiss again and rests his forehead against Eddie's.
Eddie squeezes his eyes shut and says, "Please, let me just stay in this a little longer before it has to end."
Steve's heart thuds in his chest as he works up the courage to ask, "Does it have to end?"
Eddie slowly pulls away and looks at him. "Steve, that was too far and we both know it."
"What if it wasn't?" Steve asks.
Eddie looks at him with his eyebrows furrowed in confusion and maybe even sorrow. "It was for me."
Oh. Steve steps back a bit and nods, running both his hands through his hair. He pauses and looks at Eddie who looks unbelievably scared. There's no way he thinks that he didn't enjoy that... right? "Eddie-"
"Don't, Steve. It's fine. I won't tell anyone."
Steve shakes his head and steps forward, only for Eddie to step back in fear. "Eddie, you can't seriously think this was just me seeing how flirtatious you can be, right? At least, that's not what it was to me."
"It's not?"
"No," Steve says and steps forward again, "Look, I don't know what changed, but from the first moment you started flirting with me, it's felt like more than a challenge. And yes, maybe it's been less than a full day since then, but I really like you. And I don't want the flirting to be fake anymore."
Eddie takes a second to process what he's saying then asks, "This isn't flirting going way too far, right?"
Steve shakes his head. "No."
Eddie smiles. "So, you're saying that my flirting worked?"
"If you agree to go on a date with me, then yes."
Eddie's face lights up. "I'll say yes if you still promise to tell me if it ever goes too far."
"Like I said, I don't think it ever could."
"And I think it can, my fuzzy wuzzy bear."
Steve's nose scrunches in disgust while Eddie stares at him with a manic smile, waiting to hear his reaction. "Okay! Too far! That was horrible."
"I know," Eddie says with a laugh. "And you still want to go out with me?"
"Yes," Steve says without hesitation, "But please, no more horrible nicknames or I'll find out what's too far for you."
Eddie winks. "I look forward to it."
Steve laughs while shaking his head before he pulls Eddie into another kiss.
And while Eddie never really goes too far with Steve, the kids and Robin chime in often to alert Eddie when they've had enough. But it never seems to stop him.

Iâm waiting at the gate to board a plane, so have the next blip of thought for that high angst secret admirer thing
-
Lucas, the only of the kids with an ounce of emotional awareness knows that something is up with Steve. He also knows that Eddie has been in a manic grief. He doesnât connect the two. Yet.
He sits with Steve and Robin at lunch at least a couple times a week, and screw Hellfire if they have a problem with it. Basketball team too. Steve is a full stop loser now, and Lucas was for years, heâs going to stand by him. Also, Steve saved his life, literally, repeatedly, high school popularity doesnât exactly compare.
Ofc Steve tells him he doesnât need to, but Lucas knows that the guy is sad about something, and extra sad that Dustin is still following Eddie like a duckling. Robin calls him out on it, but Steve has been talking about himself like heâll never be more than a bullying popular kid. Lucas hates that most of all.
Then again, Eddie is obviously spun up about something. Heâs twitchy and snappish, but heâs being nicer than normal to the jocks and popular kids. The thread he can pull on is seeing Eddie scribbling in a notebook - not his campaign notebook - but guarded just as carefully. Lucas follows him eventually and sees the poor, abused copy of the Hobbit in the library.
He reads the start of one, an apology for whatever he did that made his admirer stop writing. Thereâs a quote near the end from what must have been the other persons last note.
Lucas is smart. Lucas can see the pattern. He takes every single letter. Isnât going to read them, but the one he read made it clear the both were gay, and thereâs only one Eddie in school who would reference lord of the rings.
Itâs for Eddieâs safety. Itâs for Steveâs safety.
He doesnât tell anyone. Not even Robin or Max, who have closed ranks around Steve.
Lucas feels like the worst person on the planet when Eddie is giddy the next day. Then his mood sinks back down as the days go by.
Since he isnât actually the worst, Lucas doesnât read the letters. Or tell Steve he knows. By the start of winter break, Eddie has stopped leaving letters. All of which are in a box under Lucasâ bed. Heâs meaner after break. His rants are more pointed. Lucas gets called out for playing basketball and betraying nerds everywhere.
Steve is withdrawn and quiet, doesnât even show up to lunch most days, and just keeps telling them that they donât need to pretend they like him because of the Upside Down. That itâs okay. He knows who he really is. He laughs it off as a joke when someone argues.
But Lucas pays attention, understands why Steve thinks that, and honestly, it makes him hate the Hellfire guys a little. Makes him resent Mike and Dustin even more.
