Hi-Dee-Ho Quizard. So I was wondering how like traveling would have been affected by quirks? Like surely they would have needed to change airplanes or create special vehicles to accommodate the new genetic society they were thrust into.

Believe it or not, I don't think much would change, at least with travel itself. Considering how everyone is still mostly human-shaped, there isn't much incentive for change things. However, this is one of those cases where things should have changed but likely didn't. Something like a brand of clothing is ultimately pretty easy to produce for someone with specific physical needs, but what about something like a car or a bus? That's going to require sweeping changes or specific alterations to be made to accommodate an ultimately small portion of the population. If Hori wanted to point out how society hasn't properly accommodated the rise of Quirks, transportation would have been a good way to show it. I can imagine someone like Shoji having issues fitting in with his massive arms.

Though for traveling itself, I think there would be a lot of changes to how things are handled. Because now someone can get onto the plane with two bombs basically strapped to their hands that you cannot remove. I would have to think that something like the Air Marshalls would be supplemented by heroes to prevent any hijackings or if some guy gets too nervous on his flight and unleashes an EMP. Meanwhile, there could be a case where pirates are more brazenly attacking ships to raid and ransom people now that they have something like Quirks to help them. Which makes me wonder if there could be something like international heroes, ones that travel with cargo and cruise ships on open waters to protect them. Or if the Quirk laws would even apply to international waters.

On that note, I would have to think that certain kinds of extra restrictions and measures would be put into place to keep people from abusing their Quirks or even traveling. I'm not even talking about someone like Bakugou and Kamakiri getting checked for extra screening, though that would certainly happen and could help to show more issues with the world. I'm talking more about the Quirks that can make people do bad stuff once they get off the plane. If officials are worried about certain contraband making it across borders, then people are going to be met with a lot of scrutiny if they have any power tied to that. If someone like Momo could create even something as small as banned candy, you better believe they'd be doing a lot of background checks on her and her intentions.

MHA Mezo Shoji x Reader - Smile with your Eyes

Summary: Who knew one compliment would turn Shoji's whole world on its head?

"You should smile more, you have a lovely smile." The comment caught Shoji so off guard, he stopped in his tracks, doing a double take as you passed by. He wasn't even fully convinced his mind hadn't made it up to torment him over his crush on you.

"Did you say something?" He asked, paused in the hallway, tilting his head when you looked back at him with a warm smile.

"I said you have a lovely smile, Shoji." You repeated sweetly before turning back to go on your way.

Little did you know, that small compliment set Shoji's world on fire. When had you seen him without a mask? He couldn't for the life of him remember. He racked his brain trying to figure it out, deconstructing the praise until it turned onto an insult. Were you mocking him? You'd never do that, right?

Regardless, Shoji continued to stew on your comment for days. He began to avoid you, look over his shoulder, even when he knew he was alone, worried you might be spying on him. He was so paranoid.

"Shoji," You stood in front of him, his back against a wall- literally. "Are you mad at me?" You blinked up at him, head tilted slightly.

"W-Well-" He started, feeling heat creep up the column of his neck. "I-I..."

"I'm sorry if I did something to hurt your feelings, just tell me what it was so I don't do it again," you explained matter of factly. "I care about you, you're my friend and I want to make sure I'm not accidentally repeatedly hurting your feelings. You had always been a very straightforward person, not seeing the point in beating around the bush. This was the most efficient way to fix the issue in your mind.

Despite your frankness, Shoji was further confused by the conviction behind your words. You can't possibly be this oblivious to his reasons for avoiding you unless he'd misunderstood everything all along. "Y-You said I had a lovely smile..." He finally confessed, rigid against the wall, feeling silly for letting someone half his size pin him without even physically touching him.

"I'm sorry," you promptly apologize. "I didn't think saying so would upset you," you admit with a serious but kind expression. "I actually still don't but my mother always says 'it doesn't matter how your words hurt someone, if they do, you just apologize.'"

Your reaction caught him by surprise. So it wasn't a prank then. Boy, did he feel silly. He raised a dupli-mouth to explain, only to be interrupted by your index finger against his lips. "I don't have to understand how what I said hurt you, just that it did and that I shouldn't repeat it."

"Wait," he finally said, hands finding your shoulders, yanking away when you jump in surprise. "D-Did you mean it...?"

"Of course I did," you answered bluntly, peering up at him, relaxing under his touch. "I wouldn't have said it otherwise. I think you have a bright and genuine smile. It lights up my day when I see it."

You could almost see the blush rise up over the hem of his mask as he swallowed, eyeing you cautiously. "But you've even seen me without a mask," he argues weakly. "Y-You haven't have you?"

"No," you confirm, feeling the tension release from his muscles. "But I don't see what that has to do with it." Shoji was beginning to wonder if you were stupid, or if you were talking about his dupli-mouths when suddenly, you shifted, raising the textbook in your hands to cover your face from the nose down.

He couldn't keep from melting at the warm, kind grin that cracked across your face from behind the book. Though he couldn't see your lips, he didn't miss the way your eyes sparkled and the corners of your eyes crinkled, pushed up by your glowing cheeks. "When someone smiles, you can see it in their eyes." You explain, not that it was needed. Tucking the book under your arm, you reach up, fingertips brushing his tan skin, feeling just left of his eye. "You don't have crow's feet, so that means you don't smile often, or you didn't used to, at least. But I've noticed lately you smile a lot. I can tell because your eyes always light up when you do."

Shoji's breath hitched as you deconstructed him. Had you always been this smart? Or were you just really observant? "I don't know much about you, and that's okay," you continued. "But I know you must have had a time in your life where you didn't have anything to smile for." How could you possibly keep hitting the nail on the head? It unnerved him how you unknowingly unravelled all his secrets, giving him the warmest smile all the while.

"I said what I said because I wanted to know that I like your smile, and I appreciate seeing it," you gently reassure. "But I understand it made you uncomfortable, so I won't-"

"No, please," he finally choked out, glancing away nervously. "I-I don't want you to stop saying it." He finally confessed, confusing you further. "It...means a lot from you, and I'd like to hear it more often, actually..."

Your shoulders finally slump and you beam up at him, joy radiating from you as you nod in understanding. "I love your smile, Shoji, please let me see it more often!"

He had no idea what compelled him to do it, but he glanced around, checking that the coast was clear before reaching up and very briefly yanking his mask down, flashing a sunny grin, eyes closed and brows furrowed. It was the type of smile you'd seen multiple times on the likes of Kirishima or Kaminari, but never on Shoji.

Your eyes wet, you took him in, trying to memorize his visage for the few seconds he showed it. His smirk was all scar tissue and straight, perfect teeth. "Shoji..." you whispered, breath swallowed. "You're smile..."

For a moment, Shoji could feel the guilt of a grave mistake crawl up his back and sit on his shoulder like a little devil. His hands retracted from your shoulders finally and his fist balled anxiously.

"You have the most beautiful smile in the world!"

♡ Mezo Shoji ♡

- I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t even have to tell this man that you’re sick honestly, he seems like the type that would want to check up on you fairly frequently so when he calls you and hears the tone of your voice he’s immediately like “You’re sick. Relax and get comfortable, I’m coming over to take care of you” and heads straight to your dorm

- And take care of you he does, this boy refuses to let you lift a finger while he’s around and will do absolutely anything you ask of him (and even things you don’t, because he can tell what you need even when you don’t want to tell him because you don’t want him to work himself too hard)

- And no matter how much you insist that you’re fine and that he doesn’t need to do so much for you, he won’t listen and will insist that it’s no trouble for him to take care of his partner while they’re sick, and that he knows you’d do the same for him

- Of course, he’ll never do anything you don’t want him to. If you’re too nauseous to eat he won’t make food, and if you just want to sleep and be alone for a while, then he’ll wait in the common room and let you have your peace and quiet to rest

- But he won’t let you shoo him off just because you’re afraid of burdening him, he insists he’s happy to help you with whatever you may need no matter what it may be

- Need to eat something? He’ll prepare any meal from scratch that you want, making sure it’ll be easy on your stomach. Throwing up? He’ll hold your hair for you if it’s long enough to get in the way, and he’ll rub your back and help you through it as best as he can. Out of pain meds? He’ll head out to the store no matter how late it is

- His dupli-arms actually make it quite easy for him to take care of you, as they allow him to get multiple tasks done at once (brewing a nice cup of tea for your throat while also cooking you a meal, for example) and he’s never far from you for more than a few minutes at a time while you're sick

- His quirk also makes him really good at massages, so if your body is sore from the sickness he will happily massage you wherever you need, for as long as you need until you feel better

- He also does not care at all about getting sick, you’re more important to him and he will happily catch your illness if it means taking care of you and cuddling you until you fall into a restless sleep

- This boy is so good with his words when it comes to you, so even if you come to him crying and miserable because you just feel so ill and can’t do anything without feeling horrible, he knows exactly what to say to soothe your cries as he holds you while still validating your feelings

- Overall Shoji is a very patient, doting lover when you’re sick, and he’s exactly the kind of boyfriend you’d want by your side through your illness as he’d comfort you and get you feeling better in no time <3

♡ Eijiro Kirishima ♡

- Kiri is the type of boyfriend to get so sad when you tell him how unwell you’re feeling :( 

- It breaks his heart to see you in that much pain, and even if you try and sugarcoat things and make it seem like you’re not that sick, he’ll see straight through you and insist that he’d be by your side even if it were nothing more than a small cold

- He’s quick to cancel all his plans for the next few days, insistent on being at your beck and call while you’re suffering like this. Even if all you want is some time to relax and rest by yourself for a while, he wants to make sure he’s free and with your notifications turned up on his phone just in case some kind of emergency happens or you need him for any reason

- Now, Kirishima’s actually been working on improving his cooking skills lately by convincing Bakugo to give him some pointers and watching his angry friend when he does cook, so he’s able to make you the perfect food to ease your stomach!

- Homemade soup has actually become one of his specialties, so he’s more than happy to make you some delicious food to help keep you as healthy as possible during this time <3

- He’s also big on giving you massages whenever you mention how sore your body feels. He’s gentle and puts pressure on all the right places to help ease your pain, and he’s more than willing to give them as often as you want! He even suggests it if he can tell you’re hurting but you don’t want to say anything

Kiri's always found hydration very important due to his rigorous workout routine, so while you're sick he makes sure you're drinking enough water to keep your body hydrated. You're already suffering enough as is, don't need to add dehydration into the mix (especially if you're having trouble keeping food down)

- He’s another one who doesn’t shy away from cuddles and even kisses in the slightest, he doesn’t care about the risk of catching your sickness

- He’s lucky enough to have a really good immune system and rarely ever gets sick, but even without that he just can’t resist the urge to hold and kiss you whenever you hold your arms out for him <3 He loves you so much, he will literally never say no to physical affection of any kind with you

- If you start overthinking or telling him how you feel bad relying on him so much for help, he immediately shuts you down with a sweet kiss and some enthusiastic words of support and encouragement

- “Babe, don’t be silly! There’s nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it, it takes a brave person to get through feeling this terrible! You’re doing awesome and I love taking care of you like this, it’s literally my job as your boyfriend to look after you in times like this! So don’t let your mind tell you anything different, I love you and I wanna help!”

- He’s just the absolute sweetest and is willing to be whatever you need during your sickness, and all he asks in return is more kisses and cuddles when you’re up to it and feeling better :>

♡ Tamaki Amajiki ♡

- I hate to say it, but Tamaki would 100% be the overthinking, hovering boyfriend if he found out you were even just coming down with a small cold, so he is incredibly stressed when he finds out just how sick you are this time around

- He immediately begins to hover over your every move, constantly asking how you’re doing, if you need anything, if you’ve eaten or drank enough water, if you’re going to die-

- Safe to say his stress and anxiety have a tendency to get the better of him in these situations, and he admittedly can be a bit overwhelming when you first come down with such a miserable sickness when he realizes just how debilitated you are

- Inevitably, though, you reach a breaking point and ask him as calmly as you can in your unwell state to ease up on all the questions and constant fretting, as your mind simply doesn’t have the energy in your current state and his panic is only serving to make you stressed on top of everything else

- He really is a good boyfriend, though, so he’s quick to do as you ask and eases up a lot on the questioning and constantly hovering over everything you do, even if he is still worried about your health

- Once he’s stopped spiraling, he will notice without you needing to verbally tell him when you want some time to yourself to just rest vs. when you need to be held and taken care of, he’s incredibly perceptive due to his heightened anxiety so it’s easy to adapt to your ever-changing needs

- He is still prone to comforting you with cuddles if you’re open to it, though. Of course he’ll give you space without question if you ask, but in holding you, he can feel you - can feel that you’re still doing okay - and that comforts him as he comforts you

- And whenever you want him near you, he’ll wrap his arms around you and rub your back soothingly as he tells you how sorry he is that you’re in so much pain and how he wishes he could take it all on for you

- And if you’re feeling insecure or like a “burden” of any kind he’ll reassure you that he’s more than happy to take care of you, and that you deserve help and care when you’re feeling so ill. You don’t have to be strong in times like this

- Tamaki has a huge collection of tea since it helps with his anxiety quite a bit, he has every flavor imaginable and plenty of choices including decaf. So when you’re sick you will have your pick of the crop as he’s more than happy to share whatever you need. Rest assured, your throat will be soothed with warm herbal tea as long as your boyfriend’s around lol

- And even though social situations usually make him anxious, he’ll do anything you need while you’re sick. He knows it makes you feel nauseous to even stand up, so he’s more than willing to go out and order food for you or whatever you need even if the thought makes him internally want to shrivel up and crumble, because he loves you more than he fears others <3

- Tamaki may be a bit overwhelming at first when you get sick, but once he gets past that hurdle he will go above and beyond to get you well as soon as possible, he values you more than anything else and just wants to get rid of your pain as soon as possible :]

[1:13 a.m] sort of a part two to this No one had known Bakugo longer than Midoriya has. Ask Midoriya and he’d tell you that if you knew where to look, reading Bakugo was easier than reading an open book. 

Know him long enough, you might just be able to read him the way Midoriya does. Or fight side by side with him through an actual war. That works too.

“So how long do you guys think it’ll take before Bakugo gets his head out of his ass and confesses to [Y/N]?” Uraraka, just as tired as he is of this game, whines next to Midoriya.

“Uraraka, you know we shouldn’t be meddling in the love affairs of our classmates, it’s unbecoming of graduating students!” Iida objects to Midoriya’s right. Hypocrite. He’s watching just as intensely as the rest of them.

“Come on, just look at them!” Uraraka complains with a dramatic wave to where both you and Bakugo sit in the cafeteria, both your backs turned with shoulders pressed together, “I’m not Shoji, but I don’t need dupli-armed eyes to see the tension. They’re running out of time.”

Todoroki, God bless him, slides a slice of cake to placate Uraraka, “Why are you so invested in their relationship? I’ve never seen you so passionate about something since our first sports festival.”

“It’s cause Mina’s holding a betting pool for when they actually get together,” Uraraka justifies her nosey demeanor, “I bet over 2000 yen that they’d get together the week before our finals. I need the money, Todoroki. Neither you nor Iida would understand.”

While Iida scolds Uraraka, Midoriya watches as Bakugo picks up two trays to set away. Ever explosive, he yells at some joke you try poking him with but nonetheless still cleans up your mess for you.

Mina called Midoriya a madman when he bet over ten thousand yen. Asked him if he took a hit to the cranium and if she needed to get Recovery Girl, even. They’ve been dating since their 1-A days? Impossible.

Maybe he’ll treat Uraraka out for mochi when he gets his prize money next week.

OMG is it weird fishing headcanon time? Because I have one of those and it's that Shoji is secretly very good at noodling. For those who do not know, noodling is the practice of catching fish (usually catfish) by using one's bare hands as a lure. It is the most dangerous form of fishing, and there is a risk of losing fingers, but using dupli arms would mitigate this risk.

I love that, shoji probably has the most patience for fishing too, he’d be great at it

What's your opinions on hero name changes? I know lots of people change Mina's name back to Alien Queen (which she definitely deserves) but what about names like Hagakure's, Ojiro's and Satou's?

These are the ideas I have and explainations:

-Satou: Saccharong, based off saccharo which means sugar, and obviously the word strong.

-Ojiro: Whiplash, honestly ik I can do better but his whole deal is being plain so I like it! :)

-Jirou: Amp-Pulse, I LOVE THIS ONE. Basically the amp stands for amp chord but also getting "amped up" which I think fits her vibe and the pulse stands for the medical word but also the pulse in music. And when said together it sounds like the word "impulse" which reflects heroism, acting on impulse, not standing around being a sidekick like she did in her internship.

-Todoroki: Thermafrost, I like to think this has a big meaning in universe but I honestly just came up with it thinking of the word permafrost and thermal, sounds cool though!

-Yaoyorozu: Genesis, meaning the origin or mode of formation of something. I think Momo deserves a biblical name like the goddess she is.

-Hagakure: Prism, yeah ik it's basic and everyone goes for it but I love it! I'm always happy to see cool scientific name ideas for her!!

-Shoji: Dupligänger, honestly it was so hard to come up with this lol, yk what dopplegänger means, the "dupli" stands for his quirk dupli-arms and the "gang" is a homage to gang orca his mentor. :)

would always try to make you crack at least a smile with his cheesy pick up lines or a dumb joke he saw off reddit. If it didn’t work he’d get all pouty, but if it did you would never hear the end of it from him.

if you were apart of the teen team he’d probably beg you to make him fly with you when going into a fight, his reason? an awesome entrance.

DEFINITELY would brag about you to invincible or dupli-kate. Or just have his arm around your waist 24/7 can’t let anyone gawk at you without knowing you’re his!! (ง'̀-'́)ง

"Hey, at least my girlfriend isn't a thousand years old!" Rex quipped with a smirk, earning an eye roll and groan from dupli-kate. "I mean, I like 'em timeless, but not that timeless." once again earning another smack upside the head. (·•᷄∩•᷅ )

rex would be your biggest cheerleader while you guys are fighting beside each other, but would still jump in front of any danger to protect you, and as you scold him while patching up his wounds, he could only focus on how hot you look in your suit. (¬_¬")

speaking about your suit you’d always find him gawking at you, practically drooling! or his hand squeezing your thigh and when you snap him out of it you’d get a response like “sorry babe, i can’t help it when my girlfriend is so sexy.” chuckling at your cringing face.

even though he would insist on going out he doesn’t mind settling for a simple movie night, cuddling under the covers, eating fast food, trying not to fall asleep not even halfway through the movie, and if he got caught sleeping he’d play it off with kissing you on the lips, easy way to get your forgiveness!

Rex shows his affection through small, thoughtful gestures, like bringing you your favorite tea or surprising you with a new book, earning him a kiss! ٩(ᵔ��ᵔ*)و

you caught him once wearing your cape and laughed at him as it got stuck while he tried to take it off, forever that memory being engraved in your mind.

he’d listen to you read from your books, having his full attention, but would end up asleep on your stomach, he loves your voice! it’s soo soothing for him.

while you guys lay in bed he’d always ask you to play with his hair, your hands feel like magic (pun might be intended..) that he melts in them and immediately passes out snoring.

and while you guys sleep he’d be totally clingy and stay like that the whole night, absolutely smothered by him, and if you push him off in the middle of the night because you feel like you’re in an oven. You’d wake up again to his arms wrapped around you and his face in the crook of your neck and his legs tangled in yours.

What mutations get copied by Monoma?

I think only strictly necessary mutations get copied, and not the vestigial ones; but now, what do we count as a strictly necessary mutation? We can identify two kinds of those:

1)Quirk Factor.

It's the mutation that allows the quirk to be there. If we take Tsuburaba or Fukidashi, we can adsume that their quirk factor is a mutation in their throats, so Monoma's would change upon copying [Solid Air] or [Comic]. The same can be said for Bakugo's quirk: whenever [Explosion] gets copied, Monoma's sweat glands change so that they can produce the same substance as Bakugo's.

2)Support Mutation.

I imagine [Big Fist] would put a lot of strain on Kendo's arms and upper body, if she didn't have any support for it, but I think that she's has genetically strong arms. This means that Monoma's arms get a bit buffer when he copies [Big Fist], because otherwise, he wouldn't be able to support the quirk.

I have already mentioned [Explosion]; in addition to the sweat glands, I think the skin on Monoma's palms would grow thicker and rougher, like how I think Bakugo's is. Thicker skin on the palms means that the skin won't break (or burn) as easily under the pressure (and heat) of the blasts.

Another kind of Support Mutation, could be resistance to the quirk, such as Todoroki's. Upon copying [Half-Hot Half-Cold], Monoma would be fire resistant on a side, and cold resistant on the other, just like Todoroki most likely is.

What mutations don't get copied? Vestigial ones. When copying [Dupli-Arms], Monoma won't spontaneusly grow four more arms, like Shoji, but the quirk will be effective on the two arms he already has.

Another very interesting thing to get into, are Mutation quirks themselves.

I've seen a lot of people headcanon that he can't copy those, but the other day I checked, and the Wiki doesn't mention anything of the kind; so, I think the rules I've already estabilished should apply here as well.

He would get no changes to his appearence, if not strictly needed, but parts of his body would change to accomodate the quirk.

He'd be able to do what she does: he's have enhanced swimming abilities and hopping, his tongue would get longer and stronger, he'd be able to stick to walls, eject his stomach, camouflage himself, and secrete the itchy/scent masking/paralyzing mucus; but wouldn't get a frog physioligy.

In the same way, when copying [Spotted Seal], he'd have better swimming abilities, he'd be able to deep dive, utilize echolocation, hold his breath longer, and he'd get the strength boost, but he wouldn't sport any unnecessary visible mutations.

However if you check the wiki, you might come at me and say that it's estabilished that 'his body also limits him', and this could go against my 'Support Mutations' argument.

Luckily for everyone here, I am stubborn, so I have found a way to have things be coherent.

We can read that line by saying that,

1)It refers to stockpiles.

2)It refers to ultimate moves.

This last point means that while he'd copy the state of control the user has over their quirk, but wouldn't be able to do very specific tricks.

Example! Let's take, once again, [Explosion].

Since Bakugo has complete control over the size and intensity of his explosions, Monoma would too; but he wouldn't be able to do his AP shots!

(This doesn't mean that he can't look up a clip of Bakugo performing them, on the internet, getting an idea of the theory behind the shots, lol) (I think this is reasonable, because while we know hkw crafty and resourceful he is, it doesn't make him quite too OP)

Snipe vs Shoji and Hagakure’s gotta be one of the most boring and uninspired and the anime shows this perfectly. Yes, it’s supposed to improve both of the students’ tracking and stealth abilities but the way they do it is so dull and how is Snipe supposed to beat or restrain the two without putting a bullet in a child, that’s just bad press for the school. Hound Dog would’ve been a far better pick since that would make the battle between trackers. What hero would you like to see fight against?

As an aside, I can kind of get where you are coming from with that last comment. Snipe has a gun and guns are dangerous, but considering his Quirk lets him have pitch perfect aim, he's arguably one of the safer teachers to fight. Or would rather go up against Thirteen?

Shoji and Hagakure suffer from being the odd ones out in the Exam. To me, part of the exams is setting students up in the worst situation possible to force them to overcome their personal obstacles. With Shoji and Hagakure, they aren't developed enough to make a character-based challenge, nor are they similar enough in skill set to make a worthwhile matchup. The other matchups make too much sense, so now you're stuck with them together. Snipe does kind of work for Shoji, with his amazing range and aim being too oppressive for Shoji to move around or peak out. However, it's the opposite with Hagakure. Her invisibility makes a perfect counter to Snipe since his Quirk entirely relies on line of sight. You'd have to be as dumb as Denki to not take advantage of it. And while I think that Hound Dog makes some sense, it has the reverse problem. He could easily track down Hagakure thanks to his sense of smell, making him the perfect challenge for her, but how does he challenge Shoji? There isn't anything about his skill set that works against Shoji, and he doesn't seem like enough of a physical powerhouse to challenge him. What, is Hound going to use his school consoler abilities to bring up Shoji's trauma?

However, I think the best opponent for them would be Vlad King. While a part of me is advocating for this so we can see what Vlad King is capable of, I do believe he'd challenge the two students. With his control over his own blood, he could easily counteract Hagakure's invisibility by getting even a drop of it on her. And while Shoji could try to fight him directly, it'd be a losing battle. With Vlad King's immense control over his own blood, he could tear into Shoji's slower and more fragile appendages, either cutting off the duplicates or hardening his blood at the source to keep Shoji from using his ability. While it could be a stretch, I think the challenge here would force Shoji and Hagakure to be active participants in a fight. With these two, they're usually the ones in the background, either doing nothing or playing support. To beat Vlad King, they'd need to bring the fight to him and be as aggressive as possible, forcing Vlad King to bleed out enough to either subdue him or make it to the gate. And if you wanted some extra spice, you could easily have the two's contrasting personalities play a role, with the more quiet, reserved Shoji clashing with the more loud, extroverted Hagakure over how to handle the fight.

He drops something in your hand and moves on, parting from the crowd and stepping on the bus. Looking down you find a well-worn pick with the initials M.O. scribbled in silver pen.

Toshinori Yagi is a Heteromorph, but Quirkless

Nerd rant of the day! I’ve seen many different takes on All Might’s muscle form, arguing about whether it’s a part of One for All, is just a visual gag, or it’s a separate quirk entirely, that’s purely cosmetic in Toshinori’s case. I’ve had this theory for a while, but after seeing some videos on TikTok disagreeing over his secondary form, I’ve decided to publish this headcanon. I also have proof for this idea, so hold, please.

Firstly, I want to address the idea that All Might’s secondary form is just a visual gag, and not an actual thing that happens within the canon in the series. I can see why this would be an accepted headcanon, as it’s hard to explain this ability of All Might’s, when it has little to no explanation within the series. The often comedic times in which All Might changes also lend themselves to this idea, and make it hard to take his transformation seriously. However, there are instances where attention is called specifically to the transformation All Might partakes in. Well, and the gush of blood from his mouth every single time he reverts to his smaller form prove that there’s definitely a physical change going on.

With the idea that the transformation is a canon thing he does in mind, I want to address the idea that All Might only recently started doing this transition, since his injury. Boku no Hero Vigilantes disproves this as we see a young All Might do the signature transformation. (However, I’m not sure of the canonicity of ‘Might Ears’ so perhaps this can be taken with a grain of salt.)

So what is this transformation? Izuku doesn’t do it so it’s not a part of One for All. Here’s where my theory comes into play.

We see several heteromorph characters, even within Izuku’s class. Shoji, Tokoyami, and Koda are the ones I am going to specifically refer to. There are other hetemorphs, like Ojiro and Hagakure, but in their case, their different anatomy is their quirk. To some extent, so is Shoji’s and Koda’s. However, Shoji’s unusual facial proportions aren’t connected to his quirk “dupli-arms”, and while Koda’s ears seem to play some factor in his “ani-speak” ability, from a scene later in the manga. (I won’t add it just in case for spoilers?) but his overall shape doesn’t seem to affect his ability much. And of course, Tokoyami’s ability is Dark Shadow, which really doesn’t explain why his head is shaped like a bird’s.

As such, my guess is there is some kind of classification system in place in the MHA society that places heteromorphism as a quirk or not, most likely due to usefulness. Hawk’s wings allow him to fly, while Tokoyami’s head doesn’t seem to give him an advantage in any way.

Having said all that, I think All Might’s transformation, as well as his eyes, place him as a heteromorph. The eyes I’ll explain a different day, so as not to clutter this post too much. Flexing muscles does make them stronger, but in Toshinori’s case it may be that the transformation doesn’t add any extra strength outside of that, and so he’s considered quirkless. It’s only with One for All that he gets that super-strength. But his different biology may be part of why he was able to accept OfA without the same difficulties Izuku experienced, because it’s never mentioned that All Might has the same toe thing Izuku does. (You’d think if he did, his tailor (and David Shield!!!) would have noticed (which of course could just be the author forgetting but for now I’ll use it as support)) which adds even more to the idea that he’s a heteromorph, just not classified as having a quirk.

Hm with being able to copy seros tape it may be that like. the size/amount of changes necessary for a mutation may be the deciding factor whether or not monoma would use a mutation quirk. because stuff like sero's tape or iida's engines are localized to one part of the body while keeping everything else the same, meanwhile dupli-arms or frog would need to change up major parts of, if not his whole body. although to be fair it may just not be used in canon so that monoma stays recognisable bc when he was using erasure his panels were labeled with "this is monoma" bc people had a hard time recognising him with his hair floating up.

That's possible. It's also possible that Monoma has personal reasons to avoid Mutations--maybe it's uncomfortable, or even painful for him.
