A Closer Look At Hebrew Midwives Story Will Impact Your Present Job!
Duke Jeyaraj The Biblical record of the Hebrew Midwives is not a familiar passage and so is reproduced in full, before a crucial life lesson for working professionals is drawn from it: Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill…

KINDNESS AND US
Dr. Duke Jeyaraj KINDNESS AND USRev. Dr. Duke Jeyaraj 13th November is World Kindness Day. It is a good time to summarize what the Bible teaches on Kindness. KINDNESS AND THE UNBELIEVER The Lord Jesus is extremely kind to everyone of us. That is why instead of straight-away frying us in hell, he came flying to save us from going to a living hell and a literal hell (Titus 3:4-5). But in…

MARTIN LUTHER’S SHOCKING ANTI-JEWISH FEELINGS DOES NOT HAVE BIBLICAL SUPPORT – LET US NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANY RACE, CASTE, PERSON OF ANY NATION, ANY COMPLEXION….
Duke Jeyaraj (article written in 28 Oct 2017 via Facebook). Martin Luther! Yes there are several things we love about him. His courage. His defiant spirit, his missionary spirit to get the Bible in common people’s language etc. But there are things about Luther, which any Bible-believer should rightly loathe. This short devotion will talk about that. Luther wanted the political leaders of…

Rev. Dr. Duke Jeyaraj | New Year Bible Devotion Jesus used the word Year” twice during his earthly ministry. Jesus used the word ‘year’ twice during his earthly ministry. Duke Jeyaraj, examines those two occasions and brings out a practical message. God as a Father Is Very Different From The Kind of Father We Envision Him To Be, Influeced By Hyper-Grace Cultists!
God as a Father Is Very Different From The Kind of Father We Envision Him To Be, Influeced By Hyper-Grace Cultists!
Duke Jeyaraj In a month when we celebrate Father’s Day (it falls on June 20th, this year), it will be appropriate to study the character of God as a Father so that we fathers can copy him. The Old Testament repeatedly presents God as the Father (though some wrongly believe God is a consuming fire in the Old Testament but a loving Father in the New Testament, influenced by hyper-grace false…

Take the Vaccine and You Take the Mark of the Beast?
Take the Vaccine and You Take the Mark of the Beast?
Rev. Dr. Duke Jeyaraj answers You take the vaccine and you take the mark of the beast, the anti-christ? Is this true? Duke Jeyaraj examines this question in this article. Three Scriptures connect receiving the mark of the Beast which the book of Revelation talks about with receiving something you receive on your forehead and hands (Rev. 14:9; Rev. 13:11,16,17; Rev. 20:4). Since, the corona…

Emotional Affairs Are Affairs Too
Emotional Affairs Are Affairs Too
Duke Jeyaraj I found myself agreeing with this Deccan Chronicle article (April 20, 2021). Yes, non-sexual affair is cheating too. Oh for husbands who would understand the emotional needs of wives the way Elkanah understood that need of his wife Hannah! Hear his romance-laced conversation with his wife: “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do not eat? Am I not more to you than ten sons?” (1 Sam. 1:8…

DUKE JEYARAJ WHAT'S ON YOUR LAP, DADDIES, MOST OF THE TIME - YOUR KIDS OR YOUR GADGETS?
DUKE JEYARAJ WHAT’S ON YOUR LAP, DADDIES, MOST OF THE TIME – YOUR KIDS OR YOUR GADGETS?
Duke Jeyaraj / Father’s Day Devotion
During the days I was in the Call centre industry as a tent-making preacher (no longer now since Nov. 2008, am a fulltime evangelist now), I used to stay back in the office for some time in the early morning after I logged out. I would read the Bible online in the net-connected computer systems. And I would also write articles for our ministry’s magazine,…

Why The Indian Womens Cricket Team Lost In The World Cup Final 2017 - A Duke Jeyaraj analysis with spiritual lessons
Indian Women were only two hits away from winning their first One Day Internation(ODI) World Cup! But alas they lost by 9 runs narrowly to England at Lords, London on the 23 July 2017. They deserve our appreciation for getting thus far. They had New Zealand for breakfast, Australia for lunch but the hunter turned into the hunted when it came to dinner! Shall we learn lessons for our spiritual life from this gripping game of cricket? I wrap Bible lessons around four reasons for India’s defeat in this nerve-wracking final:
1. BLOWING IT UP AT THE END AFTER A BURNING START!
When India needed 29 off 33, the gates were wide open for a possible Indian victory, and that’s when English bowler Shrubsole stormed through, yorking Jhulan Goswami (who has even scored even a ODI fifty) two balls later to tilt the match decisively England's way (ESPNCricinfo). The same Jhulan claimed three wickets for 23 runs in her 10 overs and helped India put the brakes on England when they batted first. England only could make 229 in their allotted fifteen overs. Jhulan who is vastly experienced (having played over 160 ODIs for India) could have easily stitched a sensible partnership with 19-year Deepti Sharma (who has the highest score of 188 in ODIs) and taken India to victory.
As believers do we only pray and never act? Learn from Hannah of I Samuel 1! She not only prayed for a baby but did what she had to do to receive a baby – have sexual relationships with her husband! As believers do we only want periods of prosperity in our life? Learn from Apostle Paul as he writes elaborately about his trails in 2 Cor. 11:16-33. Understand from Hebrews 11 that glamor and gloom can be from same faith in God (Resurrections from the Dead and knocks on the Head BOTH came from the SAME faith at various times – Heb. 11:35). Let us embrace both our ‘batting’ and ‘bowling’ responsibilities together as believers!!! Jesus said, “He who endures till the end will be saved!” (Matt. 24:13). So let us not blow it up at the end after a burning start!
2. PROMOTION FOR A NON-PERFORMER!
“Then, after Shrubsole's slower offcutter sent back Raut for 86, India promoted Sushma Verma - a wicketkeeper-batsman with an average of 6.40 after 13 innings - ahead of Deepti Sharma, who has seven fifties and a 188 in ODIs” (ESPNCricinfo). Verma scored a duck and India lost their way in their chase of 229 to win their first ever World Cup, even further, versus England in the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground before the largest ever crowd that has ever gathered to watch a women’s cricket game!
Some churches and ministries promote rank new-comers to high-positions keeping in mind their wealth, position in the corporate world, etc. even though the concerned are new believers, and in some cases non-believers. This is wrong. Apostle Paul writes, “An elder must not be a new believer, because he might become proud…” (I Tim. 3:6).
3. THE SLOWING DOWN INSTEAD OF SPRINTING!
“It was an iffy single but Mithali Raj, running from the non-striker's end after Raut played the ball to the right of midwicket, perhaps judged it calamitous when it was merely risky. Giving up prematurely, she slowed down and ended up yards out when a sprint and dive could have saved her” (ESPNCricinfo).
In our spiritual lives, there are times when we slow down instead of sprinting. Do we hesitate to share the Gospel with our co-passengers despite them asking questions like, “What book are you reading – is it the Bible?” Are we like Mrs. Lot who wanted to have ‘one last look at sin’ thinking that she had lots of time to scoot from sinful city of Sodom? But Mrs. Lot did not realize she did not have lots of time to repent. She turned into a pillar of salt as God’s judgement came upon her that very second.
4. THE BLIND DASH INSTEAD OF BACKING THEMSELVES
When Deepti Sharma and Shikha Pandey were batting India needed 11 runs off 16 balls to win the Final. That’s when Shikha hit the ball on the offside straight to an English fielder and darted for a non-existent single! She was sent back by Deepti. But by the time, Shikha returned back to the safely of her crease, the English Wicketkeeper whipped the bails. If only Shikha had stayed in the safety of her crease and backed herself to score 11 runs off 15 balls (very much doable)! India further tumbled closer to a defeat.
There are folks who fish out non-existent doctrines in the Bible like hyper-grace (grace as a license to sin) and universalism (all will be saved ultimately) and show great speed in propagating it. They are heading towards destruction (hell) and taking a host of people with them to same destruction (hell). We would do well to stay within the ‘crease’ of the Bible and make the Bible the final court of appeal for all matters of belief and behavior!
