Dubblestandart - Immigration Dub - dub/rock from Vienna
Transmitting from the heart of Europe, Vienna’s Dubblestandart represent 21st century bass music.Their influences range from late 60s Psychedelic Music, Space Age Electronix,Alternative Rock, filtered into Hi-NRG Dub Reggae.
They started 1988 in a 2nd district basement, they called The Controller Station in Vienna, located just around the block of the famous Flex, where legendary Dub Club took place, at a time when Rave Culture, early Jungle, Techno or Downbeat musically ended the cold war decade, igniting new economies and its youth aspirations. Since then 16 Albums, many 7” & 12” , as well as countless compilations featuring their music, have been released. Since 2002 they are signed to the German Dub Label Echo Beach/Collision Records.

R.I.P. Lee "Scratch" Perry
Reggae and dub pioneer Lee "Scratch" Perry died August 29th in Jamaica at age 85. Perry started his career as an apprentice to reggae producer Clement Coxsone Dodd. After a time of working with Amalagated Records he formed his Upsetter Records in 1968. He started his career as a solo artist with his inaugural single "People Funny Boy" being released under the name Lee Perry. A series of songs followed and were released on various labels he controlled and there was time spent working with his studio band The Upsetters. In 1970, he produced and released his first production for The Wailers, "Mr. Brown." His famous Black Ark studio was constructed in 1973 and legendary sessions for Bob Marley, The Heptones, The Congos, Junior Murvin and Max Romeo took place. This was also the year he would collaborate with fellow dub designer King Tubby on the Upsetters 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle album which many consider to be the first dub album. Augustus Pablo, who became known for adding melodica to dub, is also on the album's personnel.
Perry's productions took reverb and echo to make rippling rhythms that reflected a disjointed diaspora yet united the various geographies in sound. Samples of American soul made itself into dub alongside the distinct reggae beat he helped to popularize with his first recordings. He saw the studio itself as an instrument to be manipulated and used as his own artificial intelligence hybrid. Perry claimed to have burned The Black Ark down himself at the beginning of the '80s. But he also had a creative resurgence and started working with producer The Mad Professor and others.
His fame continued to grow in the '90s and he had a high-profile appearance on the Beastie Boys' Hello Nasty album. The 2003 Grammy for Best Reggae Album award went to Perry for his 2002 Jamaican E.T. album. Perry collaborated with producers Bill Laswell and Adrian Sherwood for the Rise Again and The Mighty Upsetter projects during the 2000s. He would later venture into the dubstep genre with the group Dubblestandart and the Subatomic Sound System. Music was his life's work but he also became a visual artist and had his first exhibition at Dem Passwords Gallery in Los Angeles in 2010.
Perry stayed busy with music until the end of his life. He co-produced The Orb's 2012 The Observer In The Star House album and still went on tours. He participated in the first two Dub Champions Festivals in New York City in 2011 and 2012 and Coachella in 2013. Three documentaries were released about him; The Upsetter (2011), Lee Scratch Perry's Vision Of Paradise (2015) and The Revelation Of Lee "Scratch" Perry (2019). He released 77 albums and four this year including Dubz Of The Root, Friends, No Bloody Friends and To Conquer The Evil Duppies. There was a re-release and remaster of Roast Fish, Collie Weed and Cornbread for Record Store Day 2021.
Lee "Scratch" Perry's dub and reggae creations have seeped into punk, dance music and hip-hop. Several artists paid tribute to him on Twitter and acknowledged the way he forever changed music.

Today we remember the passing of Ari Up who Died: October 20, 2010 in Los Angeles, California
Ariane Daniela Forster, known by her stage name Ari Up, was a German vocalist best known as a member of the English post-punk band The Slits. Ari was born in Munich, West Germany. Both her parents were involved in the music industry: Her father, Frank Forster, was a German schlager singer who had some success in the 50s and 60s while her mother Nora was a friend of Jimi Hendrix and dated Chris Spedding for three years. Ari's maternal grandfather was the wealthy German newspaper proprietor Franz Karl Maier, owner of Der Tagesspiegel. Her godfathers were Austrian singer/composer Udo Jürgens and Jon Anderson, the singer of the group Yes.
Nora Forster later married the Sex Pistols' lead singer, John Lydon, in 1979. Their home was known to be something of a punk domain, where Nora would take in poor musicians. The constant presence of punk music led to Ari experimenting with it herself, learning to play the guitar from The Clash's Joe Strummer.
In 1976, at the age of 14, Up formed The Slits with drummer Palmolive. Within a short time, guitarist Viv Albertine joined the group and found herself deeply impressed by the young singer. "English was her second language," Albertine noted in an interview. "It was not easy for her and she had to fight to be taken seriously." She succeeded: "Ari was the most dynamic woman I have ever known," said Albertine. "The way she carried herself was a revolution."
By the late 1970s, The Slits were touring as the opening act for The Clash. Ari Up's love of reggae led The Slits into a "jungly" dub style. She was the most flamboyant member of the group, becoming known for her wild hair and odd stage outfits. She can be seen briefly in film Rude Boy, associating with the Clash backstage. Her 1977 performances with The Slits are featured in The Punk Rock Movie, a documentary release of various punk group club performances, principally at The Roxy.
After The Slits disbanded in 1981, Up moved with her boyfriend, Glenmore "Junior" Williams, and twin sons, Pablo and Pedro, to jungle regions of Indonesia and Belize and lived among indigenous people in those areas. Later, they moved to Jamaica, eventually settling in Kingston. She continued to make music, first with the New Age Steppers, then as a solo artist, using the stage names Baby Ari, Madussa, and Ari Up. Her son Wilton was born in 1994, though tragically, the boy's father had been shot dead by the time he was born. In 2000, John Lydon and Nora Forster became legal guardians of Up's twin boys.
Up's first full-length solo album, Dread More Dan Dead, was released in 2005. She appeared on Lee "Scratch" Perry's Repentance (2008), and performed a duet on a cover version of Mike Hugg's song "Mister, You're a Better Man Than I" on Mark Stewart's Edit.
In 2008, Ari Up was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, she refused the physician-recommended chemotherapy. Lydon later commented, "who refuses chemo because they don’t want their Rasta locks cut off? Ariane Forster was just…not sensible. She thought she could cure herself with witch doctors. We spent hundreds of thousands trying to save her, but it was too late." Despite the diagnosis, she performed in July 2009, with Perry and Austrian dub band Dubblestandart in Brooklyn, New York, just before the Central Park SummerStage festival. One of her last recordings took place in May 2010, in New York with Perry. The sessions were recorded by the Subatomic Sound System and released in August 2010 on 7" vinyl, titled "Hello, Hell is Very Low" b/w "Bed Athletes." The Slits' final work, the video for the song "Lazy Slam" from Trapped Animal, was released posthumously in accordance with Ari's wishes.
On 20 October 2010, Ari Up died in Los Angeles, aged 48 after battling breast cancer. Her death was initially announced on Lydon's homepage. At this time, Lydon and Nora Forster also became guardians of Up's third child, Wilton.
A tribute Punky Reggae Birthday Party was held at the Music Hall of Williamsburg by Dunia Best, Aram Sinnreich, and Vivien Goldman on Brooklyn on 16 January 2011. Neneh Cherry, Tessa Pollitt, Hollie Cook and other former members of The Slits performed, along with members of the True Warriors, New Age Steppers, and other friends and associates.

Today considered as “Classic Reggae”, so much remains unchallenged, this little island called Jamaica has provided in content & creation, especially Roots Reggae of the late 60s,70s & 80s. Not to speak of the political actuality of many songs, who respond to today’s world of unrest as if they were written yesterday, coming straight from the heart of all those originators we admire and love so much! #UbuntuFM #Radio http://bit.ly/31MluWq
