I've been cooking a headcanon that the patapon's use of musical commands and rhythm culture comes from their ancestors, which used basic note-based commands to organize hunts and confuse enemies enough to take victories... Over time, while it retained its use in battle, it became more of an artform they use to express themselves than purely survival.
I got it from hearing how straightforward some papo 1 fever modes can sound compared to papo 2+3, which go nutsss

snowblood is outright the metalcore song of all time I don't know what it is about that song specifically but it has everything
#only thing i want from it is a bass playthrough lol#the guitar playthrough lives rent free in my head and on my phone but i need the bass and also the drums ones#but yeah. the intro starting out ominous then the rest of the instruments coming in then the verse riff of all time#and jt starting the verse with 'blood starved machine in a feeding frenzy' then jesse with the clean chorus#then finishing the chrous and going back to playing the verse riff effortlessly live (its a hard riff he said it is himself)#and the tremolo riff and mini breakdown before second chorus which leads straight into a classic jesse cash guitar solo#then the bridge/buildup part with the buried distant cleans then the 'sleepless nights hearing voices... the dead are not dreaming-#-can't you hear them screaming?' and breakdown! then breakdown intensifies! the energy on stage is at its peak! and it ends. just like that.#but like. the screaming? brutal. the cleans? on point. the guitars? impossible as always. the bass? felt deep in the bones.#the drums? written better and better. the lyrics? metal as fuck. the ambience? suitably ominous. the band as a whole? immaculate.#its not even their best song or my favourite but it is metalcore song of all time and erra song of the moment#erra#metalcore#i am incredibly normal about their music as you can probably tell (i want jesse cash to teach me guitar)

i think while varis's main instrument is the violin, his go to instrument for downtime is the lyre
#talking abt my baldies gate character btw hfkfjdjf i think this is the first time ive mentioned his name on here#but yeah like the violin is HIS instrument but its like Serious for him hes dedicated his life to it#and i dont wanna get into the whole history but lets just say he did a lot to learn under a master and have opportunities#to play for audiences so that in addition to the fact he loves it makes him take it very seriously#so if he wants to just hang out i think hed play the lyre. and whatever i think is the truth i guess since im his creator right LMAO#just based on events and checks that happened during my playthrough i think even tho bc of the rules of the game#he can play all the available instruments his order of proficiency is violin > lyre > lute > flute > drum#wahhhh i have so many drawing ideas but im already drawing something and as always every piece takes me forever#also i was having a bit of a crisis earlier bc yknow varis is a word in finnish and i only now remembered that#names and nouns have different rules for conjugation even if theyre the same word#but then i was like did i fucking make that up bc would you rlly not just say säteen for säde for example#but then is that different bc of the d omg i just dont know
