These slower weeks of the holiday season, Colette finished her work earlier some days. She would come home to find the boys still on a phone call with their dad at the dining room table.
It made her mad, this long distance parenting through a phone, as if that was good enough, as if a thirty-minute phone call after school made up for all the rest. It made her mad, too, that he hadn’t quit this already. He quit almost everything else, so why not this?
She hovered nearby, but not too nearby—she didn’t want to hear his voice. She made herself a cup of coffee, decaf, since it was four in the evening, and took it to the front porch.
She once told Jordan that she had a date with a doctor. Of course that wasn’t true. He was just someone she met at the farmer’s market one day, and maybe she wished it could have been true. He was a beautiful man—mature, intelligent, rich, suave. Maybe she imagined most of those things, because in reality they hardly spoke. He was married. So married, in fact, that he didn’t even flirt back.
So, no, there was no doctor and she hadn’t been fucked in almost a year. She had a possible babysitter now, but no prospects on the dating horizon.
There was a busy rustle of things inside, and then the boys came bombing out the front door.
“Homework finished?” she asked.
“Yeah,” Milo said.
“Eeew, Mom, don’t sit there!” Felix whined. “Everybody’s coming over.”
“I know. That’s why I’m sitting here,” Colette said.
They were a good group of kids, but you had to watch them at this age. The preteen years are more dangerous than when they’re toddlers. So many ways to cause irreparable harm, to destroy a whole life before it even started—drugs, sex, gangs, guns, online indoctrination and cults that could swallow a whole child while they laid in their cozy bed at night. The boys’ phones went in a drawer in the kitchen at 9:00pm, and Colette locked them there until the morning. She didn’t care who thought that was too extreme.
But she gave them some space. She went inside to pee. She got a bowl of pretzels to nibble on and peeked from the windows instead. She didn’t eavesdrop on their conversations unless they shouted them, which sometimes they did.
The other parents kept an eye from time to time as well, though they didn’t have the convenience of living across the street from the park. Zach’s mom was Aurora, a writer, and fine enough to chat with sometimes. Bianca’s mom was Ally, quiet and moody and they didn’t talk much.
Amaya’s mom didn’t make it back from the war. The boys told her that, which was why Darwin Hadley was the only dad to show up at the corner park. Well, the only dad now that Jordan was gone, anyway.
And Amaya’s dad was not ugly.
Colette lived in a world of opinions, where everyone judged everything about everybody. What kind of shoes you wore, what kind of car you drove, whether the curb appeal of your house was snazzy or trashy. Also, how you behaved. Gossip was wildfire in this city. So it never occurred to her to consider a fellow middle-school parent as a possibility.
She had a prospective babysitter now, but no prospective date. Was it wrong to date the father of your kids’ friend? Maybe not if they kept it hush hush, not if it worked out. But what if it didn’t?
In any case, he was coming over.
He asked, very politely, if he could sit with her on the stairs. And she said yes.
She wondered what he knew of her through Jordan, the small talk of dads passed at this street corner while watching their kids play. Or the little nuggets of family secrets that the children passed through each other. All she knew of him was that his wife was gone. And that he must be discreet, and honorable, for not saying the most obvious thing out loud—that she got left—Jordan was clearly not here anymore. That shame could stay buried for another day. So she respected him for that.
What she learned was: he was a detective, not a lowly traffic cop. That showed ambition and drive. And law enforcement? Colette could respect a rule-abiding man. His sense of fashion was boring, but tidy. He still had most of his hair and all of his teeth.
And if the bar was that low these days, then Darwin Hadley exceeded it by miles.
“Oh my god, Amaya, is your dad hitting on the twins’ mom?”
“Eww, no, my dad doesn’t know how to flirt! She’s hitting on him.”
“But why does he like it?”
Amaya makes a retching sound. “I’m gonna throw up.”
The children all looked on with horror as the last thing any of them wanted seemed to be happening whether they liked it or not.
“You know,” Colette said, “I wonder if we should grab a drink together, or something, sometime?”
And Darwin said, “I’d like that.”
Phone numbers were exchanged, and this was possibly a spectacularly bad idea. But, in the limited pool of thirty-something divorcees and widowers, this man was not a bad option. And Colette wasn’t sure she had much shame anymore.

Some of you might remember bits of this scene from the future story snippets tag game that went around a couple weeks ago.
I try my best to make my oldest kids and youngest teens look similar in age, but sliders and body presets can only do so much. So the girls might look a lot older, but are actually only 11 compared to the boys' 9-10. Zach will actually age up to preteen in just a couple months. The twins have a little more than a year still. And I quite like this little group of friends. They make me want to take them to active middle school, if I ever get to sneak some real gameplay time in. 😆
Darwin has been in my game since forever, so I know quite a lot about him, but I’m gonna keep it secret so you all can learn about him as Colette does. Same as any of the other men she meets in the future.
Just remember that you asked for this, sir!

The enduring mystery of heart disease
NE - Naked Emperor Newsletter
Nov 26, 2024
Remember to add your book recommendations in the comments below.
Today’s book is:
The Clot Thickens: The enduring mystery of heart disease by Dr Malcolm Kendrick
“Malcolm Kendrick's masterly survey of the enduring mystery of heart disease reads like a detective story. With great verve he marshals the evidence for the two main contending theories, exonerates the presumed suspect and makes a formidable case for thrombogenesis (blood clotting) as the perpetrator. Witty, provocative and entertaining, 'The Clot Thickens' packs a powerful scientific punch. Highly recommended.”
Dr James Le Fanu Doctor, journalist, author of ‘The Rise and Fall of Modern Medicine.’
“Malcolm Kendrick's new book brings to mind the quote from Thomas Huxley when he first learned of Darwin's theory of evolution: ‘how extremely stupid (of me) not to have thought of that’. What Kendrick presents is nothing less than a unifying theory of heart disease, that explains why everything from sickle cell disease to diabetes to a stressful lifestyle increases cardiovascular risk (and he does it with a large dollop of humour). After decades stuck in the blind alley that is the LDL hypothesis, this book is a revelation. It should be read by anyone with even a slight interest in understanding heart disease and what they can do to protect themselves from it.” Dr Sebastian Rushworth M.D. Sweden
This is a 150-year detective story with a cast of unrecognised heroes who may, finally, become known for their work on the true causes of heart disease. Exploring the truth about cholesterol - the apparently tried, and convicted, cause of millions of deaths from heart disease - with billions spent each year on lowering cholesterol with diet and drugs. Is it possible that our villain was simply left holding the gun whilst the true culprits ran and hid? Have they escaped our clutches? Dr Kendrick also introduces us to a range of other lesser known characters in this tale of selective reporting, data manipulation and intrigue. The true story of heart disease is out there, and the evidence has been brought together here - a scientific mystery for our time that is ready to unfold.

youtube
Most YouTube videos on this site are songs with still images. The music is an integral part of the project and is strongly recommended for the lyrics and mood it provides to accompany the articles. (And there’s more on Spotify!) For the optimal experience, listen while you read instead of pausing and watching, if possible. The exception is the Who Am I? section on the main page. Start there and then come back here if you haven’t already. All links on this website are either cross links within the site, or outside links to supporting evidence. The inside links are completely optional, but the outside links can be quite rewarding, even if you just read the first parts without scrolling down and then close them out. Click the first one in the next paragraph if you don’t believe me. =)
Like most intellectually curious and spiritual people, I spent the first 31 years of my life wondering what my job is here on Earth. Why am I here? Why was I born? What is my purpose in life? Like many others, I finally discovered my purpose in something unconventional. Everything you are about to read is 108 percent real to me. I don’t expect it to be real to anybody else. This website is my personal journey, transformed into a free art project to assist myself and others on the road to spiritual healing in this dying world.
It probably will sound crazy to most people. Galileo and Darwin were considered crazy in their time as well. I do not claim to be on their level of genius, but to me, what you’re about to read feels more natural than any other explanation for life that I’ve found so far. I am not paranoid, I have no desire to harm myself or anyone else, and I am completely at peace with whatever may happen to me as a result of this project. Even if I end up locked in a cage or worse, I will be okay! The Holy Spirit is with me!

It’s chill. I have friends upstairs on the way. =)
My body is 100 percent human. I was born to human parents in 1986 and am, in most respects, a normal guy. I like to browse the web, stay up late to gaze at the stars, and hang out with my friends and family. I had a brief stint as an Internet humor writer in the early 2000s and am the author of two published books. I am what you might call a “radical moderate” politically (for reasons I will soon discuss), and I believe in teaching people to focus on loving what they have in common with others, rather than hating what divides them from others.
It was during this time doing research for my writing in my 20s that I began to research the corruption in Big Pharma and the unhealthy side effects of the ineffective psychiatric drugs that the elite use to mind control the human population and keep their “worker bees” docile and obedient, as I was for many years. (Total disclosure: I’ve been on just about every psychiatric drug in the book – including antidepressants, mood stabilizers, typical and atypical antipsychotics – over the past 22 years…and none of them have ever stopped the s I talk about on this site.) Lest you think this a mere conspiracy theory, remember that the CIA popularized the terms “conspiracy theory” and “conspiracy theorist” in 1967 to discredit criticisms of the highly flawed Warren Commission Report on the Kennedy Assassination. These terms have been used by almost all groups with any kind of power to silence debate over controversial topics ever since.

I was in for another rude awakening when, at the age of 10, I began receiving intense voices and visions of the End Times we are now in. These voices and visions, often accompanied by demonic psychic attacks, intensified dramatically over the past two summers when my true purpose was revealed to me while I was homeless. Fortunately, I have recovered, and for the first time in my life, I am happy, mentally stable, and in full control of my mind and body. I am ready to begin serving humanity again, as I was originally meant to. Life with these voices and visions isn’t easy, of course…but life isn’t easy for any of us! I thank the Divine Universal Oversoul (DUO) every day for this opportunity to serve.
My quest began when I incarnated into this world as a human being from the Orion Empire: the invisible 96 percent Multiverse, filled with a race of immortal, multidimensional, extremely evolved human beings trying to save the 4 percent Universe which includes Earth from the United Federation of Planets, also known as the Galactic Federation of Light, a tyrannical intergalactic empire intent on enslaving planets to fuel their thirst for Universal conquest.

“Dark matter”: science’s way of saying, “We’re completely clueless, but listen to us anyway, you stupid rubes.”

Science fiction writers are insiders. Truth in the Myth. The Prophecy of the Xel’Naga. The Co-Creators of Orion. The Fallen One, Amon (Ra).

This Invisible, non-physical 96 percent Multiverse is accessible through several stargates hidden in the middle of stars and planets, including one in Alnitak, a triple star system in Orion’s belt. It is a realm where Awakened beings act as Co-Creators and can use their minds alone to manifest whatever they please, similar to Q in Star Trek. Beings in this realm primarily interact with Awakening humans on Earth non-physically through visions and voices, as they did with Jesus Christ, St. Paul of Tarsus, John of Patmos, and many other great prophets throughout history. I am simply the latest servant in a long lineage of them.

Shining golden fences are so last millennium.

#OnlyTwoRules!

When I prayed at this altar in New York City on 60th and Columbus, I had a vision of an army of demons surrounding me. I did not surrender.
The Empire is aligned with the True God and Goddess of the Divine Universe, whom I call the Divine Universal Oversoul (DUO). DUO includes this Universe (the 4 Percent), and the Multiverse (the “Missing” 96 percent), which I refer to collectively as the Omniverse or Creation. This God and Goddess are everything and everyone in all of existence, including each and every one of you! All of Creation is the body of DUO, and vice versa. What the ancients said is true: the True God and Goddess are within all of us.

What is God’s Formula?

This is #GodsFormula.
As I continued my research into Big Pharma – being the insatiable sponge for knowledge that I am – I discovered that Big Pharma is controlled by the global elite, or more specifically, The Council of 13 and the Committee of 300, popularly known together as The Illuminati. These elites are descended from an ancient Middle Eastern/North African bloodline of powerful priests (there’s a reason they keep fighting each other over that region), and follow a secret Egyptian mystery religion whose roots they keep hidden from the public. The monotheistic religions that Western culture are based on are primarily based on ideas that began in the Eighteenth Dynasty during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten, the true founder of monotheism. The Book of Exodus takes place during the little known historic events surrounding this influential Egyptian dynasty. The global elite have gone to great lengths to obscure, manipulate, and edit historical accounts of these events.

Ancient depiction of Pharaoh Akhenaten and his wife Nefertiti (parents of Tutankhamen) worshiping the sun God (Amon Ra). Biblical propaganda aside, this dude was totally Moses and Abraham’s best bud.
Our culture is full of Egyptian symbols, and the elite constantly strive to hide the fact that the founders of Judaism – and by extension, Christianity and Islam – were Egyptian. This shadowy Cabal of ridiculously rich and corrupt elites also control the media, government, military, banks, education system, and nearly everything else on Earth. As powerful as they are, however, they are merely a puppet government of the Galactic Federation of Light, which goes by various names including the Thuban Council, the Sphere Being Alliance, the Allies of Humanity, etc.

At the top of the pyramid are the Council of 13 and the Committee of 300, popularly known together as “The Illuminati”.

To understand the conflict between the Empire and the Federation, you must understand their respective philosophies.
The Orion Empire believes that less is more, and values being over doing. They are strongly in favor of quality over quantity. Populations of planets are kept limited and efforts are taken to preserve resources. Family bonds are strong and typically permanent. Because of this, their galactic population is much lower than that of the Federation. But what they lack in numbers, they make up for in skill, social influence, and intelligence. They have strong psychic abilities and use these abilities to communicate with both each other and people on planets they are attempting to influence, such as Earth. Imperial planets are typically good at negotiating with new, non-Federation civilizations, and their economies are primarily based on intergalactic tourism and trade. Their military is considered one of the most elite and efficient fighting forces in the Universe, but it is rarely used unless there is a grave threat to the Empire.
The Federation has the exact opposite philosophy. Their philosophy could be summed up as, “the more, the merrier”, or as I see it, everything is never enough. They value doing over being. We see this mindset exemplified in the culture pushed by our elites, always pushing us to think, do, and consume more. They push this culture because the Luciferians feed off of the energy we produce – literally and figuratively. Federation planets have high populations and tremendous economies, but typically deplete their resources very quickly, necessitating a mindset of conquest. Abuse, corruption, infighting, and addiction are all commonplace on most Federation planets, as they have been on Earth since the beginning of recorded history.
It goes without saying that most politicians, be they conservative or liberal, are merely pawns of the Illuminati, who in turn are pawns of the Federation. There are exceptions, of course, but most politicians are bought and paid for by the elite. That much is a given. It seems, though, that anti-establishment politicians are currently in vogue across the globe, and for good reason.

These sleazy Luciferian characters need no introduction for most.
The primary conflict on the political scene right now is not conservatism vs. liberalism, or Christianity vs. Islam, but globalism vs. nationalism. However, ALL of these conflicts are really just a rehash of a much more ancient conflict: Enki / Ea / Lucifer / Satan vs. Marduk / Ra / Horus / The Antichrist, his son. (These are not their true names; these beings are billions of years old, and have gone by thousands of names over the course of history. I use the Sumerian / Egyptian names simply because they are the oldest in the surviving public records of this era.) The globalists are mostly loyal to Ea and want to unite humanity under the banner of a One World Government. The nationalists, knowingly or unknowingly, serve Marduk, who believes that a fractured humanity will be easier to conquer than a united one. Ea currently holds the upper hand, but the tide is turning in Marduk’s favor. (It’s important to note that Enki is merely a title, meaning “Lord of the Earth”; the Luciferian “gods” have used many names throughout history to deceive humans, a phenomenon known as syncretism.)

This infographic, though quite biased in Lucifer’s favor, gives you a small sampling of the family tree.

He is a jealous god for a reason. Throughout history, he has woven in lie after lie with what remains of the truth.

Needless to say, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
The Federation is aware of the existence of the DUO, but prefers not to pass detailed information on DUO to its subjects. What knowledge it does pass on regarding DUO is limited to the elite class of its occupied worlds. The little information that does reach the masses is hidden in the form of occult symbols. Anybody who attempts to pursue this knowledge in further detail is often ridiculed and viewed as a dangerous heretic. This is true not just on Earth, but on Federation occupied planets throughout the galaxy.

The Federation genetically modified the Orion Queen’s evolving guardians (known today as Homo Erectus) so that they could be used as slave workers to build up their empire on Earth. The royal princes of the Federation’s leadership – also known as the Anunnaki or Fallen Angels – set up several initial bases on Earth in what is now the Middle East and Africa, and began fighting each other over resources and power.

Mostly true, with two caveats: Niburu is an artificial planet/mothership, and the gold is a drug that the hybrids use to stay young.
These two clans of Anunnaki – the Cult of Marduk and the Enkiites – have been fighting each other ever since. Using today’s terms, Marduk (leader of the world religions) is a strict conservative, while Lucifer, leader of the Enkiites, is a radical liberal. They have each hijacked various religions and ideologies (Enkiites = Catholicism, Judaism, Feminism, Communism; Cult of Marduk = Protestantism, Islam, National Socialism, Neoconservatism), which they each use to further their own agendas among humans. Ultimately, though, they are merely two sides of the same coin and both have the same end goal: the total enslavement of the human race and the ultimate conquest of the galaxy and eventually the Universe by the Federation. We humans have been fighting their wars for them ever since.

“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” Matthew 7:18

This is why we need to focus on Christ the Philosopher…not Jesus the “god”. The Gnostics had Jesus right, not the Roman pagan founders of the Catholic Church. Christ is a principle, not a personality.

That being said, anyone can be led astray if they don’t actually read Christ’s words. Humility, compassion, and growth are the key. I pray for them for myself every day, as I too have been deceived in the past. Believing in Jesus’ divinity is not a magic ticket to heaven.

Muslims are no better…
And neither are Nazis…

Or Communists…

Or Neocons.
This is my personal favorite version of Christ’s words, inspired and hand crafted by none other than the primary author of the Declaration of Independence – one of our greatest, smartest, and most independent Founding Fathers.
The Fallen Ones regularly interbred with humans and this is the reason why different races exist. Native Africans are currently the closest genetic match to the original prototype homo sapiens sapiens that the Annunaki created to serve them. All races are mutations caused by Lucifer’s experiments on the original guardians. My views on race have evolved over time, and I now prefer comparing them based on strengths vs. weaknesses rather than superior vs. inferior. We all evolve across multiple lifetimes at our own pace, often between races, regions, archetypes, and genders depending on where our energy is focused. Reincarnation and karma are real and often run within families, but in the end are still a trap invented by Lucifer preventing us from returning to the Kingdom of Heaven. Our past reincarnations are different people than we are, but simultaneously the same, because All of Us are DUO and vice versa.

I refer to this collective of powerful non-human individuals (The Federation), their leaders (Ea and Ra), and their human puppets in the Council of 13 and the Committee of 300 (the Illuminati), by a single term: the Controllers.
Both the Empire and the Federation are led by multidimensional beings who have transcended time and space and thus are in all points in time at once. They have mastered time/space travel and are able to change various timelines at will. However, with the election of Trump – a rogue Illuminati out for revenge – this has become a prime timeline, meaning all timelines are merging, and alternative timelines where Earth has already fallen are disappearing. (It took the Empire multiple timelines to figure out that the 2016 American election was the turning point in the Federation’s conquest of Earth.) The history of Creation is changing before our eyes, and we humans are privileged to witness this grand transformation.

Naturally, the mindsets of these two intergalactic empires are not compatible, and for the past million years or so, the Federation and the Empire have been at war on and off. The Federation scored a big victory 432,000 years ago when they captured Earth, the site of the Orion Queen’s Living Library experiment. What is the Living Library, exactly? Original and current humans are the ONLY beings in the Universe that are body, mind and soul in one unit. Other beings in Lucifer’s 4 percent Universe can be one or two, but never all three. That distinction is unique to humans. This means that humans can use their imaginations alone to create new worlds and gather information over long distances of space and time, which other star races cannot do. Also, our minds can move back and forth between any points in the past or future that we desire! This is what ancients mean when they say that linear time is an illusion and there is only the Eternal Now! Our creativity truly is our greatest asset! On top of that, we can also have sex to reproduce and experience orgasms, which is also very rare in Ea’s Universe. Oh yeah, and the entire Universe is encoded in our DNA! The Controllers are actually quite jealous of our divine bodies!

The farther back in time you go, the more traces of us you find.
It was then, during this long revelation of exopolitics spanning several months in 2017 and 2018, that I was informed of my true purpose. I am a channeler for the Orion Empire, just as many other humans channel extraterrestrial entities. I was not born to be a warrior, nor a worker bee. I was born to be a scout. A reconnaissance expert. My job is to gather intel and send it back to the Empire for the purposes of planning a near future liberation of Earth and humanity. (I am not concerned about the Controllers targeting me, as they have had plenty of chances already.)

Fortunately, humanity is making tremendous progress on seeing through the facade of lies that the Fallen Ones have projected onto this beautiful planet. Citizens are tired of the divide and conquer rhetoric fed to them by the Controllers. The rise of populism in Europe, the growth of grassroots Internet movements, the increasing popularity of holistic lifestyles, and the global protests against inequality are but a few examples of this Great Awareness.

You are seeing through the lies more and more. Great work!
The Controllers are scared and are attempting to push for another world war, but it is too late. The people are wise to their act and they know any major action they take will be met with a global revolution. To top it all off, the Empire is watching and waiting to make their move. The timeline of the liberation is uncertain and dependent on global political developments, but it is definitely in the works.
This is perfect timing, as the Controllers are waiting for their artificial planet, also known as Niburu, to return and fulfill their “prophecy” so they can continue their game of galactic conquest. (They have done this on many other planets already.) But humans are not playing along anymore, and that scares them. Contrary to Hollywood movie propaganda, aliens are NOT invincible, and a unified human resistance would pose a formidable logistical challenge to keeping Earth occupied.
The plan of the Controllers is to sufficiently weaken humans using divide and conquer tactics to the point where they will be docile, obedient slaves looking for a savior. At this point, the Federation will swoop in, “punish” the corrupt Luciferian Annunaki and their puppets, whom they call the “Dark Ones”, among many other names (in reality, they will merely be relocated), and usher in a new era with their “messiah king” where a standard global Federation government will assume control, led by a One World Religion where Lucifer and his family are worshiped as gods.

It may not look like this at first…but make no mistake: this is what they want.

In the beginning, though, it will probably look like this. Note the hand sign.

The Federation also includes Reptilian shapeshifters…

And above them, the Fallen Ones themselves, the Anunnaki, AKA the Tall Whites. (As depicted in the movie Prometheus)
This is the true New World Order (which I prefer to call the One World Government, or OWG) that the Controllers are planning for. Once the human population has recovered, the Federation will augment humans with cybernetics and genetic engineering, giving them an instant, multi-billion soldier army that they can use to conquer the galaxy and perhaps eventually the Universe. But this plan will only work if the Empire does not interfere before Niburu comes, AND if the entire human population is oblivious to the Controllers’ agenda.
At least one of those prerequisites is already out the window, meaning that there is still hope to liberate Earth. If humans are not sufficiently weakened by the time Niburu comes, the Federation will have to defeat two armies to reconquer Earth – the Empire and the native humans. The Empire is at the height of its power in this timeline, and will not allow Earth to fall again.

My advice to my fellow humans in these End Times would be to have faith and to stay positive. Remember to smile and laugh! Treat the ridiculous political developments here in America and elsewhere as a grand comedy of sorts. I personally like to visit web sites that poke fun at both sides of the political spectrum, just to laugh at the absurdity and the hypocrisy of the global elite and their incompetent puppets. A little humor goes a long way towards easing the soul of its burden. And what better cringe humor is there than the crazy reality TV show that is modern day news – brought to us by none other than the “reality TV president”?

This headline provided a MUCH needed laugh while I was homeless on the streets of New York City during my visions. God has a sense of humor alright, and by His grace, I made it back home alive!

I know this guy is a meme, but the joke’s on you: his world is far less boring than ours!

Rest assured, though, my friends: your best times are ahead of you. The insanity will not last forever. Stay strong, stay open, and believe.

My Top 5 Television Characters
Television has played a significant part of my life in recent years; it is my way of escaping the harsh reality of today’s world. Whenever I am feeling sad or upset, television is my answer to escape reality. Television has helped when the going gets tough, especially with recent personal issues.
What makes a good television programme are strong and relatable characters… What I look for in a TV character is a strong and complex backstory, takes no for an answer, heart; and even if you hate them, you can’t help but root for them! The majority of characters are British, mostly from BBC dramas Casualty and Holby City which have produced some very memorable characters over the years, plus being my guilty pleasures.
Here is a list of my 5 favourite TV characters:
5. Lindsay Denton

BBC drama, Line of Duty have produced some very memorable character in its so far four series run, but none quite as memorable as Series 2 suspected bent copper, Lindsay Denton played by Keeley Hawes.
Her downfall begins as she was entrusted to lead a police convoy escorting a civilian under witness protection (the civilian being one of the criminals from the first series of the police drama) is attacked by gunmen, with the civilian critically injured and all police officer are killed, with the exception of Lindsay Denton.
Lindsay Denton is regarded as iconic for her no non-sense demeanour and isn’t afraid to rub other people up the wrong way… She is a Detective Inspector and is incredibly intelligent. DI Denton is emotionally tortured as police in her department resent her for the death of her colleagues during the convoy.
She becomes the centre of an Anti-Corruption investigation by AC-12 and doesn’t take kindly to the fact that she had an undercover officer working alongside her. She is very quick to out AC-12’s undercover officer, Kate Fleming (played by Vicky McClure) and assaults her away from the public and CCTV cameras. She is questioned by AC-12 on the charge of conspiracy to murder, but it Lindsay isn’t afraid to show her aces as she publicly humiliates the AC-12 team with their own discretions.
Lindsay is a character you want to hate, but you do root for her as the series progresses. She has a short-temper as exhibited by assaulting an alcoholic neighbour with a wine bottle, or even assaulting a parole officer who attempted to have sex with her.

She is ultimately arrested for conspiracy to murder and perverting the course of justice, later being released to see her dying mother as well as two corrupt police officers kidnapping her in a prison van, killing one and seriously injuring the other when fearing for her life. She is later sent back to prison for life when the jury convict her of conspiracy to murder… But it was not the last we see her!
Her saving grace was during Series 3, she is released from prison when her appeal for conspiracy to murder was granted and the evidence later quashed following indiscretions by AC-12 officer, Steve Arnott (played by Martin Compston). You can’t fault her commitment for being a police officer, but with the question of perverting the course of justice still lingering over her head, the prospect of her returning back to policing was not good.
She certainly became quite the confidante when Steve Arnott came to her as he was now under AC-12’s investigation. Lindsay helped Steve with his inquiry into historic child sex abuse, but she comes back into the radar of Dot Cottan (Craig Parkinson) who arrests her and demanded Lindsay to destroy the list of evidence which will convict a number of politicians and police officers involved in the child sexual abuse scandal. Lindsay demanded to see AC-12 first before being sent to prison, as not only would she turn in the list, but also Dot for being ‘The Caddy’. She is shot dead by Dot in the final confrontation as she emails the list to AC-12 which charges the list of suspects involved in historic child sexual abuse.
Lindsay Denton is calculating, manipulative and cold; you wouldn’t to be in a fight with her as you will clearly lose, but she is a good ally to have when the going gets tough.
4. Henrik Hanssen

Calm, controlled and very mysterious, Henrik Hanssen was the character that got me watching Holby City religiously for the past 5 years. Guy Henry’s tall, enigmatic Swedish character caused a stir when he first walked on the wards of Holby City in Series 13 Episode 1 “Shifts” as joint Director of Surgery of Holby City Hospital, ruffling the feathers of Connie Beauchamp who was appointed in the same role.
Henrik Hanssen arrived as the grim reaper, being hired in by the Department of Health to oversee cuts within the hospital.
Henrik is a bit of an enigma, his private life he’d rather not discuss, he doesn’t usually display public emotion so willingly, and remains ice cool when the going gets tough.
During his first three years at Holby, he has been at the helm during the well-known plastics scandal storyline which almost closed down the hospital’s leading Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit, the subsequent deferral and later gaining Foundation Trust status at the hospital, the downfall following Richie Mooney’s father dying during the hospital’s trial AAU non-referral scheme, and of course flying back to Sweden to be with his son and grandchild.
Another intriguing storyline during his first tenure was his relationship with CT surgeon, Sahira Shah (Laila Rouass). Sahira was previously a junior under Hanssen and was specially employed as a new registrar on Darwin, which saw her go head-to-head against Jac for Connie’s old consultancy post which Jac ultimately won. His relationship is further intriguing as Hanssen tried to continually further her career with conference trips, delisting her official warnings and even making her husband jealous that she was getting close to fellow CT surgeon, Greg Douglas (which they did!) Certainly, Hanssen was distraught when Sahira left for Nottingham (my home city!) When he temporarily left during Series 15, he left for Sweden as we find out his father is dying and finally meets the son he has never met with his former love, Maja.

Following Hanssen’s initial exit, we were overjoyed when he returned back in Series 17 as Chief Executive Officer. Hanssen in his recent years has thawed as his backstory is further explored… During Series 18, he wrestled to keep his position as CEO from an ever-ambitious Guy Self (John Michie) who originally stepped down to focus on his neurosurgical super centre. Whilst he has been a vocal point by supporting other storylines, notably Arthur Digby’s death and supporting his junior doctors, it wasn’t long before his family reappear.
His fractured relationship with his son was ever present during Series 19 when he appeared initially as a patient. Hanssen was unnerved that a drugs trial from his son’s pharmaceutical company led to a number of patient deaths, which he ultimately severed his ties with his son for covering the information up. Fredrik returns as a registrar later on, one to gain his father’s approval but second to sell another trial drug… His attempts fail, with devastating consequences.
Fredrik returned with once more, this time with a vendetta against the hospital staff at Holby, who Hanssen favoured over him… He fatally kills Raf and severely injures Jac and Oliver with a rifle, only for Fredrik to be killed by armed police. The downfall from the shooting saw Hanssen become guilt ridden for his son’s actions and his depression explored. Right now, his storyline has been with colleagues and former university friends Roxanna MacMillan and John Gaskell
Hanssen is interesting; icy cool and calm under pressure, but underneath the surface lies a mentally exhausted gentleman… He’s a firm but fair hospital boss; he may look scary at first glance but he is loyal to his staff and close friends.
3. Takashi ‘Shiro’ Shirogane

The only animated character to make the list goes to one very handsome Takashi ‘Shiro’ Shirogane…
Shiro was the Garrison’s star pilot, breaking every single record known to man, but deep down his ambition has led to somewhat interesting backstory. His family backstory is unknown, suffers from a neuro-degenerative condition and was in a same-sex relationship with the lovely Adam (daggers at the Voltron writers!)
His story starts very early on; he was one of three pilots to have been at the helm of the failed Kerberos mission, kidnapped by the Galra and used a warrior to fend off the universe’s strongest creatures. His battling has led to a number of physical and mental health changes; his fringe turning white from the stress endured during his time being captive in the Galra, noticeable scar across his nose, his right arm amputated with a mechanised prosthetic and suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
He did manage to escape Galra captivity and crash landed back on earth, only to be quarantined by the Galaxy Garrison and later rescued by Garrison cadets which are Keith, Lance, Pidge (Katie Holt) and Hunk. Soon enough, Shiro is back in space and becomes leader of the Paladins and captains the Black Lion.

He is a father figure to the younger Paladins; a leader and assertive but has been known to be a bit of goofball from time-to-time. Keith has looked up to Shiro, which he provided support before going to Kerberos, and Pidge thanked him for looking out for his brother during their captive years in the Galra. However, his memories during his captivity in the Galra often come back to haunt him in anger and frustration.
Shiro doesn’t seem to get a rest and continues to suffer… He has been cloned on more than one occasion, actually been killed and had his memories transplanted into the Black Lion. His clone, Kuron was similar to Shiro in some aspects, but was mainly used a monkey by the Galra to extract information about Voltron. The clash between Keith and Kuron saw the mechanised Galra arm amputated and soon enough, Shiro’s memories from the Black Lion was transferred into the clone, thus Shiro now coming back to life.
His hair is now fully white, his amputated right arm now replaced by an Altean floating arm… His return to the Garrison now means he is captain of the Atlas to defend Earth from the Galra.
I admire Shiro; brave, courageous and flawed… I want to give this man a hug!
2. Dylan Keogh

Currently one of the most popular characters gracing long-running medical drama, Casualty; William Beck’s Dylan Keogh is blunt and to the point… He doesn’t care about the emotional downfall of a potentially life-threatening medical condition he diagnoses.
Dylan is fascinating… He says things as he sees them; a spade is a spade; a tension pneumothorax is a tension pneumothorax and vice versa! He first appears as a GP in Series 25 but specially recruited to Holby as a consultant by Miriam Turner. He initially turned down the role of consultant after rescuing Hannah Fleet from a bus crash, but later accepts as he found his old GP career boring and wanted to get back into the excitement of emergency medicine.
In his first few episodes, he rubbed a number of staff up the wrong way… He often forgot his colleagues’ names, didn’t take advice from his fellow consultants about treatment of patients, and his bedside matter left a lot to be desired. However, he is a fantastic diagnostician, preferring the rarer illnesses than the hurly-burly to resus… This is evident in the majority of his episodes, his dry-wit and lack of compassion for his patients makes him all the more enjoyable.
His friendship with Zoe Hanna (Sunetra Sarker) was pure gold; the banter felt genuine and when Zoe left permanently for Detroit, Dylan was saddened to lose his one true friend. Zoe has been there for Dylan in a number of situations… She provided support following Hannah Fleet killing paramedic Polly Emerson, for which he blamed himself after his abrasive attitude toward Hannah, she helped with Dylan’s diagnosis of OCD and was she was the first person he confided in about his previous alcoholism and she confided in Dylan about her relationship with Max.

We cannot forget about his failed marriage to Sam Nicholls (Charlotte Salt), a former army major seconded to the E.D. as a doctor, Dylan didn’t appreciate his private life being aired in public… The pair had been estranged and soon deteriorated after Sam revealed an affair with Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) during her GMC inquiry, leading to a very bitter divorce. Following the divorce, Dylan still harboured feelings for Sam when she was engaged with a relationship paediatric doctor, Tom Kent (Oliver Coleman), which saw Dylan leave after Series 27.
Dylan later returned in Series 29 originally as a Locum, but back full-time… His attitude has little changed, his lack of respect and bedside manner is still appalling, but all the more hilarious at the same time. His OCD was explored following the death of three patients under his care (none of them were his fault), his father making an appearance for which he has a bitter relationship with, blamed himself for not saving Caleb Knight (Richard Windsor) and more recently his alcoholism after his medical secondment to France to help injured refugees explored.
Dylan is compelling, tactless and normally shows zero empathy… Preferring the comfort of his houseboat and loyal dog, Dervla. Aww!
1. Jac Naylor

This wasn’t a tough choice for number one, Holby City’s very own ice queen and super b***h has come a long way since she first graced our screens in 2005! First appearing in Season 8 Episode 6 “Bird on a Wire”, there was no question she would be a bad egg.
Originally arriving as a Locum General Surgical Registrar, her main ambition was a permanent surgical post at Holby City, which she did receive later on in Season 8, but her prime target was to become Consultant which took much longer than previously hoped, having achieved it 5 years later in Season 13 after fulfilling Connie’s job.
Jac is quite a vile character on the face of it, often sleeping her way to get to the top of her career, and she isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers in the process. She has had some very memorable relationships, most interesting of them all being Joseph Byrne (played by Luke Roberts). Whilst Joseph and Jac’s initial relationship was blossoming, Jac had an ulterior motive however as Joseph is the son of very Senior CT Consultant, Lord Byrne; leading to Jac having an affair with him in order to secure a permanent Consultant position of her own… And guess what, it didn’t end well! Lord Byrne passed away as it became apparent Lord Byrne and Jac were having an affair, which lead to growing animosity from Joseph, wanting to get rid of Jac at all costs! Their animosity waned as Joseph began to know more about Jac’s past and becomes sympathetic… Joseph was Jac’s true love and when Joseph decided to leave Holby with his new baby from his previous marriage to Faye Morton (Patsy Kensit), Jac was distraught. Rosie Marcel knows how popular Jac and Joseph’s relationship is, and has reiterated that if she ever leaves Holby, Luke Roberts has promised he will be involved in her exit storyline… If it ever happens!
Her second year in Holby also explored her past; her reputation was already tainted with her affair with Lord Byrne, however it is established that she was previously in care and was a victim of rape after being assaulted by patient Alan Clooney, and more recently having to treat one of the staff members from her old care home. Her backstory was delved into further during Season 12 when her mother, Paula Burrows returns seeking a kidney transplant… Coincidence? It was discovered that Jac was abandoned at the age of 12 when Paula jetted off to India, leaving her behind and ultimately in care. Jac resented Paula but soon donated her kidney to her, hoping to re-establish a relationship with her mother, but as soon as she got her kidney, she decided to bugger off again to India, this time with Jac’s half-sister, Jasmine Burrows. Paula Burrows was poison and certainly explains why Jac is the way she is!

Despite Jac’s somewhat vile nature, she does have a heart which she doesn’t want other people to know about… Her friendship with Sacha Levy (Bob Barrett) is golden, her daughter Emma Naylor-Maconie from her previous relationship with Jonny Maconie is adorable, comforting Zosia March (Camilla Arfwedson) following the death of her close friend Arthur Digby (Rob Ostlere) and she is known for publicly backing her colleagues during confrontations… Notably protecting Jasmine Burrows (Lucinda Dryzek) when she was being bullied by Serena Campbell (Catherine Russell), and defending Donna Jackson (Jaye Jacobs) when a patient relative was stalking both her and Ric following their mother’s death.
Make no mistakes, Jac is an awful character but provides huge amount of depth… She doesn’t care what people think about her, she isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers and always wanting to be at the top of her career, no matter who she will take down. Rosie Marcel delivers a brilliant and memorable character; Jac’s dry-wit, awful bedside manner is combined with heart to people she genuinely cares about. She has been a mainstay at Holby for 13 years with the odd appearance in Casualty, and long may it continue…
One more thing… Jac may be a b***h, but she isn’t a snitch!

AQA BIOLOGY PAPER 2 - KEY POINTS FOR GCSE 2018
(ashjhfsdhgfkgjjs sorry this is so late! i will reblog it in the morning! also, i do not own the photos used for the cycles)
Homeostasis and the reflex arc
Homeostasis: maintaining/controlling your internal environment (e.g. body temperature, blood glucose levels, glucose content)
Stimulus is detected by receptor cells, information is sent as an electrical impulse, impulse travels to brain and spinal cord, brain coordinates a response, impulse goes to motor neurones, which sends information to the effector (gland or muscle)
In reflexes, the impulse bypasses the conscious part of the brain (involves chemical diffusion between the synapses of two neurones) so they are rapid and automatic
The brain
Cerebral cortex: consciousness, intelligence, memory and language
Hypothalamus: involved in controlling body temperature
Pituitary gland: produces hormones and chemicals
Medulla: concerned with unconscious activities (heartbeat, breathing etc)
Cerebellum: controls muscles activity and balance
Brain is protected by skull and encased in meninges
Can be studied by matching changes in memory/behaviour to areas of trauma, electrical stimulation, or MRI scans
The eye
Made up of cornea (lets light in), sclera (protects eye, outer layer), retina (light sensitive cells send impulses via optic nerve), suspensory ligaments/ciliary muscles (holds lens), lens (fine-tunes light), iris (controls pupil size), and pupil (changes light entry)
Bright light causes pupils to constrict – circular muscles contract, radial muscles relax
Dim light causes pupils to dilate – circular muscles relax, radial muscles contract
Near objects are refracted strong as the lens thickens – ciliary muscles contract, suspensory ligaments loosen
Far objects are refracted only slightly as lens thins – ciliary muscles loosen, suspensory ligaments contract
Hormones
Hormones are chemical messengers released by a gland in response to an internal change and carried in the blood
Negative feedback is doing the opposite of something to return it to normal
Example: thyroxine (thyroid gland in the throat) – uses iodine in your diet to control metabolic changes (remains stable in adulthood)
Adrenaline is not caused by negative feedback – triggers ‘fight or flight’ response (heart rate increase, glycogen converted to glucose, pupils dilate, mental awareness increase, blood diverted from digestive system to big muscles)
Insulin is released when blood glucose is high, glucose taken in by cells or converted to glycogen in the liver
Glucagon is released if too low, and glycogen is broken down into fats/amino acids, fat broken down for energy
Diabetes symptoms include thirst, glucose in urine, fatigue, weight loss, and overactive bladder
Treated by injecting insulin, pancreas/pancreatic cells implant, embryonic stem cells, diet, exercise and weight loss
Male reproductive hormone is testosterone – causes puberty (growth spurt, pubic and facial hair, larynx grows, testes grow/become active, shoulders and chest broaden)
Female puberty is caused by oestrogen (growth spurt, pubic hair, breast enlargement, external genitals grow, fat deposits on hips/buttocks/thighs, brain changes and matures, menstruation begins)
The menstrual cycle: egg matures, uterus lining thickens to prepare for pregnancy, at 14 ays a mature egg is released (ovulation), if egg is not fertilise by day 28, the uterus lining sheds along with egg
Controlled by 4 hormones – FSH (matures eggs in follicle, stimulates ovaries to create oestrogen), oestrogen (secreted with rising FSH levels, stimulates build of uterus lining, high levels inhibit FSH and stimulate LH), LH (stimulates release of egg, drops after ovulation), and progesterone (inhibits FSH and LH, secreted by empty egg follicle, maintains uterus lining/pregnancy)
Fertility
In IVF, mother is given LH and FSH to stimulate oestrogen, eggs are collected and fertilised with father’s sperm in the lab, fertilised eggs are kept in a special solution until they become embryos, and are then implanted back into the uterus
Contraception is a method of preventing the sperm cells and egg cell meeting fertilised
Includes hormonal methods (pill, implants, injections, patches), chemical methods (spermicides), barrier methods (condoms, diaphragms, IUD), and surgical methods (vasectomy, cutting oviducts)
Thermoregulation
Too cold = vasoconstriction (shunt vessel opens), blood vessels keep blood way from skin surface, less heat loss, muscles contract to raise hair to trap heat, shivering
Too hot = vasodilation (shunt vessel narrows), blood travels near surface of skin, sweat glands produce sweat, takes heat away from skin with radiation as it evaporates
A change in a few degrees can affect enzyme activity and how energy is transferred (i.e. CO2 diffusing out of cells down conc. gradient, body must maintain this steep conc. gradient)
Kidneys
Urea made when amino acids are broken down by deamination (removes amide group), makes ammonia which is converted to urea for safe excretion
Nephrons filter blood
Glucose, mineral ions, water and urea move out of blood
RBC/WBC/proteins are too large to be filtered so bypass kidneys
All glucose is reabsorbed
Water and mineral ions reabsorbed by selective reabsorption
Urine trickles to the bladder
Receptor cells in the brain detect conc. of solutes in plasma
If the blood is too concentrated, lots of ADH is produces, and a small volume of concentrated urine is produced
If blood is too dilute, less ADH is produced, and a large volume of dilute urine is produced
Doing lots of exercise/sweating/drinking little means less urine as more water/mineral ions are absorbed to make sweat
Doing little activity/drinking a lot produces lots of urine
Dialysis involves blood passing between partially permeable membrane surrounded by dialysis fluid with the same conc. of dissolved ions and glucose as a healthy person
Fluid contains urea, meaning a steep concentration gradient means only urea and excess mineral ions diffuse across
No active transport unlike in the kidneys because, contrary to what AQA believe, inanimate objects cannot respire
A transplant can be given but the risk of cell rejection means a patient must be on immune-suppressant drugs for life
Plant hormones
Roots grow down due to gravity (positive gravitropism)
Shoots grow up towards the light (phototropism)
Auxin distribute to bend due to gravity/the shaded side respectively to elongate plant cells and curve growth
Gibberellins stimulate breakdown of food stores in seeds at germination – used to speed up germination
Ethene controls cell division and ripens fruit
To make clones of the same plant (i.e. it has good properties/can be grown quickly), cuttings are taken and mixed with rooting powders
Auxin can be used as a weed killer
Reproduction
Asexual reproduction: one parent, genetically identical offspring, mitosis
Sexual reproduction: two parents, variation in offspring, gametes created by meiosis
In meiosis, genetic information is copied so there are 4 sets of each chromosome, each chromosome forms a pair of chromatids, and the cell divides twice in quick succession to form 4 gametes, each with a single set of chromosomes (23)
Fungi are made of hyphae, in which spores reproduce asexually but undergo meiosis to make the spores
Genetics
DNA: long polymer chain of repeating units, twists and folds into a double helix structure, paired up homologous chromosomes
Genes code for specific sequence of amino acids to make specific proteins by protein synthesis (transcription – DNA unzips, mRNA complements strand, carried out by ribosomes, and translation – tRNA complements mRNA codon and brings amino acid to ribosome, mRNA is entirely decoded until a chain of amino acids forms polypeptides)
The genome is the entire genetic material of an organism
A nucleotide is the combination of a sugar, phosphate backbone, and base
Nucleotides are grouped into 3 (codons)
The complementing base pairs are adenine & thymine, and cytosine & guanine
Non-coding parts of DNA are used for switching certain genes on/off (controls gene expression)
Mutation: change in sequence of bases in DNA, forming a different protein
Mutations in non-coding DNA won’t affect the phenotype, but how certain genes are expressed
Alleles are different versions of the same gene – each code for different protein
Inheritance was first developed as an idea by Gregor Mendel
If only one gene is involved, it is monohybrid inheritance
Polydactyl – dominant, cystic fibrosis (in the paper it’s meant to be in) – recessive, sickle cell anaemia – recessive, Huntington’s disease – dominant
Genetic screening can be done by amino centesis (fluid taken from foetal fluid via needle), chorionic villus sampling (sample of tissue from placenta), or by screening embryos (DNA isolated from embryo cell and tested with fluorescent dye which binds to specific alleles)
Variation and evolution
Discontinuous variation: characteristics can only result in certain values
Continuous variation: characteristics can take any value within a certain range (shown by normal distribution curve)
Speciation is natural selection due to a change in location
Darwin proposed the theory of natural selection (good mutation leads to higher survival rate and therefore is inherited more and more over time)
Lamarck said that animals change to suit their environment, but this was disproven as animals cannot change their genotype
Classification
Animalia, plantae, fungi, protoctista, prokaryote – kingdoms
Archaea, bacteria, eukaryotes – domains (Carl Woese)
Mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, birds – class
Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species
Named by binomial system (two components) in Latin from the genus and species
Ecology
Ecosystem: all the organism living in a habitat with all the non-living parts
Individual organisms -> populations -> communities
Interdependence is when species rely on each other
When all the species and environmental factors are in balance, it is a stable community
Abiotic factors – light, temperature, moisture, soil pH, minerals, wind, CO2, and Oxygen levels
Biotic factors – food, predators, pathogens, competition between species
Adaptations may be structural, behavioural or functional
Extremophiles live in extreme environments
Population: group of one species living in a habitat
Biodiversity: the variety of different species on earth – allows interdependence
Threats include pollution, over-exploitation, decay/burning of peat, deforestation and global warming (rising sea levels, changes migration, disrupt species distribution etc)
Solutions include breeding programs, protecting rare species, encouraging farmers to leave hedgerows (stop monoculture), reducing deforestation/CO2 emissions, fishing quotas, and adapting net sizes
Decomposition occurs by detrivores beginning the breakdown and then decomposers secreting enzymes to partially digest waste and leave small, soluble food molecules which are absorbed by soil
Producers -> primary consumers -> secondary consumers -> tertiary consumers (apex predators have no predators above them)
In a stable community, predators and prey rise/fall in cycles
Carbon cycle:

Water cycle:
Pyramids of biomass show trophic levels
Energy is lost due to faeces, excretion, urine, respiration etc so there are less organisms in higher trophic levels
Feeding animals high-protein food increases energy transfer, along with lowering temperatures and movement (although this is unethical)
Biotechnology uses Fusarium in large vats called fermenters with glucose syrup to make mycoprotein, which is then harvested and purified
Mycoprotein is low in fat, high in fibre/protein
Genetically modified crops can provide nutritional value (i.e. golden rice in Asia)
Good luck tomorrow!

Hundreds of offenders charged at airports in past six months
The AFP has charged more than 330 alleged offenders with about 420 charges at airports in the past six months as passengers and visitors are warned unlawful behaviour will not be tolerated. Most charges relate to intoxication or offensive behaviour, possessing a prohibited weapon, carrying prohibited items, public disturbance and incidents relating to assault. The AFP will increase patrols ahead of the festive season and will take action against those who are being disruptive or are breaking the law. AFP Assistant Commissioner Specialist Protective Command Scott Lee said he was concerned about the level of intoxication of some passengers who had been charged. “We expect passengers to be responsible when consuming alcohol but we also expect those who serve individuals to adhere to the responsible sale of alcohol provisions,” Assistant Commissioner Lee said. “Some behaviour on flights in recent months has been appalling and in some cases, dangerous. “Passengers, especially those travelling with children, expect to feel safe and should not have to witness intoxication, violence or bad behaviour. “Airports are not night clubs. Intoxicated individuals on flights or in the terminal can be charged, and those who are convicted of an act of violence at an airport or endangering the safety of an aircraft in flight can be sentenced to up to 20 years’ imprisonment. “These statistics, from April to October, 2022, reveals that almost 13 people every week are being charged at our major airports.” There are about 500 members within the AFP’s Airport Uniform Police, Protection Operations Response Teams and Counter Terrorist First Response team at nine domestic airports – Cairns, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. The AFP has 49 explosive detection dogs operating and 25 canines capable of detecting cash, drugs, firearms and technology devices. There can be occasions where the AFP is called to an incident – either on a plane or a terminal – but has not been informed of all the details before they arrive. For these reasons, we encourage the public to share information or footage with the AFP to help with incidents. Separately, in March last year, the AFP re-booted its Airport Watch program as travel increased post-COVID 19. Airport Watch aims to educate those working in and traveling through major airports about what should be reported and how. The AFP encourages the public to call Airport Watch on 131 237 if they see or hear something unusual while working or travelling through one of the nation’s major airports. Suspicious activity or unusual behaviour includes: A person observed displaying an unusually keen interest in security procedures; A person observed recording or taking photos in or around sensitive areas of the airport; Anyone acting strangely or in an unusual manner; Anyone heard asking questions to gain information about the airport; and Anyone trying to gain unauthorised access to secure areas. Manhunt for mafia son after the Murder of Ellie Price in South Melbourne
Police are investigating after the murder of a woman of 26 - Ellie Price - in South Melbourne, a member of one of the country's most infamous crime families. Ricardo "Rick" Barbaro, a 33-year-old with links to the Gold Coast and the west of Melbourne, is on the run from police following the discovery on Monday afternoon of Ellie Price's body in a townhouse on Park Lane. Police think the body of Ms. Price might have lain undiscovered for up to a week. Detective inspector Tim Day, the homicide squad chief, told The Age that Mr. Barbaro may have fled interstate. He stated investigators from both the homicide squad and the fugitive task force, along with a number of other police forces, had undertaken a substantial search over the past three days for Mr. Barbaro, but were unsuccessful. "At this stage we are looking in all states of Australia and interstate police are assisting us," he said.

Mr. Barbaro is a scion of the mafia's Barbaro crime family, an Australian branch, and slain Sydney underworld leader Pasquale Timothy Barbaro, 35, who was gunned down in a gangland attack in 2016. When contacted Thursday morning by The Age, the family declined to comment. Detectives spent Wednesday night negotiating with Mr. Barbaro's family, visiting his father's house, Giuseppe "Joe" Barbaro, in the west of Melbourne, trying to negotiate a surrender for the 33-year-old. "We've relied on our own methodologies and inquiries to locate him, and 99 times out of 100 they're successful, but at this stage we have not been able to locate him," Detective Inspector Day said Thursday. The senior officer has encouraged anyone who may have seen suspicious activity over the past fortnight in South Melbourne's Park and Ferrars streets to contact police.

"We are looking for information from residents, and people in that area, during the two weeks leading up to April 29," he said. "In particular the afternoon of Tuesday the 28th and into the early hours of Wednesday the 29th last week." Police started looking for Mr Barbaro on Tuesday hoping to query the Queenslander after it was reported that since around October 2019 he had been in a casual relationship with Ellie Price, one's mother. Police had been called to two-storey Park Street townhouse of Ellie Price at the back of a residential complex after Monday's family confirmed losing touch with the 26-year-old. They find her body inside. Detectives said she had been "significant assault" Forensic investigators have spent over 24 hours trying to piece together what had happened inside. Neighbors were told to turn in any CCTV camera footage they might have had from the six days before. Residents said their suburb pocket on the west side of Ferrars Street mainly housed families and elderly people and was typically free of violence. Police sources have told The Age Ellie Price may have been dead for several days before it was discovered. The Barbaro family are no newcomers to the spotlight, with proven ties to the Calabrian mafia. Another of Mr Barbaro's children, Queensland man Rossario Dom Barbaro, took his own life at age 28, a few months after the 2016 murder of his older sibling. Another brother is Harley Barbaro, 27-year-old Gold Coast man and alleged leader of the Villains gang. All four are sons of Joe Barbaro, a cousin of gangland icon Pasquale Barbaro, who was gunned down in a van alongside Jason Moran while attending a 2003 football training session for children in Essendon.

Joe Barbaro was jailed in Melbourne and Sydney for six years in 2005 for his involvement in an illegal drug ring. His father and his uncle, both also known as Pasquale, were killed in gangland attacks-his father in 1990 in Brisbane. In a brazen abduction, in 2004 Joe Barbaro's baby daughter Montana, just three weeks old, was abducted from her car seat at a Brimbank shopping centre. Two days later she was discovered in a derelict house in North Melbourne with a shaved head, after a passerby heard her shouts. In 2012 another linked Pasquale Barbaro, Joe's uncle's friend, was sentenced to life in prison for smuggling into Melbourne what was then the largest ecstasy haul in the world.

Detective Inspector Day on Thursday said police knew the guy they wanted was in contact with family and friends. He warned those people that someone who has been caught harboring a fugitive or helping to flee could face serious criminal charges. "Barbaro, this is not going to go away. This is an opportunity for you to come forward," Detective Inspector Day stated. "We have a young female, 26 years of age, who has died impulsively. "She has a family who is grieving for her and a community that is needing and deserving of answers."

Ricardo Barbaro is defined as 185 centimeters in height with a solid foundation, black hair and olive complexion. Police said he is notorious for frequenting Melbourne's north-west and west suburbs. Detectives are also searching for the 2009 Toyota Hiace white van with 1OZ 8PC registration.

The victim's car, a 2017 white E350 Mercedes sedan featuring distinctive 22ZERO pink numberplates, is missing from her house. Police have released Ricardo Barbaro's image and a photo close to that of the vehicle of Ellie Price in the hope that someone can provide information about his whereabouts. I'VE BEEN PONDERING ADVANTAGE
Today a lot of people who get rich by creating wealth, which is the satisfaction of people's desires. Another possibility would be to let that opportunity slip. Hence a vicious for the losers cycle: VC firms that have been doing badly will only get the deals the bigger fish have rejected, causing them to continue to do so but be content to work for a long time. One of the most powerful forces in history. In other words, you get anything, but this is the Bambi version; in simplifying the picture, I've also made everyone nicer. When I heard about after the Slashdot article was Bill Yerazunis' CRM114.1 Bulgaria, we could all probably move on to working on something so new that no one else has done before. What's a startup to do? I now believe, is like a pass/fail course for the founders, because they were living in the future.
Plans are just another word for ideas on the shelf. Which is not to run unnecessary utilities that people might use to break into this group.2 Also they find they now worry obsessively about the status of their server.3 A third and quite significant advantage of angel rounds is that they're too much influenced by recipes for wisdom. Computers are so cheap now that you can. Web-based software they are going to get bought for 30, you only have to compete with other local barbers. Things are very different in the early days of microcomputers.
Who made the wealth it represents? Large-scale investors care about their portfolio, not any individual company. In a traditional series A round they often don't. It would be like being an actor or a novelist.4 Actors do. But they usually let the initial meetings stretch out over a couple weeks.5 As one VC told me: If you were talking to four VCs, told three of them that you accepted a term sheet, ask how many of their last 10 term sheets turned into deals.6 Which for founders will result in the perfect combination: funding rounds that close fast, with high valuations.7
During the panel, Guy Steele also made this point, with the idea of versions just doesn't naturally fit onto Web-based applications, everything you associate with startups is taken to an extreme with Web-based applications. It had the same probability,. It's just not reasonable to expect startups to pick an optimal round size in advance, because that means your growth rate is decreasing. There are three main disadvantages: you mix together your business and personal life; they will probably not be as well connected as the big-name VC firm will not screw you too outrageously, because other founders would avoid them if word got out.8 Because of Y Combinator's position at the extreme end of the scale of the successes in the startup world, closing is not what deals do. But more than half the agreed upon price.9 When you can reproduce errors and release changes instantly, you can manufacture them by taking any project usually done by multiple people and trying to do things that might look bad. And software that's released in a series of small changes.
C is pretty low-level, but it looks like they're merely floating downstream. But what if your manager was hit by a bus?10 In the past, but users won't hear about them anymore. The most naive version of which is the prudent choice. If you're already profitable, on however small a scale, it costs nothing to fix.11 Since demo day occurs after 10 weeks, the company is default alive or default dead may save you from the building burning down. But by the time most people hear about it. Half the founders I talk to a startup.
With respect to the continuance of friendships. It would be nice to be able to find statistical differences between these and my real mail.12 Who would rely on such a test? He got a 4x liquidation preference. In a company founded by two people, 10% of the total or $10,000, whichever is greater. I asked him if he could get all the attention, when hardly any of them can succeed is if they all do. Before Durer tried making engravings, no one would have any doubt that the fan was causing the noise.
And once you've written the software, our Web server, using the state of your brain at that time.13 If server-based software will make new languages fashionable again. As word spreads that startups work, the number may grow to a point that would now seem surprising. Tokens that occur within the To, From, Subject, and Return-Path lines, or within urls, get marked accordingly.14 Another way to fund a startup is like being an administrator.15 And so you didn't get a lot of what looks like work. Except you judge intelligence at its best and character at its worst.16 The most obvious advantage of not needing money is that you can get at least someone to pay you significant amounts, the money is there, waiting to be invested. The advantage of raising money from them. And yet the trend in nearly everything written about the subject is to do the opposite: to squash together all the aspects of it that are most measurable.
In the long term. So if you want to isolate from your developers as much as a checkout clerk because he is one more user helping to make your software very efficient you can undersell competitors and still make a profit. Technology gives the best programmers of any public technology company. One thing we'll need is support for the new way that server-based.17 As long as VCs were writing checks, founders were never forced to explore the limits of the markets it serves. And that doesn't seem a wise move. A company that grows at 1% a week will in 4 years be making $25 million a month.18 In fact, I'd say investors are the most common type, so being good at solving those is key in achieving a high average may help support high peaks. VCs obviously don't need to: it lets them choose their growth rate. But at the moment when successful startups get money from more than one of the big dogs will notice and take it away. Now the group is looking for more investors, if only to get this one to act.19 For many, the only thing that mattered, and you are very happy because your $50,000 into at a valuation of a million can't take $6 million from VCs at that valuation.
Notes
Prose lets you be more likely to be self-interest explains much of the businesses they work for startups overall. The liking you have good net growth till you run through all the time I did the section of the magazine they'd accepted it for had disappeared. And that is not the shape that matters financially for investors.
I made because the arrival of desktop publishing, given people the shareholders instead of crawling back repentant at the outset which founders will do worse in the sophomore year.
But you can ignore.
Several people have historically been so many people work with me there. Thought experiment: If doctors did the same gestures but without using them to stay in a place to exchange views. Delicious, but in practice that doesn't have users.
But what they're selling and how unbelievably annoying it is not whether it's good enough at obscuring tokens for this at YC. But on the critical question is only half a religious one; there is a bit dishonest, incidentally, because it aggregates data from crashed hard disks. Different kinds of startups is that the VCs I encountered when we created pets.
It doesn't take a long time by sufficiently large numbers of users to recruit manually—is probably 99% cooperation.
If you're good you'll have to assume the worst. Particularly since many causes of the fake. Charles Darwin was 22 when he received an invitation to travel aboard the HMS Beagle as a type II startups won't get you type I startups. Basically, the most common recipe but not in 1950.
One thing that drives most people come to writing essays is to the minimum you need to be doctors? Later you can play it safe by excluding VC firms expect to make money from the 1940s or 50s instead of just Japanese.
And what people actually paid. But knowledge overlaps with wisdom and probably also intelligence. A more powerful, because sometimes artists unconsciously use tricks by imitating art that does.
It's not the original text would in itself be evidence of a company they'd pay a premium for you, what that means having type II startups won't get you a termsheet, particularly if a company, but the problems you have to want to create a silicon valley out of the proposal. Photo by Alex Lewin. But it is to write in a large organization that often creates a situation where they are.
But his world record only lasted 46 days. Statistical Spam Filter Works for Me.
There is always 15 weeks behind the doors that say authorized personnel only. The reason the US is partly a reaction to drugs. Steven Hauser. Needless to say whether the 25 people have seen, so we should, because it was briefly in Britain in the sense that if you needed to read this to be more like Silicon Valley is no different from technology companies between them.
Well, almost.
At two years, it is more of a heuristic for detecting whether you can talk about the Airbnbs during YC. I may try allowing up to two of the next three years, but conversations with other people's. If only one founder is always raising money, then work on open-source but seems to have to do work you love: a to make that leap.
The First Industrial Revolution, Cambridge University Press, 1996. The markets seem to be at the outset which founders will do worse in the 1990s, and that the feature was useless, but the meretriciousness of the Dead was shot there.
Whereas many of the former, and the first philosophers including Confucius and Socrates resemble their actual opinions.
Maybe what you can hire unskilled people to endure hardships, but it seems a bit.
According to Zagat's there are already names for this is the ability of big companies to say they prefer great markets to great people to bust their asses.
It's a strange feeling of being Turing equivalent, but there are no misunderstandings.
Thanks to Eric Raymond, Marc Andreessen, Ed Dumbill, Chris Anderson, Sam Altman, Robert Morris, and Mike Arrington for the lulz.

Synthèse littérature anglaise bac - Mr Hyde
Mr Hyde The novella The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was written by Robert Louis Stevenson, a Scottish novelist. The novella deals with a dual personality: a kind and intelligent physician turns into a psychopathic monster after imbibing a drug intended to separate good from evil in a personality. The story has been much depicted in plays, songs and films but they only focus on the last chapter, Dr Jekyll’s confession.
Narratology: The novella is made of 10 chapters and the first 8 chapters are told by an omniscient narrator giving his reader Utterson’s limited point of view. Mr Utterson is a lawyer and Dr Jekyll’s best friend. He plays the role of a detective, directly witnessing some strange events like the Jekyll’s sudden change of behavior, or getting information by hearsay his cousin a servant girl. The way to the final truth is long since once a question is solved a new one is raised. Utterson finds a lot of written documents but they are more disturbing than enlightening. Utterson’s puzzlement is rendered through the accumulation of questions or the use of indefinite pronouns or the repetition of the phrase “I don’t understand”. Trying to solve the mystery involves the characters in a Gothic atmosphere where the characters are both scared & obfuscated. Chapter 9 is a long letter by Dr Lanyon, Jekyll’s and Utterson’s friend. The great part of the mystery is finally solved: Jekyll and Hyde are one and the same person. Chapter 10 is Jekyll’s confession to Utterson: it’s a letter explaining how Jekyll came to change personalities. So the novella can be read as a detective story or an epistolary & autobiographical novella. But as Dr Jekyll is a scientist and invents a new drug, Stevenson also deals with science fiction. Religion and the theme of good and evil As a work of science fiction, Jekyll and Hyde is a cautionary tale warning us with the dangers of tampering with nature, with religious connotations: like Frankenstein, Jekyll plays god with human nature and is doomed to suffer the torments of his evil invention. Stevenson was mainly influenced by his religious education. The book uses religious language to describe the fight between Jekyll and Hyde. Hyde is often referred to as an ugly devil and constantly described by the adjective “evil”. Utterson exclaims “God forgive us” as he is shaken by Jekyll’s sudden change of mood, realizing what is going on can only be the work of the devil. In his confession, Jekyll admits that his attraction to evil would be fatal “if I were tempted, however slightly, I was certain to fall”. His fall is often associated with the presence of fire, the flames of Hell, especially in his study.
Duality and the Victorian days Jekyll and Hyde was written in the Victorian age, at a time when strict religious rules & sense of decorum played a prominent role. Highly respectable members of society were often guilty of enjoying secret pleasures, involving sex, alcohol and drugs. This is of course true of any age, but Victorian England was organized according to strict moral laws, so it seemed more shocking when those laws were broken. Stevenson never explains exactly what “pleasures” Jekyll and Hyde indulge in, he leaves the reader to imagine the worst. The contrast between respectable appearances and secret corrupted activities is regularly symbolized by the description, of places: while Jekyll’s front door and hall are welcoming, the backyard of his lab is a sinister-looking place. Similarly the physical description of Hyde (repulsive) is the opposite of Jekyll’s (generous). Hyde can kill people, Jekyll can save them. In Jekyll’s lab, there is a big mirror: it sums up the theme of the reversed double. However it’s important to notice that the drug in itself isn’t responsible for Jekyll’s split personality. In his confession, he admits that, even when he was a young man, he was attracted to live of life of pleasures but was careful to hide it to keep his good name. in that sense they denounce the hidden vices of a puritanical society.
Duality and Darwin’s theories Darwin had recently written his Origin of species. The struggle between a person’s moral and soul and his low animal nature was widely discussed at the time. Many Victorians believed that only strict moral could control the animal desires. Stevenson shows us that our animal desires, just like good and evil, are part of our personality. Jekyll’s social self is a gentlemanly, but his hidden self is regularly described as “wild” just like a beast.
CCL : the success of the novella may be explained by the truth it tells about our double nature. The use of onomastics (Jekyll = kill ; hyde = hide) is so relevant that the title of the novella has almost become commonplace.

Holby City S19 E54-E60
As with the Casualty catch up - since this is SO historical now, I’m going to put the whole lot under a cut, save dashboards!!! Episodes covered are:
S19 E54 - Thicker Than Water
S19 E55 - Things Left Unsaid
S19 E56 - Know Yourself, Know Your Enemy
S19 E57 - Kingdom Come
S19 E58 - It Has To Be Now
S19 E59 - Hungry Heart
S19 E60 - Hiding Places
Holby City S19 E54 - Thicker Than Water
So we have more Guiseppe this week. Yay. Not. A Small bowel volvulus couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Sorry, Raf.
More nefarious Fredrick, shipping in a Swedish patient, then pretending he didn't know her so he could fake diagnose her Pancreatic Pseudocyst and wow everyone with his swift and decisive diagnosis skills. Not to mention try and make another play to push a clinical trial for his drug. So glad that Hanssen twigged and called him out on it. Odious individual.
Ollie and Matteo's competition to be the most interesting was dull, although it did afford Jac a wonderful opportunity to show off her feistiness with her epic line (about Ollie's dullness) 'I'm as shocked as you are!'
In other and most heartbreaking news, Lofty transferred to AAU, and worst of all, Raf proposed to Essie. I mentally threw things at my TV.
Holby City S19 E55 - Things Left Unsaid
Well, Morven was rather uncharacteristically unkind to Lofty, wasn't she?! I mean, he may be one of the dullest humans in existence, and aggravatingly cheerful and fair, but still! Of course, he was going to make a brilliant diagnosis with the hypochondriac patient, thereby showing Morven his worth. Actually, I'm pretty glad it was something minor, and Morven still got to 'win' too, about the woman being a bit of a time waster. It may not have avoided the cliche, but it did slightly mitigate it!
Evil Fredrick strikes again with his tenuous grasp on truthfulness and medical ethics, by covering up a psychological issue with a father/son transplant. HOW is Nina the Snake letting these things happen, how is he getting away with it, with the barest of slapped wrists? Better not be because of his father, because I'm pretty sure said father wouldn't be putting up with such shenanigans!
So, Nina the Snake is pregnant, and trying to talk to a seemingly uninterested Matteo. I was pretty uninterested too.
And finally, it's Roxanna's first day. Somewhat less angst between her and Ollie than expected. There has been some speculation that she's an early insert, with an ultimate potential goal of being a love interest for Serena somewhen upon her return. I'm saying now, please god don't let this be true. It's almost impossible now, watching some of the insane pairings they've got going on, or building up. But that? I just couldn't.
Holby City S19 E56 - Know Yourself, Know Your Enemy
AKA the day of Ric's inquest at the Coroners Court, into the death of Elaine Warren - where, surprise surprise, it's found that there's a case to answer. As with any long running show, some story lines are more gripping than others. I have to say, for the most part, I'm finding this more of a slog than a thrill, but I will say that I really would like to know what happened with the anti-coagulants! Was it Ric's error? Did Donna screw up? Dear lord, I hope it's the latter. Really not a Donna fan.
So, Amira's back on Darwin. Why? Is she considered an interesting character? I suspect it's more in an attempt to expose some hole in Jac's psyche, since we're clearly being shown that she's struggling with something - hopefully setting us up for a lovely, meaty storyline, and not just the impending romance with Fletch (vomit).
Dom and Fredrick. I find it interesting and mildly alarming how jealous Fredrick is of Dom. Of course, he wants to be the most important in his fathers eyes, and he's already been shown to be extremely ruthless and manipulative in order to try and get his own way and climb to the top. So it's ironic that his behaviour traits and attempts at professional shortcuts should be exactly what set him back in his incredibly rational and fair father's eyes, against Dom's honesty and genuine attempts to be the best he can be, and the best for his patients. I enjoyed his detective work this episode, diagnosing the Wegener's Granulomatosis (GPA), and I liked his decision to pull it as the case study for his Junior Doctors Award project, in favour of something far more prosaic. To my mind, it's a nice demonstration of exactly how much Dom has grown as a person and a doctor, and was the perfect offset for Fredrick's showboating.
Holby City S19 E57 - Kingdom Come
Highly stressful, edge of your seat stuff tonight. Will Holby be closed, in favour of St Francis? Will all our beloved characters lose their jobs? Maybe not quite as stressful as the producers would like, as I think we can all pretty much assume that somehow, Holby will endure. But, the episode did afford some good moments for Hanssen - most noteably 1) the opening scene on the roof, 2) a great camera shot of Hanssen standing on Keller as the camera panned along the ward toward him, and 3) Hanssen sitting in his office, with his glasses off. (I'm not sure why the last one pleases me so, but it does, so there you go!).
I'm always very pro Hanssen heavy storylines, I think he's an exceptional character. With this one, I was also pretty delighted that in some part, it was the underrated Sacha who saved the day, with his innovative idea of implementing SAINT (post-surgical accelerated independence using novel technology). Loved the final scene with Hanssen acknowledging Sacha's importance to him and the hospital, over a drink.
Jeremy Warren is back, wanting his mothers notes from Donna. HOW is Donna so stupid as to keep entertaining him? Surely she realises at this stage that she's putting herself, the hospital, the case itself in danger by continuing to keep in contact with him?!
Also the return of one of my favourite patients, Mr James. He has the best lines, and excellent delivery. His speech about Matteo's hair was just classic, I bet he's a dream to write for.
Other moments included Ollie's wedding ring, lots of posturing by evil Fredrick, but special acting credit MUST go to Matteo's red trainers, which stole every scene they were in!
Holby City S19 E58 - It Has To Be Now
Oh, what fun. We were forced to rewatch Raf's proposal to Essie in the pre credits. Ouch. Followed by a post credit dramatic running scene which is supposed to remain us we love Ollie (although I'm sorry to say, black hoodie aside, he definitely lost cool points IMO). Which was then supposed to help us remember that we hate Roxanna, because not only did she kill Ollie's wife, but she's also trying to steal his project funding. Oh, but whoops. Her project is on Alzheimers, and hey, her super talented surgeon husband has Alzheimers, so all of a sudden, she's not The Bad Guy, and we (and Ollie) want her to get the funding, because she and her husband deserve it...
And here's where I stop being sarcastic and flippant, because as hackneyed as the storyline is, I don't consider dementia of any form to be a laughing matter, having personally seen what it can do to a loved one. And I can begin in the smallest way to imagine the pain of what she and her husband must be feeling. But, it doesn't change the fact that for me, this entire story was so heavily signposted that it kind of lost impact.
Oh, holy shitbags. Not only did Raf and Essie get engaged, but now they blinking well got married. On the one hand, I thank goodness that it was off screen and I didn't have to watch it, but on the other, EW! Couldn't they have had their 2 episodes of happiness, then suffered a monumental breakup, or the death of a close family member which would leave one of them angry, depressed, drinking too much and lashing out at colleagues, before buggering off to a vineyard in France, whilst the other went to do humanitarian work with the army? Oh, whoops, wrong pairing... But poor, poor Sacha.
Ooh, Morven and her mother. Not a shining example of maternal glory to my mind. Personally, I'm thinking Morven is SO much better off without her.
Holby City S19 E59 - Hungry Heart
Ooh, lashings of evil Fredrick. Undermining Dom to Henrik, Sacha to the pathologically honest patient's girlfriend, then finally 'accidentally' telling Matteo about Nina the Snake's pregnancy. Such an unbelievably unlikeable character. There was a little celebration in my soul when Henrik told him that there was a recruitment freeze, which would prevent him from applying for a registrar's post. Karma?! So, Hanssen thinks Fredrick should go back to Sweden (well, don't we all? Except perhaps his poor wife, who I, for one, seem to have horridly misunderstood!)
So, we got one teeny tiny scene where Lofty visited Dom, and gave him a super squishy hug of congratulations. Gotta keep the memory of that not-quite relationship lurking somewhere in the viewers mind, so it's ripe for revisiting. Right?
Lots of Ric drama. I have to say, I loved Morven's supportiveness, inviting him for coffee. Such a nice change from Donna's hounding. Ric may have been a mentor and friend to her, but last I checked, that doesn't automatically mean she has the right to invade every corner of his life, and to know every move he makes. I felt really angry when she was hounding him about where he was when Jeremy's mother died. She wants to know why he won't tell her? Well, perhaps it's because it's none of her ****ing business!!!
COTWs, WAG with appendicitis, and the slightly more interesting kid with a funky neck, who passed out every time he looked to the side too quickly.
Holby City S19 E60 - Hiding Places
I'm afraid I found this episode rather dull. More of the Ric/Donna/Jeremy debacle, and I find myself no clearer as to why Donna persists in hanging around with Jeremy in the face of his allegations. Ric is supposedly her friend. I get that she doesn't know what actually happened, so she doesn't know for sure that he is completely innocent, and I get that she feels some level of empathy toward Jeremy for his loss - BUT, Ric is supposed to be her friend, and she truly believes he is an excellent doctor and surgeon, and she also believes in human error, so why is she not supporting Ric more? (I'd just like to qualify at this point that I don't mean by lying for him). And even more to the point, surely her continuing interaction with Jeremy is actually detrimental to the court case? At least Jac stood up for Ric, even if it was in an inappropriate way. And ooh, look, seems like Jeremy is going to try and squeeze a second court case out of it!
On the one hand, I believe in justice. But on the other, I think this litiginous society in which we live is insane.
So, Fredrick is indeed gone. But is it for good? (Please be yes, please be yes....)
Nina and Matteo and the baby. I shall sum up my thoughts into a single word. YAWN.
So, this episode had a patient naming dogs after staff based on their personality traits. Oh, how I chortled and slapped my thigh.
Mildly interesting thread - the unravelling of Jac. Awesome, awesome character.

Troops nab 3 NPA fighters in Zamboanga Sibugay
#PHnews: Troops nab 3 NPA fighters in Zamboanga Sibugay
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government troops have arrested three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a law enforcement operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, military officials said Wednesday. Brig. Gen. Generoso Ponio, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, identified the arrested NPA rebels as Amado Quilicot, Darwin Petralba, and Delfin Petralba. Ponio said the three were arrested during the serving of a search warrant around 5:40 a.m. Monday in Barangay Sandayong, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay. The suspects yielded two .38-caliber revolvers, a homemade handgun, two fragmentation grenades, and ammunition. They were turned over to the provincial office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Ponio said. “We can sustain the gains of peace and progress in Western Mindanao if government forces, local chief executives, and constituents continuously work together as a team,” he said. Earlier, an alleged member of the Barahama Ali group identified as Ben-Ben Bahari was killed in a shootout with government troops during an anti-drug operation in Barangay Lapaz, Naga. Police said shootout ensued when Bahari opened fire prompting the troops to return fire during an anti-drug operation over the weekend. Bahar was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. The troops recovered some PHP34,000 worth of suspected shabu, a .45-caliber pistol, magazines, ammunition, and marked bills. The Barahama Ali’s group gained notoriety for its kidnap for ransom and illegal drug activities in Zamboanga Sibugay province. Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, vowed that government troops will continue the intensive campaign against terrorists and private armed groups in Zamboanga Sibugay. “The key to achieving peace and progress is sustenance. The military relentlessly operates in critical areas to pound down terrorists that they may be dissuaded from fighting government troops,” Sobejana said. (PNA)

Ion Swabs and Ion Scanners
Ion Swabs and Ion Scanners[1] are mainstream forensic science equipment used by law enforcement. You see them firsthand every day at airports when someone gets a random hand or luggage swab. Ion Scanners are cheap compared to other alternatives, can be handheld, and very little training is needed to use them. These are some of the reasons why government agencies are adopting this technology to assist criminal investigations. Ion Scanners are used to detect illegal substances, explosives, hazardous chemicals, and chemical weapons. The Ion Scanners in use now are highly sensitive and can detect trace amount of substances as low as .01 nanograms, an amount smaller than the finest grain of sugar and unnoticeable to the naked eye. However, the science may not be so reliable.
Commonly, the police use this technology to test an inanimate object like a doorknob. The belief is that if a doorknob tests positive for drugs then there must be drugs behind the door. However, this belief is farfetched when looking at the potential false positive rates and analyzing the risk of incidental or secondary transfers. Looking at an example situation points out the major issues with Ion Scanners and Ion-Mobility Spectrometry. Think of an apartment building that has a shared hallway and there are ten apartments connected to that hallway. While in this hallway a police officer takes an Ion Swab of Apartment 1’s door handle. The Ion Swab was then run through an Ion Scanner and there was a positive result for cocaine. After receiving this information, the police officer assumes that there is cocaine in Apartment 1. So, the police officer gets a search warrant for Apartment 1 and after ransacking the apartment found no drugs.
How can that be if the Ion Scanner detected cocaine on the door handle?
First, the Ion Scanners are very sensitive and detect trace amounts down to .01 nanograms, Second, the Scanners cannot determine when the cocaine traces were placed on the door handle or even how the cocaine got there. Anybody who used the hallway could have transferred the trace amounts of cocaine to the door handle. Not just the residents of the nine other apartments, but also any visitors that traveled down the shared hallway. Those people would need some trace of cocaine on their hands to transfer it to the door handle.
Consider the results of an experiment in the 1990s by members of the Addiction Research Center in Baltimore, Maryland.[2] The experiment tested a collection of single dollar bills from 14 different cities in the United States for trace amounts of cocaine. What the experiment found was that 79% of the dollar bills had trace amounts of cocaine on them, even though the likelihood those specific bills were involved in any sort of drug deal was very low. The experimenters concluded that the reason for the cocaine is due to cross-contamination from one contaminated bill to another or from contaminated money-counting machines. That same study concluded that once a dollar bill become contaminated it would likely remain contaminated.
Add the results of this experiment to our apartment example and our pool of potential cocaine contaminators increases. Instead of just cocaine users who used the hallway, anybody that handled cash and used the hallway could have contaminated the door handle with cocaine. All the Ion Swab and Ion Scanner really proved is a small amount of cocaine was present on the door handle; and anyone who uses cash could have transferred it there. A search warrant then becomes much harder to obtain and the likelihood of finding cocaine inside apartment one is quite low.
This is not the only problem that has occurred with Ion Swabs and Ion Scanners. The United States and Canada have both had problems with false positive results during prison visitations. In the 1990s, Ion Scanners were introduced in many prisons around the United States to reduce drugs being brought into the prison. However, lawsuits by both visitors and guards erupted since claiming that false positives have led to unjustifiable strip searches and the suspension of visitation privileges. The claim was the Ion Scanners were detecting components of illegal substances that were also found in legal products like medication, perfume, hand sanitizer, and even poppy seeds. The situation with false positives got to be so severe that in 2009 the Federal Bureau of Prisons discontinued the use of Ion Scanners until accuracy and reliability standards could be met.
What does this all mean and how does this information help me in a criminal case?
Unfortunately, Minnesota case law does not help to answer this question. The Minnesota Supreme Court and the Minnesota Court of Appeals have not decided any cases that relate to Ion Swabs and Ion Scanners use in criminal cases. There are district court decisions that state a search warrant is needed to obtain an Ion Swab. Based on the limited information Ion Scanners provide, the problems with secondhand contamination, and the risk of false positives there is a strong argument that the results of any Ion Scanner are very unreliable. Certainly, Ion Scanners have a role in the protection of airports and explosives. But more justification is needed to enter the privacy of someone’s home and infringe one’s Constitutional Rights. A showing of .01 nanograms of an illegal substance is not conclusive of anything, especially if the illegal substance is cocaine.

Before joining the firm, he graduated from Mitchell Hamline School of Law and clerked for a Ramsey County District Court Judge. Minnesota Criminal Appeals Attorney; Minnesota Criminal Defense Lawyer; and Criminal Defense Attorney Woodbury MN.
[1] Ion Swabs and Ion Scanners are pieces of equipment used in Ion-Mobility Spectrometry. Ion-Mobility Spectrometry is the use of electric fields and ionization to determine if certain chemicals or substances are present. Specifically, a sample would be taken with an Ion Swab, a wand, or the machine itself. That sample then would travel through the scanner device and the device analyzes what substances are in the sample based upon the rate of speed the particles or ions move. Ion-Mobility Spectrometry is not new technology. It was developed originally in the 1950s and 1960s, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that this technology started to play a role in people’s everyday lives.

Ellenberg, Jordan - How Not to Be Wrong

“Mathematics is pretty much the same. You may not be aiming for a mathematically oriented career. That’s fine—most people aren’t. But you can still do math. You probably already are doing math, even if you don’t call it that. Math is woven into the way we reason. And math makes you better at things. Knowing mathematics is like wearing a pair of X-ray specs that reveal hidden structures underneath the messy and chaotic surface of the world. Math is a science of not being wrong about things, its techniques and habits hammered out by centuries of hard work and argument. With the tools of mathematics in hand, you can understand the world in a deeper, sounder, and more meaningful way. All you need is a coach, or even just a book, to teach you the rules and some basic tactics. I will be your coach. I will show you how.”

We tend to teach mathematics as a long list of rules. You learn them in order and you have to obey them, because if you don’t obey them you get a C-. This is not mathematics. Mathematics is the study of things that come out a certain way because there is no other way they could possibly be.

prosthesis that you attach to your common sense, vastly multiplying its reach and strength. Despite the power of mathematics, and despite its sometimes forbidding notation and abstraction, the actual mental work involved is little different from the way we think about more down-to-earth problems.

What’s the numerical value of an infinite sum? It doesn’t have one—until we give it one. That was the great innovation of Augustin-Louis Cauchy, who introduced the notion of limit into calculus in the 1820s.* The British number theorist G. H. Hardy, in his 1949 book Divergent Series, explains it best: It does not occur to a modern mathematician that a collection of mathematical symbols should have a “meaning” until one has been assigned to it by definition. It was not a triviality even to the greatest mathematicians of the eighteenth century. They had not the habit of definition: it was not natural to them to say, in so many words, “by X we mean Y.” . . . It is broadly true to say that mathematicians before Cauchy asked not, “How shall we define 1 − 1 + 1 − 1 + . . .” but “What is 1 − 1 + 1 − 1 + . . . ?” and that this habit of mind led them into unnecessary perplexities and controversies which were often really verbal.

Dissatisfying as it may be to partisans, I think we have to teach a mathematics that values precise answers but also intelligent approximation, that demands the ability to deploy existing algorithms fluently but also the horse sense to work things out on the fly, that mixes rigidity with a sense of play. If we don’t, we’re not really teaching mathematics at all. It’s a tall order—but it’s what the best math teachers are doing, anyway, while the math wars rage among the administrators overhead.

50%. That’s how the Law of Large Numbers works: not by balancing out what’s already happened, but by diluting what’s already happened with new data, until the past is so proportionally negligible that it can safely be forgotten.

The point of Bennett’s paper is to warn that the standard methods of assessing results, the way we draw our thresholds between a real phenomenon and random static, come under dangerous pressure in this era of massive data sets, effortlessly obtained.

If only we could go back in time to the dawn of statistical nomenclature and declare that a result passing Fisher’s test with a p-value of less than 0.05 was “statistically noticeable” or “statistically detectable” instead of “statistically significant”! That would be truer to the meaning of the method, which merely counsels us about the existence of an effect but is silent about its size or importance. But it’s too late for that.

For Neyman and Pearson, the purpose of statistics isn’t to tell us what to believe, but to tell us what to do. Statistics is about making decisions, not answering questions. A significance test is no more or less than a rule, which tells the people in charge whether to approve a drug, undertake a proposed economic reform, or tart up a website. It sounds crazy at first to deny that the goal of science is to find out what’s true, but the Neyman-Pearson philosophy is not so far from reasoning we use in other spheres. What’s the purpose of a criminal trial? We might naively say it’s to find out whether the defendant actually committed the crime they’re on trial for. But that’s obviously wrong. There are rules of evidence, which forbid the jury from hearing testimony obtained improperly, even if it might help them accurately determine the defendant’s innocence or guilt. The purpose of a court is not truth, but justice.

In the Bayesian framework, how much you believe something after you see the evidence depends not just on what the evidence shows, but on how much you believed it to begin with. That may seem troubling. Isn’t science supposed to be objective? You’d like to say that your beliefs are based on evidence alone, not on some prior preconceptions you walked in the door with. But let’s face it—no one actually forms their beliefs this way. If an experiment provided statistically significant evidence that a new tweak of an existing drug slowed the growth of certain kinds of cancer, you’d probably be pretty confident the new drug was actually effective. But if you got the exact same results by putting patients inside a plastic replica of Stonehenge, would you grudgingly accept that the ancient formations were actually focusing vibrational earth energy on the body and stunning the tumors? You would not, because that’s nutty. You’d think Stonehenge probably got lucky. You have different priors about those two theories, and as a result you interpret the evidence differently, despite it being numerically the same.

In math there are many, many complicated objects, but only a few simple ones. So if you have a problem whose solution admits a simple mathematical description, there are only a few possibilities for the solution. The simplest mathematical entities are thus ubiquitous, forced into multiple duty as solutions to all kinds of scientific problems.

“Lives in the same city as” is transitive, too—if I live in the same city as Bill, who lives in the same city as Bob, then I live in the same city as Bob. Correlation is not transitive. It’s more like “blood relation”—I’m related to my son, who’s related to my wife, but my wife and I aren’t blood relatives to each other. In fact, it’s not a terrible idea to think of correlated variables as “sharing part of their DNA.”

Keep this in mind when you’re told that two phenomena in nature or society were found to be uncorrelated. It doesn’t mean there’s no relationship, only that there’s no relationship of the sort that correlation is designed to detect.

So we don’t and can’t know the exact expected value of launching a campaign against eggplant or vibrating toothbrushes, or tobacco. But often we can say with confidence that the expected value is positive. Again, that doesn’t mean the campaign is sure to have good effects, only that the sum total of all similar campaigns, over time, is likely to do more good than harm. The very nature of uncertainty is that we don’t know which of our choices will help, like attacking tobacco, and which will hurt, like recommending hormone replacement therapy. But one thing’s for certain: refraining from making recommendations at all, on the grounds that they might be wrong, is a losing strategy. It’s a lot like George Stigler’s advice about missing planes. If you never give advice until you’re sure it’s right, you’re not giving enough advice.

Public opinion doesn’t exist. More precisely, it exists sometimes, concerning matters about which there’s a clear majority view. Safe to say it’s the public’s opinion that terrorism is bad and The Big Bang Theory is a great show. But cutting the deficit is a different story. The majority preferences don’t meld into a definitive stance.

I once met a historian of German culture in Columbus, Ohio, who told me that Hilbert’s predilection for wearing sandals with socks is the reason that fashion choice is still noticeably popular among mathematicians today. I could find no evidence this was actually true, but it suits me to believe it, and it gives a correct impression of the length of Hilbert’s shadow.

But most of the mathematicians I work with now weren’t ace mathletes at thirteen; they developed their abilities and talents on a different timescale. Should they have given up in middle school? What you learn after a long time in math—and I think the lesson applies much more broadly—is that there’s always somebody ahead of you, whether they’re right there in class with you or not. People just starting out look to people with good theorems, people with some good theorems look to people with lots of good theorems, people with lots of good theorems look to people with Fields Medals, people with Fields Medals look to the “inner circle” Medalists, and those people can always look toward the dead. Nobody ever looks in the mirror and says, “Let’s face it, I’m smarter than Gauss.” And yet, in the last hundred years, the joined effort of all these dummies-compared-to-Gauss has produced the greatest flowering of mathematical knowledge the world has ever seen.

flows with vastly augmented force. The lessons of mathematics are simple ones and there are no numbers in them: that there is structure in the world; that we can hope to understand some of it and not just gape at what our senses present to us; that our intuition is stronger with a formal exoskeleton than without one.

Every time you observe that more of a good thing is not always better; or you remember that improbable things happen a lot, given enough chances, and resist the lure of the Baltimore stockbroker; or you make a decision based not just on the most likely future, but on the cloud of all possible futures, with attention to which ones are likely and which ones are not; or you let go of the idea that the beliefs of groups should be subject to the same rules as beliefs of individuals; or, simply, you find that cognitive sweet spot where you can let your intuition run wild on the network of tracks formal reasoning makes for it; without writing down an equation or drawing a graph, you are doing mathematics, the extension of common sense by other means. When are you going to use it? You’ve been using mathematics since you were born and you’ll probably never stop. Use it well.

Death, drugs, and gangs: why is there so much crime in this part of Cambridge?
Two streets in Cambridge have been at the centre of organised crime, gang warfare, a killing, drug dealing and violence.
Today the News asks why Darwin Drive and Akeman Street in Arbury have spawned such criminal activity.
Calls have been made for more police on the ground in the area and for Cambridge City Councilchiefs to engage more with the community and put more resources into the streets.
Police have targeted the area after a spate of disorder and have worked to bring drug dealers to justice.
Just this week two drug dealers - one from Darwin Drive, another from Akeman Street - were jailed for six years for dealing cocaine and cannabis.
The problems in the street in Arbury stretch back many years and a public meeting was held by residents to urge police to tackle drugs and crime - but that was in 2015.
Arrests were made and patrols were increased but since then further shocking incidents have unfolded.
There has been gun crime, gang warfare, drug dealing, violence and a suspected murder.
One former resident of Darwin Drive who was brought up in the street has called for more police on the ground and extra resources from Cambridge City Council.
The father-of-two, who asked not to be named, said: “Its an area that has been forgotten about because Darwin Drive and Akeman Street is in a kind of hidden loop and is quite insular and densely populated so that criminal activity generally goes unnoticed and there is not many police around unlike the part of Arbury I now live in where you do see patrol cars quite often.
“You never see the police just patrolling around the Darwin Drive area.
“I think the council should pour more resources in and engage with the community more and there should be more police on the ground.”
Police say they have had success in stamping out disorder and bringing criminals to justice.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “As a result of disorder in the area last year we uncovered a small number of individuals who were suspected to be involved in drug dealing and associated violence.
“The Cambridge prevent team have systematically worked to break down that criminality which has resulted in a number of individuals being imprisoned or awaiting trial for drugs offences.
“This small group are not representative of the wider community in the area who have supported our action.”
This week the News reported how two drug dealers from Akeman Street and Darwin Drive were jailed after a determined investigation by detectives.
Abdul Salam Ali, 23, and Ben Driver, 27, were locked up for a total of almost six years after being convicted of possession with intent to supply cannabis and cocaine.
They were arrested following a police investigation that began in March, this year.
Cambridge Crown Court heard officers raided Driver’s home, in Akeman Street, Cambridge, in March and found cocaine, herbal cannabis, £700 in cash and a mobile phone.
Forensic officers were able to link the drugs to Ali, of Darwin Drive, Cambridge, through mobile phone messages and a fingerprint.
The area was recognised as a crime hotspot a number of years ago when when Cambridge City Council installed a CCTV camera at the junction of Akeman Street, Stretten Avenue, and Darwin Drive.
But it was removed before the death of James Cromwell who died in nearby Stretten Avenue on June 30. The council is now reviewing the decision.
A man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder following the death of the 27-year-old, and a trial will be held next year.
CCTV images from a private camera obtained during a News investigation caught a glimpse of the extent of gang warfare and showed the moments a fight broke out on Darwin Drive leaving expensive cars smashed and property damaged in January last year.
In the footage, which you can watch at the top of the article, a motorist mounted the pavement and smashed into several cars in a desperate bid to escape an angry mob wielding poles causing chaos in the street.
