sleep, pretty darling [ dallas winston x f!reader ]
synopsis : you're overworking yourself with studying in preparation for exams, and dally isn't havin' it. contains : academic overachiever reader, whipped dallas winston, mostly just tooth-rotting fluff, notes : first writing post on here, kinda (very) nervous!! think i'm gonna make a point to write for each greaser in effort to shoehorn my way into outsiders tumblr?? yeah??? okay, GREAT. 99% chance i post something different for dal tho. just a messy, silly little drabble. ironically wrote after not sleeping for 32 hours. i'm sorry if he's a lil ooc y'all, this is my first dal fic in give or take a year!!! he'll get there, i promise! mwah mwah hope u enjoy warnings : not proofread, we die like dally
i.
PALE BLUE EYES slant sideways, casting a brief look at you.
Your nose is scrunched in concentration over the comically large textbook laid open in your lap. You're hunched over, tracing under each printed word with your finger, thumbing down when you stop to take a note.
Dallas is preemptively annoyed. He's been leaning expectantly against the doorframe circa ten seconds ago, and you're yet to notice him. He takes one last dramatic drag from his cigarette before begrudgingly discarding it on the outsole of his shoe. The creases on on your nose tighten as you catch a whiff of the wafting smoke. Though a vehement anti-smoker yourself, you've spent enough time around the gang to guarantee your lungs at least a permanent char. Despite this, you always just have to make a big song and dance of your distaste for them, and Dally does nothing to curb the quirk of his lips into a slight grin.
You have him, hook line and sinker.
"(Y/N)," he speaks at last. His tone is firm yet without underlying aggression; one exclusively for your ears.
You perk up.
Dallas' fingers splay against his lips as if holding a phantom cigarette. "What're you doin' over here so late, huh? Was out lookin' for you."
He watches as your gaze darts to the window. Nightfall has long since kissed the apex of Tulsa, yet you hadn't a clue. You'd been there for hours, crunching equations and fruitlessly jotting down formulas. The encroaching weight of finals week had rendered both your circadian rhythm and measure of passing time nugatory.
"Borrowin' one of Darry's old textbooks," you explain, the corners of your mouth tugging into a frown. "Not exactly a monastery but it beats that old Soc-infested library, long as Two stays gone, that is."
He crosses the Curtis' living room in four smooth strides, plopping down next to you on the couch. The flimsy cushion sinks beneath him, forcing you closer to him, and for once, Dally's grateful for the pathetic old thing's lack of structural integrity.
He lifts the textbook, ignoring your whimper of protest and sets it on the coffee table. He spins the silver band on his knuckle, averting his gaze downwards. "You know, sweetheart," he pauses, choosing his words. Dally wears his worry uniquely, sparingly. "I'm not particularly likin' all of these.. these books, and.." he trails off, thumb tracing your newly-formed eyebag as if he could swipe it clean. "When's the last time you got any sleep?"
Things are different. You're his girl now. And not just his pretty skirt for the night and until 7am after; no, this is serious. You're his girlfriend. His lover. It's foreign. It's enthralling.
No one had told poor Dallas that falling for you would unwind a deep vortex in his brain that noticed the trivial things, like how suspiciously little you blinked or how the vibrant pink in your cheeks had drained.
You lean into his touch with an exasperated sigh. "Dally, c'mon, don't you start this. I know it's nothin' to you, but it's finals week!" you huff. "I'll catch up on the sleep, swear it! I just, I got so much left to do here, and,"
Your defense falls on deaf ears. This has been it for weeks now; and the you-sized hole burning in his chest is only getting deeper. Dally's arms encircle your waist as he taps gently on the small of your back. "Don't give me that," he sighs. "God, baby, you're worryin' me, alright? Don't like seeing my girl so..." he fans his hand outwards.
As you tense and start to fly into another excuse, he shakes his head, mind already made. He's sparing no more of your attention. "You're comin' back to Buck's with me, alright?" His timbre leaves no room for argument, but you squirm regardless. His grip on you tightens. "And I'm making sure you get some goddamn rest."
You pout, looking over at your textbook as if it would personify and save you. "But," you start, only to be hastily shushed.
"But nothin', doll. C'mon, up ya go,"
With that, he scoops you up, one arm hooking around your legs. Your series of half-hearted protests are nullified as he secures you into Buck's old truck, movements careful yet hasty. You inevitably surrender, a soft sigh escaping your lips as you lean back into the torn leather.
BUCK MERRIL'S HOUSE is as quiet as Buck Merril's house is capable of being. You've never been to Buck Merril's house, so you don't find it very quiet at all.
Running his hands over the blanket, Dallas spreads it out on the floor, smoothening out the crinkles and corners. They reform almost immediately and he sighs heavily, airing it out on the pummeled mattress in defeat. If he would have know he'd be conducting a full-scale kidnapping for the sake of your rest, he might have better prepared. Might have.
So, here's the thing, right?"
There have been girls in Dallas Winston's bed before.
There have been quite a few girls in Dallas Winston's bed before.
There have been zero girls in Dallas Winston's bed that he didn't bring into it with meaningless sex on the horizons.
You're no snob and he knows this, but now, it's the principle. Dallas Winston may sleep on a mattress deficient of ample springs and no top sheet, but Dallas Winston's girl should never. In spite his hazy, rose-colored, Y/N-centric world created under this roof, he knows he has to step it up.
As soon as he hears the faucet cut off, he's off his feet. He flings himself onto the mattress, hitching one leg up as he awaits the slow creek of the door.
And there you stand.
Dallas wonders what karmic debt is being paid off for him to deserve to see you like this. His lips part as he drinks in the sight of you like a man dying of thirst. You, in his lightly wrinkled grey tee that scarcely conceals your bare thighs. Your face glistens with renew, a few stray droplets racing down your forehead and cheeks. Even trammeled by exhaustion, you knock the wind right out of him.
You wear the moonlight beautifully. It traces each feature so delicately as you sit beside him on the bed. "I'm—," you start, but pause to let a little yawn. He practically melts beside you.
"I'm sorry I gave you such a tough time, darlin'," you continue, situating under the blanket. "You were right, I'm proper beat."
He smirks, propping his head up to look down on you. "As always," he notes, tucking a fly-away hair behind your ears. You roll your eyes and give him a playful jab, to which he winces in mock affliction. "Some nerve," he hums, thumb tracing your cheek.
You look at him, lips parting gently. This isn't Dallas Winston; that infamous, no-good hoodlum from the wrong side of the tracks. This is your Dally, someone you alone have the absolute pleasure of knowing.
"That's it," he whispers as you surrender to his side, nuzzling his neck. Your eyes are heavy, faltering by the second, yet your grip on him is unyielding. He's never felt a thing like this before, and he's quickly becoming putty in your careful arms. He's content to lay awake all night, watching the gentle rise and fall of your chest as slumber claims you.
His gangly fingers trace idly on your back, and he knows. He will never be the same.

Greasers Stick Together: Darry Curtis x Reader: (feat. The Curtis Gang and OC Daughter)
~~~~
Being a Greaser was tough, but it was life. You were either born into two lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma; you were born as a Greaser, living on the North side of town, the poor side of town, or you were born as a Soc. ‘Soc’ was an abbreviation for Socials. The Socs lived on the South side of town. They had the good things in life. Money, good cars, and nice houses. The Socs weren’t kind. They didn’t give their money to the Greasers. Instead, the ganged up on the Greasers when they walked alone, beating them up and making fun of them.
When you and your boyfriend Darry found out you were pregnant, you were slightly devastated. You wanted your baby to grow up with a simple life, not a life where they had to carry a blade around with them in fear of being jumped. But you decided to keep the baby either way. A few months later, you gave birth to your beautiful daughter, Anne Marie Curtis. As she grew up, she grew to know how harsh living as a Greaser could be.
~~~~
Soda and Steve threw rocks at the Socs’ car as it drove away. Johnny stayed behind. You looked down at your daughter.
“Anne, stay with Uncle Johnny, I’m gonna go check on Uncle Pony.” You said. Three year old Anne nodded and took Johnny’s hand. You raced over to your boyfriend’s brother.
“They didn't hurt you too bad, did they?” Darry asked. Ponyboy was sitting up, a little shaken up. You knelt down to Ponyboy, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, Pony. Did they pull a blade on you?” You asked, looking at the trail of blood on his neck. Ponyboy nodded.
“Yeah.” He said, his voice breaking slightly. Soda sighed and looked at his brother.
“Hey, they ain't gonna hurt you no more.” Soda said. Johnny walked over, still holding Anne’s hand. Anne let go of Johnny’s hand and ran over to Ponyboy. Ponyboy picked her up, holding her on his hip. Anne rested her head on Ponyboy’s shoulder. There were only a handful of people Anne liked being held by. Ponyboy, you, Darry, Soda, Johnny and Two-Bit.
Ponyboy walked beside Darry, Soda and you. Darry sighed in frustration.
“Walking by yourself! You don't ever think!” Darry said. Ponyboy adjusted Anne on his hip, looking at his older brother.
“All's I did was walk home from the movies.” Ponyboy defended. That didn’t seem to help his case, as Darry sighed once again.
“Movies and books. Movies and books!” Darry complained. You sighed in frustration. Darry could be harsh on his younger brother, leading the two to get into arguments often. “You know, I-I wish that you could concentrate on something else just once in a while.” Darry said. Ponyboy frowned.
“Anne likes movies and books. How come you don’t get mad at her?” Ponyboy asked. Darry sighed and rested his hands on his hips.
“Anne’s a kid, Pony. You’re a high school student. Plus, she’s my daughter.” Darry said. You sighed and walked over.
“Alright. Nope. This ain’t happening. I’m not havin’ you two argue in front of Anne again.” You said, walking over and taking Anne out of Ponyboy’s arms. Anne went with you without arguing or struggling. You sighed and shook your head, waking inside.
~~~~
Darry was cleaning up from dinner, Soda watching a movie on the couch and Ponyboy in his room doing homework. You were currently giving Anne a bath. You rinsed the conditioner out of her hair. You pulled the plug on the drain and got Anne out of the bathtub. You wrapped her in a fuzzy towel and got her dressed into her pajamas. You picked her up and carried her to her room, Anne’s head resting tiredly on your shoulder. You gently cupped the back of her head as you lowered her down, pulling the sheets back. You lay her down in bed and pulled the sheets up around her shoulders. You kissed her forehead as she closed her eyes. You turned off the light and you were about to walk out when Anne stopped you,
“Mommy.” Anne called. You walked over and sat beside her in bed.
“Yeah, baby?” You asked, brushing back her hair. Anne looked up at you.
“Why did those guys with the nice car hurt Uncle Pony?” She asked. You sighed.
“Sometimes, people are just mean to others they don’t understand.” You said. That was the best way you could describe it without going into detail.
“Will that happen to me to when I get older?” She asked. You shook your head.
“No, baby. Your daddy and I promise that we won’t let anything hurt you.” You said.
“Especially not some jerks with nice cars who think they’re better.” A familiar voice said. You looked behind you and smiled, seeing your boyfriend. Darry walked over and sat at the foot of the bed. Anne smiled at her dad.
“Daddy? Can you sing to me?” Anne asked. Darry chuckled and shook his head.
“You know I can’t sing, Pumpkin.” Darry said. He looked at you. “But mamma can.” He said. Anne looked at you with pleading eyes. You smiled.
“Alright, I’ll sing. But you gotta promise that you’ll go right to sleep.” You said. Anne nodded.
“I promise, Mommy.” Anne said. You smiled and nodded.
“Hush, little baby, don't say a word. Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird,” you began. Darry smiled as he watched you sing, your voice drifting through the room, filling up Anne’s sleepy head. “And if that mockingbird won't sing, Mamma’s gonna buy you a diamond ring. And if that diamond ring turns brass, Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass.” You could see Anne’s eyes starting to droop. “And if that looking glass gets broke, Mamma’s gonna buy you a billy goat. And if that billy goat won't pull, Papa's gonna buy you a cart and bull. And if that cart and bull turn over, Mamma’a gonna buy you a dog named Rover. And if that dog named Rover won't bark, Papa's gonna buy you a horse and cart,” though Anne had already fallen asleep, you wanted to finish the lullaby. “And if that horse and cart fall down, You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.” You finished. You and Darry pressed kisses to Anne’s head and walked out, closing the door behind you two. You sighed and Darry pulled you into a hug.
“The Gang and I won’t let anything happen to that girl, I promise,” Darry said, pressing a kiss to your head. “Greasers stick together.” He said.
~~~~
//I know, I know. This sucks. Everyone is OOC, and I apologize for that. This has been on my mind for a while, and I wanted to get it down. I hope you all like it.//

I was going to go some work on the yard, then lost the energy. Really have to wash down the pain meds with bunch of coffee to keep motivation to do extra.
I did the usual, feeding and cleaning after cats, laundry then burnt. Was gonna stop by at Brian's but no energy. Watched the Chiefs game and Tulsa King. Didn't even have energy to change the dressing but I managed. The wound looked the same. Mayy they don't heal well when you are emotionally drained.

The Significance of Regular Drain Cleaning
Oil, hair, soap scum, and food particles can all cause drains to get blocked over time. These accumulations restrict the flow of water, leading to blockages and potential backups. Here's why regular drain cleaning is important:
Preventing Clogs:You may stop blockages from developing in the first place by arranging periodic drain cleaning services. Professional plumbers have the necessary tools and expertise to thoroughly clean your drains, removing any buildup and preventing future blockages.
Improving Drainage Performance: Slow drainage is not only frustrating but also a sign of underlying issues in your plumbing system. Regular drain cleaning ensures that water flows freely through your pipes, improving the overall drainage performance and preventing water backups.
Eliminating Foul Odors: Clogged drains often emit unpleasant odors, making your living or working environment uncomfortable. Professional drain cleaning effectively removes the source of these odors, providing you with a fresh and clean atmosphere.

I would love to know how many people actually get sleep the night before a surgery. It’s 2am and I will be woken up by the nurses around 5:30 or 6am, in order to shower and start getting prepped. I will be going under the knife for my second thoracotomy. They will be doing a lobectomy on my left lung, which is a removal of one of the lobes. Hopefully this will be the last speed bump in my long recovery.
This past September, I caught a cold and went to an urgent care center to see if I actually had COVID. Test was negative, but the doctor said I had bronchitis. No big deal, right? I used to get that type of stuff all of the time when I was young. About a week later, I went in to work and had to leave about an hour later since I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I had progressively been getting worse so I assumed I had COVID and that last test wasn’t right. I went to a different urgent care, and I was immediately put on oxygen. They did a COVID test (negative) and an X-ray. The X-ray showed that my entire left lung was whited out, and said they needed to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital (only 6 miles away 🙄). While at the hospital, they put in a chest tube. The doctor had told me that they didn’t get many people needing chest tubes and I would probably be sent to a bigger hospital. That was pretty much the last thing I remember before waking up in a hospital in Tulsa, OK....6 days later.
I was so confused and still highly medicated, and started begging for them to call my mom. I also was convinced that she had sent me there for punishment, and that they had taken me into outer space to do it. I hurt everywhere, didn’t understand why there were so many manchines, etc. My mom got there and explained what she could. I had been life flighted and put on life support. I went septic and had a thoracotomy to drain and clean out that lung. I had 3 chest tubes at that point. I had lost most function of my hand. I was on life support for 6 days and was told that they didn’t think I was going to survive that first night.
I spent 20 days in, was sent home, then came back 4 days later because I couldn’t breathe. I was admitted and spent another 14 days. At least I got to spend time with my daughter on her birthday when I was home those short 4 days. Altogether during those 34 days, I had a thoracotomy, thoracentisis, 6 chest tubes, a JP tube (draining from my stomach), 256 X-rays, 1 MRI, and 30 something CTs. They diagnosed me with Necrotizing Pneumonia, Necrotizing Pancreatitis, and they found a large pseudocyst. The pseudocyst went from behind my liver, up through a hole in my diaphragm, and was pushing up against my esophagus. I was sent home with IV antibiotics and I’m now on a 24 hour one while still going to work and taking care of my kids.
Which brings us to today. I started coughing up blood on January 2. Its been a constant, all day, bright red blood anywhere from the size of a quarter to a handful if I have a coughing fit. I spent this month going back and forth to see 4 of my doctors. I had a couple of CTs, xrays, labs, and a bronchoscopy. The doctors all said everything looks great and is getting better, but my left lobe is what is causing the blood. They believe it was just damaged too much during the previous stay.
I’m ready to get this over with. I’m also dreading the pain. They will go through my same scar that goes from under my armpit, around to about an inch away from my spine. It is still very tender. I’m not looking forward to the discomfort of the tubes, the box I have to carry around, the walks you have to take while in pain, the feel of the tubes being yanked out, etc. With how sick I was, I was told it would take at least a year of recovery. I’m just hoping this is my last surgery.
Anyways, wish me luck!

Taking it one day at a time
I’ve always been one of those Christians that goes through these cycles of going to church every Sunday and being involved to completely disappearing for a couple of months. I always thought I was too sinful to go to church. Like it disqualified me from being allowed into church even though no one ever said that to me. I started my journey with Jesus at 17 years old and I had a clean slate. As I got older that changed and because I judged myself and disliked myself for the decisions I made, I thought God felt the same. I couldn’t go to his house of worship, how could I? A hypocrite could not possibly be welcome there. As time went on I projected those insecurities towards my fellow churchgoers and felt as if I didn’t belong. When that happened I would disappear for a while and hope they’d forget the person I use to be and take me as the new person I was now. A person who was really trying not to sin.
In reality, they had no idea about any of the things I had done. If they ever had suspicions they never let it show either. The truth is they loved me as my brothers and sisters in Christ. They saw me and always had good things to say to me and invited me to events with an open heart. I was the one pushing them away. I was the one putting myself out of place because I loved them too and I had allot of residual abandonment issues from my childhood. Although all of that was wrong for me to do, the worst was letting how I felt about people keep me from God. I was so caught up in the wrong things that I never opened up the bible and read it for myself until about a year and a half ago. The small church I had attended in the past was closed down and everyone went their separate ways. I was the only member of the church who attended without any family members and so felt lost and alone once again. I still wanted to know about God but I was much more wary of who I would listen to up on a pulpit. I waked away with church hurt of my own making. I didn’t want to try going to any new churches, I felt sure I would only meet the same kind of people and go through the same thing all over again.
One day someone shared a video of Elevation Church and it appeared on my Facebook feed. I watched it for a few minutes and then I went ahead and connected my phone to my living room television. I was taken in. I had never heard anyone preach like that. He was honest, he kept it real, he was funny and most importantly, the Holy Spirit told me he was telling everyone some truth. Later on I came to find out it was Lead Pastor Michael Todd from Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had only been a guest preacher at Elevation Church. And don’t get me wrong, I really like Pastor Steven Furtick too. He also hands out God’s word like Oprah does prizes but Pastor Mike’s style generally suits me better for some reason. Anyway, I entered another cycle. After watching quite a few videos of Pastor Mike and Transformation church I stopped. If I’m being honest it’s because God had gotten me another job. I felt like I should take my blessing and walk away before God realized that I was still a sinner.
Fast forward to ten months later. My grandmother, who I had taken care of my siblings and I since our mother had passed away 14 years prior, was diagnosed with cancer a third time. They didn’t know exactly where it was but they said we can assume it’s in her brain or her lungs by her symptoms. We didn’t know what to make of it. She had beat it twice before and it should have been the third time a few years back but god heard our prayers and made it disappear. Unfortunately, it did not seem we would see that kind of miracle this time. The doctors didn’t really have any answers for us and uncertainty over where it was seemed to be the most pressing issue. They scheduled her for a PET scan a month later. A PET scanner is such a rare and in demand piece of equipment they could not get her an appointment any earlier.
We tried to go on about our lives. My younger sister was graduating from law school in a little less than a week. I was set to graduate from community college a few weeks later. We have wonderful pictures of my grandmother at my sisters graduation but we weren’t able to get any of hers at mine. She watched me go up on stage and get my degree and shortly after felt too ill to stay in such a confined space any longer. She and my younger brother left to his car. Sometime between the end of my graduation and when I got home after having dinner with a couple of family friends she had collapsed and needed to be taken to the hospital.
My brother and sister had gone with her, I would stay home with my youngest brother and trade places with my siblings the next morning so they could get some rest. And that’s how we spent the next 20 days. We took turns staying at the hospital with her day and night giving each other just enough of a break to go to work or get a few hours of sleep in our beds before going to work. None of us complained, we knew it could be the very last thing we ever did for her. And it was. However, in those 20 days we experienced mercy and grace like we had never known. At some point when she went into the hospital there was too much water in her brain and it kept her from being conscious. We thought we would never hear her voice again and see her eyes open. We lived in that fear. I remember wishing I could have God hold my hand and let me now everything would be okay. I am blessed with my best friend who told me to pray.
And pray I did. I prayed, knowing I had to let God do His will and so I asked that He would please just let us talk to her one last time. See her eyes look at us and remember who we are. That I could hold her hand one more time and feel it squeeze mine. I wasn’t asking God to let me keep her, I had the feeling it was her time. All I asked was that he please let us tell her goodbye. After everything was said and done I found out my siblings had done the same, even my brother who had said he didn’t believe in God, had prayed for the same. That’s exactly what God gave us. The surgery to place a drain in her skull had gone well and she regained consciousness. When she did it felt like a miracle, a small one we knew had to be cherished while we had it. During the week she recovered at the nursing home she was discharged to recover we continued taking shifts to stay with her. My grandmother was never alone. We shared more laughs with her, looked into her eyes more often, held her hand for longer, sang with her, gave her any food she wanted, we did everything we could because we knew her recovery was a result of God’s mercy towards our family even if it did not last for long. On day 10 she went back to the hospital with a horrible headache. Everyone called off of work again and met my younger sister and grandmother at the hospital. This was it. The doctors hadn’t outright said it but they didn’t give us too much hope either, it wouldn’t have been fair. She was gone three days later.
We were lucky. We could let her go knowing she was going with God. Through that experience, though I still mourn my grandmother, I know how real God is. He showered us with his mercy, to let us really be with her for a little while longer. I was proud that my faith had grown enough to let God be God even if it hurt. Most importantly, I learned I had a wonderful father who heard me and loved me and postponed his plans to show me His mercy is real. I will never forget that and as many times as people let me tell this story I will tell it because it glorified Him and his work.
Now it is nearly a year later and the church hurt hasn’t entirely gone away. With the stay-at-home orders going on right now though it doesn’t seem to matter much. I went through multiple hobbies before I decided to watch another Transformation church video. I thought it would be one and I’d be done. One turned into two and two into three and I got to the point where I’m watching one most nights of the week. I’m falling in love with God and His word and I can’t really keep it to myself anymore. I still make mistakes but because I know God, I know they do not disqualify me from getting his love. He won’t look at me and then look away in disapproval. God loves me. So much so that He sent His one and only son to the cross just for me. I will continue to delve deeper into the word of God and prayer and try to keep myself from sinning. I still slip up here and there and I have to remember that God has already forgiven me and it is not a reason to run away and hope I’m avoiding angering Him. I will continue to take it one day at a time as a Christian woman in progress and hope that what I write will ring a bell in someone and let them know that God loves them too. He doesn’t expect us to be perfect, Jesus already paid the price for our sins, all we have to do now is go to Him with open arms and accept the gift He has already given us with each and every single one of us in mind.
