I was looking through your division of houses tag and came to the conclusion that the dragonseeds only really make sense if an overwhelming majority of houses refuse to declare for Rhaenyra. If she lacks a substantial military alliance, then she’d have to rely on dragons, right?
you know, looking back, the red sowing was a really bad idea. even if none of them proved treacherous, the targaryens gatekept access to dragons for a reason. what happens when distant illegitimate relatives get their hands on dragon eggs, distribute them amongst themselves and more of them hatch to other dragonseeds? moreover, once you arm them and hand over so much power, who's to say they won't just answer to the highest bidder?
that being said, although, dragon-wise, TB start off pretty strong and become quite formidable during the rhaenyra/laenor and daemon/laena marriages, their numbers quickly dwindle after that. so, around episode 6 we have, syrax, seasmoke, vermax, arrax, tyraxes, meleys, vhagar, caraxes, moondancer (9) vs sunfyre, dreamfyre and tessarion (3). even if many TB dragons are small or hatchlings or unhatched eggs (tyraxes?), no one knows when the actual civil war will start (if it does) and there is a lot of potential for growth there. likewise, (at that point) rhaenyra and daemon/laena can always have more children - laena herself is expecting and, had the child lived, there was a good chance of them being another dragonrider. whereas alicent's childbearing days are over. so, unless she agrees to inseminate herself with viserys' barely alive schlong, the greens have a maximum of 4 dragonriders.
then around the funeral on driftmark the situation changes significantly as seasmoke goes AWOL and vhagar changes sides: syrax, vermax, arrax, tyraxes, meleys, caraxes, moondancer (7) vs sunfyre, dreamfyre, vhagar, tessarion (4). in this context, imo the helaena/aegon hurried marriage makes a lot of sense - the greens need (and will thus acquire) three more dragons in the guise of shrykos, morghul and maelor's dragon egg (with a reasonable chance of hatching)
still rhaenyra's faction holds the upper hand, but when the actual military hostilities are underway, they are not really able to make use of their dragonpower, as they suffer further loses at the beginning of the war (with arrax and meleys) and several of their dragons are non-combatant. either because they're too young (stormcloud, moondancer, tyraxes), unhatched (morning, viserys ii's egg) or by choice (syrax). this is the advantage of being a dragon-claimer instead of a dragon-hatcher: you get a fully-grown, battle-ready dragon.
so the black fleet practically looks like this: vermax and caraxes (2) vs vhagar and tessarion (2). vhagar being the biggest and baddest dragon and tessarion proving very efficient in battle, it kind of makes sense why jace would think that acquiring more flight-ready dragons would be in his advantage. but, again, with caveats.

playing Elden Ring again to try to build up to the DLC. Turns out it is, in fact, much easier when you forgo the coolness of smolswords and dragonpowers and embrace BeegHeccinSordBild. Claymore my beloved, I will replace you with something cooler but slightly weaker one day.

i forgot to talk about it after the finale aired, but i can’t believe sunfyre is actually dead. i guess it’s possible that aegon is mistaken but i really don’t think so. if true, it’s one of the more nonsensical and unnecessary changes in canon that we’ve yet seen. the imbalance in dragonpower between team green and team black is actually comical at this point. i know hugh & ulf switch sides at some point but still.

I realized I haven't gone over how it would be from Daenerys's perspective. Victarion's meeting with Daenerys will have meaning in itself for her arc.
At the end of A Dance with Dragons, Daenerys accepted "dragons plant no trees" having reached a low point after her failed attempts to create a workable solution in Meereen, and embraced "fire and blood", using dragonpower to achieve her ends. In The Winds of Winter, she will put that into practice using Drogon to became the Stallion that Mounts the World, and unite the khals. The dragon gives her a tool none of the Dothraki can match, and like with Drogo killing Viserys with molten gold, Drogon allows her to kill in Vaes Dothrak without violating the taboo of spilling blood. As the khal of khals, Daenerys is now free to embrace fire and blood.
After she is declared the Stallion that Mounts the World, she will meet Victarion, himself a reaver and a devout adherent of the Old Way who has raided, raped and murdered without hesitation. He never had any desire to use his power to help the weak and downtrodden, but instead used it to satisfy his impulses and desires, dominating and brutalizing the weak and downtrodden and treating them as things to be used as he pleases rather than people deserving dignity. He will offer to marry her when they meet and have her be his Iron Queen. His proposal will be the offer for her to fully embrace the ethos of fire and blood, using her power to satisfy her desires and base urges without any inhibition, restraint or regard for the downtrodden and weak. She would be effectively be closing the door on her project that began in Slaver's Bay to be a Good Queen and end suffering and protect innocent life.
Of course, she will turn down his offer as she may stand at the edge of the abyss, but she will never fall in, because at the end of the day, that is not who she is. As she told Jorah in her beliefs on power:
"I was alone for a long time, Jorah. All alone but for my brother. I was such a small scared thing. Viserys should have protected me, but instead he hurt me and scared me worse. He shouldn't have done that. He wasn't just my brother, he was my king. Why do the gods make kings and queens, if not to protect the ones who can't protect themselves?"
She is victim of abuse twice over from Viserys and Drogo who was powerless throughout much of her life, and when given the chance used what little power she had to rescue a girl from being gangraped, and swore to avenge her for being raped and murdered by Jhaqo and his bloodriders. When she could have just taken the Unsullied and run, she instead chose to liberate the slaves of Slaver's Bay. At heart, Daenerys will always be that kind girl who desires justice for those who suffered like her.
Daenerys will turn down Victarion's offer. She will never embrace the Old Way, and it will never fit into her vision. Victarion will likely try to take her by force, and get the fate of every man who lays a hand on her from Viserys to Mero. Viserys was killed by Drogo, Mero by Barristan and the freedmen and Victarion may be killed by her true husband and protector, Drogon. He may be "made of iron," but even iron cannot withstand dragonflame.
Daenerys will then take his Iron Fleet (with likely help from the tigers of the Volantene fleet) that had been used to raid smallfolk and kidnap and force them into slavery, and use it to carry her people to safety from Slaver's Bay. She will stop and free the slaves of Volantis along the way along with other cities. She turned what had been a tool of violence and oppression into a tool of liberation like she did with her dragons.
Victarion had been sent by Euron to retrieve Daenerys to be his bride, but Victarion has other plans: he intends to marry Daenerys himself and become king not just of the Iron Isles but all of Westeros. Having spent his entire life being the follower serving others from his father to his brothers, and having failed to win the kingsmoot, he now takes the opportunity to become the leader.
“Where else? The dragon queen awaits me in Meereen.” The fairest woman in the world if my brother could be believed. Her hair is silver-gold, her eyes are amethysts.
-ADWD, The Iron Suitor
On wings of song I fly to you, Daenerys, the iron captain thought.
-ADWD, Victarion I
The way Victarion thinks of Daenerys is notably similar to another Westerosi suitor, Quentyn. Quentyn saw himself by his own admission as on “a grand adventure … Demon roads and stormy seas, and at the end of it the most beautiful woman in the world. A tale to tell our grandchildren” only for his plan to marry her fall flat. Victarion likewise was sent to retrieve her by his sovereign, and thinks of her as a reward at the end of his long quest.
It’s seen further in his thoughts on her.
But I shall make the dragon queen mine own. She will share my bed and bear me many mighty sons.“
-ADWD, The Iron Suitor
And Euron had not made Victarion a gift of her; the Crow’s Eye meant to take her for himself. He sends me like a serving man to fetch her. How he will howl when I claim her for myself. Let the men mutter. They had sailed too far and lost too much for Victarion to turn west without his prize.
-ADWD, Vication I
The way he refers to her as “gift” and “prize” shows how before he even meets her, he’s objectifying her. He projects his fantasies onto her as some prize or damsel in distress wanting a big, strong man to come get her to become his trad wife who gives him sons, and just goes along with what he wants without even wondering what she might want.
He’s missing some clear indicators about the abilities and person of the girl he means to marry that are pointed out by Tyrion:
"I know that she spent her childhood in exile, impoverished, living on dreams and schemes, running from one city to the next, always fearful, never safe, friendless but for a brother who was by all accounts half-mad … a brother who sold her maidenhood to the Dothraki for the promise of an army. I know that somewhere out upon the grass her dragons hatched, and so did she. I know she is proud. How not? What else was left her but pride? I know she is strong. How not? The Dothraki despise weakness. If Daenerys had been weak, she would have perished with Viserys. I know she is fierce. Astapor, Yunkai, and Meereen are proof enough of that. She has crossed the grasslands and the red waste, survived assassins and conspiracies and fell sorceries, grieved for a brother and a husband and a son, trod the cities of the slavers to dust beneath her dainty sandaled feet.”
While the submissive Vicarion was handed the Iron Fleet, Daenerys built nearly everything from the ground up. Daenerys didn’t get her dragons, her army or her city by being meek and submissive, but has shown herself to be strong, smart and resourceful and capable.
Victarion will find to his dismay when he finally meets her that Daenerys isn’t some meek, submissive damsel but someone just like his niece Asha who is a strong, proud leader (and smarter than him) not willing to subordinate her goals and ambitions to his.
He had seen the wench wed too, but what of it? She would not be the first woman Victarion Greyjoy had made a widow.
-ADWD, The Iron Suitor
But then where does he go from there? The dumb brute’s ideology is constrained by the Old Way which taught him nothing about diplomacy. What happens if she rejects his offer of marriage? Victarion likely will not give up after having come so far, and when in doubt, he would consult the Old Way or ask what Euron might do.
The Old Way taught him to take things by force, including people. Victarion has taken salt wives before, and he was even willing to kill Dany’s husband Hizdahr just so he could marry her without even taking into account her reaction to such an act, showing a clear lack of regard for her consent. I think should Daenerys make it clear that she won’t marry him freely, it would result in him trying to marry her by force.
"In the Seven Kingdoms, there are tales of dragons who grew so huge that they could pluck giant krakens from the seas.”
That, of course, won’t end well for him. While “at sea the kraken rules supreme,” in the Dothraki Sea, the dragon reigns supreme. His attempts at courting Daenerys will likely end the same way Quentyn’s did as the dragon Daenerys named in the spirit of the husband who protected her, Drogon, will likely deal with this troublesome suitor.
The deeply misogynistic Victarion who abducted women as salt wives and beat them to death for being raped by his brother, dies at the hands of a woman he tries to take by force. Daenerys herself ends up taking his Iron Fleet after having paid the Iron Price of Victarion.
Thus is the fate of any Greyjoy who strives for a crown.

there is a pretty simple way rhaenys' support for the blacks could have been explained in-universe. rhaenyra may have made a mockery of house velaryon, but, at the end of the day, daemon still has baela & rhaena. rhaenys could not, in good conscience, join the opposing side to her granddaughters.
similarly, baela and rhaena (though they should feel rightfully ticked off by being cheated out of driftmark) could not, in all honesty, join the side opposing their father. as flawed as daemon is as a character, he is still their father and that parent-child bond is not so easily dismantled. even when/if the relationship is toxic, expecting someone to renounce their parent is a big ask. but they should 100% feel conflicted about this.
it would have been more interesting to portray rhaenys/baela/rhaena as half-hearted "allies" of rhaenyra, not truly believing in her, given her proven hypocrisy and recent actions that negatively impacted them, but "stuck" on her side - even that choice taken from them.
they could even have kept rhaenys' ridiculous feminist lecture to alicent, as a way to showcase rhaenys' very own hypocrisy and failings, but later point out that her that it truly does bother her how her life turned out.
i suppose there is a little bit of that in the fact that she withholds declaring for rhaenyra straight away after she lands on dragonstone and raises her eyebrows when daemon so casually counts meleys among "their" dragons. so there is that element of her having to be "convinced".
at the end of the day, rhaenys refused to claim her birthright by conquest. she had dragonpower and military capabilities + financial resources provided by her husband to sustain a war of succession, if necessary. but she acquiesced to the decision of the great council in 101. that's not bad or weak or cowardly by any means. she accepted this (incipient & very limited) democratic exercise and conformed to the wishes of the majority, even if the decision was unfair and misogynistic.
but now rhaenyra is doing the opposite. she has been rejected by the system via a fait accompli and now wishes to wrangle the throne back by violence. rhaenys wasn't willing to fight for her own claim, but now fights for rhaenyra's? there is conflict here! there are a lot of themes you could reasonably explore! very rich, fertile lands for a writer!
this isn't something that cannot be remedied in season 2. have them fight! sow some dissent! point out how rhaenyra and daemon take rhaenys & her granddaughters for granted! it would be way more fun this way!

So how come I've heard nothing about this crossover between @dndwizards and @nerf? If this isn't used as a means to bring back the nerf melee weapons I'll be very disappointed. #dnd #nerf #dragonpower https://www.instagram.com/p/CSR9UsYrNKC/?utm_medium=tumblr

This book will help the reader understand what is the basis for these powers before going into a full review of each one. Like most of my books, I take the reader through some background material before I get into the meat of the subject. In this case we start by reviewing the original source of God Like abilities “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali”, and how these abilities and powers work. #godlike #godpower #godman #psychicabilities #psychic #dragonball #anime #yoga #dragonpower #evolution (at God's Universe) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTpOllohaeG/?utm_medium=tumblr

Daemon absolutely did wrong with B&C. Because he shouldn't have killed Jaehaerys.
He should have killed the enemy combatant in the room.
Because you know who was an actual grown adult?
Helaena.
Who let herself be crowned? Who accepted the title of Queen and showed her complicity every time she answered to "Your Grace?"
Helaena.
Who actively took part in the book!councils enough to say, "hey, while we're usurping our sister's throne, there's a good chance she has more support than us so maybe we should generously ask her for the throne she has more support for before we try to murder her?
Helaena.
Most importantly, who rode what was, at the time, the second oldest bonded war dragon?
Helaena.
And I'm kinda of getting sick of this whole “Helaena was innocent” narrative.
When a house or a person declares for Team Green. Or worse, they accept the title of Queen of Team Green, they become the enemy of Team Black. You are supporting Aegon's claim to the throne, you're claiming Rhaenyra's title as Queen, and are therefore the enemy.
When Helaena CHOSE to answer to attend that "coronation." When she CHOSE to answer to Your Grace. When she chose to occupy the Red Keep and remain there as the implicit threat that should Rhaenyra press her claim, she would mount her massive war dragon, she was declared an enemy of Team Black.
Her death, and I don't just mean the decision to jump, was a consequence of her own actions.
Your own Action 🤝 Your own Consequence
If Helaena had refused to attend the coronation, refused to answer to Your Grace, had made it publicly known that she would not fight on her massive war dragon and Team Black had just decided to kill her, then yes she would’ve been innocent.
But that’s not the case.
Her massive war dragon was a big reason the Blacks couldn't safely put a stop to the coup right away. Her massive war dragon gave Aemond enough false confidence (because it was false. because when the ravens returned the greens were in for a surprise that really shouldn't have been a surprise) to attack an envoy not even grown.
She's not the only person responsible for his death. She's not the most responsible. But Luke's blood is still on her hands.
Stop comparing Helaena: grown ass queen on a grown ass war dragon to Luke the minor on a baby dragon and claiming that she's somehow more innocent than he was. She wasn’t.
And even if you want to try to convince yourself that her show!version still had no idea what was happening. Doesn't matter. If the enemy is using the threat of force against you, to prevent you from claiming what's yours, you don't ask yourself "but what if the grown ass pilot for their second largest air bomber doesn't understand what she's doing?!"
Luke was a minor even by the standards of that world. He would never be safe had he defected to the faction of the woman who spent his entire life dehumanizing him, teaching her children to dehumanize him, nearly killed him, and assaulted his mother while trying. He doesn’t get to choose who he supports, and yet ends up being murdered by his uncle who felt emboldened in part by the dragonpower behind his cause.
If you're going to protest that “There was no reason to execute Queen Helaena the enemy combatant,” by using the inconvenient fact that she posed a viable threat, even if she did not think of it that way, you need to open your eyes to the reality of the show, which is that regardless of how much you love that grown ass character, it does not make her innocent.
I don’t care how "cute" she comes across to you.
She chose her side, and died for it. However HotD wants to play fast and loose with numbers, she was undeniably a grown ass queen mature enough to understand that. I’m not saying she definitively deserved to be executed, but I won’t be out here claiming she’s innocent when she’s not.
Jaehaerys Targaryen will be murdered in House of the Dragon. He is innocent, but will be killed because he is associated with Team Green. He will be killed as an act of “revenge” because of a situation Helaena chose to put herself and her children in. He is not responsible for any bad blood between Team Green or Team Black, nor is he responsible for the actions of Aegon or Aemond.
But Helaena is. So yes, it's unfair that it was him and not her. It's actually a little stupid on Daemon's part.
In fact, part of me wonders, what if B&C were simply there to justifiably execute "Queen" Helaena: enemy combatant?
What if Jaehaerys panicked and attacked the men acting on the queen's behalf? Daggers are commonly carried after all. And what if B&C were torn about what to do, but then looked at Alicent and remembered the precedent she set:
Children are NOT innocent just because they're children.
What if Blood was just following her example?
Tragic.
Kind of getting sick of this whole “Lucerys was innocent” narrative and that B&C is justified because of Luke’s death.
When a house or a person declares for Team Black, they become the enemy of Team Green. You are supporting Rhaenyras claim to the throne against Aegons and therefore seen as the enemy.
When Lucerys CHOSE and volunteered to fly (because they would be faster than ravens) to Storms end in an attempt to gain support for Rhaenyra, he was declared an enemy of Team Green. His death was a consequence of his own action.
Your own Action 🤝 Your own Consequence
If Luke had refused to go in person, and Team Green had just decided to kill him, then yes he would’ve been innocent. But that’s not the case.
Stop comparing Lucerys to Jaehaerys and claiming that it was a fair exchange. It wasn’t.
Jaehaerys is six years old, probably has no clue what the hell is even going on, he doesn’t get to choose who he supports, and ends up being murdered for something his uncle did.
So people protesting the “there was no reason to kill Jaehaerys” by using Lucerys death as a fair reason, need to open their eyes to the reality of the show, which is that regardless of how much you loved that character, it does not make them innocent to everything.
I don’t care how cute he comes across to you. He chose his side, and died for it. He was mature enough to understand that by 13-14 years old. I’m not saying he definitively deserved to be murdered, because I don’t think he did, but I won’t be out here claiming he’s innocent when he’s not.
———
A justification I am also seeing a lot now, is that “well Jaehaerys is team green by default because he’s Aegons son”
Myrcella Lannister was murdered in Game of Thrones. She was innocent but was killed because she was associated with the Lannisters. She was killed as an act of “revenge” because Oberyn was killed in a situation he chose to put himself in. She was not responsible for any bad blood between the Martells and Lannisters, nor was she responsible for the actions of Cersei or Joffrey.
Jaehaerys Targaryen will be murdered in House of the Dragon. He is innocent, but will be killed because he is associated with Team Green. He will be killed as an act of “revenge” because Lucerys was killed in a situation he chose to put himself in. He is not responsible for any bad blood between Team Green or Team Black, nor is he responsible for the actions of Aegon or Aemond.
So stop with this ridiculousness. What’s to come is not right, it is not justified in any way shape or form, and it will be devastating and sad.
