#Dragon centaur

Centaur designs! Specifically dragon-centaurs. It's an extemely interesting species concept imo but I don't find much about them online. So here's my thoughts! [Rambling below] ->

I wanted to keep the lower body and legs about the same length (I tend to draw legs super long tbh) for a more balanced stance and profile. The wings sit in front of the arms in flight, with the muscles kinda bunched up like a cusion when folded or at rest. I think it'd help prop the abdomen up a little more, although the abdominal muscles of the "human" half are modified and re-positioned to adapt. The god of planking.

Wings talons/hands are at the wrist of the wings because the thought of wing hands are super cool and hot and have a lot of potential. The total limb count (wings are only one set of modified arms, tail wings are heavily modified vertebrae) would add up to 8, legally making them a spider. Limb size and shape and whatnot varies as much as you want, but I chose mine to be leggy, making them fast runners. I think flight-wise they'd be slower, but they'd make up for it with extreme maneuverability and control. Mid-flight combat is def something I wanna draw or animate with them

New oc drop! His name is Leif

I was scrolling through Pinterest, saw a dragon centaur, and decided I needed one so this lil guy was born!

He's super shy, prefers being alone. Has dark green scales to blend into the forest. He has incredible night vision but has trouble seeing during the day. His wings are too small to carry him for long. He mostly uses them to glide.

I have been working on this dragon centaur for like TWO MONTHS. And I am finally satisfied with her design. I will probably adjust her anatomy later on. My apologizes if her muscle and hind legs look very odd. It is very difficult to find really good references on the internet... ugh. If anyone wants to draw her, feel free to. Just let me know.

Besides not having a name at this time. Some interesting facts about her:

She is a retired dragon warrior.

During her retirement days she has learned to cook, clean, and sew clothes. She is also a blacksmith and continues to make weapons for anyone interested.

Has always wanted to be a mom, so she has adopted three daughters. Two of them were delivered to her by fate, the other daughter that she is close with. She has been with her dragon mom for a long time, but this daughter does not know that they are Not blood related. Dragon mom does not know when the time is right to tell her.

Very defensive against other monsters and humans that might cause harm to her or her daughters.

Alright, the difference of Dragon Hybrids, Centaurs and Dragonians

(In my little made up world)

Dragon Hybrids

These guys are like your everyday hybrids, they have wings tails and horns and the ears of a dragon and tend to be your everyday giant winged lizard, nothing special. If they are born with little wings they have little wings and their scales aren’t worth much since they aren’t very strong and they don’t tend to shed their scales.

Dragon centaurs

These guys tend to be wingless dragons like Chinese dragons and arctic dragons. They have more of a nesting and hoarding instinct when compared to Dragon Hybrids though both hail from Spartica. They also are just generally big, rarely being shorter than 5’8” and weighing well over 230lbs.

Dragonians

These guys are from the country of Draconia and are are only similar to Dragon Hybrids in that they have wings, tails, ears and horns. Everything else is different.

Dragonians are more cool coloured then Dragon hybrids and very few can actually breathe fire. They can change the size of their wings for comfort and some (mostly the royal family) can shape shift into a dragon. They shed their scales and even though they are virtually worthless in Draconia they inflate the prices for sales to tourists and exports. Their scales are strong like an actual dragon’s and, when polished, iridescent. They are sought after for armour and jewelry.

So, after 2 months of working on it... I FINISHED MY DRAGON AND CENTAUR PAINTING!

It was a tough one as it's pretty big (31x11 inches, I think) and there were ups and downs along the way. But... I finished it.

Then... I scanned it in.

Then... I started adding some things DIGITALLY that I was too afraid to try on the finished painting.

First... I added snow.

And... I kinda l liked it.

Then... (this is the tough one)... I added heat distortion around the dragon's mouth. (like the air's so hot it's distorting the image of the trees behind).

And... I kinda liked that too.

I posted a video about it and overwhelmingly everyone liked the digital enhancements.

So... I'm going to make the poster with this one. Not the original.

And normally... this would have bothered me. I would have felt that the original was "more true to my art", but... BOTH of these are "my art".

There's nothing wrong with adding something digitally if you don't feel comfortable doing it traditionally.

There's no "right or wrong" in art. There's no "cheating".

And despite me saying this to others every day... sometimes I need to remind myself about this too.

If you like painting traditionally but there are some things you feel more confident doing DIGITALLY? Scan that traditional art in and DO IT DIGITALLY!
