I'll be answering these for my Rook, Quinn Ingellvar! All answers are below the cut, tysm if you read through this! I highly encourage you to go reblog one of the blank versions I linked up above <3

When did your mage’s magic first manifest?

Seven years old, earlier then most. They were raised in an orphanage in Nevarra City until their magic manifested, at which point the Mourn Watch showed up to take them under their wing.

Did they try to keep it a secret from their family/close friends?

At first they hid it, a little scared of what it was able to do, but ended up spilling it in tears to the caregiver in charge of the orphanage after scaring themselves over it.

Has their magic ever hurt anyone by mistake?

Surprisingly not. The Mourn Watch did well teaching control in regards to magic, and Quinn was a naturally anxious kid so they took the teaching to heart.

Which spells came naturally and which were more difficult to learn?

Even though Quinn mainly uses necrotic spells, cold spells are the type to come naturally to them. Electric is harder, but not the worst, whereas fire spells are close to impossible for them to learn without rigorous study.

What is their favourite spell?

Winter's Grasp, specifically because they mastered it to trip the students that sat in front of them that wouldn't shut up during classes. The students always blamed them, but it could never be proven.

Do they put a lot of time into studying magic?

Absolutely. While they have a hard time sitting and paying attention for long periods of time, they were often in the top 3 students of their classes and, even during their time in the Veilguard, spent a lot of their downtime studying.

What attracted them to their specialization?

Simple; the fact it was taught by the Mourn Watch.

How does your mage get along with other mages?

Honestly, not that well surprisingly, though not through any fault of their own. Mages from other countries just don't understand necromancy like those in Nevarra, so much so that they're sometimes equated to those blood mages in Tevinter (something that actually made Quinn mad when it happened when traveling with Varric and Harding).

Does your mage have any sympathy for Templars?

Yes. Raised in Nevarra Quinn doesn't have a negative relationship with their Templars like those in the South.

Do they consider magic a blessing or a curse?

Definitely a blessing.

'varric's vibe when you pick the 'I'm worried' option after he asks you how you feel about having solas in your head is so fucking funny. the very careful 'so, uh, just... out of casual interest why -- why aren't you putting wards on yourself and your mind to keep him out, and incidentally exactly how might you do it if you did. no reason why I'm asking just. curious. I have no stance on this' probing of it all (that should be the giveaway in itself, really, in hindsight I think real varric would be a lot more freaked out on rook's behalf about this even if he might still have reached the conclusion that the connection to solas was worth the risk, he's got kirkwall blood magic trauma to fill a telephone catalogue). that and the '>:) then I see you've made a choice (so this is basically a little bit on you now, you got fairly outsmarted etc., I don't have to feel as guilty thank you for having youthful hubris that will be your undoing so I can feel less bad about my role in it). honestly if anything I'm doubling down on my previous 'mind!varric is directly controlled by solas the majority of the time and rook's mind is mostly a collaborateur' post. this conversation is transparently solas gathering intel and giving you the 101 on leadership while you're building a small focused rebel force.

in solas' defense... this whole situation is very very funny in an extremely dark kind of way he is nothing if not on brand. the stuff he says about himself in this conversation is like. he's both reading himself for filth AND he can't read all of a sudden he can't uh......... he has plenty of self-insight (a single flower with blackened petals) and it helps him exactly not at all in breaking his patterns lmao

also it makes the relationship between solas and rook so. so much. what an insane intimacy in grieving for someone so much you both conspire to raise him from the dead together, just for a little while, because neither of you can bear to let go. what a violation in being the only knowing party in that. solas can hear rook following through on relaying his apology to 'varric' no matter what else they think of him. and he still does what he does to them in the end. he's feeding them affection (some of it even real eventually, I think, he clearly respects rook as a pure agent of chaos on some level and has some incredulous amused fondness for them no matter how you end up in your relationship with him) and confidence with one hand, and readying a knife in the other the whole time. solas my love my friend my genuine darling I think I will have to strangle you unfortunately

do u perchance have an idea of how husk would speak? or could u give examples of greetings (hated/neutral/friendly/romanced)? just trying to get an idea of his dialogue

His speech is difficult to understand on a good day but lucky for you he tends to use clipped phrasing and is very conservative with his words. Silence is generally his preference.

His breathing is accompanied by a raspy hiss that escalates into a full on unearthly screech during battle.

Sometimes if he gets too emotional or angry he will lose the capability of speech altogether and devolve into *darkspawn noises* (essentially think back to any dragon age game during battle with them) It takes him a moment to compose himself and he's ashamed about it every time.

He's generally only a half step away from going feral at any given provocation.

Greetings:

Hated: Husk's one eye raises at your approach, his teeth clack angrily together, a hiss slipping between them. "Speak, wretch."

Neutral: Husk regards you warily. "That's close enough."

Friendly: He is sure to keep his mask in place and gloves on. He glances over you for injury. "You yet live. There is work to be done."

Romanced: Husk notes your approach with his full attention. He sways closer when you come near, hands twitching as if resisting to touch. "My only," he mumbles, eye cast away now that you are before him. "What do you need?"

Do not fear...butchsma is still alive and well. After trespasser she loses a lot of her hair (she sustained a pretty bad head injury) and when it starts growing back she likes to keep it short - I'm still playing with her design but I imagine she starts drifting into more masculine styles. She lives mainly in my sketches and unfinished work folder bc I can't decide what I want to do

unfortunately they didn't (my Tabris is pretty shy when it comes to those things) but-

I take it it's already pretty difficult for Rin to go anywhere with his dad being all over the place already (sigh)
