Wicked: Singapore April 22nd, 2012 Cast- Zoe Jarrett (understudy Elphaba), Suzie Mathers (Glinda), David Harris (Fiyero), Anne Wood (Madame Morrible), Elisa Colla (Nessarose), James D Smith (Boq), Glen Hogstrom (u/s The Wizard) At just over 2 hours long, this is missing a few sequences, but all the big numbers and memorable dialogue scenes are intact. It’s shot from the very front row of the stalls at the side so, although this causes a lot of problems for the brave person who filmed it, we DO get many nice close-ups and a chance to see the show from quite an unusual angle at times! Very clear sound throughout.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield-studie BMR Vaccinatie

“De meeste mensen zijn er niet van op de hoogte dat de (zogenaamd ontkrachtte) 'Wakefield-studie', waaruit ('onjuist') naar voren kwam dat vaccins (en met name het BMR-vaccin) autisme kunnen veroorzaken, een teamresultaat was.

Dokter Andrew Wakefield was wel de 'senior wetenschappelijk onderzoeker' van de studie, maar slechts één van de drie voornaamste auteurs, en er waren ook nog 10 mede-auteurs. Met andere woorden was dit was het product van een groep hoog opgeleide en gerenommeerde individuen, en niet iets dat zomaar door iemand alleen is gedaan. Wie waren al die andere mensen?

Dus waarom is het alleen Andy Wakefield waarover we horen? Waarom is hij de zondebok? Nou, één antwoord is: Nadat het stuk in 'The Lancet' was gepubliceerd, werd hij in het openbaar gevraagd of hij verder gebruik van het BMR vaccin (mazelen, de bof, rode hond) nog zou aanraden. Dr. Wakefield antwoordde van niet, maar dat hij het gebruik van het enkelvoudige dosis mazelen vaccin (dus niet de gecombineerde versie) daarvoor in plaats zou aanraden... gewoon voor de zekerheid.

Het was waarschijnlijk dat antwoord dat hem onmiddellijk tot prooi maakte van het reusachtige farmaceutische bedrijf 'SmithKline Beecham' (nu 'GlaxoSmithKline'), die het BMR-vaccin in het Verenigd Koninkrijk heeft gemaakt en verkocht. Media-gigant Rupert Murdoch en zijn familie hadden toen net een financieel belang in dat bedrijf, en één van zijn zonen, James, zat zelfs in de raad van bestuur.

Oh, had ik al verteld dat de familie Murdoch 'The Sunday Times of London' bezat, die de verslaggever Brian Deer had gecontracteerd om een reeks lasterlijke artikelen over Dr. Wakefield te schrijven? Nou, dat deden ze. De redacteur van The Sunday Times was toen een man genaamd Paul Nuki, die Deer aannam. Oh, en heb ik al gezegd dat Nuki de zoon was van prof. George Nuki, die toevallig een lid was van een autotiteit over vaccin licenties in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, toen het BMR-vaccin in het eind van de jaren tachtig in het land werd geïntroduceerd? Maar natuurlijk wordt dat gedeelte van het verhaal nooit verteld door journalisten, tv-commentatoren, artsen, verpleegkundigen, volksgezondheidsambtenaren, wetgevers, enz. Meer dan waarschijnlijk zijn ze gewoon onwetend en te lui of niet nieuwsgierig genoeg om een klein beetje te graven.

En zo zijn dus we vastgelopen (voorlopig in ieder geval) met het slechte verhaal van de 'ontkrachtte studie' van de 'bedriegende dokter'. Tenminste, totdat we genoeg mensen hebben met hoog intellectueel karakter, morele kracht, en een halve ruggengraat, die in de posities van macht en invloed het goede kunnen doen, het verhaal kunnen repareren, en met ongenoegen de waarheid kunnen vertellen."

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Follows Man Who Lived Long Enough to ‘Become the Villain’

Not everyone can die a hero. Christopher Nolan emphasized that point by even taking the mask away from Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy, proving Bruce Wayne knows how to make an entrance and then be smart enough to plan an exit strategy. Exits proved vital to other Nolan projects as well, including the searing Dunkirk, a World War II epic highlighting the heroism of the common foot soldier and the British evacuation of France. Now his next movie will also be set during WWII, but it’s about an extraordinary man, who never forgave himself for building the weapon that ended the war, J. Robert Oppenheimer. There may be few historical figures who’d more readily wear Harvey Dent’s line, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

“I have become death, the destroyer of worlds,” the real Oppenheimer once said, quoting from The Bhagavat Ghita in an interview about creating the atom bomb. Nolan’s film will focus on the genius scientist’s role in its development. As a young man, Oppenheimer distinguished himself as a student under J. J. Thomson, who had been awarded the 1906 Nobel Prize in Physics for detecting the electron. After the start of World War II, Oppenheimer was invited by the Office of Scientific Research and Development (OSRD) to take over work on neutron calculations at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, also known as Berkeley Lab, which was struggling against the clock to develop an atomic bomb.

As the war and development progressed, the scientists needed more space. President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the formation of the Manhattan Project on Dec. 28, 1942. Also known as Project Y, the Manhattan Project was formally established on Jan. 1, 1943. Oppenheimer was appointed scientific director. He directed the construction of the laboratories at Los Alamos and brought together the best minds in physics to solve theoretical and mechanical issues. Over 3,000 people worked on the project, including Albert Einstein, who first presented the military potential of an uncontrolled fission chain reaction to Roosevelt in the summer of 1939.

The first nuclear explosion was executed at a site on the Alamogordo air base, 120 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico, July 16, 1945. Oppenheimer named it “Trinity,” and it had the explosive power of 20,000 tons of TNT. One month later, the bomb was used twice on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

Those nuclear explosions ended the war, but Oppenheimer had mixed feelings. There is, after all, a physics laboratory named after him at the Ethical Culture Society School where Oppenheimer enrolled in September 1911. Founded by Dr. Felix Adler as an outgrowth of American Reform Judaism, the society concentrated on social justice, civic responsibility, and secular humanism. After the war, Oppenheimer lobbied for international arms control as an advisor of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). The Soviet Union detonated an atomic bomb in 1949. Oppenheimer strongly opposed work on developing the hydrogen bomb.

The FBI had files on Oppenheimer, including a report of a January or February 1943 meeting where he heard about colleagues who were solicited for nuclear secrets by a shell oil employee on behalf of the Soviet Union. Oppenheimer failed to report it until August. The FBI furnished Oppenheimer’s files to his enemies. On Nov. 7, 1953, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover received a letter from William Liscum Borden, former executive director of Congress’ Joint Atomic Energy Committee, accusing Oppenheimer of being “an agent of the Soviet Union,” based on “11 years of minute surveillance.” The theoretical physicist’s phones were tapped, his office and home were bugged, and his mail was opened.

Oppenheimer’s security clearance was revoked 32 hours before it was set to expire in June 1954. Edward Teller, “the father of the hydrogen bomb,” dredged up old Communist sympathies in testimony to the Oppenheimer Security Hearing in Washington. Army Counterintelligence knew about Oppenheimer’s associations with Communist Party USA members, which included his wife, when he was made director of the Los Alamos Laboratory in 1942, and when he became chairman of the General Advisory Committee of the AEC in 1947. The revocation stripped the renowned scientist of political power and made him a boogeyman during the height of the Red Scare.

In the fallout of his public exile from American government life, Oppenheimer established the World Academy of Art and Science in 1960, along with Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russell, and Joseph Rotblat. The scientific community never forgave the government for its treatment of Oppenheimer, and much of the findings of the committee were shot down under later scrutiny. Partially to right these wrongs, President Lyndon B. Johnson honored the scientist with the Atomic Energy Commission’s Enrico Fermi Award in 1963. Oppenheimer died of throat cancer in 1967.

Christopher Nolan is a courageous director who has never stopped taking risks, even after achieving mainstream success. A Nolan film is a brand, like a Martin Scorsese movie or a Hitchcock picture. Nolan is an auteur, writing and completely controlling every aspect of his films. From Memento to Inception, he has never stopped challenging audiences, nor has he ever pandered to them. Tenet was released while the pandemic was at its height and the film still grossed $363 million. Nolan is probably one of the few directors with the guts to make a bomb. The 1989 Manhattan Project drama Fat Man and Little Boy was blasted by critics and ignored by audiences, even with Paul Newman starring in it.

Nolan is best telling human stories with strong characters who are troubled by epic challenges and moral conundrums. Oppenheimer challenged and second-guessed his greatest achievements until the day he died, and seems like a natural choice to lend himself to Nolan’s recurring series of troubled protagonists.

This upcoming biopic has the power to set things right, and redefine how history paints the necessary ambivalence of scientists at war. Oppenheimer was called “the father of the Atom bomb.” He should have demanded a paternity test and be known as the founding father of the American school of theoretical physics.

The Tide Line – winning concept for Reimagining Butler’s Wharf competition revealed

3rd of December 2020 – The Tide Line – an evocative landscape designed by Ludwig Willis Architects with Structure Workshop and Howard Miller Landscape and Design – has been revealed as the winning concept in the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) and Butler’s Wharf Riverside Trust’s ‘Reimagining Butler’s Wharf’ competition.

The competition is a key stage towards the long-term transformation of Butler’s Wharf, Shad Thames – one of London’s most popular riverside spaces. The LFA and Butler’s Wharf Riverside Trust invited architects, landscape architects, designers and artists to consider how to unlock the site’s waterfront potential as an imaginative and engaging space for all, bringing visitors, Londoners and the local community back together on this historic jetty.

The Tide Line is inspired by the edge of the River Thames at Butler’s Wharf, where layers of ecology, history and access are revealed and concealed by the daily rhythms of the tide. The team have reimagined the jetty as a riparian landscape tracing along the mean low tide mark: watermen’s stairs become places of vantage and orientation, while masts placed along the length of the jetty recall its heritage and act as armatures for wayfinding and lighting. Along the deck, planters are filled with flora specific to the Thames and irrigated by the river using integrated low-energy solutions.

The Tide Line has been conceived to augment the island character of the Butler’s Wharf jetty, providing a breathing space from the bustling city silhouetted to the west and affording sanctuary for health, well-being and resilience as the river winds east.

The concept will now be developed through an inclusive design process that reviews feedback from stakeholders and the local community, exploring themes of environment and ecology, and responding to questions about maintenance and deliverables.

As a local practice based in Southwark, Ludwig Willis overcame competition from over 50 teams, and impressed the expert jury panel which included Paul Zara (director, Paul Zara Architects), Sarah Gaventa (director of the Illuminated River Foundation), Johanna Gibbons (partner, J & L Gibbons), David Ogunmuyiwa (principal, ArchitectureDoingPlace and Mayor’s Design Advocate), Dr Emma Sanderson-Nash (chair, Butler’s Wharf Riverside Trust), Ruth Slavid (journalist and editor) and Tamsie Thomson (managing director, New London Architecture).

ভেলরের CMC হাসপাতালের ডা: এপোয়েন্টমেন্টে এর বিস্তারিত, অভিজ্ঞ ডা: এর নামের তালিকা, ফি এবং সময় বিস্তারিত জানুন। আজই বুকিং দিন। সঠিক তথ্য দেওয়ার জন্য আমরা চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছি। আমরা বিজনেস করছি কিন্তু মানুষকে ট্যুরস রিলেটেড ও CMC, Sangkar Nethralaya হাসপাতালের এর সঠিক তথ্য দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছি। আমাদের পেজে যখন ই কোন পোষ্ট পাব্লিশ করা হয় তা প্রচুর সময় নিয়ে এবং সঠিক তথ্য এবং বাস্তব ভিত্তিক জ্ঞান নিয়ে সেটাই পোষ্ট আকারে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছি। আজ আপনাদের ইন্ডিয়ার মাদ্রাজ এর পাশে ভেলর অবিস্থিত যেখানে বিখ্যাত CMC ( Christian Medical College) হাসপাতাল অবস্থিত। এই হাসপাতালের খুঁটিনাটি বিষয় তুলে ধরার চেষ্টা করছি। ��েলর মুলত তামিল নাড়ু রাজ্যের একটি জেলা যা চেন্নাই সিটির পাশে (মাদ্রাজ) অবস্থিত। চেন্নাই সিটি থেকে প্রায় ১৪৫ কি.মি. দূরে অবস্থিত। ভেলর সিটি মুলত CMC হাসপাতালের জ��্য বিখ্যাত যা এশিয়া মহাদেশের মধ্যে অন্যতম হাসপাতাল হিসেবে পরিচিত। চেন্নাই থেকে ট্রেনে যেতে মাত্র ১ ঘণ্টা ৪০ মিনিটের মত সময় লাগে আর লোকাল ট্রেনে গেলে ৩ ঘন্টার মত সময় লাগবে। আর হাওড়া থেকে সরাসরি ভেলরের ট্রেন আছে আর সময় লাগে প্রায় ২৮ ঘণ্টা যেমন HWH YPR EXP, HUMSAFAR EXP যাইহোক আজ সিএমসি হাসপাতালের ম্যাক্সিমাম ডিপার্টমেন্ট এবং ডা:দের নামের তালিকা আলোচনা করা হচ্ছে: CMC হাসপাতালে ১০০+ ডিপার্টমেন্ট আছে এবং ডা: আছে ১০০০+ তাহলে বুঝতেই পারছেন কি রকম বিজি হাসপাতাল। ভেলরের এই হাসপাতালে প্রতি বছর ১০ লাখের উপরে বিভিন্ন যায়গা থেকে রোগী যেয়ে থাকে যেমন বাংলাদেশ, শ্রীলংকা, আবুধাবি, দুবাই, ভুটান এবং আরো অনেক দেশ থেকে যেয়ে থাকে চিকিৎসা নিতে তবে বাংলাদেশ ও কলকাতার রোগীর সংখ্যা সবচেয়ে বেশি যেয়ে থাকে। সি এম সি হাসপাতালকে বলা হয় এশিয়া মহাদেশের চিকিৎসার কারখানা। এখানে চিকিৎসা পদ্ধতি ধীর গতির কিন্তু চিকিৎসার মান খুব ভালো। প্রচুর পরিমাণে রোগী হওয়াতে চিকিৎসা সেবা ধীর গতির এবং অভিজ্ঞ ডা:দের সিরিয়াল পেতে বেশ বেগ পেতে হয়। যারা সি এম সি তে ডা:দেখানোর চিন্তা করছেন তাদেরকে মিনিমাম ২৫/৩০ দিন আগে অভিজ্ঞ ডা:এর আ্যপয়েন্টমেন্ট নিয়ে রাখা উচিত নতুবা ভেলরে গিয়ে ৭/১০ দিন থাকা লাগবে শুধু ডা:এর সিরিয়াল নেওয়ার জন্য। সমস্যা হচ্ছে Dr. Appointment letter নিয়ে মানে যারা মেডিকেল ভিসা করতে চাচ্ছেন তাদেরকে ওই হাসপাতালের Dr. Appointment লেটার + BD. Dr এর রেফারেন্স লেটার পাসপোর্ট এর সাথে জমা দিয়ে মেডিকেল ভিসার জন্য এপ্লাই করতে হয় এবং ভিসাও পেয়ে যায়। এটা ছাড়া মেডিকেল ভিসা আপনাকে দিবে না। কিন্তু CMC হাসপাতালের এপোয়েন্টমেন্ট লেটার পাওয়া খুব কঠিন কিন্তু আপনাদের কথা চিন্তা করে BDindi Traverra এই সার্ভিস টি নিয়ে হাজির হয়েছে। মাত্র ১৩২০ টাকায় ডাঃফি +সার্ভিস ফিসহ দিয়ে আপনার এপোয়েন্টমেন্ট টি আজই নিয়ে রাখুন আর দ্রুত ভিসা করতে দিন। #CMC Hospital এ কি কি রোগের ডিপার্টমেন্ট আছে তার পুরো লিস্ট দেখুন: 1. Asked to select his choice of the greatest modern and future wonders, the electrical wizard refused to accept the popular notion of what is wonderful. His reply led to an onslaught on scientists and the popular science community.

“To the popular mind, any manifestation resulting from any cause will appear wonderful if there is no perceptible connection between cause and effect. For instance, through the means of wireless telephone speech is carried to opposite points of the globe. To the vast majority this must appear miraculous. To the expert who is familiar with the apparatus and sees it in his mind’s eye the result is obvious. It is exactly as though visible means existed to which the impetus is transmitted.

“As I revolve in my mind the thoughts in answer to your question I find the most wonderful thing is the utter aberration of the scientific mind during the last twenty five years. In that time the relativity theory [Albert Einstein], the electron theory [J. J. Thomson], the quantum theory [Max Planck, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Erwin Schrödinger, Arthur Compton, Paul Dirac, Wolfgang Pauli], the theory of radioactivity [Marie Curie] and others have been worked out and developed to an amazing degree. And yet probably not less than 90 per cent of what is thought today to be demonstrable scientific truth is nothing but unrealizable dreams.

“What is ‘thought’ in relativity, for example, is not science, but some kind of metaphysics based on abstract mathematical principles and conceptions which will be forever incomprehensible to beings like ourselves whose whole knowledge is derived from a three-dimensional world.

“The idea of the atom being formed of electrons and protons which go whirling round each other like a miniature sun and planets is an invention of the imagination, and has no relation to the real nature of matter.

“Virtually all progress has been achieved by physicists, discoverers and inventors; in short, devotees of the science which Newton and his disciples have been and are propounding.

“Personally, it is only efforts in this direction which have claimed my energies. Similar remarks might be made with respect to other modern developments of thought. Take, for example, the electron theory. Perhaps no other has given rise to so many erroneous ideas and chimerical hopes. Everybody speaks of electrons as something entirely definite and real. Still, the fact is that nobody has isolated it and nobody has measured its charge. Nor does anybody know what it really is.

“In order to explain the observed phenomena, atomic structures have been imagined [Quantum Mechanics], none of which can possibly exist. But the worst illusion to which modern thought has led is the idea of ‘indeterminacy’ [ex. Uncertainty Principle/Schrödinger's Cat: W. Heisenberg, E. Schrödinger]. To make this clear, I may remark that heretofore we have in positive science assumed that every effect is the result of a preceding cause.

“As far as I am concerned, I can say that after years of concentrated thought and investigation there is no truth in nature of which I would be more fully convinced. But the new theories of ‘indeterminacy’ state this is not true, that an effect cannot be predicted in advance.

“If two planets collide at certain time and certain place, this is to the student of positive science an inevitable result of preceding interactions between the bodies; and if our knowledge would be adequate, we would be able to foretell the event accurately.

“But in the spirit of the new theories this would simply be an accident. ‘Indeterminacy’ introduces into the world of inert matter a principle which might virtually be compared with the universal illusion of free will.

“Of course, there is no such thing. In years of experimenting I have found that every thought I conceive, every act I perform, is the result of external impressions on my senses.

“It is only because the vast majority of human being are not observant sufficiently that they live in the illusion of perfect choice and freedom in their thoughts and actions. And if this holds true even in the most complex and involved manifestations of human life, it holds true with the same force in all the world of matter.”

With this pessimistic outlook expressed earlier in the interview Dr. Tesla was not satisfied to contemplate the world spinning eternally around on its orbit.

“The earth may explode, a planet may collide with us, yet it has existed a long time.”

His reply had a note of grim humor, indicating that even a scientist who locks himself away from the world may know his homely aphorisms.

Conferência “Gênero, Ciência e Desenvolvimento Sustentável” Nações Unidas

Hello, adventurers!

No dia 11 de Fevereiro, comemorou-se internacionalmente o “Dia das mulheres e meninas na ciência”e eu não poderia deixar de atualizá-los sobre o assunto! A ideia de se criar uma data como essa surgiu no primeiro Fórum Mundial de Alto Nível sobre a Saúde das Mulheres e Desenvolvimento organizado pelo Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT) e o Departamento de Assuntos Econômicos e Sociais das Nações Unidas realizado em 2015.

Na 70ª Assembleia Geral das Nações Unidas realizada ao final deste mesmo ano, uma resolução foi adotada (70/212) que proclamava o dia 11 de Fevereiro como a data anual em que se celebraria o “Dia Internacional das Mulheres e Meninas na Ciência”. O apoio de mais de 68 países e a aprovação de todos os Estados Membros à resolução sinalizou o interesse da comunidade global em transformar nosso mundo através do alcance da paridade de gênero em oportunidade educacional e participação científica.

Tive a oportunidade de poder participar no âmbito das Nações Unidas de uma importante conferência. Se chama “Gender, Science and Sustainable Development: The Impact of Media”. Na Missão Permanente do Brasil, somos credenciados como delegates e por isso temos acesso à grande maioria das reuniões que acontecem dentro da ONU (exceto as reuniões “fechadas” ou restritas à membros específicos como embaixadores e ministros e às do Conselho de Segurança, por exemplo. Mas todas as outras, em geral, são liberadas). Estou preparando um post especial aqui no blog contando mais detalhes sobre como funciona o Programa de Capacitação Acadêmica da Missão, preparem-se e acompanhem as minhas redes sociais!

Mas voltando à Conferência, tive interesse em participar e pedi aos meus supervisores. Eles me autorizaram e pude preparar um relato sobre tudo que aconteceu para enviarmos ao Brasil.

Não poderia deixá-los de fora dessa experiência! Discutir e aprender sobre gênero, ciência e desenvolvimento sustentável é essencial. O entendimento de que mulheres e meninas DEVEM e PODEM contribuir e impactar a sociedade é uma premissa básica neste blog. Somos capazes de fazer história e de mudar estruturas. A coragem e a força fazem parte do nosso manifesto. Fomos criadas para sermos revolucionárias em nossos contextos, em nossas relações e atitudes. Assim sendo... hahaha deixem-me contar como foi:

A conferência foi organizada pelo Governo de Malta em parceria à Academia Internacional de Ciência Royal (RASIT), que têm trabalhado para assegurar a adoção da Resolução (70/212: Link A/70/474/Add.2 ) bem como a inclusão deste dia no calendário oficial das Nações Unidas. A temática escolhida para 2017, possui como foco principal o impacto da mídia no empoderamento de mulheres e meninas na ciência e sua contribuição para os Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável.

Fez uso da palavra, o Presidente da 71ª AGNU e RP da República de Fiji, Peter Thomson e recordou que a história global é repleta de exemplos de mulheres que produziram impacto social através da ciência e ressaltou que a importância de suas contribuições nos campos da matemática, da física e da biologia precisam ser resgatadas. Qualificou “alcançar a paridade de gênero”, um dos Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável preconizados pela Agenda 2030, como uma grande conquista desta geração. Ressaltou ainda, que as mulheres possuem habilidade para atuar com diversas áreas do conhecimento e que estas habilidades devem ser valorizadas e reconhecidas. Salientou a necessidade de se incentivar meninas a investirem em carreiras na ciência e de aperfeiçoarem seus talentos nesses campos.

Em seguida, a Princesa Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite, fundadora e presidente da Liga Internacional de Mulheres na Ciência, realizou intervenção na qual questionou quais são os sonhos atuais para mulheres e meninas no contexto científico. Ressaltou a importância do trabalho conjunto das Nações Unidas para a realização destes sonhos.

Merece destaque, a posição defendida pela Ministra de Diálogo Social, Relações de Consumo e Liberdades Civis de Malta, Dr. Helena Dalli que afirmou que “ a exclusão de mulheres dos campos de atuação profissional científica , limita o desenvolvimento”. Ao citar o longa-metragem americano “Hidden Figures” (2017) que protagoniza o papel de cientistas negras na corrida espacial norte americana, recém lançado no Brasil, Dalli salientou que as mulheres devem ser relembradas em seu papel imprescindível para a ciência.

Para isso, enfatiza a centralidade da mídia que num contexto histórico, sempre exerceu impacto na construção de papéis estereotipados de mulheres em seus comportamentos e ideias. A ministra reconheceu que a criação destes estereótipos afeta diretamente a perspectiva de jovens meninas sobre suas capacidades na ciência como engenheiras, professoras e líderes. Diante das estatísticas que evidenciam mulheres como a minoria histórica da ciência e que retratam ainda nos tempos atuais a desigualdade de salários e no exercício de suas funções se comparadas aos homens neste contexto, a ministra destacou a necessidade de se romper com estes rótulos e de se remodelar o papel feminino na ciência.

A primeira sessão da Conferência contou com outros discursos que acentuaram a importância de se ressaltar e difundir a capacidade intelectual de mulheres e meninas, a habilidade e a adequação feminina aos campos profissionais que envolvem a ciência. A mídia foi realçada como um instrumento central para a difusão de informações sobre o assunto bem como para a promoção de campanhas que sejam aliadas no processo de conscientização e de representatividade social. “O mundo precisa da ciência e a ciência precisa de mulheres”, conforme dito por Marie Paul Roudil, representante da UNESCO em discurso.

Em segunda sessão da Conferência, o RP da República da Bulgária, Georgi Velikov Panayotov fez especial menção ao fato de que mulheres ainda têm sido alocadas para cargos hieraquicamente inferiores aos dos homens no campo científico e tecnológico sob o pretexto machista de “incapacidade” mesmo quando possuem formação que comprove sua capacidade intelectual. Em concordância, o RP do Canadá, Marc- André Blanchard acentuou que devemos fazer mais e melhor do que já tem sido feito com relação às mulheres e meninas na ciência. Acrescentou que a mídia deve enfatizar a ciência como um campo para muheres . O RP de Palau, Dr. Caleb Otto reiterou que atualmente já obtivemos progresso e avanço na criação de oportunidades e na difusão de informações às meninas e mulheres quanto à ciência, entretanto a desigualdade de gênero ainda se apresenta como um obstáculo que precisa ser vencido para que haja desenvolvimento.

Ao final da conferência, o painel “Perspectiva de Cooperação para o Desenvolvimento: Sobre o Papel da Mulher na Ciência e da Mídia na Implementação dos ODSs” trouxe intervenções e questionamentos de mulheres da República de Malta ligadas ao campo acadêmico, professoras e cientistas que via transmissão pela internet,descreveram a função da mídia de comunicar o papel feminino históricamente e que neste sentido, deve integrar as mulheres e meninas ao avanço e ao desenvolvimento científico. O acesso destas mulheres e meninas à tecnologia , é portanto nesta pespectiva um aspecto imprescindível do desenvolvimento sustentável. Em discurso, a Diretora Adjunta do Escritório das Nações Unidas para a Cooperação Sul-Sul, Dra. Inyang Ebong – Harstrup ressaltou que o Brasil tem feito um grande trabalho nos esforços de se integrar mulheres aos campos da ciência e da tecnologia principalmente em carreiras do setor energético. Ainda há muito o que ser feito. Precisamos lutar pela valorização das mulheres nesse campo, incentivar, estimular as meninas que desejam se inserir como pesquisadoras, professoras, líderes, estudantes na ciência.

A Conferência “Gênero, Ciência e Desenvolvimento Sustentável: o Impacto da Mídia” reafirma a importância de uma participação equitativa das mulheres e meninas na ciência no intuito de se implementar de modo eficaz a Agenda 2030 e reitera o compromisso e o engajamento global de todos os países em “não deixar ninguém para trás” ao compasso das transformações desta era. Reconhecer a igualdade de gênero como um dos Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável é também compreender o papel centralizador que mulheres e meninas podem exercer em seus contextos quando inseridas nos múltiplos processos de construção da liberdade e da autonomia.

Existe uma tendência generalizada de se invisibilizar o trabalho científico realizado por mulheres ao longo da história. À margem de grandes nomes (sempre masculinos) que permeiam descobertas e estudos científicos, mulheres brilhantes são esquecidas e desvalorizadas. Seus estudos e contribuições são por (MUITAS) vezes atribuídos primordialmente à homens ao invés de suas próprias criadoras. Quantos homens importantes na ciência você conhece? Certamente já ouviu vários nomes: Einstein, Isaac Newton, Darwin, Galileu... E quantas mulheres? Fomos ensinados a nos esquecer de algumas das contribuições mais importantes da ciência realizadas por mulheres. Simplesmente não as conhecemos. Não ouvimos falar sobre elas nas escolas, nem mesmo na mídia, nos livros. E porquê? Porque sob o pretexto machista e excludente de que mulheres são “INCAPAZES”, durante muitos anos mulheres foram desvalorizadas, consideradas inferiores e não só na ciência, como em todos os demais aspectos da sua existência. Não podíamos estudar, não podíamos votar, não podíamos participar dos espaços de tomada de decisão e de influência. A história nos comprova isso. O que vivemos hoje é um resquício machista e limitador de um passado no qual as mulheres vivíam em sociedade mas completamente à parte dela, excluídas de exercerem seus direitos como cidadãs, como trabalhadoras... Humanas. Dotadas de ideias, opiniões. Isso precisa mudar! Vejam só quantas descobertas foram realizadas por mulheres cientistas ao longo da história:

Um dos discursos na segunda sessão, foi de uma representante da GE Global Research, chefe de “Mulheres na Tecnologia” a Dr. Janeel Uzzell, que nos incentivou a imaginar como seria um mundo em que grandes cientistas fossem reconhecidas por seu trabalho e fossem famosas, grandes celebridades. Ela trouxe um vídeo fantástico de uma das campanhas da empresa sobre essa perspectiva falando sobre a cientista Millie Dresshaul, a primeira mulher a ganhar uma medalha nacional em Engenharia. Esse vídeo me emocionou. Me fez pensar no quanto o esforço, a dedicação dessas mulheres e meninas brilhantes deve ser lembrado. O meu desejo é de poder incentivar você que está lendo, a também fazer parte desse movimento. #WomenInScience #MakeItHappen é um desafio para o Brasil e para todos os outros países. É uma campanha que todos nós podemos participar. Podemos levar informação, difundir conhecimento, podemos incentivar meninas à estudarem, a lerem, a serem as melhores estudantes e futuras profissionais que puderem ser. Podemos desconstruir todos os dias esse sistema desigual em que nos inserimos e lutar por mais oportunidades, por acesso. Podemos questionar, provocar reflexões onde estivermos e contribuir de pouquinho em pouquinho para que outros e outras possam viver melhor. Estamos lutando por hoje e por um amanhã de dignidade e justiça para nossas filhas, netas e bisnetas. Não fique de fora.
