BAD PREMONITION TOUR ARCHIVE: CHICAGO / VANCOUVER / SEATTLE / PORTLAND Chicago was madness. The whole day was a classic tour shit show. We missed our flight from Toronto to Seattle that morning due to airport immigration chaos, and there were no other flights going to Chicago all day. We panicked around the airport trying to find our baggage and ended up waiting for 3 hours before *most* of it got back to us and then booked it to a different airport just in time to jump on their last flight. Bags were lost but we left without them and made it just in time for a quick soundcheck and then the show. As tends to happen though, at the end of those really crazy, stressful days, the shows tend to be some of the most magnetic..I think it's because they hold so much more weight and meaning once you've jumped through hoops to make it. It was such a charged energy in the venue that night and Chicago showed UP. It ended up being one of my fav shows of all. Hometown show in Vancouver was so nice :) It was a sleepy Tuesday and the energy was more mellow, but my family and friends were there which made it xtra special. I wore a soft green Collina Strada set and crimped my bangs. Sheldon, a super sweet fan who always comes to my Vancouver shows and makes me something (he makes really cool jewelry), brought me a hand-made belt that I adore. I got it just in time before going on stage and though it didn't work as a belt with the outfit, I wrapped it around my neck as a necklace <3 I love moments like this, when things just come together in a snap and then you're on stage.

Seattle was hot and sweaty. I always love playing in the Pacific Northwest, it's just always a vibe and the drives are beautiful. It was another pUnK night - real basement party energy. I wore a dark grey Prisca Vera skirt and top and slicked my hair back in honor of how Seattle feels to me. There were some great thrift stores right around the venue and I got a few cute things, an Aaliyah queen of the damned grinder and some really bomb thai food. Thank u seattle <3
Portland was next. I played at Doug Fir Lounge which is a venue I love!! I had played there once before during my headline tour in 2017 - it's a really cool space. I remember that show in 2017 was the first time I smoked on stage ! someone had passed me a j from the audience and I hit it and has a real out of body experience hahh.. it was just one of those memories.. This current show was falling on 4/20 so...it felt respectful to repeat the whole experience. I mentioned this to the audience and during my encore I looked out and saw a big j making its way towards the stage, crowd surfing above people and to me <3 <3 <3 I wore a frankie's bikinis suit and a big giant pink bow on my butt.

Queens, NY -- Uruguay-born artist Juan Wauters will be releasing his sixth studio album Wandering Rebel on June 2 via Captured Tracks. Last week, he shared newest single “Nube Negra” featuring Y La Bamba. The ruminating song spans just under 3.5 minutes long, with an acoustic guitar-driven instrumental. There’s a folk-y core to the track that gives the song a narrative style, emulating songs that unravel a story as it goes on. “Nube Negra” is a traveler’s song - from the lyrics touching on escapism (even though you can’t escape problems that will inevitably follow you wherever you go) to the soft western layers, giving the song a touch of adventures in the Wild Wild West.
On the track, Wauters shares: “Nube Negra” was written and recorded in NY with Carlos Hernandez. The song and the video touch on the idea of relocating to a new town in search of a new life, leaving one’s problems behind without realizing that those problems will follow us along. Once the song was written we wanted a guest singer for the Nube Negra (black cloud) part and thought Luz’s voice (Y La Bamba) would fit well, given the mysterious qualities of her voice.

Spoon Benders and Friends Throw Punk Rock Party in Portland, Oregon
By Greg Homolka
In the few short years since singer/guitarist Katy Black willed Spoon Benders into existence, the band has combined garage-psych musical sensibilities with a punk rock DIY ethos, and turned it into a tangible success. Over the past several months, Spoon Benders has been invited to join one tour after another, and filled the time in between with appearances at rock festivals around the western U.S. On April 1st, Spoon Benders returned to Portland, Oregon, and, along with fellow Portland bands Kill Michael and Help, hosted a sold-out, all-ages show at the Mission Theater.
Hard and heavy rockers Kill Michael opened the show. Their sludge sounds and growling vocals were embellished with intermittent congas and an enthusiastic, maraca-wielding, slam-dancing hype man. Their set culminated with Kill Michael’s lead singer getting the best of the maraca shaker in a staged boxing match on the dance floor.
Portland noise punk favorites Help then offered up a set of no-holds-barred thrash-and-burn ragers that channeled angst and energy in true punk fashion. The members of Help spent time in popular indie rock bands before getting together and finding cathartic release in laying down raucous rockers that speak to trying times, and literally screaming for help in the fight for freedom and equality. Black, along with fellow Spoon Benders Leo Pastor and Velvet, all made it on stage to participate in the musical mayhem.
It wasn’t long before Spoon Benders took the stage and got down to business. They played a majority of the songs on their first release, 2020’s Dura Mater, as well as some more recent singles, including 2021’s “Cut Behind” and latest release “Rm. 157,” which features Pastor on lead vocals rather than Black. The crowd was an active participant, head banging, moshing, and literally supporting the band when one of the members decided to play horizontally, riding atop the outstretched arms of fans. Help’s Ryan Neighbors joined the fray toward the end of the set, coming onstage to play some guitar and get in on the crowd surfing action.
It’s been a little over a year since I first saw Spoon Benders at Treefort Music Fest in Boise, Idaho. In that year, they’ve gained confidence and cohesion as a band, driving forward and crowd surfing the ensuing wave to more shows and a devoted fanbase. It will be fun to see where their youthful exuberance and dedication to their craft takes them next.
Catch Spoon Benders at Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge on May 12 for the celebration of the release of sophomore album, How Things Repeat.

Last week, the Baluyut brothers graced the West Coast with not one, but TWO awesome bands, +/- and Versus. Megalomaniac by +/- is one of my favorite songs, and the half-empty venue allowed for excellent viewing.
