so a few days back i foud the great 2 hour long anpanman songs playlist on spotyfy and it rocks!

it has many of my favorite song and others that i never though i would see there/never heard before

i got to finaly hear omusubiman's theme and honestly new fav

BUT along the way i also found a new fav!

its caled kaiketsu anpanman (the great anpanman) and it was conposed by taku izumi and sang by none other than the BONNY JACKS! (they did the sining vocals in kindly lion and little jumbo) therefore is the most takashi yanase song ever

also the lyrics hit just as hard if not even harder than the anpanman march

also the bonny jacks's vocals just carry so much weigth! idk where this song was featured (and if it was featured anywhere in the anime) wich is a shame bc this song goes so hard! perfect for a climatic battle!

also it kinda feels like this came for an alternative dimension where dreaming (the duo that sings most anpanman songs including the opening) never existed and they caled the good'ol reliable bonny jacks to do the job, or one where the anpanman anime came out in the late 70s or something

WAIT HOLD ON THAT’S A THIRD ADAPTION OF THE OPENING SONG!! We’re forgetting about almost-lost media of first adaption of DORAEMON 1973, a surprise April Fools for you! First aired in April 1st, 1973 and ended airing until September 30, 1973, 26 episodes in total of airing (52 segments). I’d like to talk about why I drew this on specific day:

It’s amusing subject. The original fans and critics mentioned it came out faithful in brief run; to give the interest of new type of art medium in animated form! In contrary of successful episodes following the manga (more mischievous and somewhat darker plot); Nippon TV Video, the studio went to cancel this show due to reaching bankruptcy and dissolved in September 30, 1973; where the last episode was aired. I think you’ll be surprised where the CEO President of Nippon TV Studio went.

21 episodes survived, out of 5 episodes were lost and still searching; while believing the media files were burned down or kept hidden away from the original studio employees hide in shame. I would like to appreciate the archive collectors of avid long time fans where they started investing Doraemon! Happy 50th anniversary of first animated show, now we’re free from copyrights, LOL! I want to add drawing Hello Kitty in reference of Maneki-neko statute but I got the pose wrong, but it’s what it is then!

She used the "Fictional Character Eggs" (架空人物たまご) to call out characters like Cinderella and asked them to help with housework.

Once she asked Doraemon to come up with a gadget that let her monitor Nobita no matter where he goes. To meet her request, Doraemon tricked Nobita into using the "Optic Fiber Ivy" (光ファイバーつた).

Both Nobita's parents used the "Devil Card" (デビルカード) to get more money, not knowing that it costs Nobita a little of his height every time it's used.

Which Stories from the Doraemon Manga Have Not Been Translated into English?

When I compiled my spreadsheet of Doraemon manga chapters available in English, I noted that 16 stories from the manga remain untranslated. (That number only covers Doraemon manga by the original author, Fujiko F. Fujio, and not the various spin-offs and adaptations by other authors.) However, at the time I hadn't gone to the trouble of tracking down exactly which ones these were. I have now done the work, so here I can provide the complete list of Doraemon manga stories unavailable in English.

As I'd observed previously, none of the stories featuring the retconned character Gachako were translated, of which there are five in total:

"ドラえもん対ガチャ子" ("Doraemon vs. Gachako", 1970)

"ロボットのガチャ子" ("Gachako the Robot", 1970)

"きょうりゅうが来た" ("A Dinosaur is Here", 1970)

"まほうのかがみ" ("Magic Mirror", 1970)

"おかしなでんぱ" ("Strange Electromagnetic Waves", 1970)

In addition to those, the following Doraemon stories lack official English translations:

"ドラえもんのおとしだま" ("Doraemon's New Year's Money", 1971): Doraemon tricks Nobita and his friends into giving him money for New Year's. (Early Doraemon had a somewhat different personality from what we're used to now...) A two-page bonus comic drawn to promote a manga contest.

"遊園地になる木" ("A Tree That Becomes an Amusement Park", 1972): Doraemon plants a tree that does what the title implies. Out of all the untranslated Doraemon stories, this is the only one for which I can't think of any obvious explanation for why it has been omitted. It's a very short, one-page comic directed at kindergarteners, but other such Doraemon stories have been translated for the Kindle release, so... I've got nothing.

"はりええほんドラえもん" ("Sticker Picture Book Doraemon", 1973): An interactive comic in which the reader is encouraged to cut out provided images and glue them into blank spaces to complete the plot. Notably features the earliest appearance of the Mini Doraemons. Given that English Doraemon comics have primarily been released in digital format, it's understandable why this story has not been translated.

"じゅん番入れかわりそうち" ("Order Changer", 1974): Title page pictured above. This was the introduction to the Dorami spin-off in which she takes care of Nobita's identical-looking distant relative, Nobitaro. The other stories from the spin-off were later redrawn to be part of the main Doraemon series, rendering this one out of place for most future releases.

"ドラえもん百科" ("The Doraemon Encyclopedia", 1975): A bonus comic presenting an illustrated guide to Doraemon's gadgets, first published in vol. 6 of the 45-volume Doraemon print compilation. Based on the art style, this entry was not illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio himself, and it was not included in The Complete Works of Fujiko F. Fujio. It really only qualifies for this list on the technicality of being printed in the 45-volume set (the contents of which were selected by Fujio). Not to be confused with "ドラえもん大事典", which despite also translating to "The Doraemon Encyclopedia" and having been first published in 1975, is included in the English Kindle release.

"ジャックと豆の木" ("Jack and the Beanstalk", 1975): Gian asks Doraemon for a giant beanstalk. This story was released as part of Fujio's Shonen SF Short Story Collection, so it is technically not part of the Doraemon series. However, given that it features Doraemon characters as protagonists, it can be considered a Fujio-authored Doraemon story.

"ドラえもんの大ひみつ" ("Doraemon's Big Secret", 1976): A two-page bonus comic in which Nobita learns Doraemon's backstory.

"未来の遊び百科" ("Future Game Encyclopedia", 1976): Doraemon shows Nobita games that people will play in the 22nd Century. Much of the material from this comic was later merged with "ドラえもん大事典" ("The Doraemon Encyclopedia") when the latter was reprinted in vol. 11 of the 45-volume set.

"さよならハンカチ" ("Goodbye Handkerchief", 1980): A two-page bonus comic drawn as a prize for a contest in which readers could send in their own gadget concepts.

"シューズセット" ("Shoe Set", 1980): A two-page bonus comic drawn as a prize for a contest in which readers could send in their own gadget concepts.

"人間そっくりたまご" ("Human Lookalike Egg", 1981): A three-page bonus comic drawn as a prize for a contest in which readers could send in their own gadget concepts.

That covers the 16 missing entries based on the total number of Fujio-authored Doraemon stories recognized by Yasuyuki Yokoyama, professor of education at the University of Toyama and founder of Doraemonology (yes, that’s a thing). However, there are a couple of remaining stories that should arguably be considered as well, and also remain untranslated:

"道路光線" ("Pathway Beam", 1980): A two-page bonus comic drawn as a prize for a contest in which readers could send in their own gadget concepts. Yokoyama didn't count this as a separate story because it was expanded in 1981 into a regular-length chapter, "歩け歩け月までも" ("Walking to the Moon") (which is available in English), but the argument could be made that it should be, much like how he considered the original short version of "Nobita's Dinosaur" and its extended Doraemon Long Stories version independent entries.

"ドラQパーマン" ("Dora Q Perman", 1979): A crossover with two of Fujio's other series, Obake no Q-Tarō and Perman. This story was primarily drawn by Hideo Shinoda, which is why it was omitted from Yokoyama's list. However, Fujio is still credited as one of the authors and it is included in The Complete Works of Fujiko F. Fujio.

I have added all of the above stories to my spreadsheet so that it now doubles as a complete list of Fujio-authored Doraemon entries.

If there is a takeaway to all of this, it's that the English Kindle release really is a very complete record of the Doraemon manga. If you read every Doraemon story available on Kindle in English, you will have read nearly every Doraemon work made by the original author, outside of a few exceptional outliers. That being said, it's clear that the Kindle version takes some liberties with its translation (as I have previously noted), so if one wishes to gain an accurate picture of the original dialogue, the Japanese version should always be consulted when possible.

Obscure Animation Subject #144: Jungle Kurobe

And we are back to some obscure animation! This time, we have a creation from the duo behind Doraemon, Fujiko Fujio! It’s about a Tarzanesque child who goes on adventures in modern day Japan. The series lasted for 31 episodes of 61 segments from March 2 to September 28, 1973 on MBS. The show is most famous for having initial character designs by the later legendary Hayao Miyazaki, though due to Fujiko F Fujio's involvement, the final designs were done by Yoshio Kabashima, known for his work on Gamba no Bouken and Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo.

The series is directed by Osamu Dezaki, who was very hands-on with all the anime he directed, doing most of the storyboards himself, and his fast-paced directing style was put into good use with the show's slapstick humor and rapid-fire gags.

And now the elephant in the room, in 1989, it was deemed "racially offensive for its portrayal of Africans" and its manga and anime were withdrawn from Japanese commercial distribution, essentially becoming banned in Japan. Of course, this is because the main protagonist is actually blackface, which isn't a good look to see. This makes it on the same roof as the censored 11 of the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies series, and even the first star of the series, Bosko!

However, the series did see the light of day again by 2015, when TMS released the complete series on DVD. In spite of the racism in all, this show is actually hilarious. The animation quality is great for the time, the characters are actually a lot of fun and the humor is some of the fun from Fujiko Fujio. I recommend checking it out in spite of its questionable content because it’s a lot of fun.

BALITANG SHOWBIZ: Doraemon's Double Pioneer Japanese Voice Actresses of 'Nobi Nobita' have both died

KYOTO, JAPAN -- The world of Japanese animation mourns the death of two (2) pioneering voice actresses from the hit classic anime series 'Doraemon'. The death of 'Yoshiko Ota', acts originally for 'Mr. Nobita Nobi', and Noriko Ohara, her successor, has left fans and their colleagues in tears.

Yoshiko Ota, who first brought Nobita to life in the 1973 version of 'Doraemon' on Nippon Television, passed away last Friday on October 29, 2021 at the age of 89. Her agency at 'Theatre Echo' announced that she succumbed to heart failure after battling the condition for several years. Ms. Ota's portrayal of Nobita laid the base for the popularity that has not only endured but also left a mark on the series.

Nobita of the 1979 series 'Noriko Ohara', died alone on Friday (July 12, 2024) at 88 y/o. Ohara's agency '81 Produce' revealed on social media post that she had died after receiving unsuccessful treatment for an unspecified illness. Our news team learned to OneNETnews, it is not determine if she is related to natural death, health concerns or both.

With her voice, Ohara's instantly became synonymous with Mr. Nobita, the character loved by generations of Japanese viewers. In a career spanning more than 4 decades, she also voiced characters in other popular anime, including 'Yatterman' that was released in January 1977 and 'Conan: The Boy in Future' in 1978. Though their names share 'Conan' from the anime series 'Detective Edogawa Conan' are no connection, or being related between the plot, genre or voice production occurs.

First broadcast in April 1979 at All-Nippon News Network's TV Asahi, 'Doraemon' just about became an instant cultural phenomenon first in Japan and then around the world. The series follows a cat robot named Doraemon as he travels back in time to help a young boy named 'Mr. Nobi Nobita'. That success may be due only to the magnificent voice acting that realized these characters and made them emotionally resonate with audiences across all ages.

Internationally, 'Doraemon' found its place in more syndicated TV networks outside Japan, whether by free or cable TV, such as Disney XD in the United States of America (U.S.A.) and GMA 7 in the Philippines. Episodes in local languages, as part of global syndication aired most of the daily reruns with no new episodes. Such worldwide reach made the series a staple of childhood for most in the world, further making it a cultural icon.

A thoughtfulness tribute between Ota and Ohara marked an era for 'Doraemon' fans. In so many ways, their comforting voices will be deeply missed. Today, 'Ms. Megumi Ohara' already has to transition her around 2 decades ago, in continuing her new legacy for a voice actress of 'Nobi Nobita', because of the likeness that matches as a fictional male character.

As the anime community reflects on their legacy, the impact of Ota and Ohara's work will continue to be felt for generations to come. Both hard work and skills have all managed to touch the anime industry, in such a way that their voices will never be forgotten, always remembered in the hearts of fans worldwide.
