“Touch me with a kiss, feel me on your lips”
Tumblr media
Donna Beneviento x White Fox Reader
cw : fluff // donna’s protective as well as needy little fox // a hint of a smut // not explicit but explicitly suggestive // loving sisters donna x alcina
ao3 — https://archiveofourown.org/works/42211659/chapters/108292656
so, i was inspired
Tumblr media
Despite the frosty coldness of the winter morning, Donna could feel nothing but heavenly warmth. Around her body in a tangled poetic mess were long lithe limbs, an exquisitely sweet body nestled against her side.
Like a moth to a flame, her fingers found themselves gravitating towards the crown of your head, swimming amongst your silky smooth strands. Charcoal black nails, a sharp contrast to a forest of snow white mane.
As she relished the feeling akin to sinking one’s fingers into soft satin, there bloomed a heart-heaving, butterfly-inducing sensation of moist, delicate lips teasing the tender skin of her under jaw. The hummingbird flutter of her pulse immediately escalated to full throttle throbs once you emitted a soft sleepy hum against her skin.
It had been some time since the woodland predicament in which she had found herself, and subsequently the lovely discovery that had come as a shockingly sweet surprise.
“Donna.”
Your utterance of her name had been nothing short of ambrosia to her ears.
“Neve?”
She had asked, and you had nuzzled your cheek against what little portion of skin that was peeking out from under her veil. If your uncanny resemblance to House Beneviento’s much anticipated visitor had not been proof enough, then your actions had. You were indeed her darling little Neve. Snow, it meant in Italian. A name befitting you who had fur the colour of pure unsullied white.
She did not mind that at that moment in time, you were sullied crimson, bathed in blood. In fact, she could pay no mind to it whatsoever, for no sooner had she swayed a wee bit on her feet than she was instantly swept off her feet, both literally and metaphorically, into steady arms. You did it so effortlessly, so unexpectedly that she could not contain the surprised little squeak that went flying past her lips, or the arms that wounded themselves around your delicate neck.
Underneath the dark veil hid cherry dusted cheeks as the doll-maker was held close to your bare frame. It was delightfully reminiscent of the way Donna had carried you in your fox form. But a tiny little thing then, had now transformed into a charming woman. One thing that had not changed was your majestic beauty.
It was now clear as day that despite your adorably dainty fox form, you were magnificently strong if the way you had carried her without so much as a struggle, or the apparent display of your breathtaking biceps were anything to go by. Donna would not have guessed otherwise that hidden beneath your fluffy coat were muscles that had come with years of foraging in the forest.
You were unequivocally pretty, but there, too, lay a hint of handsomeness in you that made you all the more otherworldly.
Donna’s bed had become your bed ever since your arrival at the Beneviento estate, and it remained so even when the new revelation came to light. The only difference was that replacing the wet little nose buried in the nook of her neck every night were heavenly warm lips nuzzling her pulse point.
Donna did not mind you always getting all cosy up against her. With you, displays of affection came easily, naturally to her. More often than not, she would find herself initiating bodily contacts as she had when you were a fox, a scratch on your sweet head, fingers combing through soft healthy hair, and fox or human, you revelled in her affections all the same.
You still said few even as a human, and Donna, not being one for words, appreciated it. Be that as it may, her usual anxiousness around people was void around you. You made Donna anything but perturbed. With you, she felt at home.
Friendly faced and sweet souled though you were, what had transpired in the woods had left you tremendously protective of Donna. If Donna disappeared from your line of sight, you would seek her instantly, head curiously tilting a touch as those miraculously mismatched eyes follow her every movement.
A sweet little puppy, that was how you behaved with Donna, but around people whom you assumed a threat to her, you became a frighteningly daunting fox.
One fine morning, the doll-maker had brought you along to Castle Dimitrescu, when she journeyed there to indulge in tea-time conversations with her sister. Her nieces had boisterously approached her to greet her as they usually did, but you had intervened, standing protectively in front of her as you bared your teeth in a menacing snarl. A low growl rumbled in your throat. However, with Donna’s gentle hand atop your head, the tension in your body instantly ebbed away.
Later that same day, a maid from Castle Dimitrescu whom, Donna noticed, had been looking at you with lovesick puppy eyes since their arrival, purposefully as if on accident had spilled hot tea onto her. In a wink of an eye, following a flurry of snowy hair whipping past Donna, the culprit was shoved to the floor as you pounced on the girl.
There subsequently reverberated an agonised scream in the room, and Donna supposed if it was not for her own pained little gasp reaching your ears, there would have been nothing stopping you from tearing the poor thing to shreds, except that, you were on her side as swiftly as you had disappeared, fretting over her. Eyes, emerald and sapphire pools, ridden with staggering concern.
She dropped a gentle pat atop your head, managed a convincing smile. “I’m okay, Neve.”
That seemed to placate you, albeit only marginally. Arms locking around the doll-maker’s waist, you had buried your face in her laps, extremely cautious in your actions as if you could cause her any harm. If anything, Donna could not help the belly butterflies that appeared to have gone downright feral at your lovely little gesture.
Needless to say, your unhinged reaction to the maid had not only predictably awed her sister, the matriarch of the castle, but also earned the respect of her three untamed daughters. Although Donna had not gained any serious injuries, the instigator of what little wound she had sustained on the other hand, had not been as lucky, being immediately dragged into the dark labyrinths of the castle by her nieces at her sister’s command.
At the same time, you garnering the favour and awe of the three girls translated into recurring visits to Castle Dimitrescu for the weekly rendezvouses of you, her nieces and Angie. It warmed the doll-maker’s heart that her beloved fox fitted perfectly into her little world of horrors and eccentricities.
It was then that her fond reminiscence was interrupted. Shifting in the doll-maker’s arms, cerulean blue and juniper green eyes hazy with the remnants of sleep had gazed lovingly into her own, a sunshine smile on your lovely lips injecting warmth into her body.
“Well, hello there, my sweet Neve.” She husked, her own voice deep, and you hummed happily, “Hmm…Donna.” , as soon as her thumb found the apple of your cheek, applying soft, delicate caresses.
For breakfast, Donna made her darling little fox’s favourite, piping hot peach tart fresh out of the oven, and using those sweet presents you had brought her coupled with a vintage gifted to her by her sister, a decadent pot of berries poached in red wine.
The intricacies of the preparation were nothing compared to the unadulterated childish glee on your angelic face, that she got to witness as you tucked into her baked goods with gusto.
However, you were behaving rather oddly today. It was so unlike you not to finish the whole pie, not to mention a mere slice of it, by yourself. You had had only a bite or two of the pie, and merely a spoonful of the berries before you left them altogether, in order to find yourself at Donna’s feet, head in her laps.
How strange.
“Is my cara Neve full already?”
“No.” Coming out of your hiding spot, you had sought the doll-maker’s face. “Hungry. Donna.”
“Don’t worry about me. It’s all for you.” Her fingers slipped into your lily white strands, gingerly tucking them behind your ear. “Angie can have pancakes when she wakes up.”
“Not food.” To her absolute bewilderment, following an adamant shake of your head, there appeared a frustrated little furrow between your eyebrows. “Hungry…for Donna.” If only for a fleeting moment, it had surprised her when you frantically climbed into her laps after divulging your desire, but she held you all too willingly once the meaning behind your words sank in, caging your delicate waist in her dexterous digits.
“Very hungry. It hurts.” When you repeated, there was desperation in your voice. Your eyes, oh those strangely peculiarly addictive eyes, were dewy with want, promise of oncoming tears shimmering in the first rays of sunlight streaming through the window.
“Donna…hurts.” Straddling her thighs, your forehead fell against hers, lips a whisker away, and Donna was compelled to capture them in her own, “Shhhh…it’s okay, Neve.” , cooing against kiss-swollen lips. “It’s okay. Donna’s got you.”
With the delicious distraction mounted on her thighs, it was a miracle that she could vaguely recall the informations concerning foxes that she had researched following your arrival into her life.
If your odd behaviour along with the searing moistness she could feel seeping through her garment were any indications, then, it was unmistakably that time of the year for foxes, with this wildly excited little fox in her lap being no exception.
Whining sweetly and gyrating your hips desperately, you sought her mouth once more, savouring her for all the doll-maker was worth.
You tasted as heavenly as you looked, Donna decided, and drunk on your taste, with her long frayed restraint snapped, she had greedily devoured her scrumptious little fox to her heart’s content.
Needless to say, it was no surprise that she could not take you to Castle Dimitrescu for your weekly rendezvous.
By the time next week arrived and they finally paid a visit to the Castle, seeing the miscellany of maroon and indigo blooms on your neck and chest, that had been left exposed by the sundress Donna had tailored for you, Alcina had remarked mischievously.
“My my little sister, I didn’t peg you for a ravenous lover.”
Smiling a meek yet proud smile, Donna’s fingers had surreptitiously sneaked onto the spot on her neck where beneath the dark fabric lay a beautiful blossom of dark crimson, indicating that she, too, was irrevocably yours as you were hers.

Pokémon Sword & Shield Sexuality Headcanons Part 1/3

Victor Giuseppe: Gray-sexual
Relationships wasn’t really a topic that Victor talked about. Well, until he ultimately fell in love with Travis (Bede), or female Travis, for that matter. But he was afraid to tell her his feelings. Thus until the latter kissed him.

Rosemary (Marnie) : Aromantic Trixique Lesbian
Love was definitely not in Marnie’s agenda. Or that’s what she thought. As time goes by, she wanted to spend more and more time with her best friend Solana (my OC), but she thought it was just to have fun. Little did she takes time to notice that she could finally feel some love while being near her. Solana always had a crush on her friend, but of course, she knew very well that she was Aromantic, so she let Rosemary take her time, and was always by her side no matter her decisions.

              Roy (Raihan) {Brother-In-Law}

                Scarlet Shieldmilia {Daughter}
Tumblr media
Sonia : Bi-curious
She may have had a crush on her friend Donna (Nessa) back then, but she never told her because in her head, Donna (Nessa) considers her as a sister and nothing more. She was close friends with Tarak (Leon), as they did their adventures together. Little did she know that she’ll miss these moments, especially when his little brother and his friends went on the exact same journey as they did back then. Realizing how much she missed that, she went back to Tarak (Leon), and they ended up falling for each other. She even took Nabil (Hop) under her wing when he decided that he wanted to become a Professor.

                Evan {Son}
                Draggoun {Adoptive Son}
Tumblr media
Travis (Bede) : Trans Torique (now Tracie)
Travis (Bede) was a proud and arrogant boy ever since Shehroz (Chairman Rose) trusted him for the Galarian Stars Tournament and all the stuff. But one day, he kind of abused this position and lost his “place”.
However, it was not over for him ; Sallie (Opal) found him and immediately thought that he was the perfect heir to her Gym Leader position. She trained him to be the perfect successor to her position. And that will change him drastically.
To a point where being a boy was not fitting for him anymore, and will start transitioning from male to female. She will then fall in love with Victor who was her rival at first.
Family : Shehroz (Chairman Rose) {Father Figure}
              Sallie (Opal) {Adoptive Grandmother}
              Gloria Giuseppe {Sister-In-Law}
              Victor and Gloria’s Mother {Mother-In-Law}
              Nabil (Hop) {Brother-In-Law}
              Tarak (Leon) {Brother-In-Law}
              Tarak (Leon) and Nabil’s (Hop’s) Mother {Mother-In-Law}
              Sonia Magnolia {Sister-In-Law}

              Danaël {Nephew}
              Tender {Nephew}
Husband : Victor Giuseppe
Child : Deeara Giuseppe {Daughter}
Tumblr media
Tarak (Leon) : Biromantic Demisexual
His relationship with Roy (Raihan) has always been a mix of pretty much everything : rivalry, friendship, jealousy, but there was also some love hidden in it. But what he felt towards Roy (Raihan) was nothing compared to the love he felt towards his childhood friend whom he shared his journey with. He realizes way after that Sonia was his crush no matter what. It took him a lot of time and moments spent together to ultimately realize that the love of his life was near him all along.
Family : Nabil (Hop) {Younger Brother}

Speaking of music! What type of music is P fcking R! Jane into? I love that snippet you’ve given us and I’m so excited to read Jane as a UC with Martinez and just diving into that world. I can do see how he and Jane clicked and clashed HARD . Of course you had to also have Jane dive into his sister 😂 Que drama! Any HC you may want to share form that universe? Have a great weekend!
There is a playlist! However this is mood music for the story and not necessarily what P FKN R Jane would listen to.
I picture her listening to canon Jane music, like Ambrosia, The Bee Gees, Sade, Prince, for mood. She listens to metal and other hard rock (like Metallica and shit) to pump herself up or work out. She loves her some Cher and gay club classics like Madonna and Donna Summer, too. In P FKN R she also has a reggaeton and bachata side courtesy of the Martinez family and some of the Dominican guys that worked in DCU with them.
In terms of head canons for the universe? Tatiana and Rafael’s mom moved Tatiana back to LA where she’s from when their parents got a divorce, and their dad took Rafa back to PR which is why he has his accent. And why Tatiana sounds Mexican (because they’re half). Their mom moved back to Boston to spend more time with Rafa after missing his childhood. She brings big lunches for him and his DCU buddies. This is how Jane meets Tatiana.
I think that’s it for now? I’ll have to think of one for Maura, too 🤔

“Seriousness and Sweetness” (Project Mayoniki)
AKA "Pretty birb and smol birb" ...ALTERNATIVELY: "Aislinn doesn't know how to title things!" ...Yeah, I had no idea what to put... This was pretty much a colouring test based on a specific scene in the story. This is only a tiny snippet but for context, this occurs after a mission. The main crew (minus Siku) are just waiting around when Phoenix brings up someone's faux pas. He's not the type to get angry, but if he thinks you've done something stupid, he'll tell you. Azura and Icarus, however, are the masters of getting on Phoenix's nerves. Needless to say, either Azu or Icarus having been testing Phoenix's patience to the point where Donna has to diffuse the situation. Not the most engaging paragraph, I know, but if I were a better writer maybe I would have wrote something out. But alas, I prefer to describe things with colours and tell stories visually... In other words, I have no way with words. The more I use this particular style, the more I prefer it over the the softer, more airbrush like style. I think I'm gonna keep it. I also wanted to try drawing these two next to each other because Phoenix is the tallest of the group and Donna. Is. TINY! I'll have to try doing backgrounds more often, but for now, I'm satisfied with how it all turned out.

Pietra

Specific references in Pomegranate Seeds, sorted by chapter
Title of work: Pomegranate Seeds
A reference to the myth of Persephone and Hades, where Hades is the god of the underworld who kidnaps Persephone – the daughter of Demeter, goddess of agriculture and harvest – and makes her queen of the underworld. He gives her a pomegranate to eat, and for every seed she swallows she has to spend a month with Hades in the underworld. During the months she is with Hades, she is gone from her mother, and that’s why autumn and winter exist (since Demeter is grieving the loss of her daughter). Spring and summer are the months when she is back with Demeter, and Demeter is once again happy. The myth has lots of interpretations, but my favourite is the one where it is said to be based on the trauma of both daughter and mother as they are separated when the daughter gets married and enters a new household.
Even though Giorno’s mother didn’t treat him well, her death was most likely traumatic to him. He enters the new household of Dio (Hades) and every time they touch each other in a way that isn’t befitting father and son, one could say that Giorno swallows another pomegranate seed, and it binds him to the underworld. In this case, the underworld would both represent the criminal world, but also the trap of their incestuous relationship that he then cannot leave, should he want to.
No specific references in chapters 1 & 2.
Chapter 3:
Demetra – Giorno’s mother doesn’t have a name in canon, so I made one up. Demetra is the Italian version of Demeter, which is the name of the Greek goddess of agriculture and harvest. The goddess is the mother of Persephone, and the title of this fic – Pomegranate Seeds – is a reference to the myth of Hades and Persephone.
The biblical paintings in the church – John the Baptist (martyr) was beheaded, and Judas (traitor) hung himself. The imagery around Eve, the snake and the red apple, well… depending on how you interpret the story in the Bible, this could mean that the scene doesn’t represent a fall from grace, but rather that it was God’s intention to have humanity step into the broader world.
Dio’s books – I mostly just had a look at my own bookshelf, but I purposely included Nabokov, Machiavelli, and Plato. Nabokov, of course, references his infamous novel Lolita. Machiavelli was an Italian politician and philosopher during the Renaissance, and he’s most famous for his book The Prince, where he gave rulers quite… devious advice, not shying away from unethical and corrupt means. Therefore Machiavelli and the derived term Machiavellian often denotes (political) deceit. And Plato, well, in his text The Symposium he speaks of the ancient practice of pederasty in a very positive manner, and claiming that it is the purest form of love.
Aniara – I picked the book because it’s my sister’s favourite. It is a book-length epic science fiction poem that narrates the tragedy of a large passenger spacecraft carrying a cargo of colonists escaping destruction on Earth veering off course, leaving the Solar System and entering into an existential struggle. This is the “space-travel” Giorno later reflects on while in the bath.
No specific references in chapter 4.
Chapter 5:
The next reference to Machiavelli – Giorno thinks about Machiavelli and the question if it is better to be feared or loved, which is something Machiavelli writes about in his book The Prince, where he states that it is better for a ruler to be feared than loved, if they cannot be both.
No specific references in chapter 6.
Chapter 7:
Reckless – Giorno notes that Dio wants him “recklessly, passionately”. This is one of the two times the word “reckless” is used in this story; the only other time being in the first chapter when Giorno’s mother dies after her car collides with a reckless truck. Dio’s desire for Giorno is tied together with that accident, as if it’s equally dangerous.
Jewel – “Yes, Giorno would like something like that; to show Dio that he was a prized jewel, cut to fit perfectly in the curve of his palm.” This line directly references the Song of Songs 7:1 “Your rounded thighs are like jewels, the work of a master hand.”
Eden – “How truly unfortunate, that the most tempting fruit should be found in the middle of Eden.” The garden of Eden, in the Bible, is where life is first created by God. It can therefore also symbolise family, where life also is created. So what Dio essentially says here is “what a shame the most fuckable person is found in my family”.
Draconic tendencies – Giorno having “draconic tendencies” is a reference to his earlier thoughts about Abbacchio hoarding Bucciarati like a jealous dragon.
Chapter 8:
Buttercups – Giorno picks a bouquet of buttercups for Dio, and buttercups have traditionally been associated with childhood. It is meant to express that Giorno, no matter how mature he himself is convinced that he is, still has a childish edge to his affection. As a fun aside, the Latin name for buttercups is Ranunculus, which means “little frog”.
Leda and the Swan – the painting Dio has in his study. It is, of course, an erotic yet controversial motif in itself, but there are some references to the Greek myth it is based on. In it, Zeus disguises himself as a swan and copulates with Leda. It is not entirely clear if it is by rape or seduction. Zeus, of course, is known for his sexual escapades, his violent temper and jealousy, but here he disguises himself as a swan, which is an animal that in European culture often has symbolised love and fidelity. This story of a shady person disguising himself as someone loving, to enter a relationship where consent is dubious at best, well… I think the implications are clear. As a fun aside, the name Zeus and the name Dio are directly connected.
Uneasy lies the head – the whole quote is “uneasy lies the head that wears a crown”, a saying from Shakespeare’s play Henry IV, Part 2, meaning that someone with great responsibilities won’t be able to rest properly.
The prodigal son – it’s a reference to a parable in the Bible, from Luke 15:11-32. The story goes that a son requests his inheritance early, spends it all irresponsibly, and then returns home to beg his father to let him work for him. His father, however, welcomes him home with open arms and throws a feast, which indicates that he has hopefully waiting for the son to return.
Nakedness – the scene in Giorno’s room, where he lowers his duvet to display his “nakedness”, the word choice here is important. Except for Genesis 42, all biblical occurrences of the common idiom ”to see the nakedness of” or “to uncover the nakedness of” are explicitly sexual, usually referring to incest. The Classical Hebrew word 'erwā is not “nudity” but “nakedness”, in the sense of something that is unseemly or improper to look at or expose; often used to denote forbidden sexual relations.
Chapter 9:
Wine-dark – Dio’s eyes are described as wine-dark, which is a reference to the use of “wine-dark sea” in Homer. It’s an epithet used in the Iliad and the Odyssey, of uncertain meaning. What exactly does it mean that the sea is “wine-dark”? Is it a reference to the stormy sea being unpredictable, like someone who’s drunk on wine? Or does it tell us something about how ancient Greeks perceived colours, where maybe depth and opacity levels were more important than hues?
Ambrosia – Giorno compares the taste of Dio’s seed to ambrosia, which is the food and drink of the gods in Greek mythology.
Lollipop – Giorno is sucking on a lollipop while he’s out shopping. This is a shameless reference to the most culturally recognised image of Nabokov’s Lolita, where Sue Lyon, the actress who portrayed the character Lolita in Stanley Kubrick’s film adaption of the novel, is sucking on a red lollipop while wearing heart-shaped sunglasses. It’s worth noting, however, that the character Lolita doesn’t eat a lollipop in the novel or Kubrick’s film, and the images were only used for promotion. Either way, the lollipop has nonetheless become a symbol for playful, youthful temptation.
No specific references in chapter 10.
Chapter 11:
Dio’s alarming beauty – Giorno reflects on how beautiful Dio is, that he is alarmingly beautiful. This is a reference to a quote from The Secret History by Donna Tartt: “Beauty is rarely soft or consolatory. Quite the contrary. Genuine beauty is always quite alarming.”
Chapter 12:
Kisses – there’s a lot of descriptions of kissing in the beginning of this chapter, and it is all a reference to the biblical book Song of Songs. “Honey-sweet kisses that melted his tongue” is a reference to Song of Songs 4:11 “honey and milk are under your tongue”. On a more complicated note… “those kisses, Giorno drank them from his mouth like they were life-giving water” is a reference to Song of Songs 1:2 that should be “I want to drink kisses from his mouth”, however, most translations will read “let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth”. It’s really complicated as to why I and others would translate it differently, but in general it has to do with the manuscript and the Masoretic editors’ vocalisation, which in turn has a lot to do with evaluating Classical Hebrew grammar and poetic conventions… I am going to spare you that lecture, but I still wanted to let you know that you won’t find that wording in most English translations of the Bible.
The garden, Eden, and juvenile sex – this all ties together. The garden of Eden is, in the Bible, where life is created and before “the fall of man”, it is a place of peace and innocence. Now, it might seem strange to refer to innocence in a story like this, but there still is a certain kind of innocence to their relationship, especially on Giorno’s end. They are described as “easy and unafraid, in full view of God”, which again is a reference to the biblical creation story; after “the fall of man”, when Adam and Eve have sinned, they are suddenly afraid of God and tries to hide from him, and for the first time shield their nudity, since they have now lost that innocence. So, Dio and Giorno being unafraid in full view of God is another reference to them being fairly innocent. At least that’s how Giorno conceptualises it.
Satyriasis – a word for excessive sexual desire, and an outdated term for hypersexuality. The word was developed in relation to the satyrs of Greek mythology, who were lustful woodland gods.
Nipple play – Giorno sucking on Dio’s tits, well… quite obvious reference, but if you missed it; it’s a reference to breastfeeding and nourishment.
Sunlight – in Stardust Crusaders, Dio tells Polnareff that he too has pain in his life because he can never see the sunlight, since he is a vampire. In this story, Dio isn’t a vampire, but I still wanted to include this pain. Dio’s love for the sunshine, and the depravation of it in his childhood, is my attempt to reconceptualise it.
Chapter 13:
Ice cream – elder flower sorbet has a tendency to taste like laundry detergent if you’re not careful, so Mista definitely picked the wrong flavour that time.
Know thy enemy – “know thy enemy” is a famous quote from The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
Chapter 14:
Paradise burning – more Eden references, they never truly stop.
Loins – in Classical Hebrew, one specifically emphasises that a child has sprung from someone’s loins to indicate that it is a biological child rather than an adopted one.
Deadly sins – Giorno notes that one of the seven deadly sins, sloth (that is, excessive laziness and indifference), doesn’t come as naturally to him as others would (such as lust or pride).
Know thy self – another reference to the famous quote of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War.
Companion – Giorno thinks about how the universe has blessed Dio with a companion that can keep up with him, which is a subtle reference to the creation myth in the Bible. There, God creates the first human, Adam. Adam attempts to find a companion amongst the other creatures, but cannot find an equal until God creates another human – incidentally, God creates another human from Adam (by his rib), which of course parallels with Giorno being created from Dio, since he is his biological child.
Clay – the dream Giorno has of Dio forming him out of clay and breathing life into him is another direct reference to the creation myth in the Bible, where God forms the first human out of clay/soil/dust from the ground and breathes life into his nostrils. Similar creation myths are found in several ancient Near Eastern religions. If you want a little more “fun” fact, the first human is named Adam, a name he gets from the Classical Hebrew word for “man” (as in human – not male), which is adam, and the word for “ground” is adamah, which ties to all together quite nicely.
Nakedness – Dio uncovers Giorno’s nakedness, and just like in chapter 8 it’s a biblical reference.
Chapter 15.
Cuddling – after having breakfast, they cuddle, and their position is described as Giorno resting his head on Dio’s left arm, and Dio draping his other arm over Giorno’s waist. This position is a reference to the biblical book the Song of Songs 2:6 “His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me.”
Angel lust – Dio gets hard after Giorno chokes him, which he says is a perfectly natural reaction to being choked. Which it is! “Angel lust” or “death erection” refers to the phenomenon of men executed by hanging having an erection, because of the increased downward blood flow. After observing this, doctors in the 17th century started prescribing choking sex to men with erectile dysfunction, and that’s partly where erotic asphyxiation comes from.
England – the phrase “lie back and think of England”, alternatively “close your eyes and think of England” is an old-timey reference to unwanted sex that one doesn’t enjoy – specifically used for sex within a marriage, which at least back in the day was more of an economic arrangement than a love affair. Disgustingly, it means “just lie back and endure it”.
Bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh – this is another reference to the creation story in the Bible. The specific verse is Genesis 2:23, when God has created another human to be a worthy companion of the first one. Adam, the first human, has searched for a companion among the animals but been unsuccessful to find an equal. But when he meets the newly created Eve, the second human, he exclaims “At last! This is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh” (since she was created from his rib). That “at last!” is very sweet – and fits in this story too! Dio has finally found a worthy companion to share his highest highs and deepest lows with.
Chapter 16.
Roses – Giorno buys a bouquet of roses for Dio. This is intended as a contrast to the buttercups he picked for Dio in chapter 8, being that roses are a much more “mature” flower than buttercups, therefore showing that Giorno has matured. Also, the fact that he buys the bouquet of roses while he picked the buttercups indicate a certain loss of simplicity and naturalness in their relationship.

Who on Earth is Rasputin?
If you answered “the Fourth Doctor using a Chameleon Arch”, you have seen the 1971 biopic Nicholas and Alexandra and you have the sort of spirit we’re looking for. We love you, Tom Baker, we love you.
Tumblr media
Nevertheless, while it is clearly canonical that every other part played by a given Dr Who actor represents that actor’s Doctor under a Chameleon Arch, (/s), let’s dig a little deeper, because it’s fun and we have cause to do so, into the life and history of Grigori Rasputin in the Doctor Who Universe.
(Lengthy development under the cut.)
1.
The PETER HARNESS Story
For those who haven’t been keeping up with the flood of great content springing from the Doctor Who: Lockdown event like slightly wobbly ambrosia from the Cornucopia, Peter Harness has released a synopsis for one of the most improbable missed opportunities of the Welsh Series: a Capaldi one-parter entitled How The Monk Got His Habit.
This story would have seen the return of the Time Meddler himself, or, as you may know him, the Monk—a positively delightful antagonist from the 1960′s who got overshadowed by the more enduring and more malevolent Master, and whose gimmick was that he was an amoral hedonist who changed history for fun and profit with no care for the consequences. In his televised appearances in the William Hartnell era, the Time Meddler was played by Peter Butterworth; first encountered posing as a monk in an 11th-century monastery, he was subsequently remembered as “the Monk”, wearing that costume, and known thereafter as “the Monk” or “the Meddling Monk” in fandom and in subsequent appearances.
Harness decided to feature an early incarnation of the character colliding out-of-sync with the Twelfth Doctor, giving nothing less than the origin story of the Meddling Monk, both the “meddling” and “monk” parts, and just from the original pitch email he dug up, it is a thing of beauty.
Tumblr media
(Source)
Further enjoyment is to be gleaned from the fully-written-out opening scene of a hypothetical novelisation of the unmade story, which can be found here and establishes the incarnation of the Time Meddler at the start of that story (currently going by “Roger”) as being his fifth.
This is mildly interesting in that in true Doctor Who fashion, it manages to contradict one of the very few already-existing stories that had tried to make sense of the Monk’s timeline. I refer of course to John Peel’s The Mutation of Time, which took time off to establish that the already-meddling, already-monasterial Peter Butterworth incarnation seen in The Time Meddler and The Daleks’ Master Plan was the Monk’s first incarnation. But never mind that.
Note that the historical Rasputin died at the tail end of 1916. I could construct elaborate theories of how and why Rasputin turning insane in 1917 could affect the Russian Revolution and the rest of human history, but I’ll spare you and myself the additional headache, and assume this was simply a typo.
2.
The BOOK OF THE WAR Story
Where it gets complicated, as is often the case, is when you factor in the Time War. See, The Book of the War, in one of its most entertaining side-stories, establishes that Grigori Rasputin actually did not die in December 1916. Instead, Faction Paradox, those lackadaisical jackanapes, thought it would be funny to spirit him away to their hideout a few days before his death, leaving a barely-sentient clone to act out Rasputin’s real death.
Unaware of this, the Celestis (a faction of Time Lords who turned themselves into incorporeal demons to escape the Time War) had decided to recruit Rasputin in their usual faustian way, offering him a form of immortality in exchange of his accepting to be Marked by them, becoming a slave to their will. Because the Rasputin clone’s basic programming included “Do whatever freaky time travelling sorcerers are telling you to do”, the thing blithely accepted the Celestis Mark and was on its way.
And then, unaware of what the Celestis had done, but having caught wind of the Faction Paradox cultists’ plan to bring Rasputin to their homebase, the actual Gallifrey-based Time Lords decided to duplicate Rasputin themselves, leaving a “trapped” Grigori for the Faction to find, one who was secretly loyal to them, the Great Houses. And so they showed up one day before Rasputin’s death to perform the switcheroo, being under the impression that if the Faction were to whisk Rasputin away, they would do so mere instants before he was supposed to die.
(Maybe the Time Lords thought that because that’s how they would do it. For more information, see S09E12, Hell Bent.)
Hence, come the fateful day, the Time Lords’ doctored duplicate of the Faction’s doctored duplicate of Rasputin, now secretly immortal thanks to, and under the control of the Celestis, (are you still following this?)… not only does it take forever to die because duh, it’s a badly-made golem, not a human being… but once it does find it within itself to die, it is instantly resurrected by the Celestis, who activate their Mark, ordering it to do their shadowy bidding.
Tumblr media
At this point, the misbegotten triple-zombie experiences an existential crisis too big for its artificial brain to handle, as what passes for its soul has now been conditioned to faithfully serve the interest of three different factions who are at war with each other. Not-Rasputin goes instantly mad with confusion and goes drown itself in the nearest river.
Meanwhile, in the members-only Faction Paradox treehouse, the original Rasputin whom the cultists replaced with the first golem is properly inducted into the Faction, where he is widely observed to turn into just as crazy a Grandfather Paradox zealot as he was a devout Orthodox and mystic. He proceeds to use his newfound authority as Father Dyavol of Faction Paradox to advise his fellow Faction member Princess Anastasia to secede from the Eleven-Day Empire and bugger off to Moscow.
After Anastasia and Dyavol’s revolution crashes and burns, his corpse is found in the river again, appearing to once more have been mutilated in more ways than it would take to kill a normal human being. The Book’s ambiguous in-universe authors are themselves unsure of quite what happened.

The OTHER STUFF
Those two are the “big ones”, but I would be remiss if I did not mention other Doctor Who takes on the historical Grigori Rasputin.
Big Finish’s Companion Chronicle The Wanderer has the First Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara coming across the younger, wandering-pilgrim Rasputin in 1903. He briefly becomes a genuine prophet due to having come into contact with an alien artefact which grants him knowledge of future human history, but this is undone at the end of the story and so doesn’t amount to very much.
I am told that this is because the story was originally written with Nostradamus in mind, which makes a lot of sense. What is of interest to us is that Rasputin is here depicted as a basically good, sane man, once you set the grandiose prophetic visions aside.
Dave McIntee’s The Wages of Sin, on the other hand, is also constructed around Rasputin’s death in December 1916, but it posits that Rasputin was a non-supernatural and non-crazy monk, totally undeserving of his ghoulish and supernatural post-mortem reputation. Rather problematically, it gives us a direct insight into Rasputin’s thought processes as he dies, with no thought of being a triple-zombie with conflicting allegiances to be gleaned:

The THEORY
What this tells us is that Rasputin’s death is not strictly a bootstrap paradox — the original historical death that the Faction fetishized to the point of wanting to get their own ritualistic mitts on Rasputin, the one the Monk accidentally averts, a few months before it’s supposed to happen, in a way that threatens to change all of human history, is not the farcical catastrophe described in The Book of the War. There was an original, untampered-with timeline that got thrown out of whack by too many different Time Lords trying to meddle with it.
You could, I suppose, posit that there are three different timelines: the Monk and the various Wartime factions both split off in different directions from the baseline Wages of Sin timeline where the human Rasputin died in the river. But that is no fun at all, is it? And furthermore, it does not account for the fact that the definitely human Rasputin of The Wanderer and The Wages of Sin is a good man unfairly maligned, whereas the Rasputin who becomes Father Dyavol is a rebellious lunatic. So let’s assume instead that the Book of the War story’s time meddling is building onto what happened (or, you know, would have happened) in How The Monk Got His Habit.
If we assume that the “the Monk drives the real Rasputin insane” incident happened a few months prior to December 1916, and it is on the day when he was driven mad that the real Rasputin is taken out of time by the Twelfth Doctor and replaced by the regenerated Monk, then this finally makes sense of the difference in characterization between pre- and post-1916 Rasputin. The sane, misunderstood Rasputin was the real human being, whereas the ranting madman Rasputin is the persona put on by the repentant Monk. Remember, per Harness’s outline, the Monk has a checklist of what Rasputin is supposed to do historically speaking, but I don’t see him having any real way of knowing how Rasputin is supposed to act. Most of his involvement with the man took place on the day that he drove him irreparably kookoo, after all.
So we end up with the following story:
The original Grigori Rasputin, who meets the First Doctor in 1903, is a mostly-sane and wholly-non-evil man. He has a traumatic experience with visions of future history, which the Doctor is forced to telepathically lock away, Donna-style. (The Wanderer) In the original timeline witnessed by the Third Doctor, Rasputin lives out his days largely as he had begun. He is assassinated in largely-mundane circumstances; Jo’s attempt to avert this by switching out the poisoned cakes for normal ones gives rise to a legend that Rasputin was unusually hard to kill, and causes the event to go down in history. (The Wages of Sin)  The Earth band Boney M write a song about Rasputin which inspires the Fifth Monk  to go back in time and make Rasputin listen to it. This drives him irreparably bananas, likely because of his having already had one barely-contained traumatic experience with future knowledge given to him by aliens, back in 1903.This screws with time to the extent that when he realizes he is out of his depth and calls for help, the Fifth Monk actually reaches the post-War Twelfth Doctor. After a lot of shenanigans, the Doctor leaves the Monk in 1916 with instructions to regenerate into a Sixth Monk physically identical to Rasputin, and then act out the part Rasputin was supposed to play in history to a T. (How The Monk Got His Habit)  The Sixth Monk’s Rasputin cosplay leaves a lot to be desired, since he mostly bases his performance on the damn Boney M song and on the bananas, post-listening-to-the-song Rasputin. Nevertheless, it’s enough to fool Faction Paradox into abducting him a few days before he was supposed to fake his death and go back to business as usual. The improbable series of coincidences which follows, with the triply-brainwashed duplicate, might represent Time trying to adjust so that the myth of Rasputin’s outlandish death, which started this entire series of events, still goes down in History somehow. Once in the Eleven-Day Empire, the Sixth Monk realizes pretty quickly that his being there at all, in the middle of the Time War, is a perfectly irregular breach of all the Protocols of Linearity. Hoping to avoid detection, he continues hamming it up as Mad Prophet Rasputin until he figures out a plan. To his surprise, he manages to fool Anastasia, and so he manipulates her into giving him a free ticket out of the Faction, namely the whole Thirteen-Day Republic thing. (The Book of the War) But wait. What happened to the real Rasputin who went crazy? I reckon the Twelfth Doctor took him to some place of caring or other. What’s more, I reckon he voiced his intention to do so while the Fifth Monk was still with him. (How The Monk Got His Habit) And so the final grisly piece of the puzzle comes into place. Desperate to escape back to his own place in Gallifreyan history, where it’s safe and black-and-white, when he sees the Valentine’s Day Battle approaching, the Sixth Monk commits his first truly evil act by hopping back into his timeship unseen, bringing the real Rasputin back to the Thirteen-Day Republic, and murdering him in a way which he hopes will look like the original timeline reasserting itself. To further avoid detection in case he should be intercepted on the way out, the Sixth Monk regenerates himself into a clean-shaven Seventh Monk right there and then, probably hiding in a closet. (The Book of the War) As far as any of the Wartime powers know, “Father Dyavol” is dead, and so the now-inconspicuous Seventh Monk is free to slink away back to his TARDIS. Knowing the Doctor is found on Earth in almost all of their incarnations, the Monk hovers close to Earth’s timeline, hoping to find the “right” Doctor again and rejoin Linearity by latching onto him. When they finally bump into each other in 1066 Northumbria, there’s still a 50-year difference between them, but the Monk thinks “eh, close enough” and reenters normal time for good, now with much-loosened moral standards. After all, act or no act, he spent quite a lot of time working with Faction Paradox — besides which he has seen that everything the Time Lords of his day stand for is torn down eventually by the War, so why bother with any of those Laws of Time he know will eventually be suspended? (The Time Meddler, The Daleks’ Master Plan)
…oh!
And if you want the real Rasputin’s story to have a happy ending, maybe the Faction, once they rifle through the possessions found on the corpse of Father Dyavol, find a fobwatch and open it… reviving the Fourth Doctor, who offers the befuddled coroner-Cousin a jelly baby, shrugs that this particular attempt to throw off the Black Guardian clearly didn’t work, and returns to his own era.
The jelly baby in question was then placed, with religious deference, on a velvet cushion inside the Catalogue.
