Domestic Dread (Visual Novel)

Dang, it's pretty cool to see epykslion make a game since I've only seen him play yandere (and horror) vns most of the time, but here we are! Domestic Dread is made for the #72HourMurderboyMayhem so currently it's in a demo state, but it does have a moment where you can bake cookies with the main guy, so that's always fun. It has an air of mystery to it that makes it pretty exciting. You can learn about it more here at @domesticdread.

Vinny is the default name for the MC so I will be referring to them as such.

The story starts out with Vinny waking up in a bed. Unable to remember who they are or what they are doing here, they end up freaking out when they realized that they're in a cabin above the mountains. A man they don't recognize comes to see them, worried about their condition, and introduces himself as Marcelo. He explains that Vinny's boyfriend, Brandon Cooragain was the one who almost got them killed, then explaining how much of a jerk he was. He gets Vinny to follow him to the living room where we see Brandon, beat up and tied up on the floor. He tries to get Vinny to kill Brandon, but they refuse, causing Marcelo to get angry. He calms down and proceeds to leave as he has something he has to do first, telling Vinny to clear their mind before deciding what to do next.

If Vinny decides to follow Marcelo, we get to see Marcelo taking out burnt cookies. Regardless of if Vinny tries to eat them or tries to throw them away, Marcelo apologizes for his outburst and bring them back to the living room.

If Vinny decides to check the room, they will find a journal detailing their past, which reveals that Marcelo was telling the truth about Vinny complaining about how much of a jerk Brandon was. However, they also realize a lot of their complaints were pretty menial and can't seem to believe that they would want to kill Brandon over something so insignificant.

If Vinny decides to check in the bedroom where they woke up, they'll find a scrapbook with Brandon and Vinny together hanging out. We find out that Brandon was about to marry Vinny before the incident happens, which makes Vinny question about what's actually going on.

When Marcelo comes back, it's time to make a decision.

If Vinny decides to kill Brandon, they will stab him repeatedly with the knife, causing him to wake up and scream as he dies. Marcelo comforts Vinny afterwards as they're still in shock after killing Brandon.

If Vinny refuses, then Marcelo will kill Brandon in front of them. Marcelo reprimands Vinny for always choosing others before themselves, with Marcelo having to fix everything afterwards. He tells Vinny that he won't stand for this and will make the decisions for them.

If Vinny remembers after reading the scrapbook, then refuses to let anything happen to Brandon or Marcelo. Vinny is able to prevent Marcelo from stabbing Brandon.

Starting out, it's really cool to be able to see a mystery like this unfold for us since even with the pieces of finding out that Vinny has been complaining about Brandon and finding the scrapbook of Vinny and Brandon, it's not completely clear on what Vinny felt for Brandon, but it is implied that it's not nearly as bad as Marcelo makes it out to be. Still though, there is a lot of contradictory evidence on what Vinny actually feels for Brandon, though it is noted that Marcelo's reasoning on why he might be helping VInny carry out what's happening isn't necessarily a lie, but something that has been built up for a while, as noted by the notebook filled with complaints that VInny had. Still though, like Vinny noted, a lot of the complaints were very small offenses that shouldn't amount to Brandon dying. So either Vinny was a very petty person or Marcelo is blowing things out of proportion. Or it might be a secret third thing! Who knows.

It's pretty obvious that Marcelo is likely using Vinny's amnesia as a way to get rid of Brandon, though it's likely just to pull through from before Vinny lost their memory, since it does mention that the two end up going in the mountains somewhere. Its kind of cute (?) that Marcelo ends up trying to make cookies for Vinny before they woke up though it does seem pretty nonchalant considering that Vinny kind of just lost their memories and could possibly have sustained brain damage or just have never woken up but I guess it could be just something that Marcelo is just trying to take care of. That being said there's still a high probability that Marcelo somehow convinced Vinny to get rid of Brandon in some capacity and is now using the amnesia to go through with it, either with Vinny killing him themselves or Marcelo killing him Either way, the three of them are stuck on a cabin on top of the woods so they're basically in self confinement.

Overall though, while a short demo, a pretty interesting premise. I'm curious to see where this will all lead up to and what Vinny as a person was, and what their relationship between Marcelo and Brandon were.

The General Election Fallout Post

Hello again; I, uh, forgot to visit Tumble Dot Com for a bit.

Anyway, I'm back. For now, at least.

And yes, Election Day has been and gone. So let's start with some anti-Tory schadenfreude: ROFL, LMAO, LOL, get fucked, idiots. Good riddance, rust in pieces, you will not be missed.

Unfortunately, the overall political picture is - well, let's be honest, for a massive anti-Tory defeat it's ended up more bleak than I would have considered likely.

Unfortunately, the Tories didn't quite collapse in the way I hoped - they had a very bad night, but they're still the official Opposition, so the party will survive as a corporate entity. And that means we'll probably get it back at some point, which I'm not exactly thrilled about.

Meanwhile Labour managed to produce the most flimsy landslide anyone's ever seen. I say flimsy because actually, they took fewer votes than they did in 2019 - remember how our good friends the wise and all-knowing centrists assured us that that was a true sin unto the ages, and we should all hang our heads in shame and never be seen in public again? Yeeeeaaaaah. Your boy Keith did worse, guys. Meanwhile, Labour's fraction of the actual vote-that-was-cast was ... actually not great, either, at 34%. While he won, it's clear he's not loved.

Yes, that's right, their performance is barely a percentage-point better than 2019. And, uh, about 10 percentage-points down on what the Very Serious And All-Knowing Opinion Pollsters claimed it would be. So yes, there's been another fuckie-wuckie from the pollsters; unfortunately, as they technically got the headline result right (if none of the details), I suppose they'll get away with it :(

The only reason last night's landslide happened was because the Tory 2019 voter-coalition disintegrated (though, not as far as the pollsters claimed it would - honestly, we're overdue a period of silence from those guys).

In fairness yes, Labour get to form a government and yes they have a huge majority. But, what they pulled off yesterday will only work once - there will be no second Tory collapse - and their economic plans in particular have some ticking timebombs under them. A hint: what if the GDP Growth Fairy doesn't visit these sceptred isles after all ... ? How will Starmer's leadership ratings cope once their fiscal rules force them to deliver another austerity budget? What will they cut? What public services or government departments will simply stop?

TBH I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if, even one year in the future, Starmer's ratings and his party's have imploded. Yes, I'm fallible and I could be wrong, maybe they'll land another massive landslide in 2029 - but I'm worried about the future.

This brings us to Reform, Nigel Farage's latest vanity vehicle/puppet party-shaped object.

Unfortunately, a lot of the ex-Tory vote went to Reform UK, and if there was any question that Refuck are actual full-fat fascists, then I think the recent mini-scandal put paid to that. (For those who don't know, some Refuck activists were recently caught on camera by Channel 4 News, literally calling for asylum seekers to be machine-gunned, demanding a police pogrom against LGBTQ people, and so on. In as many words. No dog whistles, no coded remarks or anything like that. It was literally - and horrifyingly - what it sounded like. A call for deliberate, directed State violence against minority groups. Centrists, please, if you can't see that for what it is, then please consider why that might be!)

So, given that Refuck have won 5 seats, we now have actual, unambiguous fascists in Parliament. And that was something that had never quite happened before - our politics could often be an awful cesspit but even during the worst parts of the post-2016 crisis we hadn't quite tipped off that ledge.

Not now. Yay us, I guess?

You can tell I'm not enjoying this post anywhere near as much as I wanted to, can't you?

Anyway, fuck the Tories, fuck their ex-MPs, fuck their remaining ones and as for the people who still voted for them in spite of everything, honestly, what's wrong with you? (Seriously - why? What do you see in them? They've done nothing for you. They spent lockdown pissed on expensive wine and laughing at you. Why are you still supporting them?)

The other news is that the Lib Dems are back. They've done a surprisingly-efficient job of turning votes into seats - in fact it looks like they barely wasted any votes anywhere, and so have managed to get from 12 seats to 71 - yes, 71! - while taking only about 12% of the vote. Well, credit where it's due, I suppose. And much as I will never forgive the Coalition for setting us onto the path of ruin that we're on, nonetheless during the campaign Ed Davey was the only person who actually seemed to be enjoying himself. It seems to have worked out - the LDs have had their best election result since the 1920s.

If you want to look for some (possible) rays of light in this mess ... well, the Green Party did relatively well. Their vote went up, and they now have four MPs, vserus 1 in the previous Parliament. (Full disclosure: I voted Green. I don't think they're perfect, I'm not a stan, but Sir Keith's "changed" Labour Party has obvious contempt and loathing for people like me so ... fine? We'll go our separate ways, then.) Much to my surprise, they came second in my constituency, which I genuinely hadn't expected. Apparently my vote was less wasted than usual, it would seem. And the Greens' growth happened in spite of them being resolutely ignored by the entire print and broadcast media, so apparently they don't need the media to keep making progress. It is possible that their growth could continue, and maybe another election-cycle might give us back a semi-worthwhile left-of-center opposition party ... but here I am committing the Sin of Optimism, aren't I?

Also, well, lots and lots of Tories are miserable today. Grant Shapps has had a case of the slaps, Rees-Mogg has been time-warped back to the 18th Century (honestly he'll probably be happier there, it's for the best for everyone) and Liz Truss got yeeted feet-first into the Sun. (Sorry, Sol.)

Also a lot of bootlicking newspaper opinion columnists are having a proper meltdown today, and that is genuinely funny. They certainly deserve no sympathy.

So yeah, the overall picture is a) good riddance to Sunak, b) fuck the Tories and c) oh dear goodness, it's somehow all still a mess.

There is something about post-Elpis pre-Jack's ascendency jackothy that is making me soo insane‼️

Timothy is forced to take care of a guy who he had hated from the very beginning, but he has to stick by his side because... why, exactly? Because he signed a contract? Because it seems like the whole universe is after both of them? Maybe he is feeling guilty, like, this should have happened to him. His job was to take the bullets (eridian artifacts?) meant for Jack or whatever. But Jack never really seemed like he needed his protection, that’s the thing. The whole time, he was so stupidly sure of himself. He was also, frustratingly enough, kinda glorious. And maybe Tim resented how cocky he was, and he wished for something to knock him down a peg, right. But, holy shit, not like that.

The mark scares him. He hates aliens, he hates that he doesn’t understand what’s going on, he really hates the way doctors treat Jack. Everybody and their mom want to hook Jack up to some equipment and run tests. Tim doesn’t want to leave him in their hands. They all remind him of Autohn. 

And Jack. Jack hates everything and himself. He keeps thinking about what was promised to him: Hyperion, the Warrior, Pandora, and he knows that, eventually... But for now, his face hurts, and he doesn't feel very heroic. He wants to be victorious NOW he doesn't wanna be in pain! 

And he is non-stop taunted by his unscared face worn by a total stranger. He doesn't even know his name. Recently, his life has been centered around surviving many attempts at his life, and he got betrayed by a bunch of people, so excuse him if he isn’t particularly trusting. He just doesn't get why 21-C sticks around. He must have some kind of underlying motif, but Jack cannot figure it out, which annoys him. Maybe he wants to kill him, but then, what's the hold-up? He should really get on with it.

At least Tim (it does not take much prying to get him to reveal his real name) is a perfect scapegoat to blame all of this on. Lilith is who Jack is truly angry with (understatement of the century), but she is far away, and his doppelganger is right there. If he wants to play nurse, Jack is not going to make it easy on him. 

I just think it is very funny to have Tim try to help Jack all the while that dick does everything in his power to make Lawrence want to strangle him. Timothy is looking over his face, and Jack is like, “So did your mom not love you? You totally act like a guy who wasn’t loved by his mom. Just a casual observation! Don't get your panties in a bunch, jeez.. So, how's the face? Don’t tell me, don't tell me, let me guess. Still screwed up because you couldn’t do your damn job??”

He has Tim pacing around their living room, muttering to himself “I am not the sort of guy to hit an injured man I am not the sort of guy to hit an injured man I am not—”

It is about Jack being humiliated and scared and angry and taking it all out on Lawrence and Tim telling him "it's rotten work. especially to me especially if it's you. I am fucking doing it but christ alive."

On the doc Mike and Pac found in the prison said that if Walter Bob completed that specific task he would be free from the jail/no longer a prisoner, right? (MY memory isn't the best so maybe this is a bit wrong but that is what we have for today folks augstwfwywfrqcw)

So

What if one day he finishes the task and Cucorucho with a smile brings him to another federation building and asks him to get into a room

So

Days later Fit is asked to clean a room, no big deal, another day of honest work where he starts lurking around looking for anything that could be useful for him and his mission

And then, in another place that he isn't suppose to be, but that he got into anyway is a... something. In the corner. It's small, it's scared, maybe even trembling a little bit and tired, very tired.

It's an egg.

When he enters, it turns around to face him and Fit freezes for a second because now he can clearly read the name on top of the kid.

Well, he isn't coming out of that building alone.

Also! For fluff purposes! Imagine he bringing him to show Pac and Mike, like, Walter Bob doesn't have the memories of Before but he can't help but feel at ease around those "strangers" and their vibrant, lively energy, especially because they seem to like be around him as well, always full of hugs and itens and new places to show around.

Ramon being a good older brother! Showing him how to explode things and being perfect to bring his more quiet and chaotic side.

The fact that before he couldn’t remember ever having a bed just the cold metal of the cell and the guards shouting and pain and experiments and cold cold cold

But now it's different! Now he has a family, people from everywhere smiling and talking to him and helping and saying strange, kind things like that their house is his as well and that if he ever ever need he could call

And then Forever reforms the NINHO to have another room and Bad calls him to chat while making his buildings and Baghera gives him a bunch of invisible potions so they can hang around listening to gossips and Philza is always chill in letting him visit and Foolish laugh and goof around like nothing could ever go wrong everytime he gets too anxious and Mike and Pac are there and...

And Richas gives him beautiful paintings to put in his room and Dapper show him all his cool animal collection and Leo take him to a train ride and Tallulah helps him to decorate his room and...

And and and

(And the hope is there, it hurts too much to bare sometimes, like it's a knife that already cut him before.

But little by little, with time, the wounds begins to heal)

Maybe I missed something but I still don’t understand the “MORRIGAN BETRAYS YOU!!!” Argument. Like yeah she lied about why she really joined you and withheld information but as soon as she springs it on you she tells you everything you question, aside from her full plans. Yeah the ritual is done for her own gain but she doesn’t spring you with dipping after the final battle out of nowhere, again, she lays it all out when she offers her help. You refuse? She dips and doesn’t fight.

Meanwhile Anders is a domestic fucking terrorist abomination that lies to your face to get you to help and tries to gaslight you if you want to ask just why he needs into the Chantry. And Solas lied the whole time about who he was, took all the fancy gear you saddled him with, took the anchor, and disappears in Trespasser and next we’re getting a whole game about stopping him from ruining the world.

If I’m missing something please let me know but one of these mages doesn’t belong here

Okay so existential dread is a significant element of my existence but every so often I experience a moment of existential joy.

You ever just look at your dog and go wow. That there is a dog. That dog is a living, breathing creature outside of me. He is a living creature and sometimes when we’re snuggled up I can feel his heartbeat and if I listen I can hear him breathing and he radiates warmth. And it just fills you with absolute joy like this thing has free will and is choosing to fall asleep laying on my back with his head on my butt and he only understands like ten of the thousands of words I say to him and it must feel so different to live in his hairy body with a better sense of smell than sense of sight and his nervous system has got to be wildly different but I’m pretty much certain he loves me and one of the truest things about me is that I love him. He is lying with his head on my butt because when he made it clear that this was how he was going to fall asleep I went of course this is what we’re doing now. Like this living thing that experiences the world in a way I could never understand communicated to me that he desired to lay his head upon my buttocks and I said yes. How many thousands of generations of members of our species had to work to adapt to each other in such a way that I can lay here in cozy comfort knowing that while my neck and shoulders are displeased with this arrangement my nervous system, my endocrine system, my cardiovascular system are benefiting from the strange bond our ancestors managed to build? How strange and beautiful that some ancient wolf going look they’ve got snacks and some prehistoric human going I dunno that forest creature sure has scary teeth but I think it looks like a potential pal lead to you and me sitting like this, my arm slowly falling asleep, you starting to snore because somewhere along the way in your genetic line we fucked up your breathing. My family brought you into this house for the sole purpose of having a creature for me to love and care for. Your job is to be loved. I don’t think I would have made it these past three years without you. Some dude was like yeah you can have some liver and all of a sudden your little head is on my butt and you’re a dog living, breathing, heart beating and we love each other. This is real. We’re alive together.

There is joy in this existence and how strange and beautiful is that?

Sun and Moon angst.

this will be ranting about my au but like

in my Domestic au

how would Sun and Moon feel if at some point, they see the Pizza plex reopen? and everything is the same? and in the adversement they see themselves?

a brand new themselves, with perhaps an improved design and functions, doing their job, as if it were still them?

how would they feel at the realization that their existence, at the eyes of everybody (except reader), is replaceable? i would like to explore in the future the existential dread that bring the knowlede of being a self aware machine in a world where machines are made with a purpose and are not supposed to question it, where once they did, they are deemed defective and dismantled to be replaced because they were not needed to be aware

i want to explore how would they feel at the realization that they spent the whole of their lives knowing who they were and their purpose only because someone literally wrote that into their brains, and once they took the decision of deviating from it, they were effortlessly put aside and forgotten because they were not needed anymore

and now that they took that decision they can never go back to what they once were because now they know, they saw the reality of their existence and they cannot ignore it.

But they aren't human, so they can't go forward either because most humans will only ever see them as a sci-fi-fuckery threat at the worst and a deviant at the best.

all of this to say: hurt comfort parallels of Y/N having a life chrisis (or even a panic attack) over their life choices while sun and moon comfort them, only later for their situation to be swapped with Sun and Moon having a situation like freddy does in sb when he sees all the endos but so much worse, and y/n comforts them

1-4 AM when it's no longer freezing out and not yet sweltering is objectively almost the perfect time to have a power outage but unfortunately my sleep cycle is so gefuckt rn that i was absolutely still awake at 1 and, while in the absence of internet i did in fact go to sleep, the light coming back on at 4 did in fact wake me up again (also sounds of various appliances rebooting, &c, but the light was really the main thing)
