Something is moving through the waters, is it a log? the seaweed ? Shooting out of the waters is the Dolichorhynchops, with fast and precise attacks this beast is worse than poison ivy

Paleovember 2023, Dolichorhynchops!
This ten-foot long sea reptile is a member of a group of plesiosaurs called Polycotylids, animals that resembled the large, famous pliosaurs, but having more in common with elasmosaurs. It also inhabited the Western Interior Seaway, at the same time as creatures like Hesperornis, Xiphactinus, Elasmosaurs, Tylosaurus, and so forth. It was definitely lower on the hierarchy of sea monsters, given how relatively small it was, but it clearly made up for that by being fast and agile.

No way that some random Crayola dinosaur toy included Dolichorhynchops on its lineup? I am seriously impressed in the renaissance of dinosaurs in media.

So I rediscovered something from my childhood while scrolling through Pinterest. It was a dolichorhynchops plush from the imax movie Sea Monsters: a prehistoric adventure. Feeling nostalgic I checked to see where I could buy it only to find a website with sh reviews which made it seem like a scam. So until July comes around, I’m going to attempt to recreate this plush from my childhood. If anyone who sees this has some tips or pointers please let me know because I’m going in blind.

Courageous, our tiger faces.
[ID: A digital painting of two dolichorhynchops siblings. The background is dark, as it is presumably night. The moon’s light beams through the ocean’s surface, casting rays of light on the two. The female, on the top, is a dark gray with a lighter underbelly and a light spot behind her eye. Her back left fin is scarred, a shark’s tooth embedded into it. She is looking at her brother, who is swimming below her. The male has a considerably lighter coloration, with a nearly white underbelly. They both have green eyes. Although their faces seem neutral, their open mouths and position make it seem as if they are playing whilst swimming. End ID]

I'll be having a good day and then suddenly I'm back in 9th grade doing research for a creative writing assignment where i made up a story about a girl accidentally going to a different dimension where dinosaurs never went extinct and i got really hooked into figuring out exactly where every type of dinosaur possibly lived and all the possibilities of where they would have ended up today due to pangea splitting and how society could have possibly grown or made any technological advancements and i never got to the actual writing part and and we only had 20 minutes to make it and i failed🙃

What is your favorite NON DINOSAUR ancient creature?
Dolichorhynchops! It was a plesiosaur from North America in the late Cretaceous. They were about 3 meters long and hunted similar to dolphins!
I love this ask 💜 prehistoric animals are a special interest of mine

thoughts on dolichorhynchops? [passes you the microphone]
It's a cutie!!! I'm not a big expert on marine reptiles but I like that one enough to have put it on my list of prehistoric life forms for a board game my spouse and I are making XD

The surface of the water is only a place to rest for most marine animals. Their needs are found deeper in the oceans, where most of us cam barely follow.
After taking a breath of air, Hilda and a Dolichorhynchops dive down into the depths below, but the latter will probably stay longer, as its food is found there (and because Hilda can't hold her breath for that long)
